I am thinking of studying tourism (Here in the Netherlands it is called HTRO and at the university I plan to do it the entire study is in english and is called "International Tourism Management")
Does anyone here have experience in studying tourism? What kind of jobs can I expect? General tips?
Thanks in advance!
literally no jobs
what a shit tier degree it's almost up there with womens studies
who is going to go "wow this guy studied international tourism I best give him a job"
study something relevant or go straight into the work force and self educate. You'll move up 5xfaster than wasting 3 years studying a useless degree you could have self studied in 6months
>>1240133
Can you recommend me any good study then? Perhaps one where similar skills are needed

Sometime the ignorant and directionless adolescent rage of 4chan users is just too much.
We seriously need better moderation of this board or else we're going to end up like /int/.
I have never gone out of the USA before and was interested in visiting Bali, has anyone here been there before and can you give me feedback and tips on what it's like?
>>1239949
Bali is for Australians what Cancun is for Americans or Ibiza is for Brits; there's a rich culture there but it's being slowly sodomized by drunken Aussie tourists wanting to get shitfaced in somewhere cheap and exotic.
>>1239949
Go to Lombok instead op
>>1239965
exacto, I am from Aus and anyone that goes to Bali is instant trash in my books
I am sure its a nice place but ruined by the tourists and drunk aussies

Hey /trv/ I wanna try and check out the bigass robot elephant in Nantes but I'm on a tight budget. Would be flying out of the west coast of the US and wondering if there's any way I can pay for a French plane ticket in just a bunch cartoons of Muhammad since they love that shit over there.

>Would be flying out of the west coast of the US
France is, unfortunately, closed for the summer. Try somewhere else like Disneyland. They have pointless moving things for the dimwitted / easily amused, you'll love it.
>>1239875
Fuck off France is close, you let niggers and mudshits in every day so they can fuck up your cities and ruin your culture. At least this anon won't shoot or bomb anything. Then again, maybe the muds should take out pretentious cunts like you.
>wants to travel without money to see some ridiculous art installation
>being horribly rude when asking
>getting super mad when no one bothers to come with useful advice
Good job perpetuating those stereotypes, Americunt.

Places worth seeing outside of tourist and immigrant hellholes known as cities
Holy crap OP where is that?
I love cities and towns where the mountains are right in your face.
>>1238902
Looks to be Telluride, CO.
To OP, I'm very fond of towns in Western Massachusetts, including Northampton, (about two hours west of Boston), or the much smaller, very charming village of Shelburne Falls (pic related). Some cute little towns in Vermont, too. But these are all bookish, liberal places, so they might not be to your taste if you're a right-winger.

Same here, sadly I live in a flat country. Do you have any recommendations for places to visit?
Hi ! I'm going to spend some months in Montreal Quebec since I'm lucky and got a work permit. I'll probably try to find a flat share because I don't really want to end up alone in my appartment after work ahah.
What should I know before going ?
Is the life expensive in Montreal compared to France ?
Nice or cheap neighborhood to live in (without being in a ghetto) ?
Nice things to see in the city ?
Maybe good banks to open an account ?
Thanks !

No, you'll find it much cheaper. You can get a shared apartment downtown (or close) for about 400$CDN. There's a group on FB where people look for flatmates.
Nice or cheap neighborhood to live in (without being in a ghetto) ?
I recommend you stick to a neighborhood that's central. Most French people live on the Plateau, but also consider the Miles End, St Henri, downtown and even the gay village (it's no that gay nowadays). Avoid west of downtown unless you want to constantly speak english. HoMa and Petite Patrie is also pretty trendy with students.
Nice things to see in the city ?
There's a lot, especially if you like nightlife. I won't even try to cover that here.
Maybe good banks to open an account ?
Check for banks that have agreements with French banks. Scotia Bank has an agreement with BNP, TD with Credit Agricole I believe. Other than that, just pick one that's convenient. Desjardins is everywhere.
Good luck with the job. Unemployment rate is at record lows right now, so you should find one pretty easily especially if you speak French already.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
My only issue is that unfortunately my bank doesn't have any agreements whith a canadian one but I'll manage then..
I'm really looking forward to be there now !

Have fun! What months are you going?
When should I go there?
Which places should I visit and which activies should I do?
my first solo trip btw
>>1238646
>When should I go there?
Obviously when the weather is nice. You can go basically from April till September.
If you go solo I would recommend Amsterdam. There are other nice cities in the Netherlands but in Amsterdam you will have the easiest time connecting with other people.
Also I recommend you look out for a food festival in Amsterdam. I think there are a few every year - they are awesome.
Costwise how is it?
Food accommodation etc.

There's something for every budget. How much are you looking to spend?
North Korea has always interested me as a country, being the most reclusive and uniquely disturbing nation on this planet. Something about it makes me want to go visit and absorb what life is like there. Of course I understand that what I will see on the tour isn't what most NK's go through on a daily basis, merely what they want you to see. However, I would really like to go and see it for myself. Problem is I don't really know how to get started. Is it true that you can't go solo? Which tour companies would you recommend? What will the bureaucratic process be like? Has anyone here ever traveled there and would be willing to share some tips?

Thanks.
Also if your interested in the DPRK have a look here. >>>/p/3052889
I'm very well travelled, just got back from Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia) a few weeks ago. I enjoy doing all the tourist type stuff in more exotic places and I'm visiting NYC for the 5th time but never bothered doing any of the tourist stuff there. My mates got a new apartment in Manhattan a few blocks from Time Square and I'm hoping to see and experience something which is only found in NYC. Any ideas? I can't be bothered with Statue of Liberty or any of that rubbish, seen it for years on TV in HD and it's never going to be as good in person.
Any ideas? The more alternative the better - I'm from the UK if that helps.
>>1237531
If you are well traveled you have no reason to go t NYC. It is overrated. There will be nothing for you there. Why not go somewhere interesting?
>>1237531
nude cowboy in times square?
Hey OP, I'm going to NYC for the 2nd time next month. Do you have any recommendations for non-touristy things to see?
I've heard romanticized stories of the past about this railway, and I think it could be a good way to see rural Russia. But I don't know of anyone who's gone. Has anyone on /trv/ gone? Are there any good tour groups to work with?
>>1235327
Take the Trans-Mongolian one instead
> I think it could be a good way to see rural Russia
Lol no. If you want to see rural Russia, go to any town that is not a regional capital at least 200 km from Moscow.
>>1235327
you see jack shit from the train. the lake-side stretch on the pic is like half an hour exception during the week-long journey
Hey guys,
What are some cool things to do in New Zealand?
I'm planning on going to New Zealand when I have saved enough money. I don't know how long to go for, a rough price guide, and where to go.
I enjoy things like hiking, museums, great views, beaches, great food, historical and cultural things, and shopping. I have heard about Aurora Australis? If any of you have seen it or know anything about when/ where would be best to see it?
>>1234796
Go to Fiordland and West coast and Marlborough sounds and Southern alps
That's where most of the amazing scenery and hikes are
Go to Timaru for beaches, go to Dunedin for museums, go to Oamaru for historical stuff
At the bottom of NZ, aurora is barely visible at the rare moments when it comes
Go to Antarctica if you want to see aurora australis
I have never been outside of my island (south island) so I don't know what's in north island, but I assume there will be lots of Maori cultural stuff up there
t. nzanon
Queenstown
Milford Sound
Franz Josef or Fox Glacier
Wellington
Fiordland
Waiheke Island
Bay of Islands
Waitomo Caves
If you're going between April-September, go to the South Island and ski. Otherwise, the whole country is good, but North Island has far better beaches from November-March
Queenstown is THE absolute must if you're going to NZ. Do NOT skip it.
>>1234796
Go to Marlborough for the views and the wines. Picton is absolutely beautiful, and the wines really are world class. Also, the ferry from Picton to Wellington is a nice way to see some of the coasts.
Somebody stiffed me at a store earlier by giving me a 200 Ugandan shilling coin instead of a 10p.
Got me thinking, I'd never get to spend this coin, because Uganda is an unsafe shit-hole. But is it really?
What countries have a bad rep for being dangerous, but aren't really too bad?
>>1233606
Except for some parts of the capital cities, Central America is mostly not as dangerous as its reputation.
Mexico City isn't as bad as people think, either, mostly because it used to be a lot worse.
Probably quite a few muslim countries. Most of them are just fine safetywise, but people will think hurrdurr terrorists. As an example I went to West Bank and it was perfectly safe.
I can only personally speak for Kenya, but speaking to expats/other backpackers/aid workers I think most East Africa is fine. Obviously there's bad spots but too often people write off an entire country because of one tumultuous region. I probably wouldn't go partying around the Somali or South Sudanese borders but that leaves an area the size of Oregon to explore. Even Nairobi after dark is fine as long as you don't act like an idiot and stay away from the bad neighborhoods.
Anyone here frequent Cedar Point a lot over the years? I'm trying to find a sandwich place that I used to go to, but it may be closed. Still looking for the name of it. It was on the side of the road on the way there coming from the east. It was really small and resembled a gas station without the gas station equipment out front.
>>1239662
Sorry mate, I've never had any desire to visit Ohio.
>>1239662
Just go to the Famous Daves BBQ place in the Marina area across from the park's side entrance. It's actually pretty good for chain BBQ, and you can get a family platter served on a metal garbage pail lid (they're fancy like that).
>>1239662
Sandusky native here. You are thinking of the crunchy pickle right. It closed because the owners armed robbed some people
Hi, I am planning on going to Florence next year. While I am excited about seeing everything in the city. Is there anything outside the city or nearby that I should visit? Or any nearby towns I should check out. Thank you
Depends on what you consider nearby. Luca an Sienna are a train-ride away, and they are both stunning cities, very different from Florence. Arezzo is also very nice if you're into lesser-known renaissance artists.
>>1239116
Thanks. Found a day trip to siena and pisa so that should be good. Any places i should definitely see inside florence. Better if free :)
>>1239308
there's tons of churches, some are free, some are paid, depending on the day or whatever. Just try your luck. The Duomo, the big one, is always free. The baptistery, right across, is not free. I haven't been inside that one, but I hear it's p.good. Then the museums, I guess Ufizzi deserves half a day. And the Piazzale Michelangelo (google it, not hard): it's just a bit out of the way, meaning if you walk around the city following the hordes of tourists you will never find it, but you can definitely get there on foot, or just take a quick bus. Nice view, atmosphere, etc. Just a big park, maybe take some food with you and chill.
Anyone ever travel by sail? I've always wanted to crew on a boat to travel to various islands, but alas, I don't own a boat or know anyone with a boat.

lots of older men looking to meet younger women which is pretty weird
if you can pay for your cost of transport to and from ports and your food while on board there's a lot of men in their 50s and 60s with boats but not enough people to go overnight
