Hey /trv/,

From July to August I'm going to be spending 5 days each in Munich, berlin, Nuremberg, Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Brussels, and Amsterdam (with daytrips to the Hague and Frankfurt) for a program through my university. What are some "must-do's" in these cities?

Berlin and Brussels are overrated. Go to Cologne in Germany and Bruges/Ghent in Belgium

>Munich, berlin, Nuremberg, Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Brussels, and Amsterdam (with daytrips to the Hague and Frankfurt)

Munich: 5d ok
Berlin: 5d ok
Nuremberg: 3d enough
Heidelberg: 2d enough
Strasbourg: 3d enough
Brussels: As my previous poster mentioned, a bit overrated, so I would say 3d should be enough but hey, everyone has different interests
Amsterdam: 5d for booze, drugs and white drunk woman for all
The Hague: 3d recommend
Frankfurt: Daytrip probably not enough to see enough but for an impression its fine

Do any of you have experience with Workaway or something like this? How did you like it? Would you recommend it?

A Czech babe I met was doing it in Taipei for two weeks at a hostel and got to stay for free.

She thought it was okay but she had no idea what she was getting into and it was actually shitty work like cleaning bathrooms and crap. And when she left she accidentally needed to stay an extra night and they fucked her over and charged her full price.

Overall seems okay but make sure the place you're going has good reviews and be prepared to actually work and not get to do much of the tourist thing.
>>
>>1255643
With workaway yes. You have to pay for the membershit, at the time it was one year. Once you are in you can contact the hosts which can be searchen by country or by work. Some offer are just "we need a free workslave", but mist offers are genuine.

You need to set a profile to present youself. Good host offers will give you clear instructions about your time. If you both agree, you are gof to go.
>>
I've never done Workaway, but my female friends who've done Woofing say like 40% of the jobs are creepy old guys trying to fuck them, 40% are couples looking for slave labor, with the remaining 20% being pretty ok. Your experience as a solo male will probably be completely different though fwiw

Will it be easily to get laid in these cities?

It's just like the US. 100% depends on how good looking and tall you are.

RooshV is a better place to answer these questions.

Dude, is it easy for you to get laid?
>>
In London I'd say no. Went out many weekends for about 4 years straight and hooked up once that actuallt stemed into a 3-4 month relationship. My looks are objectivley a 5.5/10 so you might have better luck.

Is traveling in Mexico safe? I'm white as fuck and don't know Spanish.

Really nigga?

In all seriousness, I have heard that it's only safe in the tourist areas. If you're one of those RealTraveler™ types, then you might have a hard time exploring outside of resorts and marketplaces.
>>

Just spent the last two weeks travelling around the Yucatan peninsula and I never felt unsafe at any point, even wondering around Merida alone at night after a shed load of mezcal.

I'm white with barely any any Spanish too, btw
>>

just like anywhere it depends on the area, but if you stay in relatively safe cities / parts of town you should be fine

It's because of their current President, Matt Ouimet. He used to run Disneyland and he has taken a quality over quantity approach, discarding all of the shit rides that were only their solely for coaster count record purposes and replacing them with actual decent ones.

Anyone have experience in moving to a foreign country as a means of learning the language?

At some time in my 20s, I've thought about moving to Spain in order to master Spanish (to at least a level in which I can hold a conversation comfortably and be able to articulate myself) as I've always loved the language and I've wanted to master it. I'm currently a native-level English and Lithuanian speaker, and (paired with a natural gift at linguistics) I've taken Spanish for around 5 years at school, so I know the basics but I'm a little rusty due to being out of practise.

What is it like to immerse into an environment in an entirely new language as a beginner? I've done some reading and gone for the obvious tips, i.e. Meet and spend time with only native speakers, avoid being in an English bubble, consume native speaking media etc. But my biggest fear is getting over the inital novice language barrier - being able to communicate at a limited language level without the temptation of using English.

Are there any best cities to move to in order to learn Spanish best/most effectively? I've read that regions which have Spanish as the preffered language and a region in which the accent is most clear, i.e. Madrid over Barcelona (no Catalan preference and clearer accent in Madrid).

What do you make of it anons? What's the best course of action?

>>
>>1261064
Rule of thumb is the smaller the city, the more likely you're to have to actually use spanish and not run into a english bubble.
So you're better off to leave Barca and Madrid out.

Even better Cuba or smaller cities in South America (beside Chile and Bolivia as they have extreme heavy accents) as the english proficiency of the locals out side of the capital cities drops to almost zero/able to give basic directions.
>>
>>1261079
i guess you meant chile and argentina. Bolivia accent is pretty much ok.

>>1261064
Madrid is pretty dull, head north for a better experience. South could be good as well but the accent is most peculiar.
>>
Why Spain? Spain is expensive. You can try Mexico, the women and the country is way cheaper. Not to mention Mexico is home to two ancient world civilizations and the largest Spanish speaking country on the planet.

We're moving to Oregon in a few weeks, anyone have recommendations for areas/neighborhoods to live?

We're looking at Portland right now, we wanna be able to ski regularly and it looks like there and Bend are the only two options. Housing in Bend sucks so we're probably gonna end in East Portland. I've heard Gresham/Troutdale areas are more rural/have less to do. Thoughts?

welcome to being part of the problem, you fucking piece of human garbage. everyone's going to hate you there, and you're going to deserve it. fortunately for you i'm sure you're such an oblivious entitled cunt that you will never notice how much everyone loathes you. but remember this when in 3 years you start bitching about all the new city people moving in, like, totally messing up the chill vibe that used to be here, man.

Anyone been/moved to Ukraine?

How's the dating scene?

What are my chances of finding a nice wholesome Christian girl to settle down and have missionary sex with for the purpose of procreation rather than a getting scammed by a golddigger?

What are my chances of finding decent friends to hang out with and not becoming suicidal from loneliness?

What are my chances of getting beaten/mugged?

Which city best for finding a soulmate, Kiev, Odessa or Uzhgorod?

I'm 37, I speak English, Hungarian, Hebrew and have pretty good income (in Ukrainian standards).

How do I get a job besides ESL? Have an MBA but not Korean
>>
>>1260556
if you want the best working conditions, get a job at a western multinational and get placed in Korea. This is not so easy however.

Getting a job at a Korean company means Korean (i.e. bad) working conditions. You will also have a difficult time at Korean companies without Korean ability.

Hey /trv/,
I've been abroad for two years and am returning to Canada this summer for about 2 months. I'll be staying in Edmonton with some family and will probably have a lot of spare time. I'm interested in going hunting (never been, never shot a gun), canoeing or kayaking, and other basic stuff. Any other suggestions for Edmonton or Alberta in general?
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I'm from Edmonton, coincidentally I'm heading overseas for the summer. It's been awhile since I've been to the mountains but I can recommend some things to do in the city if you want.
>>
I'm a bong, but I spent a few months in Alberta and loved it. For outdoor activities, I don't think there's anywhere better.

The most well-known national park is probably Banff, which has the famous Lake Louise. Both Lake Louise itself and Banff are very fun and you can easily spend lots of time there hiking, mountain-biking, canoeing, horseback riding, etc, if I had to have one criticism it would be that it is a little bit touristy. In contrast, Jasper National Park is closer to Edmonton and, in my opinion, even better than Banff. Just as many beautiful lakes and mountains, but with not quite so many tourists and feels a bit more authentic. That said, I went to Banff in the middle of the summer and the tourists weren't overwhelming at all. I'd recommend going to both, and also taking in the beautiful Icefields Parkway, which is the road that links the two parks, but also a national park in its own right.

Aside from that, there's also loads of smaller provincial parks that are also well worth visiting. Pic related is at the Berg Lake trail at the foot of Mt Robson, on the border of BC near Yoho. I spent most of my time in the north of the province, and Willmore Wilderness Park is very nice too. I'm sure there are many others too.

Will any of your family take you hunting? Luckily I had a friend over there who was really really into his outdoor activities so I could just tag onto whatever he was doing - it might be more difficult if you don't know anyone.

A lot of people only ever travel to the third world for the nature of it and stay out of the cities, I was wondering if you guys knew of any interesting places, not nightlife wise, just interesting.
26 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Guess that depends on what you define as "third-world."

I've enjoyed time in the following cities, in no particular order:

>New Delhi (lived for two years)
>Mumbai
>Kolkata

>Bogota
>Medellin

>Leon (Nicaragua)

>Belgrade

>Sarajevo

>Istanbul (not sure if Turkey is technically third-world, but whatever)

>Tbilisi

I find people in developing countries to be more approachable than their first-world counterparts.

Read a few times here and on some other travel sites that Jakarta has an interesting youth culture and has come some way from it's urban hellscape reputation thanks to some urban renewal programs run by the last couple of mayors.

You have been to paris, France and you enjoyed it. But what specifically ?

frenchfag here.

paris is a nice place to visit especially museums, but don"t waste your time here, there are a shitload of interesting stuff to see all across france, regions of the country are a lot different from one-another, different landscapes and the classic wombo-combo of wine/food specialty/cheese changes a lot from where you are.

i personally reccomand the folowing regions, in disorder. up to you to adjust according to the scedule or what you want to see.

>ardèche (warm weather with rivers is alway nice)
>savoie (because alps are beautiful)
>pays basque (surfin' yo)
>lot et garonne (lots of fruits and fortified cities)
>bretagne (celtbros with bagpipes and funny language)
>corse (a nice island to stay around, language funny too)
>Val de loire (just for the massive castles here)
>auvergne (old volcanoes and lakes)

i belive you have your trip around faguette-country. enjoy.

When compared to the rest of the world, Germans are, indeed, unimaginative, misanthropic, bureaucratic, conservative shitbags. So am I.
>>
I'm Dutch. Perception didnt really change: we have great infrastructure, great people but its boring as fuck when its not summer.

I am just way more content with what we have here: the fact that you can ride a bicycle everywhere, the lack of any sort of corruption, the weather that doesn't kill you, etc.

I used to rail on it in my youth, but while I still understand we have lots of problems I'm lucky to have been born here and can see there is plenty of good things going on.
