How do you guys fund your travels? Specifically the people who talk about dropping 200+ euros a night in London, Vegas and New York, what do you do for a living to have that kind of expendable money?
130 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
I slaved as a chef for six years.
>>
>>1290216
Just go work and don't waste your money for cigarettes, expensive poser cars and other useless stuff.

200 euro a night? In Vegas this doesn't even last an hour.

However most of the money I spent is for flights and hotels as I just fly business class and use 5 star hotels.

But with just 3000 Euro per week you can have really nice travel experiences.

No need to be rich!
>>

Slave in various jobs, live with parents while doing so, then airbnb my entire trip.

I also strongly prefer hiking and cheap self made food to retarded tourist experiences like the eiffel tower or $100 meals.

I am slowly reaching the maximum amount of time I can trvel but I still want more.

>4 years ago went on 1 month long trip
>3 years ago go on 1 month long trip
>2 years ago go on 2 one month long trips
>this year go on 3 two week trips

I just got back and I am wanting to go on another trip. I need to fucking stop but I cant help it I get so bored of my daily routine.

Once I don't feel like it anymore. Pretty straightforward.

Been to Canada + US

The Philippines is a Southeast Asian country in the Western Pacific, comprising more than 7,000 islands.

What do, where go?

Bump. I'm going to Manila for a week in December. Most of the Trip Advisor sites are historical churches, malls, and gardens. I'll try a few of those, but surely there are bigger exciting things to see (and not party stuff either).

Any dark tourism sites around there? Bataan Death march tour or something extreme like that?
>>
There are the remains of an old Spanish fort on Corregidor and Intramuros in Manila. That's about it unless you get out into the country

If you visit the phillippines dont visit manila, theres literally nothing to do there, its just like visiting a city in a different language, best places to go are the islands, just make sure you dont go too far south, pretty dangerous down there, me and a friend went to an island called Isla Verde, real nice island with some real nice people plenty to do there also

Planning to go here with my mate during Labor Day weekend. Can anyone give me some advice regarding stuff to do there and where to camp or lodge? Thanks, senpai. Will two and half days be long enough to experience the park?

Best way to see the park is backpacking through it off the tour trails but that'll take more than a couple days and you need decent equipment. It's beautiful anyway tho

I'm going to Guyana in a week for a wedding. My wife and I are going to hit up some tourist destinations: Keiteur Falls and Bartica as well. We'll be staying at family members' houses for a few days. Has anyone been there? What am I to expect? My wife was born there but hasn't been back in 12 years. She also grew up in a shitty part of Georgetown so her view of the place is a crime ridden hell hole. What am I to expect as a white boi in a place that doesn't receive too many tourists.

For native English speakers, yes. There are other languages that might be easier based on your personal learning style but of the European languages it's your best bet.

*Info on prostitution*
Please try to refrain from asking questions about prostitution.
Japan's sex industry is almost completely inaccessible to foreigners who do not speak Japanese.
What is available can generally be found in the following links

*Note about the JR Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥

Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

Question please.
I'm thinking of renting electric bicycle in kawaguchi lake to tour the area, but I didn't see any bicycle parking spot anywhere in there unlike big cities.
What should I do with the bike if i want to take a stop for a while and walk a bit ? Is it ok to leave it in roadside or maybe put it somewhere near car park or what ?

Just take a bike lock/chain and possibly try to leave something (a note?) to say "I will be back soon, please do not move!"

>How important is it to keep an exact itinerary of bus/train/etc paths to and from each destination?

I have all of my various excursions over 2.5 weeks in Kyoto and Tokyo planned, reserved where necessary and pinned on a Google map. Can I just check the buses when I'm there and ask for help if necessary? I don't want to waste too much time lost or be a shit constantly asking poor strangers for assistance, but at the same time I've been told that the public transport system is incredibly easy to navigate if you know the destination.

If you had to live in one of these cities forever, which would it be?

Planning a 2-3 week vacation to Thailand, however I have never been outside of Europe. I also can't seem to find anyone who can go with me for either financial/work reasons. Considering going alone, however my biggest fear is that I might get lonely and won't enjoy the trip as much. I'm planning on staying in a cheap hotel/airbnb since it's dirt cheap in Thailand, and money wise it really ain't a problem for me.

I know a lot of people have said that you meet a lot of people by staying in hostels, which might be understandable but I'm reluctant to stay in a hostel because Idk if i could sleep at night in a room with 6 other random people sleeping on the bunk above me.

What do yall usually do when travelling alone? I can take care of myself no problem, just fear the trip might not be as fun as I hope if I'm there solo.

Planning on visiting Phuket, Phi Phi Islands, Railay Beach/Ao Neng and Bangkok at the end.
29 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Stay in some of the bungalows on Phi Phi and hang out in some of the beach bars. You will meet lots of people. If all else fails there are some nice Thai women who can keep you company for a fee.
>>
>>1288468
You will get lonely when you travrl solo sometimes, that is just a fact.

You will also experience alot of amazing moments with new people. Higher highs, lower lows. Just give it a try.

Hostels are great places to meet new people. And talk to people straight away, and you wont get cold feet
>>
>>1288468
You can't stop the loneliness, but it's all at the beginning and then you just get over it. It's like this excitement>loneliness>boredom>enjoying the trip

So don't worry about it, if you can't handle it, go to places that speak good english and have people who you can easily be friends with.

Can you reccomend any cities worth visiting that aren't over crowded?

It is the nature of cities to be crowded. Try low season

Whenever I see pictures like this, I always wonder how fast the train is moving.

Reasons I ask this:
>the train is clearly over-capacity
>the occupants aren't afraid of hanging off a moving train
Which leads me to believe that the train must be moving slow enough to not scare the shit out of its passengers.

What's your opinion about spain and its people?

Tapas were overrated, Spanish food in general is not very good; but you guys have a superior drinking culture.

Beautiful countryside, I found the cities less interesting than I expected and I don't know why or think I can justify those feels. There are tons of cool cultural events, I liked that a lot.

Guys were fun to hang out with, they're funny bros. Girls seemed kinda snotty.
>>
>Spain
Aesthetically it's probably the most beautiful country in Europe, both in its nature and in its villages and cities. I love the spectrum of cultures, cuisine, and architecture. The best part about the nature is the diversity, from the hardwood forests and snowcapped mountains in the north to the deserts and mediterranean forests in the south.
>its people
Generally speaking, I've found them to be very standoffish. In my experience, they won't even make eye contact or respond when you say 'buenas dias' to a stranger on the street. Hardly anyone speaks any other languages, not even French or Italian. Moreover, hitchhiking is next to impossible in Spain, and that's my main standard for judging people.

50 litres with special gear and tight packing
depends where you go and if you have acces to laundry machines

-casual street clothes
-hike and outdoors clothes
-somewhat stylish clothes

Clothes + shoes + toiletries will quickly add up. I'm doing 7 days and 35L isn't enough anymore.

What the hell? I'm doing a month with 35l right now and could probably do less. Got six changes of clothes in there and a big toiletry bag, as well as some chargers and kindle and phone. Also socks and undies
Shoes I'll give you but there's no reason to have more than 2 pairs and you can always hang it off the back

If you aren't camping I honestly don't know what these people carry in 60L bags

I hear those are pretty cool but filled with old american couples. I've done the Queretari wine and cheese tour, and I'd recommend that if you're in Mexico City and up for a comfy drive there.

sayulita, zipolite, mina de naica (chihuahua), hiking in Nuevo Leon, obviously cenotes in Quintana Roo and Yucatan
