Alright, am I the only one who thinks this looks like a gangly mess now more than ever? His loaded g1 diaper is too weirdly shaped and needs to be moved up about an inch and the chest needs to compact in some way so that it's not just the front of the vehicle. WTF went so horribly wrong?

Pretty much that. Despite the Masterpieces and Combiner Wars being really nice, I'm kind of sick of early G1 (especially seeing the same dozen or so G1 characters). It's nice to see stuff that hasn't been rehashed/redone to death.

Whats disappointing about them? Galvatron, Blaster, and Soundwave look pretty damn good. It's only PM Prime that looks "meh", and PM Prime always looked "meh" to me. Original G1 design is still best after all this time. PM isn't that bad overall, it's certainly no abortion of taste like Bayformers designs, but honestly, if they never made another PM Prime it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

PM Prime looks really disappointing, but I'm at least giving it a chance until I see a gallery or review.

UM has looks pretty nice, but has an awful back thanks to a section of the cab being really hollow, plus he can't hold his weapons.

Seekers/Jetfire have a really lazy transformation. Having a whole chunk of the jet just having off the back is terrible, and the wings look really bad in robot mode.

Blaster looks ok, even if the torso looks weird from the side thanks to the cassette gimmick.

Soundwave has a weird face, terrible panel on the chest (should have gone with a new look instead of aping the old look with a chest like that), and Boombox mode looks awful, at least it kind of works with Blaster.

PM Prime has a chunk of the trailer hanging off his arm, and the arm is also hollow. If they had to make the arm hollow, they should have used the trailer panel to cover that up.

Hey /toy/, my birthday's approaching soon, and I can't decide what to buy myself. So I'm coming to you guys for some opinions. Got a few options brewing here.

I've narrowed it down to these, more or less. It's a mix of official and 3P stuff. I can probably afford one of these, maybe two if it's some of the cheaper options. Maybe.

MP Starsaber just because he looks fucking awesome. No attachement to the character otherwise.

MMC's Hexatron, because Sixshot is cool and theres no modern day Sixshot other than 3P stuff.

Takara Devastator. Because I don't have one. Would probably keep them in individual bot mode too, since even as a kid I usually kept Devy in his component bot modes rather than his Devy mode.

Maketoys Mobine Paladin/Chaos. Because I think he looks cool.

2 of the Fansproject Dinobots. Probably the Not-Sludge and Not-Slag.

Another option would just be a few of the IDW Collection hardcovers, because I'm just getting into the new comics, got 2 volumes of them right now and like'em so far.

You know what I liked about the Hartman cons? Actual, original characters as exclusives. It felt cool having a new character introduced in the mythos. Sometimes they were big players like Shokaract, sometimes they were minor grunt like Vicegrip. Either way, it was cool to have something fresh over some G1/BW/comic character in a body that doesn't look right.

I don't care that he turns into a jet, because personally I don't mind the "eh, whatever" alt-modes, but what did get to me was the fact that it creates a big backpack kibble that also gets in the way of robot mode and cannon form. It's just that they made it too big. I think this could have been solved if they made the nosecone shorter, to make it less intrusive as kibble in other forms.

That being said, I do at least like the jetmode, it kind of reminds me of Animated Megatron with the cannon underneath the cockpit.

1. Energon Scorponok
I dig this guy, but i wish he were a bit better. Some locking tabs to help hold his alt modes(particularly the less than convincing "jet" mode) would have been great. Still, he's a nicely articulate bruiser. Looks good beside RTS Lugnut.

2. Bag of Seekers
Robot Masters Seeker trio, plus Energon Starscream and Universe Skywarp. I'm glad i own the Robot Masters guys, just for historical sake, but they're kind of crap. Skywarp is decent, being a recolour of Stormjet from BM... his hover mode always made me want to try my hand at making a blaster form for him, but it never solidified. Energon Starscream is still great, though. Well, ok, mostly great. He could use a knee position that 's not either straight up and down or BAM 90 degrees.

3. Classics Megatron
Timely, with it's re-release in new colours. Man, I forgot how this works... shit. There. No... There... no. Oh, the wing tabs. THERE. He's still a great gun(though just a bit too small for my grownup ass sausage fingers anymore).

4. Cybertron Sideways
I'd been looking for this guy. He's such a great toy.

For some reason, I have three packs of still sealed on card dinobots. They're two-packs with what looks like Armada packaging, but they're labled as just "Transformers: Dinobots". Get a reissue Fortmax and then buy a bunch of Micromaster teams, you can usually find them for about $15-20 a set on eBay so that will be really inexpensive. For about $400 you can set up a killer display with just that.

I don't have the biggest budget either. I found mine used on ebay for $40. It's the most I've spent on a single bot.

He's honestly pretty fun. The neck articulation is particularly nice, but he's pretty posable over all. I usually display him doing a cat stretch and I've also seen people have him in a sitting pose. He's definitely more articulated than, say... Sky Lynx, and bigger too, if that helps you make the decision. Not dissing Sky Lynx btw, I'll get him too for sure if I can find him at retail price.

Currently, Silverbolt-type molds are the best overall, though the Onslaught remold of Hotspot improves upon the original Hotspot design by being both more secure and not having the fire engine ladder crotch.

Skylynx looks like it'll probably be right up there with Superion unless something goes horribly wrong.

Motormaster-type bodies are the worst of the different types. The first runs (Motormaster and Optimus) have hip ratchet problems, which were fixed in the re-release with Battlecore Optimus (and the Motormaster that was issued with Battlecore, plus the Takara ones). However, they're still top heavy compared to the others, making them harder to pose. They're the C's in a line of B+ to A+ molds.

I have all the CW G1 bots. The only one I kind of go "Why do I have you?" is Sunstreaker, and thats only because Sunstreaker is the one Transformer I've always done that with. He's always offensively yellow to me.

At least Bumblebee usually has a lot of black to him. Sunstreaker I feel never breaks his yellow up enough for me.

But Galvatron's headmaster is Nucleon. Also, not every toy is reflecting the comics. While Galvatron could get updated design-wise to match the toy, Cyclonus didn't become a combiner, and Swindle was killed off. So I'm not sure. Maybe they will, I have no idea.
