I make about $25 USD an hour working from home, and I have plenty of savings, so I've had an idea of living somewhere abroad. Anybody else on here do this? Recommendations for countries? Right now I'm thinking somewhere in central Europe (Prague, Budapest)

If it was me, I'd probably choose Saint Petersburg: low taxes, huge city, lot of tourists. If you are not self-employed, then I'd pick Budapest: hungarians are really friendly people and the life in the country is not that expensive.

One question tho: what kind of job do you do?
>>
>>1270121
You would be better going to some Indo-China country than Europe. Will probably tax you less and it is going to be surprisingly more stable geopolitically. Also your dollars will be worth a ton locally.
>>

I don't like Russia kek, Budapest would be preferable. Is it a well-developed city? Lots to do? I've looked up information about it but it's really hard to tell without being there.

My job is photshopping and keywording photos.

I'm considering moving to San Francisco for my first job since graduating. I worked there as an intern a couple years ago and had a mixed feeling about it. On one hand, the company was amazing, I was given a lot of opportunity to learn and grow in such a short time, but on the other hand, the logistics of living in that area sucked.

I would spend over an hour of commute time to get there living in a $900/month room, and once during an errand I was physically assaulted by a hobo. I hate the hobos. They're fucking everywhere over there.

I'm striking out here in Sacramento, and the company and job seem great over in SF, but I just have too many hang ups about it.

Any advice from natives or others in a similar situation?

Pic related is how I feel when walking the SF streets and riding BART. SO many fucking tents and loud drug addicts all over the god damned place.

Are you allowed to taze or pepperspray drugbums that are attack you or are they considered a protected species in Frisco?

I know leftists hate self-defense and often make it illegal.

No idea, I was carrying a metal pipe with me for comparison to a hardware store. Ran away since he seemed to have a group of friends with him. Wish I could have bashed him in. Everyone there seems to have a chill attitude about them, even the coworker I was with said he'd never seen that happen before.
I would say that I could taze/pepper spray if needed as far I know, which is not much about this city. co workers talked about carrying such things.
>>
You'll need to weigh the pros and cons. I'm an SF native and I'm conflicted about staying here.

On the one hand, the job market is nice.

On the other hand, there are a shitload of cons.

1) It's expensive as fuck. I'm sure you're aware of this. My ex had a nice one bedroom in Sac she was paying $900 for. Pretty sure you can't find anything under $2000 in a non-crackhead-infested neighborhood (and it'll be a studio).
2) The weather is fucking terrible. Seriously. It's been high 50s/low 60s the last few weeks per usual, and it's making me want to kill myself.
3) Dating here is the worst(unless you're gay). Be prepared to grovel to get a date with a chubby bitch who's a 3 who thinks she's 9 cause she lives in the Bay, where the dude to girl ratio is like 5:1.
4) Bums. Bums everywhere. Fuck I hate bums.
5) Fuck this place. I should probably move to San Diego or something.

Motorcycle adventure in the Himalayas. Anyone ever do this? I've looked it up and it looks fun as fuck, but also really dangerous.

You go up Khardung La. I'm thinking of going mid September as the road closes in October due to winter.

I've rented motorcycles several times in India and rode a fair bit around the Himalayas. However, I've not had either the time or the budget to do any proper touring in South Asia.

There's not that much risk, aside from traffic.

The last time I was in India, I met a German man with zero riding experience. We both rented Royal Enfields - I have one in the United States, so it was second nature for me - and took a ride from Manali to Kasol.

He was very slow learning to shift and accelerate.

After a couple days, he was fine. Wound up doing Manali to Leh by bike.

There are some portions of road which are either unpaved or flooded, and which require some caution in navigating. However, the route has been traveled tens of thousands of times by foreign and Indian travelers alike - it has its hazards, but it's nothing too extreme.

Having said that, I would not recommend the ride fro somebody with no riding experience, like my German friend. While I also learned to ride in India, it's not a great idea - there's too much that could go wrong.
>>
>>1273064
Interesting, thanks. Are there any alternative roads there more suited for beginners? Or should I just stay away from it all together.
>>
>>1273205

Not really.

To the best of my knowledge, there are two popular routes to Leh.

One passes through Srinagar - it isn't quite as strenuous or beautiful, but allows riders more time to acclimatize themselves to the altitude.

The other route is transited via the Himachal hill station of Manali and requires passing through the high Rohtang Pass. It's quite a scenic ride but is more technically demanding and takes travelers farther away from civilization.

From what I've gathered, the recommended circuit is to travel to Leh from Srinagar and then return via Manali. That reduces the chance of acquiring altitude sickness and ensures that less-experienced riders will better be able to cope with whatever challenges might lie ahead.

Again - this is largely heresy. I haven't taken either route, although I did ride mos of the way up to the Rohtang Pass from Manali. As far as I can tell, Manali to Rohtang is pretty easy - the roads are decent and there isn't too much traffic until you hit the pass. Do make sure your bike has solid front brakes, because there are times when you'll be braking on a steep incline.

My rental didn't, and I had to stay in first gear and rev the throttle to avoid sliding back downhill - it was a little unnerving, to say the least.

If you learn to ride beforehand, try renting a bike in Manali and doing the two or three hour ride to Kasol. It won't be as rugged as the road between Manali and Leh, but the craggy roads and steep cliffs will give you an idea of what to expect.

I'd been riding for a year and a half before I did that and still felt uncomfortable on the initial journey to Kasol - there aren't any guardrails along the ledge and there are lots of twists over broken, dirty roads.

Was going to say pic related, but my Internet here is too slow for a photo.

Travelling to America.

Will an initial arrest of T.W.O.C. and assault make me inadmissible under moral turpitude even if those charges where dropped and I was convicted of driving without insurance and a D.U.I. both resulting in a £100 fine each and a 12 month driving ban upon receiving my license. I also tested positive for Cocaine in the police station where I was breathalysed but not charged for this.

Anyone have advice on Spanish-language courses in Latin America?

I've spent about three weeks in Mexico and absolutely love it. Unfortunately, I leave next Friday for Tanzania and won't be back in the United States until January, when I'll resume taking university courses.

My tentative plan is to obtain a CELTA in spring (my university offers month-long certification courses) and then spend all of next summer, May through late August, doing an immersive 20- or 25-hour-per week Spanish language class.

Thinking either Mexico (CDMX or Puebla), Guatemala (Antigua or Xela), or Colombia (Bogota), with preference for CDMX or Bogota.

Can anyone give me some insight on what to expect? How much did learning Spanish help you?

I want to do the Peace Corps + a master's degree after I graduate, and I know you need a fair degree of Spanish proficiency for the PC's Latin American programs.

Also, I'm 24 and paying out of pocket, so I don't have an unlimited budget funded by mommy and daddy.

Yo man, I've been studying Spanish for about a year and i would say I'm intermediate. I'm moving to Mexico in about a month to teach english, so i think we are doing the right thing my immersing ourselves in a Spanish speaking country.

Start studying Spanish prior to arriving where ever you take the course, so you can go further with the language. As for courses i don't have to much advice for you, but since your taking a CELTA/TEFL course, why don't you just teach english in Mexico or something? For the language center that i am going to work for offers free Spanish course.
>>
>>1272841

I have to resume my studies at the beginning of September so I can graduate.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I imagine I wouldn't be able to find a teaching position that'd last only for summer.

At any rate, I currently earn enough from freelance writing that I don't really need to teach on top of that.

I'm going to visit Ayers Rock in the beginning of January next year. We'll stay two nights. I'm supposed to rent a car for the whole stay but the car rental conditions say that we can't drive in the area at night for security reasons. However, I was actually looking forward to seeing the sunset and sunrise with the rock.
So my question is: is it still safe to drive just before sunrise and just after sunset?

there are a number of genuine hazards

at dawn or dusk the roads are full of kangaroos which will just jump out in front of you with no warning and get dazed by your headlights.
In the bush people avoid driving at these times if possible, and those who do habitually buy huge bars for the front of their car.
everyone drives slowly at these times unless they are a total retard

The other issue is robbery by aborigines
In remote areas they can block roads and stand in front of cars, if vehicles stop they will assault drivers and steal anything peripheral.
They arn't highly organized gangs or anything, just mobs of drunk gib-be-dats

These gib-be-dats are a nuisance within city limits, but in isolated areas, when they are in groups or drunk (50/50 chance) they become more of a credible threat
>inb4 bullshit
>libshits who have never been in the bush

It's not THAT dangerous, your rental company is just writing it'self a jew clause in the contract to try and sting you.
I'd seriously consider finding a different company
>>
>>1273055
Thanks for your reply!
The conditions are given by the car rental company via the travel agency (I prefer going through one since it's such a "remote" place and so far from home); I'm afraid it wouldn't change much with another company but I will talk about it with the agency.

Are you going from Alice Springs or flying directly to Ayers Rock?

I was just there recently, there's a free campsite just outside the resort area with a view of the rock. Pic is one I took.

You can drive at night but I would go slowly. In the evenings and early mornings a lot of wildlife comes out on the roads. You don't want to hit them cause then you're stuck in the middle of no where. If you do drive do so slowly and drive in the middle of the road so that you have a greater chance of avoiding whatever jumps onto the road. If you're staying near Ayers Rock there shouldn't be much of an issue driving at night, it's not far from the resort or camping areas to the rock itself.

Hey /trv/

me and my gf want to travel to Orlando in October this year.
We we're about to book the flight when we learned of Huricane season.

Can someone explain if, and how this could affect our trip?
Some websites say that Orlando is on a large dry streak, and some websites say this year will be brutal.

The trip will be 10th-25th of October this year, and we will be mainly going to the diffrent parks and seeing america in general.

>We we're about to book the flight when we learned of Huricane season.
It's a non issue most of the time by October.

>Can someone explain if, and how this could affect our trip?
Hurricanes come, usually only last a day or two tops. And you know at least a week before hand, most hurricanes start forming and have a projected path. You'll know ahead of time, most airlines will also cancel flights and refund you if there is one coming.

>Some websites say that Orlando is on a large dry streak, and some websites say this year will be brutal.

Every year is "this is the big one ANDREW 2 is coming BUY INSURANCE GO TO HOME DEPOT ETC"

Thanks for the reply, we're from the Netherlands, so we are pretty used to having shit weather for 80% of the year.

Worst case scenario and one hits while were there. does this mean a shitty rainy day where we will still be able to visit a mall or whatever. or will we have to stay bunkered down in some shitty hotel cellar for hours?
>>
>>1272781
Depends on the catagory, but most generally last a day or two tops. If it's bad a bunch of places may close for a day or two. By October it's highly unlikey you'll get one.

You can basically check on hurricanes here for most of the year http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
