Who here has been to Budva Montenegro? Do you recommend it? Where did you stay?

I'm gonna be in Sarajevo and I want to possibly go to Budva. I got a flight out of Split. So I'm thinking maybe go to Budva and possibly Kotor. Then drive to Split and maybe see Dubrovnik again (been there before)

Seems like Budva is more likely than Split and Split is more romantic.

Also thoughts on Hvar?

Also can I rent a car in Sarajevo and leave it in Split?

I didn't spend much time there, but I can tell you that the coastline is the only part of Montenegro that you want to go to (unless you have business in Serbia, then it's much easier to cross through the mountains of Montenegro than taking the "scenic" route through the dilapidated roads of Bosnia

Hi /trv/,
for this summer I was looking for a vacation outside the city, to see some vistas and enjoy the wilderness. My only problem is that I don't own a car, so I can only move by plane and car. My idea was to go to Finland or Sweden, but I'm not looking forward visiting the main cities. Also, I'm open to suggestions for other places with cold climate (for example, how do I reach Lapland?).

Do you have some ideas for a vacation in contact with nature? I don't have budget problems and I would travel with my girflriend. Thank you in advance for the help.

Fly to one of the numerous airports in Lapland; Norwegian, SAS and Finnair all fly up there, Norwegian is cheapest, but you usually have to transit via Oslo, Helsinki, Stockholm. It's pretty cheap, though, it might only add 50 EUR on a round ticket.

If you don't have budget problems like you said, and are fairly used to hiking/wildlife then just go to Sweden and stay at one of the STF huts/cabins, or walk between them.

The prices are decent, the comfort level is perfect, and the nature is astounding.

My recommendations are:
jämtlandstriangeln if you want to move between huts and don't mind other people.
Grövelsjön if you want to take day-trips and return to more comfortable "almost hotel"-level living
Abisko if you don't mind the cold, want to experience midnight sun and want to be more alone in the wild (though the hotel might be crowded with the Asian and Indian aurora-tourists, though it should be fine in summer since you can't see it anyway due to the sun never setting).

All of these are reachable by train, plane and bus. Call STF and they'll help you.
Also if you're below 26 you can get cheap flights with SAS, search for youth tickets.

Notable mentions are also: kvikkjok, saltoluokta and Kebnekaise. Actually Kebnekaise deserves its own mention, I just haven't been there yet!

Thank you very much. Which places are worth to visit in Lapland?

>>1267156
Thank you, also. STF seems a very reasonable option. I'll look further into it.

I live in Vancouver, have a year of programming under my belt with around a year as a junior developer.

I really just want to take a break before I finish school to teach over seas.

Anyone have any experience with a working visa in Japan?

Hi Chang

Anon from Argentina here, need some advice. So, my gf left and after being a wreck for a couple of months I'm doing pretty good and making some good money as a lawyer, so I was thinking about making a backpacker solo trip to South East Asia, Nepal and India. Not really interested in ladyboys and beaches, I want to see ruins, meet the locals and eat some weird shit.
I was thinking my itinerary could be something like: Camboya>Thailand>Myanmar>Nepal>India, and get a plane back to Argentina from New Dheli.

Have some experience backpacking last year from Ecuador and back home.

I have a little over a month to do this, during part of december and january, do you think my itinerary is doabe? should I just focus on SE Asia and leave Nepal and India for another time? any advice in general is welcome, I've never been to Asia.

To be honest I have not been to the region but I am currently planning a 2 months trip for August and September and I am planning to do Thailand only, maybe Cambodia for Angkor Wat.
But it seems like 5 countries in one month will allow you to only see very selective parts of each country or you will spend a lot of time on the road imo. There is always a trade off between quantity and quality I suppose.
But I will be lurking to see other opinions as I am curious too,

I'm not sure if I'll be able to do this kind of trip again so I want to see as much as possible and move constantly from one point of interest to the next.
>>
>>1266798
If a month is all you have skip Cambodia unless Angkor Wat is an essential. Maybe skip Thailand too... Myanmar is WAY better for what you're looking for.

You can do the traditional Myanmar loop in 10 (rushed) days. Yangon > Bagan > Inle Lake. Alternatively you could cross overland from Bangkok to Dawei > Mawlyamine > Hpa An, then do the traditional loop.

India is a big place, but Delhi, Agra and Varanasi or Rajasthan is doable in 10 days.

Tips on planning a vacation for a large group?

My family wants to visit Italy for a couple of weeks next year and since I'm the only one who has experience with this kind of thing they asked me to look into the particulars of it all, but I've only traveled by myself or with a friend. I'm guessing the only difference between booking 2 people and booking >6 people is that I should be looking for bigger apartments (probably using Airbnb), I should consider renting a van, and I should book a few of the big name tickets far ahead of time. Anything I'm missing? Any group discounts I might look into getting?

>Are you surprised, as if it were a novelty, that after such long travel and so many changes of scene you have not been able to shake off the gloom and heaviness of your mind? You need a change of soul rather than a change of climate. Though you may cross vast spaces of sea, and though, as our Vergil remarks,

>Lands and cities are left astern,

>your faults will follow you whithersoever you travel. Socrates made the same remark to one who complained; he said: "Why do you wonder that globe-trotting does not help you, seeing that you always take yourself with you? The reason which set you wandering is ever at your heels." What pleasure is there in seeing new lands? Or in surveying cities and spots of interest? All your bustle is useless. Do you ask why such flight does not help you? It is because you flee along with yourself. You must lay aside the burdens of the mind; until you do this, no place will satisfy you.
- Seneca, Epistulae Morales

do you agree?

I've always found that traveling made me forget my worries and i always feel better about myself when i'm on the road. once i get home it all comes back though and i find myself longing for the next trip, so maybe he is right....

Travelling's usually not a solution to your problems, especially if you're going to return home to them, but it's still worthwhile. He's making a vague, sweeping statement which cannot possibly apply to everyone.

also Seneca was exiled, maybe that contributed to a more pessimistic attitude towards 'seeing new lands'

>also Seneca was exiled, maybe that contributed to a more pessimistic attitude towards 'seeing new lands'

Yeah the guy's just butthurt.

You shouldn't travel to solve problems, but to use the experiences and people as a leverage to find who you are, why you are who you are, and perhaps to what and how you can change who you are.
Or you just travel and have a nice time, enjoying it for what it is: experiences and a change of pace from daily life

You already failed.

Anyone else do this? I enjoy traveling abroad and watching sports, football, rugby and athletics mainly.

So far I've done London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics, Euro 2016 in France, Barcelona, Madrid, and should be doing the World Cup in Russia next year.

Has /trv/ traveled for sport? Where did you go? Where can people recommend?

I want to visit my gf in scotland again but the hotel prices kill me, she lives with her mom and she has not met me yet.

Any of you live in glasgow or kilmarnock there about and are willing to let me stay over at your place provided I pay for my own meals and for the hospitality and stay?

Anyone here into bike touring?
I have been meaning too go on a trip for a while but I've been busy with classes/work and too scared to go desu.

Any recommendations on gear ect?
Where do you sleep and shower?
How much money will I blow through? I already have a bike, and I'm fit enough too ride 30-40 miles a day easy.

Any recommendations for routes? I'm from eastern Pennsylvania, should I just start at my front door and start riding?

>Where do you sleep and shower?
Usually I spend the night behind churches or in cemeteries though, just with a sleeping pad and sleeping bag. Nobody goes there at night and I'd like to think that potential murderers are somewhat more hesitant to smash my skull while God is watching.
I like to camp at camp sites or just set up tent somewhere in the woods if it's late and there's a suitable spot nearby but often that's not the case. Churches though? Even the smallest of hamlets have one.
Once (or twice a week if the region is cheap) I blow money on proper accodomation.

>Any recommendations on gear ect?
Covered by multiple sites on the internet. Read those to give you an idea. Bike touring is kind of an edgy hobby; there's lots of different preferences and ways to go about it. You gotta do some touring yourself and find out what suits you.
The only advice I'd like to give: Pack fucking LIGHT. You're likely not doing a tour in Siberia during the Russian winter so you're not gonna need 10 layers of clothing and a bear attack survival kit.
Oh and get Ortlieb panniers. Don't even think about touring with a backpack like the faggot in your picture.
Oh and a GPS is grand if you can afford it. Though there's also guys who prefer a good old paper map. It's all up to preference.

>How much money will I blow through?
Depends entirely on how much you wanna spend and what you think you need. A tent goes anywhere between a shitty one for 20 dollars and a storm-proof one for 400.

>and I'm fit enough too ride 30-40 miles a day easy.
lolwut.
I average 90-95 a day on a singlespeed and am not exactly a /fit/izen.
IMO 60-70 miles a day is perfectly possible for pretty much anyone, and it's a fairly leisurely pace.

i cycled for like 10 days in german countryside

washed myself in lakes, slept in parks/fields/back gardens, spent pretty much nothing, rode like 12 hours a day

>60-70 miles a day

I mean I can ride that much a few times a week, not sure about every single day though.

Maybe I'm underestimating though idk

I'll be there for 2 days next week.

Any tips on what to do and what not to do while there?

>>1266195

Thanks. It's just a business travel, as I said, but since I'll be there for 2 days I'll try to use the opportunity to know a bit more about the country.
