Saudi Arabian Red Sea Project, what do you guys think?

https://twitter.com/TheRedSeaSA/status/892180160300150784

they said the laws of Saudi Arabia would be separate from the islands

would you go?

99% sure I'll never go here. The landscape looks cool but it'll be overpriced & artificial
>>
Saudis are running out of oil and they're hurrying to find alternate ways of making money.
Too bad they spent most of the oil money for their disgusting royal family and elite and didn't do much for their country.

I would never go there, I'd never bring my money to some of the most oppressive governments in the world. Saudi-Arabia is literally the most disgusting, human rights lacking shithole where hopefully in the future the citizens will rise and eat alive their royals and elite families.
>>
I live near umluj. Its a sleepy beach town that only saudis go to but really needs a lot of investment. It has a lot of potential. You can get drugs and alcohol if you know where to look. Rules are quite laxed compared to majority of saudi. I dont think people will go there desu as sharm el sheikh is so close by as well as jordan.

Thoughts on the 'Party Hostel' ? Are they worth the hype?

Do you like hostels? Do you like parties?
If so, yes.
>>
They are fun if you are traveling with a group, or if you're ok with making friends on the go. If you're a socially awkward recluse, you might spend all your time hiding in your shared room and listening to everyone else have fun
>>
The reason I book lodging is so I can have a place to sleep when I'm traveling.

These kinds of places look difficult to get sleep in.

Where exactly is this location? I would like to take a similar picture with my own camera.

Has anyone ever been to Prague? If so what did you enjoy most during your time there? I am open to any interesting recommendations, or convenient hostel experiences you are willing to share.

Děkuji

The city is basically Tucson, AZ at higher elevation with more crime and snow in the winter.
New Mexican food is great though.

>>
>>1283080
this. i've lived there and will probably be moving back. some people can't get over how brown things are but I actually like it, especially the adobe style houses. the mountains are awesome, the food and culture of NM is awesome and very unique within the US. ABQ just feels very welcoming and comfy to me. Next time I go back I want to start training at some of the MMA gyms. Also the lack of humidity is great. Only downside is it's geographically isolated from other large cities

What does everyone use as their best sources of finding 'things to do' at their travel destinations?

I used to use tripadvisor, but the 'top 10 things to see/do' are mostly garbage.

Lets get some discussion going because the sticky is useless and devoid of much information at all.

I like tripadvisor
Also use lonelyplanet
>>
I use a mix of everything. TripAdvisor is very useful, the "top 10 things" is nice to get a general view of the town you're visiting, but then I also check the other categories (museums, activities, tours..) and more than once I found some cool hidden gem in the last pages of those lists. Another useful thing about TripAdvisor are the comments and the reviews, from them you can discover tips like the timetables of that specific museum, the fees, or if a certain monument is closed to the public in that time..

Beside TripAdvisor, I also check other travel blogs or sites just looking for "what to do in ......" on google. If the place you're visiting is first world, you could also check the official tourism webpage of the country/town, but most of them are shit

I'm about to start backpacking with a friend of mine throughout the US.

He has never really done much travelling before and is super excited to be doing this together.

Problem is, I really want to travel solo, as I want to meet new people, couchsurf, spend days doing nothing really except sitting on tinder and meeting locals, and leave all the shackles of my life in my home country behind.

I can't ditch him entirely, because we've already planned to meet up, but how can I manage this/what can I say to him to explain this without ruining a really good friendship?

Is it possible to do these things while travelling together? Or what can I say to be able to part ways entirely?

Not really.

oh bro you'll be fine. after a week or two in he'll be doing his own thing. you guys will get into all sorts of shit together. just don't let him stop you from doing what you want, drag his ass along even if he doesnt wanna go where you go or tell him to fuck right off

About to start a 6 month journey around Europe.

I've finally reached my desired weight, and started to leave DYEL mode, but I am concerned about shrinking dramatically without easy access to large quantities of food and no gym access, whilst backpacking.

The question is simple - how do you keep /fit/ whilst backpacking? We're talking size here, not cardio, that will be easy.

I do pushups with a full backpack, plus in my hostel room every night I do crunchies, situps, all that high school gym class jazz.
>>
You'll lose weight anon, no matter what.
Unless if you are the kinda person who stays +7days at a time in a city and have gym access in each city, you just have to accept that you will lose muscle mass. There is no way around it if you're backpacking and moving from city to city.

Food access is everywhere, and I find that I can get protein bars in a lot of places. And tuna cans are literally everywhere and cheap. You can do crunches and sit ups in your hostel dorm but your goal should be weight maintenance and hope that you will maintain.

That picture is from Phuket (Patong most likely), and those are Australians pictured, appear to be of Lebanese extraction, based on the rat tail hair style and predilection for board shorts & no shirt...in other words, scumbags or low class people from Sydney. Don't be like them.

What can you tell me about Moldova?

I'd like to rent a car and drive to Odessa (avoiding Transnistria), and then come back to Moldova. Would I have problems crossing the Ukrainian border?

Then I'd like to go to Tiraspol from Chisinau and go back, all of it by bus, so that should be completely fine.

Is anyone else disappointed at the lack of quality travel oriented shows?

I have seen this brought up here before a few times when people ask what shows to watch. Usually the same names are thrown around; Departures, An Idiot Abroad, Long Way Down/Round, Parts Unknown, Rick Steves shows...and that's about it. Sure there's a few other ones, there's a few more about food that involve some travel, but overall there's not much choice and not much new content is coming up.

So I guess my question is, why? Travel/tourism is more popular than ever and yet it seems like it's not a popular topic to create shows around. If you were to create a tv show that involves travel what would it be about? (food, backpacking, participating in some cultural events, etc.)

Same. I grew up with Globe Trekker/Lonely Planet on PBS. There are some gems out there but not what you would expect these days. I think a lot of it has moved to YouTube.
>>
I forgot to answer the second part of the question. You can call it a gimmick if you want, but I like travel shows with an objective. Ewan and Charley were on motorcycles, and Karl Pilkington was intentionally put in uncomfortable situations for the purpose of recording his reaction. Those make for incredibly enjoyable tv. I think it would be interesting to go to a foreign country and live with a family for a weekend. Maybe one weekend with a lower income family and the next weekend with an upper middle class family to understand how the majority of people live.

I think michael palin deserves to be in the list of good shows. And simon reeve maybe depending on which subject

Chicago is where you go to get murdered by spooks.

Los Angeles is ass. People go there thinking it'll be something like the movies they see and they're always let down.

New York is pretty much exactly what you imagine it to be. Huge city. Beautiful buildings. Plenty of assholes. World-class food. Museums. Trump Tower. Everything that makes America great.

Hey /trv/, starting in March I'll be in Japan for a year for my required study abroad. I want to spend all of February just snowboarding somewhere. I can afford something kind of expensive but I'd prefer to save some cash. Any advice on places to bum out snowboarding for a month? Doesn't have to be in Japan but Asia would be preferred. Also I just got back from Svalbard and Jan Mayen. I'll post some pics

It's way above the rest of Romania in terms of average income. Not like Western Europe, but not too bad.

>ugly
Many buildings are vacant and there are area's full of commie blocks. But there are very pretty area's too.
>with gypsies everywhere
You'll see more of them in Paris or Barcelona.
>romantic place
Some parts are yup, especially with good weather.
>lots of fun things
Kind of, it has an awesome nightlife, many parks, opera and plays,... Don't expect it to be on the level or London or something, but you can definitely have fun there.
>secrets to discover
Hell yes.

Thanks. I plan on moving there for a few months. Do you think it would be easy to meet english-speaking friends? I'm 24.
