Hey guys I'm doing a road trip across the US and might have to go alone. Does it suck going cross country by yourself? Is there anything worth seeing by yourself or should you just drive straight from point A to B.

Also do you have any tips for doing it to save money? I was thinking of sleeping in my car.

It can be pretty comfy to go by yourself. There's something special about having the open road all to yourself.

Anything worth seeing at all is worth seeing by yourself.

Plenty of places to camp. Sleeping in your car can be awful after a night or two.

>Does it suck going cross country by yourself?
Depends how you plan it and how much time you set aside to visit each place.
>Is there anything worth seeing by yourself or should you just drive straight from point A to B.
Do you just enjoy sitting in your car? If so then yeah it's fun to do point A to B. Find some places you might be interested in, Route 66 drive is stupid overrated after you cross the Mississippi river till you get to like Albuquerque(bad city go to santa fe).

Depends on the area, in places like New orleans, or anywhere in Louisiana and surrounding areas, you'll never be alone, but in places like flyover states, you might be

Especially if you hit the South during football season, you can literally walk up to a tailgate and say you aren't from the US and people will shove food in your face

We had this guy from Russia walk up to our Rugby tailgate at LSU and said that he was curious how we partied, and we made him right at home, it's just southern hospitality.

My Grandpa is an old Cajun and he met some guy from Poland, and he invited him to a supper with all of his cajun buddies

But that's in Southern Louisiana where everyone is friendly as fuck, in other places it is not the same, just putting in my 10 cents

pic related, the best food in the world

I'm traveling to Australia from the US alone and I'm curious, what do you do with your valuables when you can't take them with you?

Where do I leave my camera, laptop, phone, etc. when I'm surfing for example?

why are you taking your laptop to the beach
>>
>>1230594

Most decent hotels have a safe in each room. It's not exactly a super-secure safe, but will prevent casual criminals from access. I just use that and don't worry too much about it. Otherwise if you are renting a car, I'd just put it in the trunk or somewhat hidden in the passenger compartment and lock it up.

If you insist on taking it to the beach, I'd at least hook up with some similar-minded people and rotate who stays on the beach to mind the stuff while the others surf or swim...
>>
>>1230594
If doing hotels, just leave it in the room or use the safe. Most beaches have lockers for stuff with a timer, just google it.

/trv/ I'm going to Dublin on Easter weekend. What should I actually see and do there and what should I avoid?

Any tips on how to deal with anxiety while abroad? I'll be going with my girlfriend and I'm not the best company if I'm just freaking out all the time.

>>
>>1230556
Anxiety for what? It's a fucking vacation, it's not rocket science, go grab a pint of Guinness and get drunk with some locals, walk around

and if you anxiety is that fuckin bad to where you can't enjoy a fucking vacation, smoke and drink until you do
>>
>>1230563
Xanax and Guinness is my plan, but fuck you just reach a point where you are scared to be anxious and the vicious circle repeats itself.
>>
>>1230575
I get ya mate, it happens.
Just realise that youll never see most of the people around you ever again.
My advice would be to avoid temple street for anything more than a pint for the sake of saying youve been there
I can give more suggestions if you want, what are ya into and is it just the weekend youre here for

What's a good travel destination right on the path of totality? So far I've only been to the US once so pretty much everywhere is good, but Idaho, Wyoming or (eastern) Oregon would be great. Tennessee/Kentucky would be interesting as well.

>>1230541
Some friends and I are planning on hiking the Blue Mountains in eastern Tennessee/Kentucky just before then.

If it wasn't for the hassle involved we'd probably consider spending that time taking a road trip from LA up to Seattle, stopping in the path of totality on the way.
>>
I like Charleston SC but it probably has among the worst weather prospects
>>
Oregon ma fucka. Were having huge parties out here.
Check out Symbiosis it's going to be in Eastern oregon I think

Which dangerous travel destinations are most fun if you're somewhat indifferent whether you make it back alive?

Assume you've gotten AIDS and that you do only have 6 months left before you have to spend the rest of your life in a hospital bed waiting to die

Oh def Libya. The country is massive with ancient roman ruins that no one has been to in years, experience the sahara desert with touregs on camels, there is 0 tourism, you have to arrange all of this yourself but the people are good and communicative and would help you for free just because your a foreigner, good food too, summers are way too hot. Wilder things to do, try firing klashinkov's, and gold exploring in the south.
>>
Brazil is your answer.
>>
>>1230560
You've probably never been to Brazil you dumb fuck. If you don't go to the slum on your own nothing ever happens.

Is the Scavi tour worth doing? Going to Italy this summer but my time in Rome will be limited.

What? Do you need witnesses to sign your application or what? Why is it necessary?
>>
>application for international driving permit
>photocopy of national driving license, from both sides, signed by two witnesses
What kind of bullshit is this, the driving license is verified in the process anyway. Also nearest office is so far I can't just go there whenever and hope they'll sign it there

I guess I'll never drive outside the EU then

I'm going to Portugal in a few months and have never been to Europe before. 'm travelling there with my brother and we will be staying a few days in Lisbon before we go south to Algarve to spend a few days there. We might travel to Spain too.

Has anyone who's been to these countries give some general tips or advice? I've heard lots from friends and family who've visited Portugal but I'm curious to hear other people's experiences if they have any.

Pic unrelated

Algarve is shit, it's full of working class British package tourists. Visit the smaller cities around the country, like Tomar, and go up to Porto. Lisbon's a great city to go for a wander and get lost in.
>>
>>1230497
Portuguese here, I support this.

While Algarve has some very nice beaches and views, that and some drunk British jailbait is all it has to offer.

I would recommend exploring Lisbon and Porto, but I'm more of a city guy myself.

Feel free to ask questions.

Im flying into Lisbon this summer, 10 day trip. I planned Lisbon for a few days and then visit some beaches south from here along the coast, but not all the way down to Algarve. Maybe I should travel north instead, and see Porto too? How would you recommend I travel? Rental car? Bus?
also can airbnb work. I plan to stay each place for 1-3 days. Any must see places along west coast? Alot of questions, I know. TIA.

1. What are the two best ancient ruins to visit for someone who knows very little about the Mayans? Other than Chichen Itza.

2. Where can and can't I drink tap water? Will salsas give me problems? (they're made with water)

3. Isla Mujeres or Cozumel?

>Where can and can't I drink tap water?
Can't: Mexico. Can: Costa Rica. Bottled is everywhere and the way to go.
>Will salsas give me problems? (they're made with water)
Maybe but unlikely. They're acidic, which makes them slightly antibacterial, and they're mostly not water but tomato juice. There are horror stories about all kinds of condiments in street taquerias being full of e. Coli, and there will be some risk with any veg, but the risk is not high enough to keep you from living. Diarrhea won't kill you. (Usually. It does kill a lot of people, globally, but not otherwise healthy tourists in Mexican resorts. Rehydrate and take Cipro if you get the shits.)

I am going to Mongolia in a week on a business trip, can anybody recommend any must sees and dos during the short periods of free time I will have?

When are you going? I would also like to socialize, Id think hostels are a good place. I would like to access some more remote locations like San José which looks tough to do by train or bus, so making friends and having a car ride would be fantastic.

Will be going to the Philippines in around late June or early July with a girl who may or may not be my committed gf by that time.
We really want to just see some really nice beaches and relax. But she also wants to see the Banaue Rice Terraces.

Anyway, has anyone on /trv/ gone to the Philippines for a trip or vacation? How much did you spend and how much should I have saved for it? Where did you go and how did you get around?
