Namaste, lets have a Real Travelers general going?
Post about the exotic locations you've been to, doing the most cultural things
Stayed overnight with local peasant families in rural China who refused to let me pay on 5 or so occasions while on my motorbike trip last year. Drank spirits and ate fruit with the men while not really being able to communicate, though they all made sure they got a picture with me for their version of fb. Always sounds a lot more impressive and RealTraveller™ when I say it out loud than how it felt at the time †bh.
Haven't seen one of these in a while, let's get going.

Sukhumvit, Bangkok
>Adelaide, Australia
>business travel
>2 to 4 weeks
>March-April
wat do?
I'm likely staying in a hotel near central business district and have weekends off.
I like culture, music, beer and nature but have limited time to visit places away from Adelaide and I know the distances in Australia are massive.
The best wines in the country come from around Adelaide. And there's lots of Germans.

All they have is serial killers, wine and churches. Not even good wine. Prepare yourself for a shit time, and tell whoever from your work they can get fucked every single morning.
Me and my family are going to travel to Brisbane and Gold Coast for about a week. This probably will be our last family trip because I should find a job soon and my siblings will also be busy
Anything to recommend over there? I was told I should do outdoors activities like going to the beach and etc
Going to spend 4 days in Berlin. What cool things are there to do there?
>>1214414
Dying in a terrorist attack is breddy gool i guess
>>1214414
>What cool things are there to do there?
What sort of things strike you as cool?
>>1214414
I just spent a weekend here for a bachelors party, only really seen the pubs and clubs and got so messed up I cant remember most of it.
That said I just booked up to go back for 7 days in June.
Bring a jacket though, it's cold as fuck just now
Hey /trv/ going to singapore for about a week for my mates 21st
What are some cool things to see (I've only been to japan) and what is the nightlife like?
>>1213886
It's quite a tame city desu. A bit too sanitised for my liking, and very expensive. I dunno about the nightlife.
But the the food's amazing. There's a diaspora community for pretty much every people in South/South East Asia, which is kinda cool. The city itself looks good.
Jurong Bird Park is definitely worth checking out even if it doesn't sound like your thing.

I stayed in the middle of Geylang for a few nights. During the day there was nothing special, cleaner than any Western city.
During the night I did avoid one guy while walking, he was really out of it. I tried to guess what it was, it wasn't alcohol or hash for sure, he was really wrecked, to a point I've only seen in movies before (and I have seen heroinists before, apparently not the most destroyed ones).
Also people selling some sort of pills openly on the corners, also don't know what it was, could have been nust Viagra.
Anyway, the food was the best and the cheapest in town by far. Greatest Indian and Chinese food I had in Singapore.
The hotel obviously had hourly prices, but it was really clean, comfy, new furniture, etc.
Something I had to laugh at how there was no security cameras on or near that street we stayed at. It was funny considering how big they are on CCTV everywhere else in Singapore.
Anyway, I would def recommend the area to any other cheap ass backpacker if they also happen to find themselves in Singapore for whatever reason.
The only annoying thing was how every Uber driver had this scared expression while picking us up... 'Oh, you know, this street is very...' Dodgy, eh? 'Very dangerous, especially for tourists.'
I tried to explain them about safety stats from our Eastern Euro hometown, but it obvioisly didn't go through.
Hey guys. Looking for some advice on figuring out what the hell to do with my life. I'm 26 and I graduated almost two years ago from college and got my mate's license for commercial shipping. Unfortunately the shipping industry on the American side is in the toilet and jobs are really scarce. I need to figure out something to do long term, but in the meantime it would be nice (at least in my head) to go to another country to live. Seems like teaching is one of the better/easier ways to do that. So what TEFL programs would everyone recommend? I'm open to different countries, but I'm leaning toward Thailand. Maybe I could even work weekends on a boat there. Anyway, thanks for reading and any help you can offer.
>>1213690
I taught in Thailand for a couple of years, some time ago now, and had a great experience. It matters little which TEFL cert you get, assuming it's not from one of the little fly-by-night schools in Thailand (my favorite of which is on Ko Samui). But it's not that easy to get a legal job (one that will provide a work permit and sponsor you for the appropriate visa) without a BA, so I hope when you say you just graduated you don't mean with an Associate's degree. Doesn't mean you can't get a job, but it does increase your chances of not working legally, which is always at least a little risky.
Easiest place left to work without a bachelor's degree in Southeast Asia remains Cambodia.
>>1213690
Don't waste your money on TEFL certification (unless it gives a worthwhile bonus)!
And you should probably not go to Thailand, either, unless you have a big interest in living there.
I would definitely suggest you go to either South Korea or Japan...perhaps China, if those are not suitable to your wishes.
You would earn/save more money in Korea/Japan, and if you really want to go to Thailand or anywhere else in Asia, you would have more savings for traveling around.
The only requirements in Japan and South Korea are native speaker status and a 4 year degree in any subject.
As long as you are a native speaker with a college degree, you are qualified to teach English.
You should shrug off any employer that wants a TEFL certification or anything else.
MOREOVER, if you are from a country that allows a working holiday visa with Japan, just go there using that visa and you'll have a wider range of options.
I'm sure this won't apply to you OP, but I'll just say it in case any other people are reading this thread.
Many foreign countries that are hiring English teachers generally only want native speakers. If you speak English as a secondary language, they don't want you. It doesn't matter how fluent you are, they don't want you. Even if you speak better English than native speakers, they still don't want you.
>speak fluent Spanish
>want to visit the Dominican Republic with my gf and 2 other friends
>got this idea of buying a car, and travelling around the country
>can find next to nothing info about the DR outside of resorts
the DR seems like the most underdeveloped country as far as Real Travelling (TM) is concerned. Plenty of info on Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, maybe a couple other smaller resort areas, but next to nothing as far as travelling around. Has anyone here done the DR off the beaten path?
I also have a friend who was born and raised in the DR but since he has no family/friends down there, all the info he could give me was the usual (ie don't flash money duh) and not much about the country itself.
I'm dominican AMA.
From what I saw, you would be taking a relatively big risk driving around the DR. Roads are shit, directions are nonexistent and drivers are crazy.

Yeah, seems like baseball players keep getting killed down there for that reason
Hey /trv/, what are the best non-touristy cities in Europe? Basically looking for places that are relatively quiet during the day, but that are close to good nightlife as well. Also would prefer to avoid Ukraine, and anything in the Balkans that wasn't park of Yugoslavia. Thanks!
I wouldn't call it non-touristy, but good night life requires it to be this type of city.
This is what I'd recommend
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blagoevgrad
This fits all your criteria, but it's really not for non-locals, not because of anything else but really it's very niche.
Uppsala in Sweden
I've always loved visiting Ohrid in Macedonia.
How autistic is it from me to plan my first trip alone with an excel-table ?
Does anyone else do this ?
I don't want to do anything wrong
>>1213221
German/10.
Very very high on the autism scale.
>>1213221
I did the same thing. Ended up not following it because it was difficult to move around and talk to foreign people, but listing all plausible interests and notes and connections regarding them is VERY helpful and useful thing to do.
You end up forgetting a lot of stuff while on the road and pre-flights, so you should always have a nice and detailed itinerary.
With that being said, don't limit your options and opportunities to be spontaneous. This includes:
Don't pre-book months in advance stuff like hotels, tickets, etc.
Non German here, if it matters.
>>1213221
Whatever gets you hyped, anon. Just don't expect to actually follow that schedule.
what was it like living in new york at the time of 9/11?
what changes did you see to your life?
was it harder to score with chicks?
were all live programmes recorded there and theatre cancelled? for how long?
how do people adresse it now? is it a taboo subject?
>>1212422
>Be in 4th grade
>Go to school
>Go to lunch, then no outdoor recess
>"Why can't we go outside?"
>"It's too hot outside."
>Middle of September
>By 12pm half of class gets picked up by parents
>Absolutely no idea what's going on
Upstate NY, not in the city
>>1212422
>was it harder to score with chicks?
Hell no, bro. I would just walk up to sluts wearing a FDNY shirt or hat and say I was a first responder. Instant panty dropper.
Shit was so cash.
>>1212422
Giuliani and others just said to press on. The city was together. Flags everywhere.Downtown Manhattan was a mess. Cops and firemen died later due to breathing dust around the site. Had to twist Congress' arm to fund treatment.
What are your experiences eating out alone while traveling?
I'm not really afraid of being judged, per se, but I still feel weird as fuck being served by someone else and in a room full of other people having a good time while I'm there alone.
Most of my travels are solo so this is the only way I can enjoy the local cuisine at times.
>>1212064
I never travel alone, however I love going out eating by myself. I am normally either with my wife or my friends so I thoroughly enjoy a nice meal by myself. I normally just sit on my phone and browse dank memes on 4chan.
>>1212065
Do you recommend I do this at home before trying it abroad?
>>1212068
I guess that would be a way, while you will be traveling all of the other people will be going about their daily, boring life. I dont think anyone would give a fuck at a dude eating alone. At least I know I wouldent.
I have 0 /travel/-ing experience, but i decided to un-fuck my life and visit spain alone. So i need advice.
I'd like to visit Spain and Portugal for two weeks in early april. I'm a student so i'm low budget. Planning to sleep in youth hostels and traveling by bus.
My questions are:
- How can i spontaniously book bus-journeys while i have no laptop with me ?
- Where can i put my back-pack when visiting a city or doing some activity like biking ?
- How good idea is it too rent a bike for a couple days in andalusia for a few days ? Can i also rent a helmet if it's obligatory to wear one ?
- Are there chances i'll find other young people to hang out with even tho i'm a little autistic ?
Pic related is approximately the journey i plan. Planning to focus of southern spain because of the weather during april and the al-hambra. I'd also like to see Barcelona and Lisbon tho.
>>1211642
O shit i realised i marked Tarragona instead of Barcelona as my first stay.
I meant to arrive in Barcelona and then move South to Andalusia
>>1211642
Is this a meme post, given that image?
>>1211653
Thought i'd use a historical map.
The questions are serious is
Always wanted to solo travel. I'm 21, 6'3 blond/blue eyed and attractive, lean muscle, etc. Have a qt asian girlfriend of 3 years and she is great. Neither of us have ever been club/bar people though we party now and again, and she'd love to travel with me.
Trying not to make this too relationship oriented but I've always wanted to go travel and pick up foreign girls and see the world for myself, is this too idealistic? Can anybody provide input on whether solo travel is not that great, lonely etc.. I just feel like I might be missing out if I stayed with my gf and travelled with her and did mainly sightseeing instead of bars and talking to other people. On the other hand at the end of the day she's a great gf for me and I wouldn't want to make the wrong decision and regret it.
>>1207963
From my experience, when you travel with a girlfriend, you don't get much out of it except paying twice or three times as much as you would have if you went by yourself
>>1207963
Solo travel is only good in certain places, personally I don't prefer big cities when traveling alone
I think the best way to travel alone is when you go out into nature, or my personal favorite, the Alps, beautiful scenery and it feels great to be alone
now traveling solo when trying to make friends is easy, girls are easier/harder to pick up depending what country you go to
>>1207963
also this, traveling with a girlfriend can be stressful, especially in places like Prague, where eyecandy is everywhere
Which city in America has the most efficient public train system? You know, for people that don't want to waste money on buying a car
>>1207652
Chicago is pretty good.
probably the only thing i like about nyc is the public transport system, but stay away from that place for every other reason...
Atlanta pretty good, so long as you live inside the perimeter.
Anyone travel with red hair/very fair skin? All these posts about going to SEA are interesting, but me and the sun seems like a recipe for disaster.
Want to go to the Andes or Himalayas, but I'm worried how the sun burns brighter at higher elevations.
Other than the english do other people dislike red hair?
>gingers
neck yourself lad
maybe don't make travel plans based on what people think about the colour of your hair
>do other people dislike red hair?
Of course, you will often encounter redhead burnings in your travels.
