Stupid question aside, the difference a lot of people see is monster girls are are girls with monster attributes such as a snake tail, cat ears, etc., while furrys are animals, (dogs, cats, horses, etc.) MADE humanoid, which is why they keep the snout, paws, fur, or other deciding factors. This makes it more seem like fucking a girl with a deformation than a dog with a deformation. The latter seems more degenerate to me.

Monster girl fags are content to stay in their threads and maybe post a reaction image here and there, but a lot of furfags, live, breathe, and post exclusively furry, fucking up the balance of content on other boards.

This is the same reason ponyfags were shoved into a containment board, pone was all they posted. After a while the disruption of regular content got too big and moot had to get rid of them.

This was decided very, very early in the culture of 4chan. According to the stories, moot banned furry outside of /b/ outright (and this has been in place, unchanged, since 4chan's very early days, 2004 at least), largely because they were a bunch of litigious autists who (according to the story) gave him the most grief about suing over reproduction of their pornography (Then why permit the material on /b/, or at all?) You got me, that's a missing piece I never fully understood.

Added to this, from 2004-07, 4chan got well aware of how weird and creepy furry cons actually are, how gay the subculture is, babyfurs, nightmare-tier art, etc. These, plus moot's early unchanged edict, led to a furrsecution culture :^) which continues to this day. It doesn't help when the men of the above subculture are themselves frequently ugly and fat, but that's selling even furries in general a bit short. 's true though, and the more attractive folks who like the porn/actively attend things are pretty well aware of it.

Also, monstergirls, catgirls and the like are more in tune with 4chan's historic beginnings as an "anime-culture" website, with other interests added in.

Interestingly, if you read the current versions of the global and /trash/ rules very carefully, /furry content is merely tolerated here, and not actually in compliance with the rules/. Just because global rule #3 (NO FURRY OUTSIDE OF /b/. PERIOD) is not /enforced/, here, does not mean that it is not in /effect/. /trash/ seems to be an end-run moderation strategy for isolating content that they (historically) would really rather not have on the site in the first place, but demand is just plain too high.

Back in April 1 2005 I think, they had a /fur/ board where they baited and banned posters, just for one day. "April fur's day", they called it. The letter of global rule #3 was, I believe, still in effect at that time, not that it really matters where a gag is concerned.

It was a containment board, plain and simple. The show was popular, at first even accepted, but as things went on it grew too prominent everywhere, so they got their own board so they didn't flood everything else.

Now it's in a sorry state, because all they really want is porn (which they come here for) and the show has been getting more and more shitty as far as I can tell.
