I'm mostly free just on the weekends, but looking for religious sites and gatherings. After I went to the Piran's Day procession at his old oratory, I really got hooked on this.

Preferably not quiet ruins or churches by themselves, but shrines that people added to them, something that gives the place character, or some sort of gathering. Hope this makes sense? Sort of like the Hill of Crosses, or that place in Bosnia where people regularly report seeing Mary.

I'm also open to other religions. Planning on going to a clootie well in Scotland sooner or later.

Nope, I mostly think it's interesting for the culture and history. I want to say I'm spiritual and not religious but that's the corniest teenage girl in India praying to crystals bullshit explanation out there.

el camino santiago is probably the most famous in europe, infact it's the only one i can think of.
you aint doing it in a weekend though, unless you cheat and just take public transport right to the shrine.

Sup friends. I have a terrible problem.
I'm traveling to vegas today at 5pm (current time11:06) but the car that I rented gave me a big problem. I need 4.5k to make a deposit for the car security.
I do not have 4.5k thats for sure.
I already payed the hotel for 3 nights and there are 3 people waiting me to get a car.
They dont have more money to pay for a bus or etc.
Any good ideas?:/
I'm really fucked

Cancel your car
Use the hotel bus for transfer or use an uber

>I already payed the hotel for 3 nights and there are 3 people waiting me to get a car.

Why the fuck do you need a car in vegas?

>They dont have more money to pay for a bus or etc.

Nigga how the fuck do you not have 5 dollars
>>
I've never needed a big cash deposit when I rent a car. How old are you? Did you use a credit card? How can you guys afford a rental car, but not a bus?

If it gets worse, you can probably cancel 2/3 of your nights and get refunded. I've never prepaid for hotel stays in the states.
>>
I'm in San Diego. That's the deal :/
And its 4500 dollars
Or paying 400 cash to the security and 1500 deposit.

Yes, who cares?
>>

Sure, it won't be any more cramped or anything than the other airlines in economy, it'll just be without the free food/blanket which I can live without if the price is good enough. This has become possible because the new Boeing 737 MAX is so fuel efficient that budget flights are finally viable, not because they've found some new way to cut costs and make it considerably more horrible than current transatlantic flights.

I want to experience Texas like in the movies.
Like the western movies. Rodeo, cowboys, outlaws, ranches and shit.

I plan to go to USA this year, and will be in Texas 5, 6 days.
What is some must see for a true Texan experience?
I mean nature, and just the experience in general. I presume avoiding the big cities? Where should I go?

Also what time of the year would be best to visit Texas, weather-wise (no rain season, but not bloody hot either)

Come up to Donegal would love to meet an anon from /trv/

Hi /trv/,

American here (california) planning a trip to Europe for a family reunion in July.

The plan is to start in edinburgh, then go to amsterdam, berlin, prague, and finish in london.

what shouldn't I miss? I'm a beer brewer so I'm planning on hitting as many breweries as possible. Also interested in food, history, hikes.
Anyone know good places to find gueuze?

I probably won't have the opportunity to do this again for quite a while and really want to make it count. I have 2-3 days in each location.

pic sort of related, a southern california delicacy.

Thanks!

I'm sure many of you have lived as expatriates in many cities in many countries, so what is the most livable city in your eyes?

And as a follow-up question, what's the most livable city if you're on a budget?

There are many rankings for this out there, often with Melbourne or Vienna at the top, but people from Melbourne I've spoken to told me they find it pretty meh - might just be a grass is always greener thing though of course

I'm looking to permanently relocate, so might as well go somewhere nice

Best for me would be if English or German is the primary spoken language, and nice climate is important to me too (not too much rain and snow)
Friendly people are a plus, so share personal experiences

IMO places where English or German are primary languages tend to be pretty boring and expensive. With the possible exception of Cape Town, but then safety is a pain in the ass there.

Top places I'd actually want to live:

1. Taipei, Taiwan: Friendliest people out of any 1st world big city in the world, bar none. Gorgeous petite girls everywhere. People are generally fairly educated and usually speak at least very basic english, so it's not hard to get around, and Uber works too. Amazing food, super clean, lots of nature everywhere.

2. Medellin/Periera, Colombia: Perfect weather every day of the year, the temperature doesn't really fluctuate much. Women are possibly the most beautiful in the world, apart from perhaps parts of Brazil or Eastern Europe. No one speaks english but with a few months of dedicated study you can be very proficient in Spanish, and it won't hinder you much after a month of study.

Isn't Medellin pretty dangerous?

Any suggestions in the states? I have arrest warrants so I can't go overseas :(

I'm dropping my grandma off at LAX in June, and it got me thinking about going around the US on a quick trip to see some of the bigger cities.

I've only left California a handful of times, so I kind of want to get a taste of other states.

The cities I picked I will only be in for about 36 hours at a time. I think my goal is just to take a few pictures, eat a couple meals, or see some landmarks or museums. Not looking for the complete experience in any city.

I chose Austin to deflect jetlag slightly. Plus I've wanted to see Texas most of my life since it's somewhat the opposite of California (though I believe Austin is the super liberal city, correct?). Miami is so that I can see Miami beach before it gets washed out from erosion. DC I've been to once, so I mostly want to walk around the National Mall for a day.

I've never been to NYC, but my goal is to do some of the slightly touristy things, like go to the top of 1 WTC, walk through MoMA, or get mugged in an alley.

Seattle I mostly want to go to in order to eat some food and walk around Pike's Place and Queen Anne. Maybe do the Space Needle and the Museum of Pop Culture. Seattle has a direct flight to my hometown so that'd be a convenient end.

Has anyone ever taken a trip like this? Any destinations I should cut out? Austin would probably be first on my list, as there doesn't seem to be a lot to do other than hang out downtown. Seattle would probably be next.

Would it be reasonable to assume I could do this all for about $2500? Flight is about $900 of that. I expect to stay at airbnbs or shitty hotels.

>>1224895
You don't need to worry about jet lag if the maximum time difference is three hours, but you should check to see if the youth hostels have limitations on Americans staying in them, some are just for foreigners. The museums in DC are really top class. Skip Austin or Seattle and spend an extra day in DC or NYC if you're interested in culture and history.
>>
>>1224896

Wow, hostels are a steal! Most that I'm seeing are really quite nice, and something like $30 a night. That might really beat a shitty hotel room, I appreciate the suggestion.
>>
>>1224895
Cut out Austin. It will be unbearably hot during that time of year. 100 degrees F and 100% humidity every single day, it's awful. And there's nothing for a tourist to do in the summer, you'll just sit inside in the air conditioning all day in reality.

I'd say cut out Seattle too, though I lived there for many years and the climate might be great then. Seattle's tourist crap is pretty boring. I don't know what you're talking about doing in Queen Anne, it's just a hill. Pike's place is just an overpriced tourist market where they throw some fish around. The real amazing part of Seattle is out in the mountains and the lakes, but you will need at least a few days and some extra energy for that.

So I'd say skip Austin and Seattle, and then make it NYC -> DC -> Miami, so that you get the relaxing place at the end. Make a connecting flight via Seattle if you want, but don't waste time on such a short trip there.

I've been traveling south from Canada for 6 months now. Got to Nicaragua last week and suddenly there are +10x as many tourists as anywhere until now (currently in Grenada), and everything is 2x the price. I had high hopes for Nicaragua, but I'm starting to really despair here (and have lost any hope for Costa Rica and Panama).

Is there anywhere worth seeing in Nicaragua that isn't crawling in backpackers and dollar priced?

What the fuck? I thought Nicaragua would be like El Salvador, Honduras and parts of Guatemala: cheap and no foreigners. Not that I've ever been to any of these countries.
>>
>>1224880

He's a retard.

Grenada and San Juan del Sur are the two most touristic cities in all of Nicaragua. Take a motorbike ten minutes outside of either city and the tourists will all but disappear.

I rented a motorcycle in León and rode to Cerro Negro to climb the volcano. Once I got outside of the central market area, I didn't see a single gringo until I got to the park entrance.

So far as Managua goes, it's the capital and largest city in the country. Hardly any tourists go there because it has a reputation for being relatively rough.

It's sort of like going to Paris and complaining about all the tourists.

Hey /trv/. My best friend and I are planning to go on a roadtrip from Portland to San Francisco and then Los Angeles. Neither of us have been outside of Oregon before, so what are some things worth seeing/doing in both cities (or really, California in general)? Hey /trv/. Im about to finish school in 2-3 months and as Im very undecided about what I want to study I thought it might be a good idea to do what everyone does that has no clue what to do with all this freedom and go to do Work and Travel.

The classic countries to do so would ofc be New Zealand, Australia, Canada etc. but many other are possible too. So now I have kinda figuered out two options:

JAPAN - I love the japanese culture, the landscaped really everything Ive seen so far about this country is very nice but, its not a classic Work and Travel destination. Its possible and many people have done it but there are mayor problems mainly concerning the language. I dont speak Japanese and it seems that finding a job there is pretty hard even when youre pretty ok at speaking japanese. Its not impossible but very hard.

NEW ZEALAND - Its a bit of a clichee but I can imagine myself going to New Zealand which due its popularity for Work and Travel is very good organised when it comes to students travelling through the country working on farms etc. Plus they speak English, the programs offered by organisations are better and cheaper and you need two long-haul flights to get there (I love flying).

So New Zealand is cheaper to me but Japan is just my love-destination. Should I just jump into Japan and see what happens or should I go safe with NZ and when Im older and had time to maybe study Japanese at home etc. go to Japan with more money and maybe even without the necessity to work there.

Research Universities that have exchange programs in Japan. Focus your major on in demand Asia/Japan fields, or industries that export well. Like international business, supplemented with Japanese/Asian studies, or things like marketing, supply chain management, distribution and logistics, project management, construction management, also also with an Asian focus if possible. Whether language or studies. When you are in Japan on exchange focus on networking

Japan is a very crazy country, I would recommend a work away so you can see that it's an okay country for someone who is not Japanese

I am going hitchhiking for charity through Europe next month via this (rough) route. I will have a load of documents on me 'proving' I'm doing this for charity, if proving is the right word to use, as well as a booklet with loads of phrases translated into all official languages of the EU. I myself can speak English, German, Dutch and Russian.

Tips for these countries as well as tips on blagging free trains/ferries?

Some friends of mine got Thomas Cook to give them one-way tickets from Edinburgh to Salzburg when they did this. It's a long shot, but if you find yourself near an airport...

I've never hitched the Chunnel, but the ferry at Dover is straightforward enough, though wait times tend to be long. It's just important to let drivers know that they don't have to pay extra to pick you up. My sign usually says something like "Room for one more? No extra cost!"
