Hey /trv/,

I have been travelling more and more for work and vacation, and I was looking into AirBnB as an alternative to hotels and hostels.

I am staying in a house right now with a friend. Our first night was great, total privacy. The second day was an afternoon text message followed by the host and her parents watering the lawn and flowers for 2.5 hours. I expected some privacy for the amount I was paying, but I am unsure how this company works.

Any good/bad experiences? I may use this as I do more business internationally, but I want to see how you guys feel about it.

I would like to know more about your workplace. Who pays for the travel expenses?

I have to ask just in case. If the cost comes out of your pocket, then yes, you should try to save as much money as possible. If the company pays for it, then fuck it, get a real hotel.
>>
>>1277645
If someone doing some groundskeeping while you are there , puts you off, then you are not likely airbnb material
>>

I've had nothing but good experiences (well maybe one bad one, but that was due to neither of us speaking the other language which caused some miscommunication). I usually pick ones that at least have a few reviews, and nice pictures. It's generally been quite representative for me, even when I looked for a better deal by staying in places that only had one or two reviews. The system for rating works very nicely where neither can see the feedback until you both write it, which prevents the sort of angry review battles I see a lot.

Like the other person said though, you're living at someone's apartment, you should expect some intrusion. If you really can't bear to have anyone on your property for any reason, then I'm guessing you won't generally be a fan.

This whole process is overly complicated. Can any of you Anons help?

>American citizen
>living in the UK with a PO Box and not an actual address
>unsure of what exactly I need to get a Russian visa, there's too much conflicting info

From what I gather, I need
-Travel insurance (can I get this from USAA, or do they want me to use some Russian provider?)
-Letter of Invitation (have it, with booking info)
-Visa Application

I then call the embassy, bring this to them, and they approve it, all me up, and I get a sticker in my passport. Is this right?

Insurance doesn't have to be Russian, USA insurance that covers Russia is perfectly fine.

You may have to fill out a list of questions and add the printed version. I know I have to as a EU citizen. Personally have always used a visa service company to avoid bureaucratic nightmares associated with the embassy here.

Bring them toys/gifts that don't require or would inspire adult participation. Books that are activity books, really childish games, dressup stuff, gift certificates to stuff around town. Keep in their good graces, but no one should be hitting you. Just kindly say, uncle lazyass needs to sit a moment, but later we'll play a game of that twister/yahtzee, ok? Be tired, but be nice about it.

I want to find an asian city where i can live for 2-3 months feeling like a british/french lieutenant in colonies somewhere in 1930s.

Go to some backwoods Indian village.
Wear a nice uniform and go with the intention of hiring locals to fix the place up. (Buying material, planning projects etc.)

This is pretty much the only way you can do it, because just showing and larping as a boss man will probably get you beat up.
>>
>>1277081
Mb Rangoon? Old-fashioned colonial city in Burma where people dont know about internet and read newspapers every morning as 50 years ago, where you can find on the streets trucks and buses from the WW2 times.
>>
>>1277081
Myanmar for sure. Go to Dala and people will invite you inside their huts to eat with them and will sing songs to you.

Only people who have been through Hanover/surrounding cities or are German born, please.

I'll be traveling to Hanover soon, is it safe? How has migration affected the place and should I worry about crime/keep an eye out? Are the migrants who have arrived fine or are they causing problems?

If any Germans are offended, I apologise but I would rather ask in advance than not do so.

you're fine as in any other German city. Maybe don't be piss drunk at 2AM wearing your rolex and waving around with a full wallet in an dark alley. if you can avoid doing that, you're gonna be fine
>>
>>1277063
Have Aunt and cousins in Germany as well as lots of friends living all over the country.

It's still pretty safe if you happen to be a dude. But things have changed alot.

The migrants are a very real problem anywhere they congregate.
Germany, despite being amazing at keeping records is going through that funny phase that Sweden is going through where they don't report shit that brown people do wrong.
There's alot more bad stuff going on in terms of assaults, sexual assaults, theft and what not then Germany would boast about.

Just avoid big groups of people who are not German.
Turks won't bother you, but anyone else just might.

Its fairly safe. Just not Munich kind of "safe".
Just dont expect to feel safe around central station at 2 in the night. Even ugly women have probelms there.

How bad are the traffic jams? When are the peak hours and how much time should I budget for, say, an airport transfer to central Jakarta, or a 10 km taxi trip?

Also general tips or fun stuff, I guess. Headed there for a work trip in August. I'm reasonably familiar with Southeast Asia, but the last time I was in Indonesia was years ago.

Forgot to mention - are things like GrabTaxi and Uber reliable? I've also heard that I can use Go-Jek to order in-call (non-lewd) massages and other services.
>>
The trip to the airport is a bit better because it's through the bypass which isn't too bad. On the other hand, it took us 45min for a 5km taxi trip from the old town to downtown. Use the buses, they have priority lanes.
>>
The traffic jams are known as 'macet' and can add hours onto a short trip.
There are several apps that you can use to help navigate through this...
I think ' Waze' is the one that most of my friends in jkta use

Has anybody stayed in some capsule hotels around Singapore?

Experiences? Did you died? I'm looking for some pleasant ones in main areas. I tend to like active hotels rather than quiet ones.

Not Singapore but they basically have the same setup in most of asia. It just comes down to the price. The capsule hotel in your PIC op is probably 60ish USD a night. Most all capsule hotels are fairly quiet, but paying over 25 bucks a night for one is not worth it IMO. Capsule hotels are cool for about the first 30 minutes, till you realize that you are sleeping in a box.
>>

I stayed at The POD in Kampang Glam. It's nice but it is on the quiet side. Aside from that it's in a great location and it's clean and has good amenities. I'd recommend it if you're set on staying in one of these.
>>
>>1274831
This reminds me of that airport startup that lets you rent out small rooms for a few hours while waiting to board.

I hit the jackpot I've been at my job over 30 years since it's start and I've gotten 5 years off PAID. It's literally always been able to be able to travel. Besides some US cities I've only been to Canada and a day in Tijuana when I was a child. I have three kids but the last one graduated college last year so no worries about them. When I told my wife I started planning some countries I thought I could get to in five years. I'd use the money my company pays me to do the trip because it's five years off paid. I'm still emotional thinking about it because I love my company and they've valued my work. But my wife got mad when I said we'd go together because she says she's always been a housewife and she wants alone time and she says somebody needs to stay with the house. After an argument we decided she would go on the trip using the money and I'd housesit. I'm sort of crushed because it's been my dream for so long to see the world. But it's only fair because she has been a housewife while I've been able to work. She got angry at my map of countries I'd see because she wants more resorts/places to meet other travelers. It's not really how I'd want to travel. I don't know where to recommend. Please help me find some resorty places/places to meet travel companions. I know it's hard to find for five years. But I'm at a loss and I want them quickly before it's a fight.

>>
Am I understanding you correctly? Your wife is forcing you to stay at home while she goes out and travels?
It's fair enough if she wants a piece of the action, but the house ain't gonna fall down without someone there to hold the walls up.

Anyway, there are resorts in every country in the world. What is your question?

Am I a fucking idiot for wanting this Osprey Farpoint 55 bag so hard?

Not gonna lie, pretty well fell in love with it when some travel vloggers (vagabrothers) flicked their beans to it. If those cunts got paid then fairo, they sold it to me.

I'm wanting to buy it for a 27 day trip to Europe in October. I'll squiz around London, Denmark, through a few german cities, maybe Prague, then a fucken $$$$ week in Switzerland before running back to London for the flight home. I'm doing it mostly on my own, so i figured the backpack would be most convenient. The daypack is sick, the full openeing shit is dope, heaps of space? Only problem is it won't carry on for ryanair which only bones me 1 time. (da best time)

So if I am a cunt for wanting it, what would you suggest?

Travel backpacks are way more expensive than conventional backpacks.

That being said, if you're planning on spending that kind of cash on a backpack, you might as well get the one that's heavily favored by travelers.

If I had to suggest anything else, then I guess it would be a PacSafe or a Tortuga.

Short answer: Do it, faggot.

I hope you are both into loud obnoxious party towns populated entirely by drunk tourists and prostitutes. I mean unless you stray from bangkok after 48 hours like you should.
Don't pay more for shit than you need to, of course sometimes you can't get a deal or just don't have the patience for it but know how much you're being ripped off by. Don't pay double for shit.
Don't trust the taxi guy to name you anything near a fair price, nor should you expect him to use a meter.
Don't go to a pingpong show. Grab a private room for you and the GF, the shared cost wont be much more than a trashy hostel and you won't have to worry about the trashpackers screwing her as you sleep.

lel, weak bait

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_nationality_law

>Japan is a strict jus sanguinis state as opposed to jus soli state, meaning that it attributes citizenship by blood and not by location of birth.
>Article 2 of the Nationality Act provides three situations in which a person can become a Japanese national at birth:
>1. When either parent is a Japanese national at the time of birth
>2. When the father dies before the birth and is a Japanese national at the time of death
>3. When the person is born on Japanese soil and both parents are unknown or stateless

Are you sure? Because I acquired citizenship back in 2012 by proving I have a stable income, living in Japan for more than 5 years and renouncing my US citizenship. I also had no crime record.

I'm student and I'm slowly thinking about living abroad.
So,expats of /trv/what are your experience ? Why did you leave ? How is your life now ? Did you had to learn a new language (for job,...) ?

Just pick your place wisely, no 3rd or 2nd world countries, not a big city with a lot of crime

I Personally would only ever study abroad in countries like:
>West and Central Europe (excluding Switzerland for obvious reasons)
>Australia and New Zealand
>canada and US, if you arent from the US
>Japan or South Korea

Your best college experience will come from Australia/New Zealand and the US, your worst will be asian college, and Europe will be enh, I enjoyed studying in Salzburg a lot, but the college experience was shit, I barely went to class or worried about that shit, most of my time was traveling around the local area and going to different countries with friends i made

Also studied for a semester in Auckland and mother fuck those people know how to have a great college experience, suprisingly better than an SEC college, plus their accent is awesome

I forgot there wasn't flair here.
I'm from Europe (belgium): I thought about Sweden or us.
Sadly I'm not good enough in my grades to be accepted for erasmus.
Since I'm in medicine study, I'll have to know the language of the country to be able to work.
But yeah it's difficult to chose a specific destination: I went to Stockholm and liked a lot the city. For us I just went on holiday in California with family some years ago and I didn't like it
>>
>>1279101
Sounds like you are a C-grade student who wants to study medicine abroad.
What the fuck makes you think this will make life easier.
