So I finally bought my first Masterpiece Transformer, in the form of Ratchet. What kind of shit should I know about the figure ahead of time? Is MP Ratchet hard to transform? Is he super fragile to move and play with casually? Pieces that break easily?

Be prepared to struggle with the transformation process unless you know Japanese and can read the instructions.

MP toys are notorious for their complex transformation processes. While I haven't heard anyone talk about Ratchet, IIRC most people say his retool Ironhide was not TOO hard to transform, so expect low to mid level difficulty going back and forth from robot to vehicle mold.

Similarly I don't think Ratchet/Ironhide have issues other MP figures (Rodimus and Megatron in particular) have where they are fragile as fuck and can break if you so much as move the arm up or down.

What's surprising is that there's no black plastic parts at all, it is mostly clear yellow plastic entirely coated black. Doing this has the tendency to introduce tolerance issues due to the paint coat.

Sure enough, another anon and me encountered the same issue where a tab was half-a-millimeter too thick, jamming the right shoulder's transformation, preventing it from locking in robot mode.

The pics so far make it seem like the red is molded in that color. It's more noticeable in the TF_PR pics since those use the finished Ginrai. I'm more worried about the blue, since that's harder to tell.

And concerning, God Bomber uses paint in the ONE section that shouldn't have, and it's a problem. The legs are painted to replicate their appearance in Masterforce, but doing that means that the painted section will end up being the soles of God Ginrai's feet, so expect paint transfer in the long run.

So my neighbors just gave me a bunch of TFs from a yard sale, apparently they got a huge pile of boxes for $50 that was mostly Gi Joe toys (what he collects) he gifted me the TF offerings so I thought I share some.
This nerf Megatron is pretty meh. Side shell wings and all. I almost pull the trigger in pricer versions of this mold with better paints but after fiddling with this I'm happy for the bullet I dodged.
