Whats on your "Buy" lists, Anon's? Edition
Old Thread: >>5425401
Why a 2nd Onslaught?
I got my Bruticus complete, so now I guess I'm looking for Skylynx a bunch of the TW stuff which won't be out until ???, that Plat. Hot Rod set since I don't own one yet, and Liokaiser.
Just ordered the only 3 combaticons I wanted got galvatronus so now I'm just gonna wait for Wheeljack, hound, and skylynx for that combiner.
Outside of CW I'm excited for the new decepticon warrior class stuff. Especially Thunderhoof.
Waiting for Thunderhoof as well but I'm wondering if Takara will do a magical voyager version.
No, he's just reaching for the heavens.
TR Fort Max
TR Astrotrain (we all know its coming)
TR Blurr, Hardhead and Skull Cruncher
CW Skylynx, Wheeljack and Trailbreaker
too many others to list
One more Rescue Bot minicons. This time it's Growl the K9-bot.
Alright, am I the only one who thinks this looks like a gangly mess now more than ever? His loaded g1 diaper is too weirdly shaped and needs to be moved up about an inch and the chest needs to compact in some way so that it's not just the front of the vehicle. WTF went so horribly wrong?
The hound-cycle is cool but unfortunately, they went cheap on the paint. You could see that the promotional prototype has extra paint apps all over.
There's one more minicon dog that's tied to a fire station playset. Don't really feel like buying that one yet because it has the same ass-squirter gimmick as the fairy dragon I posted previously.
I know it's probably lame, but I have the Takara "Legends" Armada "Starscream Super Mode" (aka Armada Thundercracker) figure on preorder. I just like the way the colors look with this mould.
Its nostalgia that gives anyone interest, just a really big head that when clicked gives a tech spec read out.
Now the newer ones omit the tech spec, ok if they can focus the engineering on the body perhaps we may see decent transformations, because the heads are crap, hardly any articulation and hardly a transformation at all.
Only reason I'm considering making a purchase of the line is because powermaster prime/ginrai and galvatron have lowered my expectations on an mp of either
Pretty much that. Despite the Masterpieces and Combiner Wars being really nice, I'm kind of sick of early G1 (especially seeing the same dozen or so G1 characters). It's nice to see stuff that hasn't been rehashed/redone to death.
I so hope they do a new Mindwipe and maybe legends class version of the Decepiticon/Autobot Clones to really get that me at 5 years old nostalgia.
Plan to get more MP stuff. As well as the following:
MMC Commotus, Anarchus, etc
R.I.D. Fracture, Quillfire, and Thunderhof. (Misspelled for reviewer accuracy)
CHUG/CW/TR:Almost everything. Lol
Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors: Sky Lynx. Grand Galvatron. Maybe Takara Bruticus, depending on colour pictures; maybe Victorion, depending on in-hand pictures.
Masterpiece: Possibly Exhaust, Blue Bluestreak, and G2 Sideswipe, depending on how much money I have after the combiners. Unite Warriors: Skullcruncher, Rewind, Crashbash.
Q-Transformers: Got most of what I want on preorder, so it depends what they have coming up.
3P: Spartan looks damn tempting. If I can get my hands on some other Wreckers first, I might get him for my Wreckers display.
Neither of those is doing much for me.
I think it's time we all just accepted that Ironhide has a horrible, impossible design.
(also where, exactly, would you put the hip-panels if not on his hips)
He's tons of fun, it's cool to see the gimmicks they crammed into him. And he's pretty articulate. I have a Big Convoy and Shining Lio Convoy set up as the co leaders of a mix of BW BWII and BW neo characters.
Well, Let’s take Jesus off the dashboard.
Got enough on his mind. Sure he's a shellformer but he's a surprisingly fun toy. Of course in mammoth mode, articulation is practically non-existent, but I really love the robot mode. It's like Optimus became a member of Gwar.
Though the combined mode just as a few issues. The figures by themselves are perfectly fine, but the connections for combining sometimes don't go in all the way. They stay together, but look like they won't if that makes any sense.
I keep looking at eBay listings for astrotrain and octane/tankor, are those molds worth picking up? I kind of want to get some iteration of them, I especially like the shuttle and plane modes.
I liked astrostrain, but it's not incredible. Its a solid figure in all 3 molds.
I mean you could also wait for the titan wars voyager Astrotrain.
I didn't hate octane, but he's too small for his own good.
No, don't do it. The robot mode is awful with a sunken in neck and wonky arms, and the truck mode can barely roll cuz all the plane propellers face downward near the ground in that mode.
damn the canadian dollar.
The sensible thing would be for Hasbro to give us white/purple and let Takara do the cartoon colours, which they'll do no matter what.
So, of course, we'll get grey/purple from both. And Takara's will have more paint, but it'll look ridiculous because they'll apply a G1 animation model paint scheme to a toy not designed for it, but Geewunners will buy it because muh paint.
Generations definitely went for different vehicle mode than hovering boat thing.
Well, there WERE rumors of a Scourge in the line. With that comparison image, it probably wouldn't take much to remold that into both Astrotrain and Scourge.
nb4 they don't do Astrotrain at all and just turn it to Scourge.
While that does sound tempting, I don't trust Hasbro with making a good Victory Leo that combines with a new Star Saber after the recent Leader figures have been such a disappointment.
Whats disappointing about them? Galvatron, Blaster, and Soundwave look pretty damn good. It's only PM Prime that looks "meh", and PM Prime always looked "meh" to me. Original G1 design is still best after all this time. PM isn't that bad overall, it's certainly no abortion of taste like Bayformers designs, but honestly, if they never made another PM Prime it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
nb4 "Hollow forearms" when even hundred dollar+ 3P toys still have hollow forearms too.
I literally have no issue with hollow arms for fold away hands. Its the fear of the wrist joint being weak that worries me. No matter what I do I can't get my CW mirage's wrist to be sturdy enough for anything.
One place where I did love grey is RID Jhiaxus - who Generations Jhiaxus tried, but failed, to emulate - since they gave him two highly contrasting shades of grey that didn't blend with the orange.
But that wouldn't work for cartoon Astrotrain, so...
PM Prime looks really disappointing, but I'm at least giving it a chance until I see a gallery or review.
UM has looks pretty nice, but has an awful back thanks to a section of the cab being really hollow, plus he can't hold his weapons.
Seekers/Jetfire have a really lazy transformation. Having a whole chunk of the jet just having off the back is terrible, and the wings look really bad in robot mode.
Blaster looks ok, even if the torso looks weird from the side thanks to the cassette gimmick.
Soundwave has a weird face, terrible panel on the chest (should have gone with a new look instead of aping the old look with a chest like that), and Boombox mode looks awful, at least it kind of works with Blaster.
I thought Galvatron was a voyager? Anyway, his arms being hollow isn't an issue since they do something.
PM Prime has a chunk of the trailer hanging off his arm, and the arm is also hollow. If they had to make the arm hollow, they should have used the trailer panel to cover that up.
>soundwaves face looks weird
I think whoever took that in-hand pic just forgot to fully push the helmet down. The cad render looks fine.
Hey /toy/, my birthday's approaching soon, and I can't decide what to buy myself. So I'm coming to you guys for some opinions. Got a few options brewing here.
I've narrowed it down to these, more or less. It's a mix of official and 3P stuff. I can probably afford one of these, maybe two if it's some of the cheaper options. Maybe.
MP Starsaber just because he looks fucking awesome. No attachement to the character otherwise.
MMC's Hexatron, because Sixshot is cool and theres no modern day Sixshot other than 3P stuff.
Takara Devastator. Because I don't have one. Would probably keep them in individual bot mode too, since even as a kid I usually kept Devy in his component bot modes rather than his Devy mode.
Maketoys Mobine Paladin/Chaos. Because I think he looks cool.
2 of the Fansproject Dinobots. Probably the Not-Sludge and Not-Slag.
Another option would just be a few of the IDW Collection hardcovers, because I'm just getting into the new comics, got 2 volumes of them right now and like'em so far.
Oh shit, forgot 2 options. MMC's Commotus and Anarchus. Because the characters they're based off of look cool, Commotus is the fucking Metal Slug tank, and the idea of an electric chair 'bot sounds cool to me.
Computron's not that big a deal since the leaked images already show off most of the new things he gets. The only thing missing is more images of Strafe.
Leokaiser still has a ton more stuff worth looking forward, since we still don't know if he comes with all those combiner weapons, and if he has unique hand/feet parts.
Just ordered my first Transformers toy, MMC Spartan. Do any of you guys know of a good Megatron figure that scales with him? I couldn't find any good IDW Megatrons at all, so I'll take any design as long as it scales and looks good.
I'm pretty sure the blue repaint we're getting from SP is gonna be Thunderwing.
Hegemon and Apollyon are your only choices right now. Bold Forms' Gladius should be releasing soon using the IDW -ation series look. I think either MMC or Maketoys will also be making their own Megatron. All of these except Hegemon are MP scaled though. This should really be going to the 3P thread though.
Star saber or hexatron, each have very unique transformations and due to animation like accuracy have plenty of gimmicks, saber is also big for an mp and looks good in any mode, can't say the same for hexatron some of his modes are half assed but still decpticon ninja consultant and courageous autobot commander/best swordsman are some of the best
So what other characters could be remolds of TR Galvatron?
How's it going Transformers General?
I was contemplating on buying LG Arcee, LG Chromia, and LG Blackarachnia
I was also debating on the other two fembots, but am not really sold on them since they seemed kinda plain in the paintjob department.
Although I kinda really do want them also.
Aye, they're just as bad as Funpub.
You know what I liked about the Hartman cons? Actual, original characters as exclusives. It felt cool having a new character introduced in the mythos. Sometimes they were big players like Shokaract, sometimes they were minor grunt like Vicegrip. Either way, it was cool to have something fresh over some G1/BW/comic character in a body that doesn't look right.
Giraffe? I really like Arcee though, I have her Hasbro one, but been longing for the Takara one. And I like pink.
I heard the major issue with Blackarachnia was her neck gap. Did anyone come up with mod to cover that?
This didn't work with mine, it was too stiff, so I just swaped the inner torso bits with a spare animated BA.
Ehhh, it's a bit of a stretch. i think we'll probably just get a deluxe Scourge. They won't just do animal Decepticons I'm sure, they're going to need to throw in things they can remold a lot too.
Wouldn't a headmaster Scourge work out really well though?
He'd be in similar scale with the latest Cyclonus and Galvatron and the helmets on the voyagers could easily be his laser thing.
I will say, while I don't think Galvatron is disappointing, personally I love him, but I'm just a tad annoyed about the jet kibble. I don't care that he turns into a jet, because personally I don't mind the "eh, whatever" alt-modes, but what did get to me was the fact that it creates a big backpack kibble that also gets in the way of robot mode and cannon form. It's just that they made it too big. I think this could have been solved if they made the nosecone shorter, to make it less intrusive as kibble in other forms.
That being said, I do at least like the jetmode, it kind of reminds me of Animated Megatron with the cannon underneath the cockpit.
I spoke to one of the reps at NYCC, he said we can see them on shelves in Fall. However, since it looks like CW is wrapping up with nothing else to put on shelves we haven't already seen, and the Sky Lynx wave probably coming out in April, I'd say it'd be a safe bet to say Titan Returns will come out in the summer. Naturally including Galvatron, as he is Wave 1 with Sentinel Prime.
I also hope there's some somewhat interesting backstory like in the bio as to why he's a headmaster now. If I remember correctly, in Rebirth he thought the idea of merging with organics was disgusting, so I'd like to see if they give a reason as to why he caved.
Though I'm not counting on it. Better start working on my headcanon, I guess.
>Headmasters is just a cheap tactic to make weak Transformers stronger.
>You only beat me because you're a Headmaster!
>If I had someone to HEAD ON! with...
Why is your headmaster still attached?
But you can do that by yourself
>Don't want to.
But I still don't understand you! Why are you combined all the time?!
>I'm Percy and Pierre
It looks like it might.

Well, getting Energon Mirage, Sharkticon, and Cybertron Giant Planet Mini-Con team or redecoes of them means I have at least one of each naval vehicle Transformer mold outside of G1 and Rescue Bots. After that, likely just cute girl robots and whatever new things that get announced look cool.
Sweet Jesus, MP cars are tiny.
Fuck that bullshit, you stupid faggot.
All of the Hartman characters were god-awful OC Don't Steal shitstains that no one gave a fuck about and continue to not give a fuck about.
Yes, Fun Club wasn't perfect and they fucked some things up. But they did God's work GOD DAMN IT providing characters Hasbro would NEVER EVER EVER fucking touch.
God help us if we got the Hartmans and their bullshit again; the convention sets will sell for shit and their fiction will be worse than Walkie's cassette bot strips.
Alright, I'm looking at some of these comparisons and it's funny how sometimes the MP is taller and sometimes the Alternators is. Must really be the Fairlady then.
I honestly kind of want to pick up a few Alternators. Anyone here have experience with the quadraped Ravage mold? It looks kind of wonky but the concept just seems so cool that I'm drawn to it.
The alternators are going to be a touch bigger, and I think MP Tracks especially is a bit small (he even looks tiny next to the fairlady), and not all of the Alternators are scaled with each other, but on the whole it shouldn't look too weird displaying them together.
I just dug a tub out of storage to go through, actually.
1. Energon Scorponok
I dig this guy, but i wish he were a bit better. Some locking tabs to help hold his alt modes(particularly the less than convincing "jet" mode) would have been great. Still, he's a nicely articulate bruiser. Looks good beside RTS Lugnut.
2. Bag of Seekers
Robot Masters Seeker trio, plus Energon Starscream and Universe Skywarp. I'm glad i own the Robot Masters guys, just for historical sake, but they're kind of crap. Skywarp is decent, being a recolour of Stormjet from BM... his hover mode always made me want to try my hand at making a blaster form for him, but it never solidified. Energon Starscream is still great, though. Well, ok, mostly great. He could use a knee position that 's not either straight up and down or BAM 90 degrees.
3. Classics Megatron
Timely, with it's re-release in new colours. Man, I forgot how this works... shit. There. No... There... no. Oh, the wing tabs. THERE. He's still a great gun(though just a bit too small for my grownup ass sausage fingers anymore).
4. Cybertron Sideways
I'd been looking for this guy. He's such a great toy.
5.? Bunch of Dinobots
For some reason, I have three packs of still sealed on card dinobots. They're two-packs with what looks like Armada packaging, but they're labled as just "Transformers: Dinobots". I don't remember when or where I bought these guys, I just remember very clearly there was a specific reason I was keeping them on card, something about them that was special.
All of the alternators match perfectly with each other, they were all 1/24 scale alt modes.
They also scale excellently with MP-1 Optimus, they don't really scale well with anything else, though, except the Human Aliance cars.
Mainly Onslaught and Sky Lynx.
On the fence if I'll get the UW version of Bruticus as well, waiting to see better images of what their Blast Off looks like.
If I do then the CW version will become a stand in for one of the other Combatirecolors. Like Ruination.
>a bunch of folded up car parts
looked on ebay and randy is pretty cheap... should we begin the randy challenge? everyone buy a randy and if you can remove it from packaging, transform it and insert the gun properly without anything snapping you win???
I assume you mean the gaps? They don't bother me because so many other toys have it even worse. I also appreciate how the car parts come together to simulate a curved feline back.
I don't have the biggest budget either. I found mine used on ebay for $40. It's the most I've spent on a single bot.
He's honestly pretty fun. The neck articulation is particularly nice, but he's pretty posable over all. I usually display him doing a cat stretch and I've also seen people have him in a sitting pose. He's definitely more articulated than, say... Sky Lynx, and bigger too, if that helps you make the decision. Not dissing Sky Lynx btw, I'll get him too for sure if I can find him at retail price.
I think I'll pick one up then somewhere down the road. Ironically enough I didn't really get into Alternators back in the day because I was young and if I had to pick up something for $20, I was going to pick up the one with the electronics. Of course nowadays even $45 won't get you any electronics. I definitely regret not getting in on the line.
So I got Groove hoping one of my legends could ride him... turns out he's a freaking tiny. Makes a good skateboard though, so there's that.
Anyone tried making a bot ride on UW Groove?
The mustache brothers.
It's not a cheap hobby and I don't expect it to be but sometimes I get a little mad at how much I can spend on a single figure but it's usually more like "fuck why did I buy that? All this new shit is coming out soon and I could have gotten 5 deluxes for the price of this one old figure". I have a very specific list of stuff I want so that I don't overspend: Female characters, anything with a base mode, 86 movie characters, stuff I liked when I was a kid, combiners. Unfortunately most of the things on that list are big ticket items.
Not really. What are some good Leader class toys you'd recommend?
I mean, combiners are one thing, but otherwise I really wouldn't get a Leader class unless it does something cool that the smaller guys can't, like the convoy trailer to store deluxe cars.
>that feel when you find an Omega Prime for $90 Canadian in a toycon and you thought it was loose but complete but instead he actually still has the boxes and the Magnus of the set is the Car Robots Japanese version
Luckily the all the tires are still there even if 2 cracked but I already fixed it with my plasticweld and that they're both $90 with the manuals and the missiles. Oh and the joints on them are still tight so that's another bonus for me.
They've got some issues
Megatron: terrible knee articulation, no ankle tilts, nonremovable fusion cannon (that's pretty bad in itself) and low shoulders
Ultra Magnus: no wrist or waist swivels, bad hands that have trouble holding things and no ankle tilts
Magnus is the better of the two though.
Whats wrong with his knees? The joints are nice and tight.
Magnus should've had molded fists with standardized weapon pegs though, I'll give you that. But you should be able to futureshine his hands if yours is having trouble gripping stuff.
I disagree on the Wrist Swivels not being important. Anything with a melee weapon, especially as iconic as Magnus with Hammer has become since animated, needs wrists.
Course hands that can actually hold the weapon in question would have been above wrist articulation , but we didn't get that either.
The wrist swivels wouldn't add much too him for the hammer if you take the blue arm armor in to account. At least you can make the hammer shorter. And honestly The second gun attached is unnecessary especially the way it's shaped.
Anything not the menasor/optimus truck type.
I have a preference for the superion mold (despite re-uses of it being less than stellar) but the defensor/bruticus works so well, skylynx will be great as well
Here is a video review of skylynx.
Note that my speakers are broken
I'm kind of surprised that Sky reign doesn't use animal type transformers as limbs instead of vehicles, cause with skylynx being the body and the lion head on Sky Reign it looks like they were going to go with an animal theme but gave up
more or less they just wanted to honor both modes of the original Sky Lynx
I don't think at any point hey were planing beast limbs.
Pretty blatant price gouging due to it being a collector-oriented item, since it's essentially a deluxe. Even factoring in more paint, diecast, or a higher parts count than usual, should be no more than $30 - $40 or so, tops.
Twas a crime that the regular release didn't come with the g1-toy-style battlemask. If it had, and if the windows had been dark smoke tinted rather than blue, I probably would have bought one.
>should be no more than $30 - $40 or so, tops.
Importing mine at release costs $41 plus shipping. Really not a bad price considering there are plenty of unlicensed, non-transforming action figures that are much less complex that cost the same or more. But for some reason, MP Bee will always be the target of the "$50 basic" meme.
Currently, Silverbolt-type molds are the best overall, though the Onslaught remold of Hotspot improves upon the original Hotspot design by being both more secure and not having the fire engine ladder crotch.
Skylynx looks like it'll probably be right up there with Superion unless something goes horribly wrong.
Motormaster-type bodies are the worst of the different types. The first runs (Motormaster and Optimus) have hip ratchet problems, which were fixed in the re-release with Battlecore Optimus (and the Motormaster that was issued with Battlecore, plus the Takara ones). However, they're still top heavy compared to the others, making them harder to pose. They're the C's in a line of B+ to A+ molds.
It's weird that they're gouging on the MP cars, because the Datsuns were similarly overpriced, but the other releases like Prime, Grimlock and Starscream were cheap compared to their import prices.
I got the TRU Prowl and he was what, $50? Which is higher but not unreasonable. I don't know what's going on that's making them jack up the prices like this. I bought MP Grimlock when he got his TRU release and I'm pretty sure he cost only $10 more than Bee. Didn't Starscream cost around that when he got rereleased this year?
I'm probably just going to buy the KO. I didn't like Bee enough to import him and I damn sure don't like him enough to pay $65 dollarydoos.
Charging more than is necessary for an item you know people can't get elsewhere? That's price gouging.
Sorry you're so #triggered. Why don't you go blog about it at #firstworldproblems? Nobody's allowed to have opinions unless they're a swollen bellied African child with flies in their anus right?
Piss off faggot.
That could be true as well. Econ 101 libertarians are literally subhuman.
>that toy you don't even know why you ended up buying
What's her name, /tfg/?
Prowl's MSRP was $70 when he first hit TRU, but he went on sale multiple times thanks in part to being released around the holidays. I already had the Takara version, but picked up a TRU one for $36 during one of the sales.
I have all the CW G1 bots. The only one I kind of go "Why do I have you?" is Sunstreaker, and thats only because Sunstreaker is the one Transformer I've always done that with. He's always offensively yellow to me.
At least Bumblebee usually has a lot of black to him. Sunstreaker I feel never breaks his yellow up enough for me.
I was going to make an offhand "inb4" about some autist getting triggered over our incorrect use of "gouging".
You see, the implication is that, we, toy collectors, DO see toys as a required resource for life, hence the hyperbole of referring to overpricing as "gouging". You moron.
I think that anon might have misread what he was replying to.
Lugnut's honestly mostly perfect. He doesnt have a real weapon, just some smaller ones sprinkled around him (like the hidden missiles in his wings), and some find his shoulders weird. But that shit is negligible.
Maybe he'll make G.B. Blackrock into a Headmaster just to be a bastard. In the comic, Blackrock was just discovered to be Cybertronian, and Galvy took pleasure in greeting him as a 'brother', despite Blackrock's denial of not being human. Could work...
But Galvatron's headmaster is Nucleon. Also, not every toy is reflecting the comics. While Galvatron could get updated design-wise to match the toy, Cyclonus didn't become a combiner, and Swindle was killed off. So I'm not sure. Maybe they will, I have no idea.
Weird question, anyone wanna trade a pair of black perfect effects hands and feet for a pair of blue ones?
I wanna buy the perfect effects set for Optimus, but I think black hands and feet look better... But I don't want to spend like $100 and it up with an extra pair of hands and feet.
What ever happened to this?
Seems like a concept for a 3-step (or whatever number) changer. It's like those one-step ones, but each half of the body gets it own mechanism.
Either way, it would have been a brick and had about 1 paint app.
Universe Sideswipe would be so cool if it wasn't for that awful headsculpt.
This guy.... I don't know why I have him still really. I got him for christmas when I was like.. idk 6 or something. Never played with it desu. Just kinda sits on a shelf covered in dust.
