Who else /nofriends/ but wants to see the world? Ive always wanted to travel but I have no one to go with. Does anyone have experience going on vacation alone? Is it more/less enjoyable that way?

Very limited amount of friends, none of which are too keen of traveling.
Still planning on hoboing across the globe next month. Talked to some people who did travel a lot too, also mostly alone. They usually say it's better if you want to force yourself to talk to people of other cultures and you can always decide for yourself what you do.
Probably also depends in what you wanna do exactly.
Hiking through mountains and forests for example can actually be a lot more dangerous if you don't have anyone else around.
>>
>>1251980
I have friends but they're all shitty travel companions, so I'm mostly in your spot. The only real way to travel is alone. You're more free and can immerge more into the surroundings.
>>
>>1251980
Yea I have shitloads of friends but travelling alone is essentially the only option since most of them are up to their eyes in debt for stupid shit and educations debts etc.

It works out cheaper and easier to travel alone. If you ever travel with a woman you'll never worry about travelling alone again.

I have a week off in October and I've been looking for cheap flights and found very cheap flights to Milan.

I've heard Milan is pretty boring, so I'm wondering if there are places worth visiting nearby? I've heard Stresa is nice, but might not be great in October. Is Verona worth visiting? And how about the coastal area to the South?

I've done venice/bologna/florence/rome/naples before and enjoyed greatly, especially Bologna.

If it matters, I'll be with my girlfriend, we like drinking beer (but not partying), art, architecture, and good food.

Milan isn't boring mate, but it's still a really good base if you want to visist other places. Cities nearby such ad Bergamo, Pavia, Cremona and Mantova (pic related) are really good. Liguria (the coastline) is also fantastic, google Cinque Terre. You can go on a day trip there, but i think they're more enjoyable if you stay there and have some good walks. Still, don't underestimate Milan, there's plenty of stuff to do.

Eurobros, do any of you have experiences of international trips on Flixbus? I have some spare money and I wanted to solo-travel to one or two cities in Europe, but I have no car and my budget is limited. Flixbus is pretty cheap and I often use it for national trips, but sometimes it's really unreliable with prices, and international trips are scarce. Does any of you have some experiences to share/tips? Are there cheaper/more reliable ways to travel to suggest?

Not with flixbus but other bus companies. You can get super deals but any ride longer than 4h is hell and punctuality is shit (traffic etc).
You can always check
>https://www.busradar.com/map/#/

The price might look fantastic but you can get around for about the same money using budget airlines or book trains early.
>>
>>1251673
Long rides aren't a problem as long as I don't pay much, I survived 22 straight hours so I think I'll be fine. I'll look for trains but I'm not confident, and I will trust the devil before I trust budget airlines deals.

Vienna to Munich was boring and squashed surrounded by dirty Eastern Europeans. Every seat taken and no amenities that I recall, but it was only 6 hours so who cares.

Is Manila worth visiting? My dirty Filipina girlfriend is visiting her family there later this year and invited me (airfare not included) and I'm kind of on the fence about it, I don't really mind the whole poor shithole part after way too many visits to Chechnya with my mom to see family (although her family is very Filipino rich so wherever we'd be staying would be nice) but I'm not really sure what there really is there other than crippling poverty and balut. I'm going to have a lot of time to myself while my GF does church bullshit with her family is it a good place to travel around solo as someone who knows pretty much 0 Tagalog? Also would it be weird being a white guy traveling around with a Brown girl? What are some cool attractions (not prostitute related) that you would recommend?

Sorry if this is rambley I'm pretty drunk right now, if anything is too confusing just let me know and I'll try and clarify it. Also this is my favorite board and I love you all.

Hey guys,

As you may have seen, we unfortunately lost 3-2 in an entertaining match with /o/ last weekend. This weekend we have our other two group games to put that right.

This evening /trv/'s virtual football club will play /lit/ in our second game of the Spring Cup. It's down for 20:20 UTC, but will probably be closer to 21:00 UTC which is 5pm US Eastern time, 10pm UK time and 11pm Central Europe time.

We play /soc/ in our final group game on Sunday in the same timeslot too.

If you've somehow not watched it before, each board has an AI team, directed by a manager who sets the players attributes and team tactics, like myself. Real commentators and graphic designers make it quite a spectacle, with thousands watching the stream at times.

The wiki has all sorts of information about the teams and tournaments, and the stream link:

Hey guys
Quick question: what are prices of highway in czech rep., slovakia and hungary ?
I don't want and need to buy ticket for days, I'm interested how much i will pay from one toll point to another in each country.

>>
>>1251273
I don't remember encountering any tolls on cZech highways, but then again I only drove from Prague to Vienna
>>
>>1251273
In Czech Republic and Slovakia you'll just need to buy a vignette. I think they're both around 10 euro's for one that is valid for 10 days. You just get them at a gas station near the border. There are no toll-roads with gates as far as I know. When you have a vignette you're fine.

Don't know about Hungary,
>>
>>1251282
Slovakia and Hungary no longer have vignettes, it's all electronic, but you can pay at gas stations like in the past.

Hungary also has 1-day virtual vignettes and I can't quite understand the system but apparently parts of the highway system are toll-free.

What's up ?

I'm going to Wacken Open Air again this year, and l'm looking for ideas on where to travel for about a week after.

info:
>have round trip plane ticket booked for Hamburg, so I need to get back there at the end
>did a lot in Hamburg last year, interested in going somewhere else
>considering Holland, Denmark, or the Baltic Sea, or Bavaria
>would like to be able to get there via train without 3+ transfers/ 10+ hours

Bavaria would be my first choice because mountains/ castles, but it's really far to any good mountains from the north of Germany.

you could go to Harz Mountains, it's not this far from Hamburg and got lot's of castles
http://www.uncommon-travel-germany.com/harz.html

How do you deal with your survival depending on a few small, easily lost or stolen items?

I live using cash from ATMs, so I depend on my debit card when traveling in SEA.

I'm understandably afraid of getting pickpocketed while I have the card on me, so I keep it locked in my suitcase and my suitcase in a locked private room except for when I collect a wad of cash to live off.

But the problem is that locked room becomes a ball and chain. I get anxious about losing my cash during daytrips.

Then there's my passport, which I also keep locked up with the debit card. Hotels in SEA are often pretty relaxed about ID, but they still ask for it most of the time, which in practice means I don't stay overnight anywhere unless I have a lockable suitcase with me and a private room to stay in.

A fannypack (gag) just seems to invite pickpocketing; it's too visible. I don't even use a full wallet, just a card slip that I keep a few folded notes in (and no card.)

What are your strategies for "this sort of thing," protecting your valuables but not getting trapped by your own security?

One small thing I've figured out: use combination locks. No key means one less thing to worry about. Also, if you bring home an unsavory guest when too drunk to know better, they won't be able to find a combination by rifling through your pockets.

it's so simple, man. If you have no cash, nobody can steal from you. I did 50 000km+ this way already, hitchhiking of course.

Of course I understand you are too paranoid and cash-dependent to try traveling this way.
Nonetheless I can advice you about passport: nobody gives the tiniest fuck about it. Just don't keep it with your valuables and you'll be fine. Myself I have a special pocket at the back of my coat - I have to take it out to reach my documents. So no random cutpurse will ever steal it unaware it's not cash and no burglar will ever care about it.
As to the credit card - well, with this mindset you're fucked, no matter what
>>
I always wear an undershirt that is a pocket tee. I place my credit cards, large bills, and passport in a small plastic zip lock bag and stuff it in this tee pocket.
>>
>>1249506
there is a good thread about money belts/wallets

I keep my passport/cards in either a buttoned pocket when I've left my bag in a hotel or something
I used to use a money belt, but it was awful and honestly not that necessary

since I'm not reaching for it every ten seconds nobody would even know I had them, let alone be able to pickpocket me

my wallet has bus tickets and pocket change in it, no fucks given

I've got enough cash in my pocket for one nights stay (in case my bag is stolen), and enough cash in my bag for half a week (in case I get robbed and loose my passport/cards, then I just post a new one to wherever I am from home and get an emergency passport)

hide the cash in the lining of the bag, thieves often discard the bag nearby after rifling through it

and better than a top pocket you can get a special wallet that clips inside your belt, if you really feel the need

when I plan on getting absolutely wasted, I put a hotel card and enough cash for a taxi in my shoe or taped inside my sock, and leave my passport/card at the hotel

How the shit does it cost you 5k to go to japan? A flight should be around 1000 round trip, hotel (assuming you aren't a dipshit using something like hotels/orbitz) should be around 30 bucks a night
>>
>>1249362
flight is 1.5k
hotel is probably 200 a night so that could end up being another 1.5k or more...I don't know, maybe 3-4 k

Why the fuck are you spending 200 a night on a hotel? Airbnb, or hostel that shit. Most of the time it will be around 30-50 bucks
