Hi guys. I'm planning to go for a vacation in USA in the summer. It's going to be a road trip.

Obviously it's going to be exhausting, but I want to see as much as I can.

Pic related is the plan I've made. I have relative in minneapolis, and houston which is why I have stops there. Are there any cities, or natural attraction near thew route, that is a must watch?

Also what are some precautions to take before going to USA?

Thanks for your help guys :]

I'd recommend going through South Dakota on I-90 rather than North Dakota on I-94. I can't think of a single thing of note in North Dakota and that area of Montana but South Dakota has a bunch of cool and neat things that you can see and do.

Also I must ask, is there anything specific that brings you to Buffalo or is it just general coverage?
>>
I live in California, and near San Francisco for more than 20 years. I have visited Los Angeles many times. I can answer anything you need about these places.

im going through canada so ill visit toronto, and niagra falls, then come through buffalo.
this route isn't a perfect one, it's just a rough thing i put together. e.g. from california to san fran ill be talking route 1, not the one shown on map.

what are some places to look for in south dakota?

When are you going? season changes in Israel can be significant. Like, the difference between be sweaty and comfortable or being sweaty and dying while you wait for a bus. I wuold say israel for history and shit but not in the heat of their summer

I've never been to Australia, but every Aussie I've met has been far nicer than any Israeli I met in Israel. And Israel isn't that great of a country tbqh, the Old Towns of Jerusalem and a few other cities are great, otherwise there's really not that much to see there. It's small though, so you can visit literally the entire country in two weeks, in Australia you'll most likely be confined to a single city and it's neighbouring areas.

I'd probably choose Australia, based on A) Israelis aren't very nice, and B) I've never been to Australia. Don't know what else advice I can give, they aren't very comparable tbqh.

Yes $2k should be enough as long as you're smart with your money.

Two weeks in Los Angeles is waay too long. You can see all the main attractions in LA in four or five days if you rent a car. Definitely drive out to other places in Southern California for the remainder of your trip. There’s lots of beautiful nature in Southern Cali.

Things to see in LA:
The Hollywood strip
Griffith Observatory
Venice Beach and the Venice canals nearby
A theme park if you’re into that? Such as Disneyland or Universal Studios. I’m a huge fan of The Simpsons so it was fun walking through Springfield at Universal Studios. Universal Studios also has an impressive Harry Potter town.
Santa Monica pier
Olvera Street

Pic related. I went to LA in January.

This isn't really a travel question but I don't know where else to ask...

I've been offered a job for Disney in Glendale, CA. Can anyone tell me about living there, or around there, and where I can move to for the best value and easiest commute?

I've heard nightmares about traffic there, and while I've visited LA many a time, it's normally on the weekends, and closer to the beach.

Thanks ahead for any advice.

Glendale isn't horrible it's just a bit boring. Not a lot of nightlife. It's famous for having a bunch of Armenians but there's a lot of Asians there as well. It's really not a bad place, not too far from downtown or Hollywood. How much is your job paying? You might be better off in North Hollywood (noho district- where I'm at), Studio City, or Burbank (also a bit boring). Somewhere North of LA might be a good option as well- Echo Park, Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, Highland Park. That area is quickly gentrifying though some of it might be shitty and cheap and some of it might be too expensive already while still being shitty.
>>
>>1228911

I'll be making somewhere between $75-85k. Not totally sure yet (currently negotiating).

What are those areas like cost-wise? I'd love to save what money I can, but I don't want to be in a shitty area. It's tough for me, since my entire house right now where I live is $1200 a month, and a 1 bedroom seems like it's going to be at least $1500 in CA.
>>
>>1228853
Disney has offices in Glendale.

It's a nice neighborhood. There's fairly decent grocers, although a very er uh, sometimes hostile bro culture among some people. I'd think I could raise a family in Glendale and be happy about it.

Weekends are traffic light. Weekdays are another story. But traffic in that region (as long as you're not commuting to West LA is not bad).

Hello all.
I am planning a trip through the fine nation of Norway in April.
I will land in Bergen and stay with friends for a few days before taking the train to Oslo to stay with family for weekend.
I will then fly up to Kirkenes for a few days staying with more family.
I like the outdoors and plan to pack gear including a bivvy bag to hopefully spend some nights under the stars.
I like culture too. Any suggestions for museums in Bergen/Oslo?
Any foods I should try? Or any other general tips from locals?
Cheers ladies and gents

I'm Norwegian, AMA

>Museums in Oslo
There's a lot of museums in Oslo, the Munch Museum (to Norwegian painter Edvard Munch of "The Scream" fame), the Fram museum (to the Fram ship which Nansen used to sail to the Arctic), the National Gallery and the Viking ship museum to name a few. For specific interests, there's also the Armed Forces museum, Jewish museum, a museum of contemporary art, and the Norwegian Folk Museum. If you buy an Oslo pass (http://www.visitoslo.com/en/activities-and-attractions/oslo-pass/) you get free access to that + loads more, plus free public transport (bus, tram, metro, boat AND train inside Oslo). The price seems high, but knowing prices in Oslo, you'll save a lot if you plan on doing a lot here.

>Other in Oslo
There's the Akershus castle, Royal castle (tours must be booked in advance), the Storting (parliament) and if you're interested the 2011 terrorist attack, the main building of Regjeringskvartalet, which houses an information centre. Walk along Akerselva (10 km of river going through some of the best neighbourhoods of the city, through old industrial areas), take the boat out to Hovedöya ("Main Island") and see old monastery ruins or just relax and escape the city life, or walk on the Opera House roof and enjoy the Barcode buildings, a series of funky residential and office buildings being built on the seafront. North of Oslo you also have miles of nature, though not like in your pic related, mostly woodland and lakes. The neighbourhood of Grünerlökka has plenty of cafes, bars, parks and the like, and is generally a nice area to hang around in. The Grönland neighbourhood is rather "multicultural" if you want to check out/avoid that (it hasn't really got anything for a tourist if you ask me).

What's the best country in the world for hiking?
I'm not asking what countries have the best scenery/wilderness. I'm taking other factors into account.
For example, New Zealand is great because it combines true wilderness with a comprehensive backcountry hut system which anyone can access (for a reasonable price)
Scotland is good because you can camp anywhere legally.
Italy is good because there are so many edible plants growing wild.

Basically, what are the X factors which make a country good for spending time outdoors?

I'd say Norway, but i might be biased because i've lived here my whole life.

Pros: True wilderness, Turistforeningen which has a wide variety of huts around the country accesible for everyone, beautiful scenery. And Allemansretten, which is the right to roam (https://www.visitnorway.com/plan-your-trip/travel-tips-a-z/right-of-access/)
Cons: The weather can change drastically, cold winters. Mosquitoes in summer.
Would also like to add that while southern, western, mid and northern Norway is fantastic, Eastern Norway is way more urbanized, and the nature there might be seen as boring (fields and forests, basically it).

pic related, took it during a hike a couple years back, around and hour drive from Stavanger, and couple hours walking.

The USA, easily.
There is a strong hiking culture, easy to find anything you need, and there are a wide variety of locations and climates you could choose, whatever you're looking for it's hear somewhere.

If not for nature or hiking I wouldn't even bother to visit other states, fortunately we excel at that.

Long story short going to Tokyo for the first time to represent my clothing company at a fashion roadshow

I'm going to be there for 7 days total, and I need to be on my A game every day, even fresh off the plane.

The day you arrive, don't got to bed until midnight.
>>
>>1228253

So on a 2pm flight from LAX don't sleep on the plane at all, and sleep at 12 Tokyo time
>>
>>1228253
Yep, resist to napping even tho you are super tired. DO NOT GO TO BED until it's local bed time. It's hard especially when you travel eastbound but this nap will turn into a 5h hibernating and royally fuck your body clock up.
I used to chew no jet lag when I was traveling a lot but I can't tell if it really worked.
You could also start adjusting to your destination time a few days prior to your trip, if you have the chance. Every day, wake up 1h earlier than the previous day and try to go to bed one hour earlier too. This way, your brain will accept more easily to wake up at 8 local time even tho it's 4 at your origin.

Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:

Does $2000 spending money (not including travel/accommodation) sound reasonable for two weeks alone?

I've never travelled alone before so it's hard to judge. It's basically just for food and basic touristy shit, plus a couple of nights out.

Hey /trv/ fiance and I were thinking about taking our honeymoon to Europe. Here's what we have so far:

>Amsterdam
>Paris/France
>panoramic train tour of Swiss Alps
>Venice/Italy

According to my calculations this trip should cost us about 15 grand. Any tips on saving money on travel/food and where to go/what to do? Also how long should I spend in each place?

my wife and i were very satisfied with an amsterdam-bruges-paris trip we took a couple of years back.

in the first two stops we stayed at crowne plaza hotels - good value. in paris, we stayed at a boutique hotel.

used rail to get between cities.

days spent in each city were 4, 3, and 4

we made museums the focus of the trip.. you may feel differently about what is important
>>
>>1227845

If you're going Amsterdam - Paris - Switzerland - Venice, I'd strongly recommend visiting Florence, while you're in Italy. The city is packed with art, beautiful architecture and local romantic trattorias. Definitely not a place just to pass by. Places to visit: ponte vecchio, galleria degli Uffizzi and galleria dell' Accademia. Florence is a pretty small town, so I guess 1 day (early morning to late evening) will be sufficient. If you get hungry gry Bistecca alla Fiorentina or sandwiches at La Prosciutteria.

On the other hand I believe Paris to be immensely overrated. I get the idea that you jest don't fly to Europe and don't see Paris, but jest don't get your hopes up for a great romantic atmosphere.
>>
>>1227845
paris is significantly less romantic than many other places in france

Songkran/Speak Easy/Prescription Drug Thread!

I was following a Songkran thread here a few weeks ago but it disappeared, figured I would resurrect now that we are closer to the festival.

I would love to hear some experiences about various locations for Songkran. I will be in Thailand for the entire festival, but my location is completely undecided. I know Bangkok and Chiang Mai are the two largest locations, but I'm curious how they differ. I would also love to here some experiences in other areas like the islands or Phuket. Any experiences at S20 festival in Bangkok?

Any random tips would be appreciated as well. I will be bringing nothing but water proof electronics so no issues there, but other than that I'd love to hear things I may not be considering.

Do people generally stop throwing water at night? Wondering if I'll be able to enjoy bars without being soaked.

I've heard there are some great Speak Easy's in Bangkok. Any suggestions on which are worth visiting? Would also take advice for other locations like Chiang Mai, I'll be visiting various areas of Thailand.

As a side note, I am looking for adderall (or some variant) while I'm there to keep me alive. Also looking for xanax as I'm a very bad flyer but have struggled getting a prescription here. Anyone have any experience getting these? I know they are legal there, however I don't know if it's as easy as walking in and asking at any pharmacy. Any best practices?

Thanks for any advice, happy to clarify anything if needed!

>>
You shouldn't have any problem getting adderall no idea what the Thailand brand naming will be.

Xanax has been banned for a long time in Thailand now. I used to grab few hundred at a time from Thailand/Indonesia then bring back 3 months worth of maximum dosage by law (Australia) resell and pay for the trip.

Been banned from to many rape cases of this being a factor in apparently.

Do you want to party with some westerners or a bunch of Thais? Looking to fuck hookers or back packers? All this plays into where you want to stay.
>>
I am also headed to Thailand in the very near future for Songkran.

Where is a good place to hookup with quality thai girls that are clean of STD/HIV. Or any recommendation on places to hookup with backpackers.

Suggestions on places to party with Australians and thais
>>
>>1227234
Most Thai girls are clean. Unless you are delving deep into slum areas. Which you won't because these are the places nobody can speak english and you will actually have to go out of your way to get to.

Khao san road is where you can find local thai's who are looking for western guys, you will also find a lot of western girls. It's the backpacking hub of Asia, probably the biggest backpacking hub of the world. Outside that maybe sukumvit soi 11 and 13 (I think) are other more affluent areas of bangkok. You will find westerners and wealthier thai's here. Avoid places like soi cowboy unless you are looking for a hooker.

Tinder in bangkok will be your best friend, you can find a girl within minutes and be banging in the next hour.

Pseudo-business class on short flights is the true redpill. I can't afford proper business class but I always get last minute upgrade deals on 3-5 hour flights and the easier checking in and boarding is worth the 100-150 euro pricetag alone.
