How exactly do these things work? The way I understand it after a friend told me about them is

>you need to have at least a few thousand bucks to be eligible so you can afford a return flight
>you work a part time job
>???
>after 6-12 months you get booted back to home country

Any of you folks have experience with these?

In Australia on a working visa atm. Getting a job is a lot harder than advertised. Lots of places want to rip you off. Horse farmers in particular, no clue why.

Just think, for every backpacker you hear talking about making big bucks in Oz, Im guessing atleast a handfull had to go back home broke and empty handed.
>>
Every country is different. I'm one of the ones that made a killing in Oz. There's very few who make a killing doing farm work... And it's not the backpackers who get those jobs. So if you do your 88 days to get the 2nd year visa then get out of that shit. The farm work soured my experience in Oz. You know it's bad when the Abbos don't even wanna do it. Lolol.

To answer your question, OP: you're supposed to have X amount of money in the bank to prove that you can survive while you find a job. I went with - 3000 in the bank and left with like 18k after 5 months. Luckily, I didn't get checked by the officer on the way in or I would've been fucked.
>>

Where were you and what were you doing that enabled you to make that much money in 5 months?

No matter how many online searches I've done for places to check out and how many hours I've walked around a city, I always feel like I haven't explored it properly

How do you make sure that you've checked out as much as you can and not missed any gems when you travel to a place?

How do you personally research a place you're going to visit, /trv/?

>How do you make sure that you've checked out as much as you can and not missed any gems when you travel to a place?
I don't even try to do this. If I'm traveling for business I'm lucky if I manage to get a little feel for the place. If I'm traveling for pleasure I enjoy kicking back.
>How do you personally research a place you're going to visit, /trv/?
I don't because I'm married to a girl who is a really great researcher. If she's traveling with me I tell her what I'm interested in doing/seeing/eating and she does the research. Thankfully she doesn't mind missing stuff either. She's more into just finding a good place to hang and hanging there.

You just have to accept it that you CANNOT (and will not) experience / see everything in each place, unless you stay there for "way too long".

Just accept it and enjoy moments. See some "top 10 trip advisor" things and just stroll around the place, talk with some locals or if you don't speak the language, just hang out with local areas. Much more fun than going to Old Religious place #4523, Famous Building where X happaned or the Waterfall.

>Much more fun than going to Old Religious place #4523, Famous Building where X happaned or the Waterfall.
This. There are the sights all the tourists are going to see, but if the place is anything more than a tourist trap there will be much more interesting things going on. Just look for where the locals go to have a good time.

So I'm going to the Netherlands for ten days. I'll be staying in Zaandam.

What all should I do besides the obvious stuff like Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum, windmills, and tulips?

Set fire to that hotel.

to me it always looked like something someone came up with on acid
>>
>what should I do other than waiting in line for hours and hours with all the other tourists?
How about literally anything else.

Last time I was there the line in front Anne Frank house went two blocks and around the corner. At it was raining heavily at the time. Van Goth museum was not as bad but still bad.
Amsterdam has the worst tourists in the history of tourism.

Save more money or stay for less time.

Im a 19yo college student and I really want to stay for the 8 months, I could stay 3 months instead but I wanna experience this
>>
>>1208047
You cannot keep yourself fed and sheltered for 125 dollars a month unless you find someone willing to subsidize you for most of your trip, as in, couchsurfing almost every day for 8 months, with your host throwing some food your way. That isn't even considering transportation between those countries will eat up most of the 1000 just by itself, unless you hitchhike the entire way.

Seriously think about it, 1000 dollars for 8 months is living on a little over 4 dollars a day. Even in Thailand or Cambodia it isn't possible.

I guarantee you have shit you don't really need that you can sell to get more cash, or that you can go to your mom or dad or aunt or uncle or brother and scrape together at least a few more hundred dollars. If you really want to make it the whole 8 months, sell everything you don't truly need, borrow money from friends and family, or best of all, get a job and work and save it up. When do you plan to leave, how much time do you have to earn money?

Don't forget you can sell blood plasma in America and make 50 bucks a week at it, do it for 3 months straight and you'd have increased you budget by 60%, which makes this go from completely impossible to just regular impossible.

Im in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia right now. I really like bringing home cool stuff and collectables that you cant find at home in the west. Anyone know of any interesting things you can buy in Malaysia?

This place is big, and the majority of the stores sell garbage. I was thinking that someone might know a less known place
>>
Kuala Lumpur ? you can get everything from west in Kuala Lumpur. Actually it is a bad time for ya to come to Malaysia right now cause there are many interesting places in Malaysia are closed due to flash flood. Here states in Malaysia where you can buy cool stuff that doesn't have in the west countries , Melaka , Terengganu, Kelantan, Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang. Just google it and you will find many interesting place to visit. But I prefer you to go to Melaka because it is a history state. Have fun

We have good spicy foods

my boyfriend wants to come spend the summer here (hes a russian citizen), so would it be better for him to get a tourist visa or a visitors visa? we've read that visitor visas are much more likely to get declined than tourist visas, and tourist visas are good for 3 years, which is a lot more time for him to visit whenever. would he have to provide proof of getting a hotel or whatever if he gets a tourism visa? because hes planning on staying with me. He's also traveled to a lot of different countries, so would that help in his chances of being accepted as a tourist? can we get some advice from someone whos been through the process

While it is good for 3 years I thought (just as thought as I am a burger) that you still only had a small number of days you could stay in the country in those 3 years.

Which would you rather do? I have a pretty cheap way to do either;

>Golden ring in Iceland for one day, then camping and BBQ on a glacier in Greenland for 2

Or

>Fossil hunting in Svalbard, then visit the almost abandoned Soviet mining town

I reached a preference pretty quickly
>>
Definately the second one
>>
Both sounds nice.
I'd also go with the second one, but it obviously depends on price too.
Neither one sounds cheap but if there's a considerable price difference, I may choose for the cheaper regardless because both sound really nice.

So, how much for each?

Hello 4Chan!

American here. Thinking of going to Costa Rica for the first time as a solo trip for a week. General tips? Is it safe to go alone? Mainly would like to go to the beach.
6 posts and 1 images submitted.

just got back from Costa Rica a few months ago.

Going alone should be safe.

Costa Rican beaches aren't anything special. I went there hoping to see some gorgeous beaches but was let down.

I did however enjoy the mountains, rain forests, waterfalls, hot springs, volcano, wildlife, and their fresh fruits. I'm more of a beach guy myself but I would still love to go back to enjoy more of what the country had to offer.

In a few months my friends and I will be going on a small road trip from Toronto to one of these destinations. Which one would be best to go to for a 4 day weekend?

Which city has a better a better nightlife? Which one just has better things to do in general? Also I'm partial to cool old architecture, should that even be a consideration when going to one of these cities?

I'm deciding between these 2 because they seemed to be like the best cities in the north east US with in reasonable driving distance, so I'm open to any other suggestions. I intentionally left NYC out because that will be another trip.

Hi!
My friend and I are travelling to Tel-Aviv in two weeks and we are eager to see as much as possible in one week time. Can anyone from Israel or someone who have visited this country recommend any extraordinary places of interest? We are mostly looking for some natural beauties or historical ones(authentic though - we are not big fans of museums). We would be extremely grateful for any tips or recommendations!

It's a small country so if you have one week you should also go outside of Tel Aviv. It's only one hour by bus to Jerusalem for example.
>>
>>1209091
Of course! We wish to visit as many places as possible. Tel-Aviv is just a starting point ;)
>>
>>1209092
Go check out the West Bank just because you can. It's easy to go there and back from Jerusalem. At least visit Ramallah and Bethlehem.

The Palestinian beer brand Taybeh is one of the best I've ever had. Especially the dark one. By all means try it. It's not easy to find inside Israel though but it's easy in WB.
