Hi lads, I'm planning a trip of around 1 month in Western France to visit my gf's family. I have around $2000, would that be enough? I plan on going to Brittany, east to Rouen, south through Paris to Orléans, then to Bordeaux and back to Brittany.
I'm doing the same thing with double the time and money, buy a train pass, taken night trains to catch up on sleep rather than hostels and you'll be fine
Yes that can be enough. Use Airbnb and avoid hotels as much as possible. Consider an Eurail pass if you plan to visit only cities. Rent a car if you want to see the countryside. Remember that tipping is not usual in France. At most you can leave spare change but it's not expected. The one place where you should not be cheap is food. Tourism in France is as much about beautiful landscapes and architecture as it is about delicious food.
French do not have the commercial smile common in America. Being non-smiling is not them being rude but being neutral. When they do smile they mean it.
As for the time, i suggest June. The weather would be good enough for Northern France and most places would still not yet be infested with foreign tourists.

Yeah, we were thinking about using Airbnb, she has family in Vannes and Caen we can room with, and we can use their car, but I don't know if it'd be cheaper to do that considering how expensive gasoline is there.
We were planning on going in July as well, that's when I would save up enough money from being a wagie for a while. The only touristy places we were planning on visiting were le Mont-Saint-Michel, and of course all the museums in Paris.
Personally, I'm more interested in Normandy and Bordeaux, but she wants me to see Paris for the first time, I don't know what's there besides Africans, Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower though.
If your visa finishes while you're in the airport already, do they care?
I never experienced this myself but I would assume it depends on what stage of leaving you are and which country you are in. Generally speaking I would assume you would be fine though as border agencies would just deport you anyway there would be no reason to delay that process. If they have to meet a quota of deportations or something though then you would probably have a bit of trouble.
>>1219147
well, I mean - as far as I understand, the airport is kind of nobody's land, isn't it? So basically you are not in the country in which your visa is already finished. In this case.
I ask having mostly the overstaying fees in mind
>>1219146
Yes, you can cross the border until 23:59 and stay airside until your departure time, but only if the airport allows staying overnight, not all airports are open 24 hours, including some of the major ones, i.e. Frankfurt/Main airport.

I'll share mine in the next post.
It wasn't a very big deal, but I wish I had brought a spoon & bottle opener with me.
I sort of needed a spoon because I felt like having ice cream a couple of times. Not an ice cream cone or bar, but an actual tub of it (a small one, like Häagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry's).
I also could've used a bottle opener, because I bought beer a couple of times at 7-Eleven.
I thought I would be able to easily buy spoons & bottle openers, but apparently not. I guess the timing just wasn't right. I eventually worked out a solution, but had I brought a spoon & bottle opener with me, I would've had it a lot easier.
>>1218360
>bottle opener
Just open with a key, belt buckle, lighter or a low wall. It´s as quick as an opener.
>>1218361
Yeah, that's the thing. I did use the key method, and it wasn't very quick for me. Maybe I could've used more practice at it, but I felt that an actual opener would've been a lot easier.
But I digress.

*Note about the JR Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.
Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥

There was a ted talk I saw of a guy that did this from eastern Europe somewhere. Travelled for years practically broke just for fun after losing his job. He was about 30. Go for it anon.
Another stunted manchild yearning for permanent adolescence.
Sounds like you need some struggle and a purpose.
>>1215174
Just fucking do it you faggot. Don't post edgy bullshit like that and try to get sympathy. YOU are responsible for your life, if you don't like it, change it.
You'll be dead in 100 years either way, how you spend tomorrow is the only thing you can control.
I want to visit the Caucasus this summer and was wondering if i could enter azerbaijan with a armenian stamp in my passport.
Anyone know more about this issue? Im not planning on going to Nagorno-Karabakh btw
You can, but it's risky because you might be refused at the border, even without the Karabakh visa.
If you plan to visit both, go to Azerbaijan first cause the Armenians are less assholes.
>>1220374
If i get refused, would it be possible to just try it again next day?
Im considering going to Iran afterwards, so in that case going to Armenia first wouldnt be an option
>>1220482
Why? Armenia has a border crossing to Iran too.
Any chance of any contacts

I know nothing, Officer.
yeah man, just call piotr
Hi guys,
I have a 12 hour layover in New York City today. Any ideas for what I could do during that time? I've never been to NYC before but I assume the touristy stuff will take too long. Any suggestions?
Not much especially if you have to come back and deal with security.
Depends on which airport your flying to/from
>>1220209
yeah and there's pretty much nothing close to JFK that's worth doing
How hard is it to get some weed in Dublin? Are there dealers on the street? How's the quality?

DUDE
Hey guys, I've been thinking about moving to Japan for the past couple of years and wanted to hear your opinions. I went to Japan (specifically I stayed in Kuramae) for a month as my high school grad gift and I loved it. I'm currently in the process of getting my Teaching degree and I already have my VISA. I just need some experience then Im all set to go through JET. Before you ask, no Im not some weaboo or whatnot. I genuinely enjoyed the experience I had and would like to stay an extended time. What are your guys thoughts? Have you ever been or had a similar experience?
>>1220131
Need a bachelors as a minimum before you even think of moving over there to live. Good news is, if you're going to be a JET teacher you can have the most dogshit pointless bachelor and still be an English teacher
what kind of visa do you have?
Hey /trv/ when's the best time to book a flight to London from the US?
Also by any change is there a way to get free flights somehow? (Never have flown before and don't have any air miles, I'm just wondering if it's possible) thanks.
At what time do you guys look up cheap flights?
I'm in London right now don't do it it's boring.
Actually I'm just lonely, no one here speaks English my hostel room is full of Russians and Turks or something that keep moaning, kill me
Hi guys!
I'm just getting some ideas on socially acceptable ways to ask Thai hookers if they do anal. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, /trv/!
Here's your reply.
If you're a sexy boy, and not a boy toy, you can just slip it in her pooper. If she resists demand your money back
>>1220052
Slide a finger in first. If she squeals or tightens around it no go. If not slap her bum, pull out while keeping your finger in. This essentially lets her know that you plan to put your pecker where your finger is.
Or you could as if she is a "triple threat"
I am going to Japan in April and I want to go to the studio Ghibli Museum because I heard it was amazing.
However, buying tickets in a cluster fuck. I want to visit May 4th but apparently I can't buy tickets untill 1 month prior.
Does anyone know how to book this shit? I'm from Canada if that helps.
>>1220010
>wait until April 4th
>buy tickets
seriously, do you even reason?
>>1220010
I thought the museum sucked ass desu.
>>1220016
Where do I buy it tho? All the websites seem sketchy.
Sorry for being retarded
Hey /trv/ I don't post on here often but I had a question for you all.
I am a young guy in my early 20s who is sick of living in a small town in buttfuck alberta Canada and wants to move away for a while.
So I guess my question to you all is where's a good place a guy like me should go? I'm looking to move away for minimum 3-6 months I'm not looking for a huge party scene mostly places I can go backpacking/hiking/camping things like that but I am also looking to make friends as I am planning to move there alone.
I was thinking somewhere like Greece where there are lots of volunteer programs that could get me set up with housing and are things I'm generally interested in.
I'm not looking for a vacation, I'm looking for somewhere beautiful I can live for the next year of my life to get me prepared for when I am going to have to go through a messy move when I have to go to Germany as a transfer student in a few years.
Anyways any help or input is much appreciated

Find out which countries will give Maplevanians a WHV and start looking for seasonal /out/ or hospitality work.
I'm pretty sure you guys can go work in New Zealand pretty easy and NZ is top tier /out/ material.
yeah you can get a working holiday visa in NZ, Aus, and the UK, that is if you want to work.
By 'volunteer programs' you mean things like helpX and wwoof? Good idea, you'll have a great time.
You don't provide many details about what you're looking for. Every country in Europe has good hiking and possibility to make friends.
If I were to do this I'd go to Morocco where I could learn three languages at once and chill with backpackers while being that cool expat guy.
>>1220026
I am looking to work yes so thats very helpful. Basically im looking to pick up a new life for my year off school before I start again and get used to living out of my comfort zone somewhere I dont hate living where I can go adventuring and meeting new people that actually have the same interests as me.
Has anyone here visited Bosnia within the last 10 years? Not the surrounding countries. Bosnia in particular. There is pretty limited information available online and it's definitely a place that isn't discussed often in terms of travel. How cheap is the food? Do many people speak English? How much reign do Muslims have, meaning if a foreign woman is there alone and wears something that is somewhat revealing, will she get caught up in anything? Pls share any info you have.
>>1219986
I went to Bosnia in 2014.
Food is cheap, as is budget accommodation. I can't remember what prices at restaurants were, but you can get a relatively solid meal for between $3 and $10, depending on your tastes.
Not many people speak English, but there are enough who do that you'll be able to make conversation here and there. I hitchhiked from the border with Croatia, near Žaponja, and was picked up by a guy who was fluent within three minutes.
The whole country is pretty divided in regards to religious affiliation. The eastern parts of Bosnia, closer to Serbia, are almost exclusively Christian. In fact, the consequences of the war on people as well as where they live are still very noticeable. There were a lot of amputees and handicapped people in Sarajevo, as well as buildings still riddled with bullet holes.
Can't remember much about the women, but I never felt like I was in a conservative Muslim country. Plenty of people drink. However, I'd still exercise some caution if you're traveling alone. The guy who gave me a ride was telling me about some female tourists from Northern Europe who were kidnapped, held hostage, and repeatedly raped before being murdered. Can't remember when that allegedly took place or where, though. Probably won't affect you, but there are still active minefields scattered here and there, although most are denoted by red signs bearing a skull and crossbones.
Was a very interesting country, on the whole. I had planned to go there, as I was hitchhiking to Istanbul prior to jetting off to India. The only reason I did is because a Croatian family offered to let me stay with them for a couple nights, and they lived within walking distance of the border.
Still, Bosnia left an impact on me. Even the receptionist at my hostel told me a lot about her childhood memories of the war (I was the only guest at the hostel, so we wound up talking a lot).
Also, is Eftpos accepted in some/most places or should cash be carried?
Went this summer for a week, Mostar and Sarajevo. I loved Bosnia, i did not expect anything from the country and maybe thats why i liked it so much.
It's fucking beautiful, the road between Mostar and Sarajevo was so scenic i had to backtrack and go once again. The Herzegovina region is beautiful but not so colourful and the river Neretva that runs along the road gets wider and wider and at one point it opens up and looks like a big turquiose lake with green mountains in the backdrop surrounding the whole landscape.
It was effing jaw dropping.
It's a very interesting country with rich history and you can feel how recent the events were. Still many bullet holes in buildings and bombed out buildings in both Mostar and Sarajevo.
You will also realise how no one has forgot about what happened 20 years ago and its always present. Also the peace seemed very delicate to me.
Anyway its very cheap, you can stay at hostels in mostar for less than $5 a night and in Sarajevo for less than $10 a night. You can have a pizza in Sarajevo for $2 or Cevapi for $4. It's secular for a muslim country and people still drink even though i never saw drunk people in the streets or clubs, its more on the low key i think.
Also, the women are beautiful and Sarajevo had the highest concentration of MILFs in any city ive ever been to.
