What are some East Coast/West Coast stereotypes?

West is chill. Oregon is fit and outdoorsy. Washington is super hipster. Northern Cali is more chill/less superficial. Southern Cali is faster paced.

East coast is all about time in the bigger cities. Machismo is a bigger deal. Jersey has the bros. Massachusetts and around have the grungy fishermen/blue collar workers.

East Coast: Arrogant and rude
West Coast: Smug and liberal

NorCal/SoCal/Vegas-->Philly/Maryland. TRAUMATIZED after coming out here. I know others who cried everyday cuz even minor social interactions were so RUDE compared to us suburban softies from cushy upper-middle class SoCal suburbia. SoCal "Can I get a cup of water please?" = Philly "Gimme cup of water!" They think you're an unconfident pussy asking to get taken advantage of, asking to be treated like a bitch, you have to fight for everything and display toughness, the "machismo" another poster referred to.

East Coast: more suspicious of others' intentions, confidence/arrogance (i.e. intentionally not walking out of the way on sidewalks), likely influence of urban black culture in East Coast cities. Cares about status and prestige are about social standing (what you do for work, what Ivy League university do you go to, etc.). Ppl are more about their HUSTLE, cuz if you don't hustle out here, you're gonna freeze to death in the winter. Limited space/resources with higher population/density = more aggressive/competition/fighting for everything. ALSO, East is much bigger on IN-GROUP VS OUT-GROUP. Are you part of their social class, their business school, their club/activity, their race, etc. On the West Coast ppl are more open to others of different backgrounds (racial, geographic, whatever) but on the East Coast ppl are more into huddling into their own groups (think about it, ppl historically had to go home to their tight knit communities/families to survive the winters). Race is a bigger deal out East. "I'm an Italian girl so blah blah blah" "I got that from my Irish roots blah blah blah"--I wonder what they think about Asians and blacks. Racism is definitely stronger out here but just not said. Out West we'd joke about it but deep down more accept each other.

West Coast: more open to strangers/ppl, more "naive". Cares about status/prestige are more about looks/fun/cool. Less traditional views of ppl cuz richest guy in the room could be a funky tech nerd.

There is literally nothing good about the East. Ppl out here are fighting for scraps due to limited space/resources/hot women/etc., it's so much more competitive for a tiny loft or a girl that wouldn't even turn heads in LA, etc. etc.

Blacks are a factor, but the East Coast has never recovered from the immigrant waves of the 1900s. The worst of old poor Europe migrated in and has left these terrible behaviors and attitudes. The Western US doesn't have the same old world charm and for a long time was filled with superior pre-1900s immigrants.

You can tell the difference, there is no universal accent and there are many regional words/terms/phrases that are used more than others.

Go to Boston, Norfolk, New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles... then tell us more about the universal accent. Everybody doesnt sound like the people on TV.
