Me and a buddy(22) are planning to go on a short vacation, not too expensive in a sunny location.
We have a goal to get laid but we don't want it all to be about that, we would like to travel and experience beatiful scenery, culture, beaches, aswell.
so nightlife is an important factor but we want there to be more than that.
we were thinking Cyprus because flight tickets there are relatively cheap, and I guess Ayia Napa is the place to go? I would like suggestions experiences, and are there other places in cyprus we can explore after the partying gets old?
is mid may a good time to go or is it neccesary to wait atleast until june?
We are open to hear more suggestions aside from ayia napa though, so please give us ideas...
where are you from?

I was in Aiya Napa for two weeks a few years back. Went there alone to just recharge batteries and relax. Lots of nightclubs and that sort of stuff. Entertainment things. Around Aiya Napa was nothing but dry moonscape with gay men wandering about. Some hilarious greasy little Greek tried to pick me up and later I accidentally walked on some dudes fucking behind a rock. West of the island is greener and has mountains and things of interest but you need to rent a car for that. Couple of decent beaches but nothing amazing. It looks like the budget place it is.

I see, well I'm beggining to change my mind about it. do you have any suggestions for a sunny vacation though? greek islands maybe.. and also are those in the op but is mid may a good month? I know june-sep would probably be better, but how is mid may in regards to temperature, are all the clubs still working same hours they do in the summer?
I am an American who is interested in visiting these countries often.
Which language (other than English) should I make myself fluent in?
>>1236968
A lot of Swedes have some German; Finns (whose language is complex and not related to any of its neighbors except Estonian) study Swedish in school but many don't like to speak it (Finns often don't like Swedes); Norwegians have some comprehension of spoken Danish and Swedish, probably more so than vice versa; the Danish phonology is regarded as obscure/unintelligible and comical to many other Scandinavians; Icelanders study Danish in school. Netherlanders can understand Afrikaners and Flemings better than vice versa.
In short, English, as you might expect, is the main lingua franca in the region.
But if you have an ear for language and were to master any of the Scandinavian North Germanic languages, for example, you would probably find it easier to pick up the basics of the others even if you couldn't really use the language you studied on the street very effectively across borders. Pronunciation really varies a lot--enough to render many things incomprehensible--but they share a lot of vocabulary. Even German would probably give you an edge; a German speaking friend of mine always says that Swedish reminds her of German with a really funny accent.
>>1236973
That was really helpful, thank you.
I'm trying to pick the most popular one to start with so I don't get ripped off or worse when I'm alone.
>>1236977
>the most popular one
If you're talking populations, that's obviously German; there are more than three times as many Germans as there are people in all the other countries on your list combined. It's roughly the 9th most spoken native language in the world, followed by Sweden with the 89th. And German fluency ought to make it easier to acquire proficiency in any of the other languages on your map except Finnish.
But you will almost surely be more successful walking down the street trying to speak English to strangers than trying to speak German anywhere on your map.
All that said, pick the language you like most, even if it's one of the little ones. If you have a good head for languages it will offer an interesting foundation atop which to learn the others. If it turns out that languages are hard for you, you'll never get fluent anyway and you will make do in English. Nothing lost.
Hi /trv/,
In a few weeks I will be heading out to Dubai for a week, my friend will be working a few of those days and won't be with me.
Can anyone recommend places to go and sites to see?
Thanks

Desert safari was pretty awesome
>>1237170
My mate isn't too keen on doing it, says it can get boring after awhile.
Did you get up to anything else out there?
Thanks for the response.
>>1237260
Well man, idk why your mate doesn't seem to want to go. Safari was the highlight of the experience.
> boring after awhile
I mean it is like a 8-9 hour trip only, how can you get bored?
Well the waterparks were top notch. Also going to Ski Dubai and getting on Burj Khalifa make cool stories for later.
Also had a boat trip on the Dubai creek with a fancy dinner; excellent food
I`m going to travel in Colombia for 2 weeks, I want to spend som time in Cartagena,MedellĂn, Bogota and maybe Cali.
All tips and recommendations about cool places and things to do will be highly appreciated! Thank you
You best be flying if you only have 2 weeks..
If it was me, I would pick a region,
like... do cartagena, some islands, minca, then go to tayrona, palomino and maybe up to la guarjia.
Or medellin, quibdo into the Pacific Coast. Choco region.
Or bogota, into the coffee triangle. Salento, bogota and medellin are fairly close could easily do both.
Cali is around popayan, and San cipriano.
I think just bouncing from big city to big city you are missing the real treasures of colombia.
Thanks!, I think you are absolutely right, I will take some time to reconsider my travel choices in Colombia.
Thanks again for the tips

I'd like to collaborate on a interesting project there or hang out with some skaters or something like that. Is there loop hole to work in canada? What would you do if you were going there

wtf is that a picture of? looks like some sort of a frame made out of copper pipe, but to what? and what's with all the zip ties on it?
>>1235971
Either someone ironically saved the image, or it's the original ((diy)) fag that makes the worst shit for skating ever.
>>1237417
is it a deck made out of pipe?
What's the best theme park in the world?

sad but true
I'm in my mid 20s and decided that the culture and way of life in America makes me miserable and that it's time to move on
Things I have going for me:
>60k USD
>Bachelor's Degree in Business
>Volatile online business that nets me ($2000-5000 per month)
>Single white male
I'll be going to SEA for a 2 month period. I was planning to go to Thailand (Bkk, Chiang Mai) to see if I like living there. What other cities and countries should I keep in mind where the climate is warm, the people are friendly, and cost of living is low ($500/month for condo/internet and local food)?

I'm trying to plan some free time that I'll have in Europe, which should amount to around 7 - 10 days. It's easy to stretch it out to 10.
Right now I'm thinking of the following plans:
>Amsterdam + Paris + ?? (maybe Normandy for WWII stuff?)
>Prague + Vienna + Bratislava (I have been to Prague before but it would be nice for another day or two)
>Madrid + Barcelona (maybe somewhere else as well)
>Rome + Florence + Naples
>London + Bath + Edinburgh
History, culture, museums, etc. are all most important. I love nature as well, but I will be traveling alone so I'd rather stick to cities.
I'm 25 years old but I don't care too much about partying.
It would be cool to get laid, but I already have a girlfriend so it's not so important.
Places I have visited:
>Berlin, Dresden
>Prague, Cesky Krumlov
>Kyiv
>Krakow, Warsaw
>>1235292
>>Rome + Florence + Naples
spend your time in Italy

If you're willing to fly (not expensive) between cities, you could do a great cultural death march around Paris, Vienna, Rome in 10 days. Buy the visitor/museum card for Paris and Vienna and see as much stuff as you can. You'll be exhausted at the end of the day and won't be tempted to stray. It's called the Vienna Pass in Vienna, can't remember the name is Paris but it's a similar deal; covers major museums and public transport. I don't know if there is one for Rome but you should book online for Vatican museum and other major places; take an organized tour of the Colosseum / Forum to beat the crowds.

His show sucks.
Anyone here been to Madagascar? Is it worth the trip?
I'm also interested to hear opinions on the place. It's expensive as fuck to get to. Attenborough documentaries make it look like an alien paradise, but looking at google street view it looks sort of 'meh', especially with wonders of the world like Mauritius, Tanzania, and the Mozambique coast right next door.
I was considering it, because I got a free flight to anywhere Delta flies and i believe this is one of their destinations. The main problem is that the place is nice, but impossible to travel to the interior or not-so-touristy areas that people always go to. As far as ancient ruins and culture go, there's these 13 hills, most with tombs on them and offerings, but there's so many layers of respect that you have to show that it's almost impractical.
Go to Mozambique instead. Granted, you don't get *quite* the animal/landscape diversity that Madagascar has, but I guarantee it's more accessible and ultimately a better travel location.
>Want to go to New York
>Select hotel for 10 nights
>Prices start with 450 USD
>For that price I can only get some fucking lair with no windows
>For something more reasonable, I need to pay 900$.
Any advices on getting something nice for cheap price? Should I keep my eye on some sales or promotions or something or are those prices rather constant?

I assume you mean NYC?
Upstate and the capitol would be $100 (max) per night. Have you thought about staying a bit outside the city and taking public transportation in each day?

Isn't renting rooms for less than 30 days illegal in NYC?

Have any of you anons traveled to Jamaica? How was the experience?
I am thinking about going there whenever I can save enough money. I really like the Blue Mountains area, locals look friendly, and it's very beautiful.
I have been to other Caribbean islands and I had a wonderful time. (Cuba, and Dominican Republic)
The mountains and forests in these countries were amazing.
Would appreciate some advice and insight!

Jamaica is a good place to visit if you want to be murdered.
>>1232160
That is bullshit man. The US is probably more dangerous then Jamaica.
Kingston has a pretty high murder rate. I'd like to go, but as with a lot of other places, I worry about being white and sticking out like a sore thumb. I wouldn't do an all inclusive thing, since if I do that I may as well stay in Florida.
Would you give up your apartment to live in a van and pursue your /out/ passions?
Many climbers live like this.
Anyone else?
I'm *really* drawn to the idea and am in a line of work that is suitable. But I don't think I'll do it anytime soon because 1) I'm not handy enough to build a good setup and more importantly 2) I probably need to right now become more, not less, integrated into society
>>1225655
But believe me, I fantasize about it a lot. It combines my loves of coziness, solitude, and mobility.
I think this is one of those things that only sounds great because it's different from your current life... but beyond a week or two it would get quite lonely and uncomfortable.
So i'll be moving from Australia to the UK in about a month, got my passport sorted, a friend's couch to crash on for starters and maybe even a job lined up. I've never been on a flight this long so tell me: what the hell do I do for 21 hours in the air? My laptop only lasts about 1.5 hours off charge and my phone will last a little longer again but I don't know what i'll do other than twiddling my thumbs at this stage. Even if I get to sleep for a while (I suck ass at sleeping on planes) i'm still left with tons of downtime.
What keeps /trv/ entertained on it's long flights?
Get shitfaced cunt.
