Going to Stockholm with over the summer with my family for a week. Recommendations/general tips? Money isn't a huge problem. Also, general Stockholm thread.

Elaborate a bit. By family, do you mean wife and kids? Or parents and brothers/sisters? What do you like to see and do?

Stockholm is nice but can be seen in 2-3 days. If you're there longer there are other options outside the city.
>>

Going with parents, siblings. I'm 19 but my siblings are a bit younger. We're not really looking to do anything in particular. What options outside of the city?

I'm assuming that you're going with younger kids.

My recommendations are
Gröna Lund - https://www.gronalund.com/en/
Slightly pricey theme-park that's got a lot of carousels in miniature and a lot of games where you always win a small teddy or something similar. Designed to keep the kids from crying I guess.

Junibacken - https://www.junibacken.se/en/
A big playhouse for kids complete with outside activities, a "storytrain" which flies you through a guided tour of a bunch of fairytales and a bookshop.

Skansen - http://www.skansen.se/en
All those typical Swedish things you expected to see and didn't? Yeah they've got them all here. Old timey Swedish candy, lots of cute and friendly animals, old Swedish buildings and even people dressed up in traditional clothes. If your kids are small and you don't fancy carrying them around you can buy tickets to be driven around in a little train on the grounds.

StikkiNikki in OldTown - http://stikkinikki.com/contact/shops/
Really great ice cream that isn't extremely overpriced like everything else in oldtown. Kids are guaranteed to love it.

Science Fiction Bookstore - https://www.sfbok.se/
Massive nerdshop in several floors which has everything kids like. You're going to come away with at least half a bag of Harry Potter themed merch.

Misc
The changing of the guard in old town. If you have sons they'll probably like the canons and the swords.
Mall of Scandinavia. It's probably the biggest and most modern mall in the nordic countries and has an IMAX-cinema.

If you got any questions I'll try to answer as best as I can!

Barcelona. No, I don't want a warm beer, and no, I don't want a hooker to blow me. Fuck off.
It's my first trip and I tried going out at night by myself. I'm now fully convinced I'm socially retarded. I thought an easy warm up before the club would be to go up to a group of (seemingly strangers) playing volleyball and ask if I could join. One guy sitting on the side told me to ask the others and when I did they just ignored me. Am I a creep? I thought this would be a normal thing to do? They all seemed like a mismatched group of people. Then I got so flustered I just walked away since they clearly ignored me. I was afraid the same thing would happen at a club so I just skipped it and went back to sleep.
In a few days I start staying in hostels. Will this make it better? Please help with your words I feel like shit and it's only the second day of 21 days.

pic is in Barca but unrelated

if you're in a hostel it's easier to find someone else solo and maybe do stuff with them, might already be a group that invites you

you don't sound like someone who would enjoy barcelona

Keep trying; don't give up hope and if you don't start making friends, go explore magical Catalunya. You don't need other people to enjoy nature and history.

as i wrote in my first line, i have no friends

going somewhere and instantly making friends is highly unlikely, especially when i can't hold a conversation for more than 2 seconds
>>
>>1262957
>How do you eat at restaurants or do things alone?
I say table for one and give my last name, or if it's a foreign country I just hold up a single finger and smile.

>can't visit any tapas or places where you're expected to share food (dim sum, izakaya, etc.), so either don't get to taste as much of the food, or spend a lot of money and gain weight

I have joked about breaking vacation weight gain records with the family, in Japan all of the places I ate usually had at least one table or place at the bar with a single dude there, so aside from being a foreigner I didn't really stand out. Got great ramen and izakya, good times

Dim sum is probably my least favorite kind of Chinese so I didn't miss that.
>have to eat alone while everyone else is with their friends
Lucky me.

I always dress up nice and eat alone at fancy resturants with a bottle of wine. It make me feel like the Godfather or something, but probably more like ReviewBrah desu. Sometimes I have a casual chat with the waiter, sometimes the chef will either bring me some sort of special treat, but not always, so don't count on it.

>if you want pictures of yourself, need to ask strangers (i dont have social media, so i never ask)
I take pictures of my dish if it'ssomething new, I've never taken a pic of myself eating though...

>anyone else know these feels?
I do not, I'm not the lonely sort.

>tfw coworker recommends a tapas restaurant to visit at my next travel destination
Not really a fan of tapas.

If you're that concerned check /soc/ reddit, or meetups, I'm sure you could pick up a few tagalongs.

Has your nationality or race ever actually worked against you while traveling? I've been thinking about it recently and I have never experienced any harm due to being a white American yet people keep telling me that certain countries "hate Americans."

Pic is Russia, a country a lot of people have told me not to go to because they dislike Americans.

Ever noticed how anglo americans and white russians can look pretty damn similar though? Also, I've never heard Russians dislike americans..hrm. Governments don't like each other of course, but most people I meet abroad have followed american media, fashion, film and the dream their whole lives and find you interesting for a few moments at least, if you act cool and polite.

Have you tested your theory elsewhere? I am a white american female, tall, blonde, light eyes. I find my race a disadvantage in the Bahamas if you're trying to avoid tourist crime, you simply can't blend in and you're a target if you aren't smart and think you can do anything you damn well please, because you can't. But, I know this. Mexico? Can't blend in, either. So that adds some expense anywhere you don't want to be targeted, that's all. There are places I would never go alone, like Turkey or would never consider going at all, like Egypt, some places in Africa.
>>
>>1262617
Why are some many people pussies about traveling?
Oh, Russians hate Americas (yes, but less than Italians or French), I won't go!
Oh, NK is loosing it again, I won't go to SK then!
Is it safe to go UK now, I've heard about some terrorists on the news?
ISIS in Philippines, wouldn't go!
Mideast scary countries list: Turkey, Egypt, Jordan.

And it seems like 99% of such posters are from US. Of all countries...

I've seen an American couple denied from a run of the mill club in Berlin, they seemed normal and they were dressed nicely. That's the only time I've ever seen something like that happen though. I think as long as you're not obnoxious you're fine to go wherever.

Another option is to lie and say you're Canadian. I'm a native Canadian girl and people abroad treat me nicely because of the dumb "haha nice guy" stereotype.

Planning on taking a trip to the U.K. at the end of August.

Looking for any general tips of things to do, places to go, etc.

Plan to spend 1 day in Manchester, a few days in London, and then would like to go to the countryside for a few days. Cornwall area seems like a good fit.

Oi folks,

I'll be studying in budapest in summer. Any tips or recommendations?

Found myself some rooms for accommodation, mostly in VIII th district, around 300 euros per month, will I get raped by the gypsys?

Feel free to share places to see, things to do, stuff to drink and eat, etc.

And more importantly, take care y'all

Hi! I'm not from Budapest but I've been there a couple of times since I work as a part time tour leader.
The neighborhood you mentioned is a little sketchy but you should be fine, the police there does its job well (trust me, don't even think of doing stupid shit around them!).
Food and drink prices range from ridiculously low to slightly expensive (only in the touristy as fuck parts).
If you're a smoker, you're in deep shit because smoking areas are hard to identify and cigarettes are expensive and being sold only in special shops that look like bodegas.. Getting shit faced anywhere (including the street) is completely fine.
I can't point you to a specific location to look at because the whole of Budapest is a sight to behold. It has a ton of small squares where most of the time something is going on. Go google ruin bars if you're into some hipster shit (the night life at its best is in the "Jewish district").
And one last tip, get hungarian forints instead of euros because people tend to get scammed while paying with euros.
>>
I was an erasmus student in Szeged for one year. I have been in budapest for many times. Cool city nice people. Instant and Szimpla Kert is nice. Some places have really nice street food. Try to learn subway and bus destinations. Taxi drives can get very tricky espically when you are hurrying to airport or train station.>>1260405
By the way what are you going to study. I am also planning something like that

did you do kew gardens yet?

Hay folks! I'm back!

I had a post going not too long ago about my decision to move to Mexico. I want to teach english for a few years to get fluent in Spanish and enjoy the culture and especially the history.

So i have two Skype interviews going on next week, one with Berlitz in the city of San Luis Portosi, and another for a language center in Guadalajara.

I just have a few questions in regards to money and the cost of living. I just want to know if i will be able to live comfortably on the amount they are paying me.

Berlitz offers 65 pesos for 45 minute lessons. I would making around 5,500-7,500 pesos a month working for them in San Luis Portosi city. Can i live comfortable on this amount in that city, for i have never been???

The Guadalajara position offers more hours and I'm ASSUMING more pay per hour. I just hope the cost of living in San Luis Portosi is very low in comparison to other major cities.

I have a bachelors and a 160 hour TEFL course, but no teaching experience yet besides the TEFL course. Should i ask for more pay? Or wait for a job that pays more, like the one in Guadalajara that i can potentially get?

What do you think my Mexican homies and my fellow travelers, hook me up with some advice!!!

This is not a drill folks!!! Picture is defiantly related.

5,500 pesos a month should be enough to get by in San Luis Potosi.

A couple years back work sent me down to Veracruz to haggle out a shipping contract and toward the end I asked one of the guys what sort of pay he got. Pretty sure I remember him saying 7,000 a month. I know he lived with family, but Veracruz is definitely more expensive.
>>
texan amerifag here, most of my family lives in San Luis Potosi. its alright, there are a lot of cool little towns/villages nearby, dunno what it's like safety wise these days but damn if those towns weren't cool as hell. I can get the names of some of them for you from my cousins. also yeah that'll be enough for san luis.

good going amigo, i would like to do this soon, connect with my roots. how much was the TEFL course?
>>
>>1268062
7,500 will get you a small apartment almost anywhere in the country. I suggest you go to Guadalajara, since it's a metropolis and lot of things to do, SLP is basically a poor hick mid sized town, not much to do, but then again, aside from Gdl, Mexico City and Monterrey, other cities are kinda lame, except for some tourists spots like mazatlan, puerto vallarta, etc.
My only advice is, don't be a sperg in your interview and everything should be fine; Mexicans are kinda racist and will hire any white american to teach english over a native mexican most of the time.

It could be if you're really into that. Otherwise probably not, it's a pleasant city but there's nothing transcendent about it.

I finally managed to get a visa for a job abroad! Anyways, I'm Mexican and I'd like to take ingredients to cook in the UK. They involve sauces and powders, and so on. I'm planning on taking everything that doesn't involve liquids in my hand luggage.

Am I likely to get in trouble? I mean I'm pretty much travelling with about 3kg worth of white powders (creatine, and tortilla flour). I'm kind of scared they'd think of it as being drugs, as my nationality lends itself to stereotypes.

Should I be concerned?

My hostels stays are usually chill with an odd occurrence here and there. I once met a guy staying in my dorm in Playa del Carmen, Mexico who had been living in the hostel for a month while he looked for a job. He showed me his three passports, one from israel, one from mexico and one from the united states. It turns out that one day he left and never came back to collect his belongings on his check out date (the cleaning lady came asking for him). Two days later the mexican police came looking asking questions about an israeli serial killer that escaped prison and flew to mexico a month ago. It makes me sick that I was alone with that guy in a 8 bed room for a couple of nights, he seemed normal what the fuck
