Eh they look pretty bad at first, though I personally like Ekimu and Storm Beast quite a bit, how it generally works with these things is that they end up looking awful in prelims but once we get the actual sets in hand they are fine (Hell I ended up liking skull scorpio last year), so we will see. I would say that these prelims definitely dont look as bad as the skull villain prelims did.

Lava Beast is a cool dragon. He looks dumb because Lego decided to pose him to display functionality rather than to look cool. But he has neat looking sword-wings and I can forgive the lower legs. Probably my favourite along with Quake Beast.

Storm Beast will be the function over form set of the wave and might be cool because of it, but as of now he can go suck dick.

What's really gonna make or break these sets for me is how the head works, I can see a bunch of shit behind the head piece and really hope there isnt some weird function that locks the jaw in an open position, because I think the new upper jaw piece at least looks really cool and if the lower jaw can close over that and also look good I will be quite happy.

I really like the thin look of storm beast with the big claws, some people have complained that they are foot pieces but I feel like that doesnt really matter to me (hell maybe you could pose storm beast as a quadruped if you REALLY wanted to)

Quake beast looks fine, I just have never been a big fan of the bulky sets, I have to wonder if his right arm is some giant hulking purple crystal arm or if its just the angle of the picture.

Toys R Us is clearancing the old Bionicle sets. Not much of a markdown other than Ekimu and Kulta but hey, it's something.

I do want to reuse pieces from the Beasts, the Creatures and other sets to make a small group of elemental monsters, but they won't work for Umarak.

In my canon, Umarak is The Shadowed One, and said monsters work for themselves, for they are [toyspoiler]the Element Lords.[toyspoiler]. Difference being that they're in the Mataverse because my canon skips Bara Magna altogether.

I had a clear view of all 6 of them, except the Lord of Air, and I realized that making him/her into a creature similar to Quetzalcoatl instead of some generic bird monster would be great.

I actually built UtD's lower legs and honestly they don't look too bad from a design standpoint, but are awful from a poseability standpoint, the feet can hardly move back or forward at all (the knee is actually as far forward as it possibly can be in this image, and the technic beams tend to pull apart constantly so I'm not sure how this made it past Lego quality control.

naw i'm still guessing they will never be connected, just like the two halves of the mask are in separate universes.
We'll see the new mask of time (the top half of the mask) but we probably won't see the full mask (both pieces connected)
but it would make sense to have the pieces connect considering they've decided that the new one is the top half, and the old one is the bottom

I've tried washes with various things... water, Pledge with Future, rubbing alcohol... I haven't tried an alcohol wash in resin, but water doesn't work (makes the resin bubble up like hell) and Future doesn't work (doesn't mix). So far the only thing available to me that actually does work is oil paint.

I have seen some experiments people have done with other things, and imitation stained glass paint looks like it's the best option. But I can't find any of that shit in retail stores around me, so I'll have to order it from Dick Blick or some place next time I can buy some stuff.

I'm pretty excited to see where they'll be going with this. Also, the second chapter book mentions reliefs older than even the mask makers that show the temple of time, the elemental creatures, and "unfamiliar writing". Leaving the implications of that last point aside, we already know that the creatures play an important role in the creation of Okoto, so it stands to reason that the temple and mask of time are somehow involved as well.

So, would Kylo Ren be worth it if I picked up a half price Darth Vader too?

I was thinking of just grabbing a Vader and Brickling the head/torso for Kylo, but that is $8-9 without shipping, and I'd think at that point it'd be better to buy the full Kylo and just use the rest for parts.

Why would you want that though? Nostalgia aside, the first wave of bionicle was pretty terrible, build wise. Each set had about 20 huge pieces and no knee, elbow or neck articulation.

I'd want them to update the sets before they re-release them.

Yesterday I discovered that Mahri Hahli had one of her lime hands broken. Today a red one on Maxilos and a dark grey on Kongu. Fuck you lego, what the fuck happened in 2007?

But I really hope that when the Mask of Time becomes essential for the plot they make the toa nostalgia powerhouses, basically updated and CCBS version of their 2001 ones with changes to correspond with their G2 forms more. (Onua having trans purple instead of green for example).

Wow, the new Bionicle are looking wild these days. I remember the craziest looking things i ever got were Makuta/Takanuva set and the Toa Metru Line.

Thanks, hopefully UtD turns out surprising us for the better. I feel like his torso looks odd just because its leaned over so far making it look squat, and the lack of chest printing/stickers (which final will likely have) make it look rather bear.

The head might be good but the choices for the boxart there (bland eye glow with head tilted, mouth agape, and possible everything slightly enlarged) makes it look rather comical when it may look more threatening in person.

That just leaves the legs, which are hopefully some kind of error since clearly the design as they appear on the box does not work at all.

So Storm Beast and Quake Beast have a different leg construction to Lava Beast. I can't tell if QBs is slightly different to SBs or not so I did a mockup of both potential designs.

Anyone else actually like the silver blends on the masks? I really like it along with the trans colors on the gold ones, it really hammers in the concept that the masks aren't complete on their own, design-wise, even if they detract from the aesthetics a little bit.

Lewa, Pohatu, Gali, and Kopaka are all covered in silver so it actually works, and it works on Onua because, like black, isn't really a color. Tahu's covered in gold though, so it sticks out like a sore thumb.

For similar reasons, I don't understand why everyone was bitching about the silver "clashing". If anything, the gold masks clash WAY more because only half the toa are actually gold themed.

The way the bohrok eye interacts with the upper leg shell should work the same as it did on Umarak and they interface completely fine for him, you may have some limitation in getting the leg COMPLETELY straight but the lower leg design clearly is going for a more bent, digitigrade stance, and given the general look of quake beast combined with that, there will never really be much of a reason you need him standing perfectly straight.

Has anyone come up with alternative connections for 2016 Kopaka's shoulders? The default configuration isn't very strong, so I put the shoulders on backwards and ran a 5-length axle through the unity piece. It isn't perfect, but it's an improvement.

glatorian necks are what LOSS uses to connect his feet to his legs, and what your kulta-rex uses to do the same, they're the short structural piece that have the ball joint sticking out the end. In retrospect though, I don't believe the piece will fit where I suggested you put it, so disregard. Still, longer tail, thicker body. Consider hiving him a more bestial hunch by filling out his back with some of the trans orange structural pieces from LOSS currently not in use. Additionally, I'd recommend reversing the position of the torso skeletal piece, for a more theropodal build, by having the hips wider apart than the shoulders.

Aight, so:
I know you feel the urge to stagger the types of ccbs limbs in the tail, but I recommend you avoid doing so and keep the longer ones near the base and the shorter ones without shells near the tip, dinosaur tails get thinner the farther along they are, even in cases of weaponized tails.

Angle the arms so that the upper arms are perpendicular with the body, but the forearms are parallel with it, and have the hands pointing down.

Replace the armor on the upper legs with chest armor plates, probably black like the one you are using for his back, replace his back plate with the trans orange ribcage of kulta that you are using for his chest, replace the chest armor with a thinner armor piece, and if you can, try to expand the torso vertically with smaller pieces rather than horizontally as might be implied by one saying "make it thicker".

With all thses mods, you might have yourself a decent looking kulta-rex
