I would like to go to Lebanon in september.

I'm thinking of visiting the following places: Beirut, Baalbek, Byblos, Sidon, Tyre, Anjar, Zahle. Also Nabatiyeh for Ashura.

Any thoughts or tips? Safety precautions? How to get laid? How to meet Nasrallah?

>How to meet Nasrallah?

Congrats, you got your name in the no-fly list.
>>
Lebanon is a pretty safe place, just make sure that people don't take advantage of you being a foreigner, If I were you I'd start at Beirut, maybe go clubbing and meeting people, from there get someone to show you around the rest of Lebanon as there's so much shit to see and a lot of it isn't the kind of stuff you can find on a map. As for getting laid..don't get your hopes up
>>

Its not that safe really, lots of armed conflicts in the past few years and still a fair bit of sectarian violence and hate around.

That being said, for a place that has had a few issues in the recent past, it still manages to attract lots of tourists and everyone I know that has been there has had a pretty good time really.

Chances are that you wont wander into any of the bad parts anyway (except maybe Tripoli, but I heard its much better now).

Thailand thread. Anyway I'm going to Pattaya this weekend and looking around on google streetview has me so pumped, haven't been there since my navy days. I have a question about motorbikes there, can you rent them, can you ride them on any road even though you don't have a thai drivers license?

>don't have a thai drivers license?

Pattaya is a funny place. You can rent them but they take your passport and IIRC it was ~800baht a day
>>
>>1224999
You got ripped. I'm not sure about pattaya since I never went. But Chiang mai, Koh Samui and Kph Phangan we got scooter rentals for like 200 baht a day and didn't have to hand over our passports.

Pattaya may just be more expensive because of all the sex pest white people.
>>
>>1224970
Just get an international drivers permit from AAA if you're still in the US. They're like 20usd and you just need a few minutes.

Japan: Weird as fuck...literal definition of weird, off-putting, creepy and just all around degenerate.

England: Totally miserable weather, miserable people, chavs.

France: Pretentious dickheads, Paris is a literal shithole outside of the Eiffel tower

The entire section of central Europe.:Pretty much the twilight zone...otherwise pretty nice...Definitely underrated.

Australia: I liked it...Australia didn't like me though.

New Zealand: I liked it....Didn't stay long.

Did you actually travel to any of those places or did you make everything up?
>>
Err, weird opinions m8. I agree that England has a lot of chavs, and your opinion on the weather could be valid... but it's pretty beautiful in the countryside and villages. As for Paris, I'd say the shithole is centered around the eiffel tower, so I dunno what you found so great about that place. Japan was also fucking gorgeous, and wonderfully efficient, pretty much the opposite of degenerate. If you stayed in a capsule hotel in akihabara, then maybe I understand your perspective. Otherwise, you must have had shit trips if you actually have been to all these places.

Sure OP I'll humor you:

Note: I am American

Chile: Santiago is well developed and a nice city with influence from many different places. Some places are more grimy than others, I spent more time in Concepcion. My Spanish is conversational so I could get around but not really have conversations. One thing you can't miss as a foreigner is the stray dogs, people drive manual cars, I've driven in Chile for a 9 months or so and it's alright but it takes some getting used to. I did not really like Chilean food. I feel like they put too much sauce or cream cheese on everything. The foods I did like were the seafood and I ate at a place with decent sopaipillas (kind of like a salty-sweet kind of bread). They eat too much ice cream there during the summer haha.

Canada: Been to Windsor and Toronto. In both places they have nice people. All kinds of people from different cultures living in both cities, Toronto I just visited for a day and Windsor I've been there plenty of times though I am not even sure how much Windsor counts as Canada haha. I liked the public transit in Toronto. It's pretty much America except with Tim Hortons and nicer people, they also tend to dress nicer, then again I'm Californian so I am used to wearing a sleeveless shirt and shorts most of the year.

China: I spent most time in Shenzen and drank with some local friends of a friend's cousin. The Chinese drink a lot hahaha. They are very reserved if you are a stranger, you hardly hear conversations on the subway among Chinese or on the streets. Beggars seem to target foreigners in Shenzen. Food is cheap as hell: $2.50 for a nice plate but it's also kind of shady (restaurant conditions, in some restaurants they give you hot water to sterilize your own utensils and such). My favorites were a basic rice/duck/sausage plate. I ate some street food and stinky tofu (actually pretty good) but I would recommend maybe just trying it for a day and then never eating it again, stick to nicer places maybe.

I'm a guy, but I hitchiked through whole eu a couple of times. Expect no big problems with anything (besides horny idiots, but I guess this goes without saying). Like the other anon said, couchsurfing/trustroots will raise the comfort to something between a hostel and a hotel.

I may even host you/show you around if you come to poland

How would I go about travelling to Tokyo from Vienna? Cheapest possible flight, and to stay for a couple of days? The only requirement would be a hotel room in big ass skyscrapper at one of the highest floor to soak in and enjoy the skyline during the night. This is actually why Id even wanna go there.

Traveling alone for approximately 3~4 weeks.

Once the summer starts I’ll have about 3~4 weeks during the month of May to spend abroad. I’m 20 and this will be my first time outside of the United States, and even within the U.S. I have only a few times left the Midwest for the East coast.

I know I don’t have any experience but I still would like to backpack in the areas of Myanmar, Thailand, and Indonesia if possible. I am looking at a maximum budget of approximately $6,000 w/ flights.

I am not trying to be a tourist, I want to experience the real culture of the city and plan on staying in hostels/AirBnB. My goal is to avoid the sterile tourist traps and learn from the locals in that area, though I don’t really know how I should go about doing what I just described.

I would certainly visit a few bars and go clubbing, as I can’t do that in the U.S.

By the way: Myanmar for the people, the temples, and the supposed "unspoiled" nature of the area. Thailand for scenery, people, food, clubs. Cambodia for Killing Fields & Angkor Wat. Indonesia for diving and islands (which I've never seen before).

Do you have any advice on how I should go about doing what I have described?

>Is a guide highly recommended? I don’t want to get scammed but they’d know what I should see/do right?
>Do I stick to the cities? Are rural areas actually more interesting?
>Is being in a hostel really that good of a way to meet people?
>Are there risks of danger as a white American?
>Will people in Myanmar and Thailand speak English?

>Is going to Europe a better idea as a first-timer? I’m sure I’d love it but I really want to experience a completely different culture. Kind of jump in headfirst you know?

TLDR: 20 year old going abroad for 3~4 weeks. Unsure on how to meet people or how exactly to go about meeting new people and going on adventures. Fan of history, interested in bars, sightseeing, region-specific pastimes, festivals, and women (low priority).

>>
>>1230345
Perhaps it sounded a little pretentious but I'm not trying to stay in a nice isolated hotel or on some resort that prevents me from actually meeting local population.
>>
>>1230345
>Is a guide highly recommended? I don’t want to get scammed but they’d know what I should see/do right?
If you can spare the money then yeah why not, lonely planet has a one guidebook that contains north thailand, cambodia, laos and vietnam IIRC

>Do I stick to the cities? Are rural areas actually more interesting?
From my experience SEA is best appreciated by visiting the countryside and places where minorities live, that being said you can still combine the two and enjoy.

>Is being in a hostel really that good of a way to meet people?
it's good to meet other backpackers yeah, but not the locals, in fact hostels can be very isolating from the surrounding areas sometimes, so if you really want to get in touch with the local culture by virtue of accomodation then i suggest couchsurfing or volunteering programs like workaway, otherwise you'd have to look for a place that isn't online and caters to locals, that way you will meet locals but there would be the language barrier, still, it's fun to try to communicate and use body language, i noticed to SEA people use lots of body language, sometimes you would be able to understand the context of an entire conversation without understanding one single word because of that.

>Are there risks of danger as a white American?
Nope, just being ripped off in the major touristy places

>Will people in Myanmar and Thailand speak English?
I can't say for myanmar since i haven't been there but for thailand lots of them speak english in bangkok and other touristic areas (chang mai, pie, pattaya, phuket etc)

>>Is going to Europe a better idea as a first-timer? I’m sure I’d love it but I really want to experience a completely different culture. Kind of jump in headfirst you know?
Depends on what you like, but since you want to experience something else then SEA, don't worry though, SEA is babby's first backpacking trip, transport is so easy there it's ridiculous, same with things like getting food from food stalls

Kowloon walled city was pretty unreal but unfortunately it is long gone. The Dharavi slums give me a pretty similiar vibe desu if you count south Asia. If you just mean seedy in the sex tourism and drugs pervert sense then Patong is pretty high up there. Angeles city is worse than Patong in that respect. I hear Pattaya is pretty bad too but I have personally never been.

Pattaya is pretty vanilla compared to patpong and silom in general.
Pattaya is geared towards sex perverts but patpong is really dark and menacing at night.

Hey Gents.
I'm a humble burger who recently married a nice britbong.
We wanna move to the Republic of Ireland because UK immigration is impossible right now and it's close to home for her.
Her cousin lived in Cork City with his burger wife and later got residency for her in the UK. He said there's a ton of free to cheap legal help for people seeking to live in the ROI as well as UK. However I'm intimately familiar with Limerick City where I stayed several months. What would you say would be a more opportunistic place for us to settle a year?
And if you have a recommendation any specific area to look for a flat?

Im 27 neet, but with trust fund bux
I want to become a septic tank pumper.

I have a big problem .

traveling with AirChina this weekend from copenhagen to japan.
But their limit on carry on is 5kg, one bag.

My laptop plus charger alone weighs in at around 5kg. Then i need my powerbanks also on the flight.

My question to you is, what is it that they measure. If lets say, i have the powerbanks in my jacket, does that count as carry on weight?

BIG thanks!
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
No they won't care if they're in your jacket.

You could probably get away with it in your carry on because they most airlines don't weigh it unless they look suspiciously large.

I've gotten away with a few kilos overboard on my carry on many times before.

Also, a lot of airlines don't consider a handbag or small backpack carry on - you could bring two bags if you wanted to and probably get away with it quite easily.

At the end of the day, you're only gonna lose some pocket change if they charge you for the extra weight.
>>
Ok, thanks alot!

Not so experienced with flying. Sas is alot more specific, one bag plus laptop bag. 8kg.

But airchina, one bag 5kg. those three kg makes a big difference.

But thanks again, feel alot more calm now :)
>>
>>1229954
Yeah, don't worry :)
Like I said, they will only charge you for the extra weight and I doubt it would be very much.

Do you have check on?

If you want really suicide mission - go to Iraq/Syria/Libiya/Nigeria/Somalia. Or take DPRK visa, steal a portrait of any of Kims and masturbate on it.

I'm going to have a trip across Afghanistan from Herat to Tajikistan border someday in the future, I cannot name it "suicide" but a bit close to something like this.

In Russia the only way to have experience like real low-level crime adventures is to go to Zabaikalskiy kray and join A.U.E. potsoni band lol. Or join any salafi jamaat in north Caucasus but it would be very difficult to look out them.
