Burger could be awesome. Hoping to see pizza, taco and/or pea pod eventually.

The dribbles of information have started from the usual suspects. There may be up to three costumes in S.17, with a butterfly and food item being "confirmed", and a third hinted at.

some questions from a lego newbie

what are your three top favorite lego sites out there
why does everyone just collect sets, it seems people go crazy over them, but you can get any part you like from say bricklink, no? just need a list of parts
how do people make money off of buying these things and reselling them?
are there single blocks (not minifigs) that are worth collecting?

Here's how the sign is mounted on the pole. The pirate ship mast base doesn't really fit any pieces besides the middle section of the mast, but I found out that this wheel fits inside pretty well. The connection isn't very tight and the sign swivels easily, but it's the best I can do at the moment. Any suggestions for poles?

I'm new also but I only come here. Most other places suffer from user wanking and general extreme autism
Sets are an easy way to get cohesive parts and also are just plain well designed (most of the time). Getting all the parts you need piece by piece is harder than it seems. A lot of the time I don't really know what to get myself
Buying sets and holding them until they retire is an easy way to make a buck. It's just a waiting game (and knowing which ones people want, usually larger sets)
Technic is cool, just different and harder to build larger things with
People here are ok with almost any moc and you won't get insulted even if it's pretty bad (unless you spam)

Same reason people like to assemble jigsaw puzzles and then frame them

>how do people make money off of buying these things and reselling them?
They buy rare, expensive ($300+) sets that are only available in limited areas for a short period of time, then capitalize on the fame of those sets (mostly Star Wars)

I check youtube and brotherbricks sometimes. Mostly I use brickset, bricklink, and here.

>why does everyone just collect sets, it seems people go crazy over them, but you can get any part you like from say bricklink, no? just need a list of parts
Some sets have parts that are harder to find, so it isn't just as simple as buying the parts to get the set.

>how do people make money off of buying these things and reselling them?
Most people don't make much money. They buy sets, keep the parts they want and sell the rest. It counters the amount of money they spend on them. Others just buy sets and sell them in a few years.

>are there single blocks (not minifigs) that are worth collecting?
Some test colors and stuff are cool to collect. Prints are also nice. I collect swords kinda, sure its not exactly a brick, but it isn't minifigs. I don't have a recent picture though.

>why dont people like sharing their mocs? I understand some do, but vasty majority doesn't
It's that whole not wanting to be criticized thing. Or maybe other stuff. Why do people sing in the shower but not in a loaded car? I just don't know.

This place
bricklink
occasionally flickr or something if people have a gallery there, or youtube to see in-depth reviews by Jangbricks to see if i like a set.
>why does everyone just collect sets, it seems people go crazy over them, but you can get any part you like from say bricklink, no? just need a list of parts
They don't.
I get sets if i really like their design, have parts i need that are going to go up in price a lot and to support LEGO
I use bricklink for old parts or large quantities of very specific parts for mocs.
>how do people make money off of buying these things and reselling them?
dunno, i'd rather just work a job since i probably will get seduced into building shit with them
>are there single blocks (not minifigs) that are worth collecting?
You could be scum and hoard a single rare piece bricklink, but i bet there will be better things to make money with.
I personally try to get one of each crazy neon coloured hairpiece out there because i love futuristic punk style fashion, a lot of old printed pieces because i love the oldschool graphicdesign of their corresponding era and food items/prints&pieces for electronic equipment because they are key in making a comfy environment for minifigs.
Only collect things because you like them and use them a lot.
>how does lego community look upon technics?
Cool. Way better suited for intricatele engineered motorized or moving action/play-features. But usually a lot larger in scale and less polished and detailed aesthetically (lots of visible holes and gaps) and don't always look so great with minifigure scale.
>why dont people like sharing their mocs? I understand some do, but vasty majority doesn't

>what are your three top favorite lego sites out there
Brickset, Bricklink, Flickr

>why does everyone just collect sets, it seems people go crazy over them, but you can get any part you like from say bricklink, no? just need a list of parts
For me it's mostly the minifigs. If i want most of the minifigs in a set it's most of the time easier to just buy the set instead of buying everything separate

>how do people make money off of buying these things and reselling them?
Reselling the ones aimed at adults or with rare parts/minifigs when they're retired

>are there single blocks (not minifigs) that are worth collecting?
completely subjective. In the monetary sense: not really, unless you can get your hands on unreleased prototypes (which you can't)

>how does lego community look upon technics?
Sadly we mostly ignore it. I think it's because we prefer looks over functions.

>why dont people like sharing their mocs? I understand some do, but vasty majority doesn't

How do you get Bricklink to show you how expensive/cheap a part is compared to other sellers?
>>
>>6056904
When you look at an individual part's page on Bricklink, scroll down to where it lists the part by color. Click on the color you want.

Above will appear some listing options for how the displayed lots for sale are organized, amongst these you'll find "by cheapest, most expensive, quantity", etc.

Brickset for new set information (also reddit lego leaks for prelim photos and Eurobricks for reviews)
Bricklink to buy single parts
Flickr for moc photos (Brothers-Brick, Rebrickable and Lego Cuusoo as well nice to see new stuff)
No Youtube ever

Many parts are rare and thus expensive. Like for example people are fawning over the out of production Green Grocer Modular but sand green bricks are above the 10 cents a piece rule that most use as a guideline, so building it out of parts from Bricklink is still going to cost like 200$ more than the set cost back then. Another protip for that problem is lego.coms category to buy parts (in the same string as replacement parts) you can buy most of the bricks that are in currently produced sets from there, some for less than what Bricklink charges. Another side of the problem is that not all piecs exist in all colors which is frustrating when using LDD or other computer programms to build something and then you have to work around the design with what actually exists.

Exploiting discounts I guess, it's much different outside of the USA but I could get the Star Wars advent calendar for less than 25€ and sell most of the 9 figures for around 6-4€ each on top of the mini models. Minifigures are the things that are overvalued the most. Currently trying to sell my UCS Slave One Boba Fett for 50€ but when it works I got a UCS model for 103€ and still have the other 3 figs.

MissingNo.???

Separate category completely. Often used for stability but generally looked down upon. They can be helpful in functions like sliding doors but most people are unwilling to get into the complications of gears workings.

Most think their builds are shit which is probably true when you have competition like what Brothers-Brick showcases every day. I am also lazy and photographing something is a feat in and of itself. Unless you have some good backdrop you get hounded by people analyzing your plug sockets (except here ironically).

Are newer bricks of lower quality?
>>
>>6057425
Yes. There was a time in the early-mid 2000s when the durability was very poor, and it's gotten better since then, but it's not as good as it used to be. It's common for 30+ year old pieces to be fine while pieces from a few years ago crack just sitting around being connected to something (someone a thread or two back had a torso crack just sitting on a shelf with legs plugged in).

I've heard a lot of horror stories like >>6057429
going around lately, but I've been building since the nineties and brick quality seems no worse than before, even the Chinese parts. The only parts I've ever had break from regular use were lime Bionicle joints from the notorious bad batch. Avoid exposing your bricks to extreme temperatures, sunlight, and essential oils, and you should be alright.
>>
>>6056674
I heard a rumor that LEGO priced this one so high, as well as the other sets from 2016, because the demand was too great and they were having a hard time keeping up with growing demand in Asia.
It looks like 2017 will bring slightly cheaper sets, unless Trump nukes the world, which is likely because he's retarded and insane.
>>
>>6057454
Yea, the Phantoka-Mistika-Glatorian line was made with the brittle joints (almost forgot the lime joints from Mahri sets), truly a pain to build with (the sets I mean), and are not advised for MOC building

Forgot to mention the plastic quality of the whole figure feels a lot lighter and thinner than the other minifigs I've picked up lately, like pretty much any of my Dimensions sets. I'd probably buy more sets if I had room for them. But once you buy something this huge (along with getting Benny's spaceship for free, buying Jabba's palace + Rancor pit, the Millennium Falcon, and tons of MOCs), the desire to buy all the awesome sets that come out tends to fade. With how limited my space is, I'm pretty much only buying their collectible minifigures or going on Bricklink to buy exactly what I need. Once I get over all the financial hurdles that the holidays put in front of me, I might think about selling what I don't need.

Our apartment isn't tiny, but it's not all that big and now that we have two asshole cats, I have nothing out in the open for them to fuck up or eat. I made a few displays for my minifigures, but recently I made this one and it holds around 80 minifigures. I kind of regret making it since it's difficult to photograph or even store it. >people give them shit because they pretty much have the same gameplay

It's really tragic to see the potential wasted on the generic mechanics of the current games. They really do deserve a lot of the shit they get, because the older games, while flawed, had a lot of variety.

I mean, Rock Raiders had some tense shit when I was a kid, I loved that game. Some of those missions were really cleverly (and in some cases, cruelly) designed. The AI was terrible at times though. They'd run halfway across the map just to turn around for lunch when there's ample resources close to the base. I also loved making some wacky tracks in Stunt rally. If only the racing was more like Racers.

That said, the current games do some good stuff in other departments. Lego city undercover nailed the humor and just jammed it up with references.

I think one part of it is the Brick Bank looks best on the left side, so you get the Laundromat detailing facing outwards.
I don't have it yet, but that's where I intend to put mine.
Currently, mine goes Detective office, Pet Shop, Custom little office building, and Parisian Restaurant, then probably the Cinema(Which I own but haven't built.)
And I agree with the Restaurant not fitting all that well.
That stairway gap is gonna sorta disrupt the flow of the buildings, won't it?

So how do you build mocs, design something with this program and then get the parts from bricklink? I'm guessing you will have to buy it from different sellers, I doubt one has everything. It all just seems so tedious.

Wish lego had a custom set feature, just design something, send them the file and then they send you all the parts with print instructions and everything. This being lego, it would be so expensive but so nice.

They used to do this with LDD. The parts were incredibly limited and it was horrifically overpriced.
>>

I had it that way initially, but it looked a bit too blocky. I may go for a 1x1 barrel or nosecone piece though, to reduce the blockiness. Thanks!

Make it in ldd, and you can output a parts list that brick link will read and auto find a store with those parts

Fiddling with the parts i have is the start of 99% of all mocs. At some occasions i just started off drawing something and that i then wanted to make out of LEGO and start looking for solutions. But most of the time I'll take a neat part and think "wow, maybe this could work as an X" and work from there. Then just oldschool draw some parts of it out so i remember and can keep track of what parts i need.

Ofcourse you could use ldd, but for me pen paper and live parts are quicker. But i have used the former to finalize bigger projects.

Since most mocs start off as just using whatever i have at hand, i generally don't have to order 9000+ parts from bricklink except when it's for a building.

> I still enjoy the lego games, people give them shit because they pretty much have the same gameplay but I don't give a fuck to be honest, fun little games.

I played the original trilogy game and I got burnt out on it fairly quickly. Right now I'm playing Marvel Heroes and I'm having way more fun, just because of the variety of characters and villain mechanics. The story has more of a sprawl to it, and it's obviously not slave to an existing property, hence the story about the Cosmic Bricks.

Also, how could anyone not love the colossal Lego helicarrier?

I got detective's office and parisian restaurant and all the minifigs have classic face. I don't understand why, looks weird.
>>
>>6060193
Every modular building has classic faces.
>>
>>6060196

Yeah but why.
I don't get it.

It's nice to have some classic minifig heads but it looks weird with the super modern detailed buildings.
>>
>>6060202
Did you know that you can take the heads off and replace them with other heads

Yeah man but I'm using all the other heads for my other minifigures, it's not like you get extra.
I haven't learned how to use bricklink so I can't just buy a bunch of heads.

Anyway, I'm not that bothered by it, I just find it a little weird.
>>
>>6060193
It's appealing directly to adult collectors. The : ) face gives the modulars a classic feel to contrast with the intricate details and advanced techniques.

At least that's how it feels to me. I don't particularly care either way, although it is nice to have a constant source of classic faces in the modern age of LEGO.
>>
My job is having a 50% sale for employees. What sets should I get? I was thinking about getting a tub of bricks or maybe one of the elves dragons.
>>
>>6060209
Lovely dew on those blades. Is that the A-Wing from the TIE Advanced set?
>>
>>6060218

Yes
>>
>>6060217
What themes are you interested in?

If you were already interested in the Elves sets, you should probably get one or two dragons. Maybe get some fantasy-inspired CMFs, or a small pack of Nexo lava monsters.
>>
>>6060217
Get an Elves set and a ton of Creator sets>>6060218
>>
>store is having -30% on Nexo this weekend
>I also have a 5€ discount coupon for them

So, should I get Infernox for around 16€? I only really want the queen-fig, but it's the only first year Nexo-set I really want, outside of Fortrex which I can get cheaper from other sources.

Well, that and Merlok's library if I ever get Fortrex but I'd have to buy it from S@H since it's not sold here
>>
>>6060223
Did not mean to quote the other guy
>>
>>6060222
I mostly like to build castles. That's why I was thinking elves. I have a few of the nexo knights sets. Can't go wrong with lava monsters.

>>6060223
That is basically the plan at the moment.
>>
>>6060224
Go ahead and get it. Of all the Nexo Knights sets, Infernox Captures The Queen is the easiest to integrate with most other themes.

Need a fantasy creature for your classic knights to slay? You got one. Want a demon from hell to wreak havoc on your modular street? It's even made of fire and shit. Got some spaceships? Guess what it's an alien.

If you don't want to keep Infernox built, at least now you have some good parts to built fiery terrain, as well as some joints to build mechs or creatures with.

Plus hoverhorses are cool.

Do you still see Mixels Series 7 where you work? That medieval tribe makes for good castle fodder.

Or buy King Pig's Castle. It's a neat build and it comes with a bunch of monsters for your knights to beat up.
>>
>>6060242
They might have the older mixels. I'm pretty sure they don't have pig castles. What about the minecraft castle? I haven't really heard much negative about the whole minecraft theme. There hasn't been a ton of talk about it at all it seems.
>>
>>6060249
This thing? I don't know, I haven't been paying much attention to this year's Minecraft lineup myself. Jang might be able to help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgsFysT1u8Y

I don't think a lot of people here buy the Minecraft sets. When they do, it's for the cute houses and the neat terrain, for which I have not seen any complaints.

I can't think of an effective way of searching Bricklink, and I don't want to scroll through fifty pages of parts, so I'll try asking here: does anyone know if the new-ish double molded legs come in red with yellow feet? Or failing that, if there's red hips and legs with printed yellow shoes?

Basically, I want to replace The Flash's hips and legs, since I always thought he looked bad with no boots.
