I know Sealand is popular on the internet and with geography/quirky politics nerds. I just moved about an hour from the closest point to it on the coast, but there's zero info about tours.
Any of you anons know anything? Boats that take you up to it? Even novelty stores on the beach around it?
If they would speak Esperanto as the official language, they'd be perfect.
>>1210048
Meh, I heard New Sealand is better. Apparently it's just off the coast of Australia
>>1210048
>Sealand
That is just some stupid gimmick for one family to make some money. It's literally useless and on the same level as those sites that sell you land on the moon.
Planning a European trip for this spring. (Late April to midway through June). Pic related general area. Already planning on hitting up most of the major cities/obvious tourist shit.
Wondering about peoples experiences with these places/which they would recommend if I can only go to a couple.
>Siena
>Ravenna
>Heidelberg
>Augsburg
>Zell am See
>Hallstat
>Dijon
>Metz
Open to suggestions for any other non-immediate but still easily accessible destinations.
Main interests are nature/history/drinking if that helps.
Definitely check out Southern France
Definitely check out Northern Italy.
Definitely check out Western Austria.
I'm looking to do a trip over the summer going from Suriname into the Central American peninsula and ending in the northwest of Mexico. I would preferably spend a good chunk of time in Columbia and Venezuela. Has anyone recently visited these countries and how was the experience overall? I'm aware of the safety concerns in general but am looking to check out hands on experiences.
Do NOT go to Venezuela.
I've been planning to go there for a past year, waiting for a situation to calm down, but it's getting worse and worse.
Unless you're a Latin guy who speaks Spanish, you WILL be robbed and probably killed, as there is literal anarchy there, little police and soldiers and lots of guns - I talked with several Venezuelans over the past month, and all of them definitely said that situation there is fucked up. Some people say it's only in larger cities, but I somehow doubt you will be able to avoid some problems.
But it's up to you.
Been to Colombia a couple times.. loved it.
Santa Marta is kinda a shithole, but its a good jump off point for some cool places...
Cartagena is incredible, and Minca was a nice place to relax and hike

I appreciate the advice, didn't expect anything helpful on 4chan to be honest. I think I'm going to continue research before making a decision but your opinion seems to be pretty widespread. Any experience going in or out of the country on land?
Can you make a career out of teaching abroad? I'm native English but do not have a degree. From what I understand, SE Asia, South America and Eastern Europe all have opportunities if you do a TEFL course?
I have no prospects back home and if I'm going to become a minimum wage slave I figured I might as well go and live abroad and have an experience. Is it possible to progress at all and increase your earnings or are you basically stuck in low paid foreign teaching positions for life?
Also, I'd rather teach adults or do private tuition. Do you have to start with schoolkids and work your way up?
>>1208018
From what I've read Cambodia is pretty lenient in terms of who they employ, but you are probably going to be stuck teaching kids without a degree.
>>1208018
English teachers even with a college degree typically have a hard salary cap unless its a Master's or PhD. You're never going to get a role of importance without a degree and being a non-native speaker of the country
I spent a year in China. I met expats there who had been living there for years and never planned on moving back home. While I guess it is possible, eventually everyone has to return back home. You cannot be 55 and still be expecting to be doing this. You are completely at the mercy of the foreign country and company you are in. When you eventually have to return what will you do? You can live very well, but it is not reality anon and many people do not realize it. Work a few years, save the money, and get out.
Every year I go to Taiwan for 2 weeks for Chinese New Year. Every time I go I poop about 2x during the whole 2 weeks.
What are some ways to avoid travel constipation?
>>1205817
Easy on the rice and tea. Eat leafy vegetables (stir fried bok choi and other greens).
Or, drink tap water.
You'll poop either way
>>1205856
Taiwan is first world. You can definitely drink tap water in Taiwan without getting sick.
>>1205857
Can you vouch for the piping of every place, for the reservoirs of every area?
Pretty sure a tourist has a good chance of shitting in spray if he drinks tap water while not being used to it.
Hi folks,
I'm planning on travelling to Japan around May of this year. It'll also be my first time travelling alone (though I'm meeting a friend at the airport there).
What kind of prep work do I need to do before going?
-I've started learning basic Japanese, but so far I can only speak very simple sentences.
-I've also looked into how much it will cost to get a train pass.
-I'm planning on staying at AirB&B locations.
-I have a budget of $5,000 total (before plane tickets)
-I'm looking into worldwide cell phone plans
-I've figured out a list of locations and tourist attractions I'd like to visit (the one I really want to get to is Aokigahara Forest, but aside from that, if circumstances prevent me from visiting the other places, I'm alright with that)
I'm at the exact same situation
Though apart from my list. I still want to find other tourist attractions. I am very interested in the history part of Japan.
>>1210379
I'd point you to the japan general thread to begin with guys. But even then, since TRV is slow i'll placate you, going on my fifth trip to japan in november so I guess I have the experience.
>you don't really need japanese (I have conversational level, can talk to people on topical issues and smalltalk easily, as well as talk to bartenders and stuff since I brew beer in japanese) Most/All stations have english signs/directions due to corporations, you might be more hard pressed out in bumfuck nowhere. Just point at things and say please or kudasai and you'll survive.
>A trainpass is 30000 yen for 7 days, 45000 for 14 and 60000 for 21 and it'll allow you to use almost(JR east has restrictions, from memory you're only allowed on the Kodama Shinkansen and not the others? The passes come with booklets and the station staff will remind you) any shinkansen/train in the country, can also include buses and ferries depending on the area. For a 7 day to 'break even' a return trip from tokyo to osaka/kyoto will suffice
>If you're staying at a regular hotel/ryokan its easier to state that, immigration tend to pipe up if you say you're staying in an airbnb as its a legal grey area but there aren't any repercussions i've experienced because of it, all of my experiences in airbnb have been pleasant though.
>without a duration of stay this figure is useless, if its a month you're overestimating way too much, I can do less than $500 for a week with accommodation pretty comfortably.
>A bunch of people offer data sims that give you a month's data for about 3000 yen, B Mobile is one of these companies, you can buy these sims at Yodobashi Camera stores in Japan.
>Ok?
feel free to ask more, or relocate to the general if you want.

I went to Kamakura last trip and really enjoyed it, otherwise if you spend a decent amount of time in Kyoto and do a day trip to Nara you'll be pretty sick of history by the end of that unless you're a fanatic.
Just fyi I'm going in may as well. Bought a roundtrip ticket from united airlines for $480. Should buy that ticket asap because they usually go for 700+
I will be flying in and out of Rome for three weeks next month, wanted to go to the Alps (not necessarily to ski I'm guessing I'll miss the snow, just to look around mainly), thinking Bolzano. Thought I might go to Bologna for a few days on the way as well, as I want to hang with uni students etc.
Are these good places? Anywhere else? Was thinking Assisi, but I won't have a car and the area seems remote. Maybe Naples as well, or Verona. Somewhere that isn't full of American tourists and is accessible with public transport is what I'm after.
Kek pic unintentionally unrelated.
>>1210003
pretty much any place in central Italy, Toscana Umbria and Marche, is fine to visit and full of little towns to visit.
If you want to go to the Alps, keep in mind this is high season for skying so hotels will expensive
Any big city in Italy is fine to visit and have something to do and see on it, so you just have to pick a place near where you want to go and you should be fine
>>1210003
>Bolzano
It's called Bozen.
My girlfriend and i would visit S-E China (especially Yunnan but maybe also Guangxi & Guizhou).
We are from Belgium and need a passport, a visa and proof of hotel reservations.
Is it possible to bypass this latter rule ?
False letter ? Other way ?
Go to Hong Kong and get a visa there.
They do all the paper work for you and take probably 2-3 days (could take longer depending on their workload, but don't think it take more than a week).
You can probably find travel agencies in the airport that do this kind of service for you.
While you wait, take a trip to Macau and waste some money there too.
>>1209795
Hi, thank you for your advice but we'll probably don't have time to wait one week in Hong Kong. And we really don't want to go through Macau...
>>1209798
You don't need to go through Macau.
It's through Hong Kong. And it's, at worst, an extra week in a nice place (though I'd guess it won't take that much, unless you arrive on a Friday).
As for your original question, you can probably just make the hotel reservation, print a proof and cancel. Not sure if the guys in the visa department bother to check if every reservation is valid.
Which is the general better city to reside in and why?
LA, of course. How is this even a question?
>>1208620
>hey /trv/ what's better, shit or shite?
>>1208730
Second LA. A bit cheaper, easier to own a car in (and thus escape from), warmer, friendlier (just barely), and in my experience better food.
What up /trv/?
Planning on taking a trip to the Balkans with a mate or two during March
Can anyone give me any tips on what it's like to travel through these countries? Do's and don'ts, what to see and what not to see or whatever... We're sorta inexperienced travellers but it should be ok I think
General plan at the moment is:
Bucharest - Sofia - Nis - Pristina - Podgorica - Tirana - Skopje - Sofia - Istanbul - Thessaloniki - Larissa - Athens
Also, Balkans general, I guess.
Bumping for interest. I plan seeing all of them in the summer. Is there any countries to stay away from?
>>1205189
Not countries, the only places to really stay away from are the old minefileds in bosnia and croatia and maybe some shady parts of Kosovo, but I guess you'd need to try your hardest to wander into one of those.
Atleast put Mostar in there somewhere
Is there a more overrated city?
>>1195480
Los Angeles
But it isn't overrated
>>1195487
Yes it is
What advice would you give to someone who's traveling by themself internationally for the first time?
Age/sex/nationality and where are you going exactly?
>>1210747
22yo male from Mexico. I'm going 7 months to Japan in an exchange student program. Never been overseas.
>>1210749
Ok well, Japan is very safe so that's good.
When you land and leave the airport, it will get real. You will have a cultural shock like "What the FUCK am I doing here?!" It's only temporary though, it happens when you leave your comfort zone and enter the unknown
I will be in Plymouth, England after 2 months because of school. Any interesting places to visit there? Im from Bulgaria so it will be apriciated if you tell me what I should and shouldnt do in England.
>>1210343
How much freedom to travel around do you have mate?
>>1210343
Blackfriars Distillery
>>1210527
I guess I can do whatever I want after I do my daily work but I cant be outside after 11pm
Do you guys have any social Media Accounts exclusively for traveling? Like Instagram, Facebook, a Blog or similar stuff.
If yes, how many followers do you have and has it been helpful in any ways or do you just use it so Friends and Family can keep up with you?
>>1209822
No, social media is for narcissists, women and queers
>>1209934
I know that /trv is a bit different but if 4chan isn't full of narcissists and queers i dont know anymore
I post my traveling stuff on my normal fb. I don't post much else on it so it's almost like my travel blog.
How do you find cheap ways to stay in the Alps?
I want to go skiing for a month+ with 2 friends but this late in the season it seems pretty hard to find a place to stay. I know I'm definitely not looking in the right places, though.
Where can I find some cheap accommodation? Is it possible to find this late in the season? We are willing to share with others if that is needed.
Does nobody here know how to find it?
search in german and on austrian sites...
that's all i have, sorry.
oh and also just walk up to zimmer frei places and haggle.
Search for Vogel, Slovenia. Next to Bohinj and Bled.
