Old thread is dead.
Which toys are good retools?
Retools that are way better than the original?
Upcoming Astrotrain will be much better than the sentinel
General consensus is that CW Prowl is the best of that mold
Nightbird > arcee
It's late so I can't think of much more, but I fucking love the beast prime Megatron and Ratchet way more than their first molds.
A question, why are people so against non-G1 MP toys?
As much as I love it, I didnt grow up with G1, i was more of a BW and UC kid. and despite how good some of those toys still are, I'd love to have renditions with more articulation that look like the show
Tarantulas was my favorite, but i still havent bought his toy because it doesnt look as cool as the show. I want a better one, with like, poseable claws and ankle tilts, the good stuff. It's not as much of an improvement as G1 MPs, but it's something
Because they feel like anything that isn't a g1 MP is a waste of a slot when there are so many g1 characters in dire need of a good update. I want a fucking g1 Kup already but that probably won't happen, not gonna blame it on Primal though.
>A question, why are people so against non-G1 MP toys?
Some geewuners believe that "slots" for MP releases are a limited resource. To them, releases like Road Rage, Exhaust, or Primal mean that a G1 character like Mirage or Hound "lost" a chance to be released, which is bad because muh childhood. I bet people are butthurt about the new MP Rodimus
>"If only [ character made after 1985 ] hadn't gotten a Masterpiece, Takara would have released a Masterpiece [ 1984/85 character ] right now!"
I would love for Takara to expand the MP line past G1. Primal is a good first step, maybe if we're lucky they can give us an MP Armada OP, which would be in my immediate to buy list.
So here's my gripe, MPs aren't fun toys. They are great to display but they aren't fun, at least not for me. Your mileage may vary. Armada with very few exceptions was an amazing line and a lot of fun. Is it weird that I think an MP of an Armada character would ruin the spirit of Armada? I know there are a few serious misses in that trilogy of toys but for the most part it was an amazing line and most, not everyone but most characters looked correct. Beast Wars was a fucking mess, g1 was a fucking mess, give me some show accurate characters of those guys first please.
Armada suffers from similar issues BW does, alot of the character is sacrificed but instead of kibble, it's shoehorned in gimmicks. Armada was a mediocre line filled with unposable bricks which shamed good designs, and could go for a makeover with modern engineering.
What are some toys that are considered "essential" that you don't have? What are your reasons for not having them? I'm only just now getting one of the Classics Voyager OP figures after years of collecting.
this one anon has a chop shop collection, it actually look pretty cool. collections based on obsecure characters are neat
ROTF Leader Optimus. Leader class figures tend to be too complex for me. It's not that I can't do them, but when I pick up a transformer I want a nice satisfying conversion; not a post-graduate engineering student's final exam. Plus Leader Class toys are ridiculously expensive here. Voyagers are too, which is why Don't have Classics Voyager Prime either.
Where do you eurofags buy your transformers from anyway ? Kapow is ok, but a bit pricy. BBTS's shipping is buttrapey, amazon.com occasionally has some semi interesting stuff...
Prices on ebay are totally retarded. Didnt it use to be the place to get shit cheap ?
NZFag here. I get most of my shit from the store but other times I'll get them from BBTS or Amazon. Even with assrape shipping, the Combaticons and Scattershot only wound up being $10 more tthan the local cost would be if I waited. We often get shit distribution, so I didn't want to risk being stuck with shit-chest Bruticus.
Armada Optimus got to the second place in the fan vote.
Even Dai Atlas got to the fourth place and he was in a single episode that was never aired. Altough he was the last autobot leader of G1
So I'd say the reason why people don't care as much about beast wars and such is because everything about it just looked awful.
Early CG combined with awkward skin flap shellformers.
Same goes for energon. It looked awful.
Armada's cartoon didn't try to pull off shitty CG and I guess that's why it's more popular.
I was glad when they made the Brave masterpieces. Not because of nostalgia since I never saw the show as a kid, but because it's something that looks good. Rather than being a mangled animal with metal bits sticking out of it. Or a bloated potato like grand convoy.
Me too actually! i was kinda embarrassed so I didnt say..
It was how the show went that put me off beast wars, I'm not really a comedic kinda guy and they really push the spotlight on that, the cg was meh of course but it was how the show went that made me dislike them.
Of course times change, I'm debating on chasing up an ultra class megatron (the takara trans metal is tempting) or waiting in an mp.
UC price was fine the way he was, glad to get another prime than my first megatron as a kid.
>, I'm not really a comedic kinda guy and they really push the spotlight on that
Did you watch after season 1? because Season 1 tried too hard to be funny. That aspect is downplayed in the later seasons though
I thought it ended (when it first aired) at season one with primal dying and all, thought it made impact.
Wasn't until I randomly caught a glimpse of prime meeting prime that I literally screaned OH SHIT WHAT DID I MISS
I own the box set now, I'm glad it was toned down, but I know for a fact the younger me wouldn't of tolerated it past season one.
All I wanted was robots shooting each other and plot twist, not primal humans beating on on stupid waspinator and then making him king, shit was stupid to me.
Yeah I was an edgy little shit when I was young.
That king thing only happens after Depthcharge, Rampage, Tigerhawk, and Dinobot II all die, and Megatron kills Inferno and Quickstrike. And the protohumans use Quickstrike and Inferno's body parts as tools.
Beast Wars MPs probably got chosen over doing Armada or any other series because the designs are a lot more different from G1 compared to the other options. I think the designers wanted to stretch their range a bit more. Optimus Primal not getting any higher probably isn't due to lack of popularity, but because the old figure was pretty close to what people would want already, where as Armada Optimus and DaiAtlas were bricks. A lot of people were satisfied with the latest release of the '96 Optimus toy with the new head. Its unfortunate that Primal has to be the first MP BW figure, because Dinobot, Cheetor, or Megatron likely would've been more exciting. But the lead hero in a series kinda has to start off an MP line by virtue of how the market works.
It was. The original plan was pretty elaborate, and involved the G1 coneheads being reactivated to help Megatron attack the Maximals. Everything had to be finished last minute because the writers were expecting a fourth season, but it ended up being Beast Machines.
>g1 coneheads reactivated
Christ, wouldn't that fuck up the timeline, I can understand playing with sparks from the g1bots but getting the coneheads themselves up and running?
How would they help anyway other than bigger than the opposition, would they be sentient at least?
It's basically sort of fanwank to explain why the coneheads didn't appear until G1Season 2. Back in the 90's when people obsessed over the details of what little fiction we had, one theory as to here the coneheads came from is that the Decepticons found them on their ship. so having them up and running and then stuck on the Nemesis when it crashes would explain why they weren't around in the Ark when all the other Decepticons came back online.
I think the idea with the timeline is that it's all predestined. Like how the Maximals found an escape shuttle on the ark. If they never stole that, the Autobots wouldn't have had to struggle to get the Ark up and running.
Damn I'd of liked this fankwank, but then again g1 is more toy commercial than story, not really needed.
The thought is appreciated though, to try such a thing, kinda wished ghost starscream had more screen time too
except that BW was never pure G1 cartoon. It mixed in a lot of elements from the comics, which don't really mesh well with the cartoon, such as Primus. No matter how much bullshit and lies Hasbro throws in to say there's some multiverse, Primus has no role or existence int he G1 toon. Cybertron is simply a machine world built on top of an asteroid and Unicron was a WMD that went rogue. They never bothered with a pure toon side until season 3, and even what they did show contradicts the comic version.
I don't have either. Optimus' color scheme never really did it for me, and MP-10, while a classic and objectively a great figure, is a bit too uninteresting for me to spend a premium on.
The only reason I got the classics voyager was because I wanted to see what the hype was about and someone was selling the United Black Optimus for about 60 so I figured what the hell. I much prefer the NP color scheme and I own about 2 different versions of NP anyway so I might as well.
only got this far.
May get the original waspinator as a passenger. Hopefully they make a waspinator-sword or something.
I'm actually really excited for Beast Wars Masterpieces.
Or rather, Masterpiece Dinobot.
The only others that would interest me are Inferno and Terrorsaur.
As much as I love Dinobot, I don't see how even Takara can get a Raptor to transform into a show accurate robot mode Dinobot that doesn't involve some form of subspace or mass shifting.
Beast Hunter retools are extremely polarizing.
You either love everything or hate everything.
I think takara did a better job with the colors on most of them.
Out of the few I owned that were just retools it went Ratchet, Megs, Wheeljack, then Soundwave. The new kibble on Wheeljack and Soundwave really hurt them. At least we got a ravage from that Soundwave.
True that. I before i knew what the takara version looked like i was going to get haabros. But then i saw the red light piping and that he was a decepticon and i was sold.
>mfw those at Allspark will defend this dreck
>they still shouldn't be red
Oh, great, I miss this argument
Looks awesome. The head and deco on the chest make it look not at all like Superion and Betatron despite all 3 being mostly to significantly red.
The head looks fantastic! The mockup looks to be swapping the arms hand / foot accessories for the legs, so that the legs have red feet instead of black and the arms have black hands instead of red.
>The mockup looks to be swapping the arms hand / foot accessories for the legs, so that the legs have red feet instead of black and the arms have black hands instead of red.
Hey cool. Thanks for telling us what we can already see.
One anon said that maybe G2 Superion has golden arm because it's powered up, like Gene from God Hand
That single post is the one reason I want to buy G2 CW Superion
>I imagine that Hunter Ratchet and pic related are some dimension jumping, alternate-universe, evil autobots.
Neat idea, anon!
It would be even better if there was a Slicer repaint of BH Wheeljack!
My favorite was Dreadwing. Both the US version and the TAV repaint were super cheap!
>mfw TAV Dreadwing nosedived off the shelf and his antenna broke
BH retools aren't used in the show btw, if that's what you're thinking.
Though, the green on Hasbro Ratchet may be referencing that one episode where Ratchet was high on green steroid energon.
That was me actually! I also drew Ferguson Prime once.
Superion is just a doodle though, if you want I can draw a better one
Don't mind me, just being the best retool ever.
>Launching Styracosaurus head
>Purple Biker Stache
Hope we get some reissues for the Beast wars Anniversary.
I really like the weirder dudes, I don't have any beast wars figures, but I'd get those, if I could find them.
Just ordered this Kabaya Piranacon set. It's a model kit and theyre fully transformable, two things that make me moist.
Anyone else have it? How does it hold up compared to the original? Im expecting it to be more fragile due to being a kit.
Not true. Cybertron Repugnus was reissued in 2008 and his gold plastic hands can break over time. I don't think Slingshot will shatter in your hands out of the box, but I seriously doubt it will last very long. Translucent figures have longer lifespans than the average GPS toy.
Im a fan of those beast wars toys. Theyre usually fairly cheap too for some reason.
But why are they so hard to find? When I look at my local auction site and Transformers store they always have a few used ones and even the ocasional MIB in stor, and this is in the Netherlands where there's not even that big of a market.
>Don't mean online.
Good luck trying to find them, then.
I'm not looking for em, just that if I saw one, I'd buy it.
Holy shit I have a cool idea
Remember the episode in G1 with the gold lagoon? with the electrum that makes you strong?
what if, in G2, Slingshot became infused with the electrum in some kind of accident, and it made him stronger?
Superion starts using Slingshot as his right arm all the time, and he wins alot of battles
The Stunticons were thought to be missing for a long time, but they come back stronger than ever and fight Superion
After barely winning the battle with a climactic super slingshot punch, Superion suddenly disengages. The Aerialbots look on at Slingshot, who's slowly turning to dust right in front of them
"... I've done my duty and shit. goodbye, my friends.."
Slingshot completely disappears. knowing that the electrum that made him so strong was also his undoing
That's probably the best looking CW torso actually imo.
I also love how they made the chest and head match Tarantulas color scheme to make him not seem out of place.
I'll still have to wait for the price before I decide to pick it up or not though.
Beast Wars is my shit but truth be told most of the figures beyond season 1 are in little need of an update. Transmetal Tarantulas is 99.9% accurate and so are some others.
Wish 3rd party would touch beastformers but I guess greebles are harder to do on animals.
Too bad the G2 Powerglide didn't turn out better.
Actually, I might get another one and make a Deftwing custom.
Any idea on which characters these are suppose to represent?
And why does that tank with a drill instead of cannon make me feel like this is just a super expensive way to use Takara retools (as a drill tank would probably be Drillbison or whatever his name was)
>>red light = characters are red
See, I know it's technically wrong, but these characters are remembered as being red, so it kinda makes sense.
Having them be grey would be boring, no?
>"But it's not supposed to be red!"
Would kek hard if they included a Targetmaster for him to hold called Rumble.
But hardly anyone remembers their screen appearance so cant really say they're made how they're remembered. It was a shit decision. Especially when you have a tarantulas with an unfitting mold.
>"durr lets do BW guys as CW because we're blowing this popsicle stand anyway!"
>make Tarantulas fig
>get Tarantulas VA to attend Botcon
>VA cancels because something else comes up
Never heard of the VA before, but I'm a big fan.
If you want those characters in those forms, then buy them in them, until recently, figures intended to be the show versions of the characters didn't exist, so the funpub figs are for those that want them in those forms, and that's all there is to it.
I rotate displays, so I always have a few boxes full of figures stashed away in my closet to avoid cluttering shelves.
That being said, I could theoretically make a few shelves devoted to a specific character (Grimlock, Starscream, Megatron, Optimus, Nemesis Prime, Bumblebee, and the Combaticons/Bruticus). I've just always been too lazy to do it.
It'd probably look pretty cool, though.
They didn't look like transformers on the show either, so I don't know what else they could do, and atleast there's a resemblence, which is more than I can say for the original figures.
Currently at Bargain Hunt. I can get reissue trypticon for $99. Worth it?
I mean if they intended for them to be the show characters, I doubt they'd make new figures of their very un-transformer-like bodies that can also form the body and limbs of a combiner, so this is probably the best they could do. Also, if I were you, I think I'd rather have proper updates to the original tripredicus trio than Combiner Wars repaints that look nothing like the originals and requires two additional members to form the combiner, y'know?
People who can't afford a $100 Groove or Blast-off bought. Not all of us have insane amounts of money to spend on Transformers. Hasbro provided options that aren't insanely expensive.
The least they could've done was base the colors off the figures.
And that's fine to want a proper update, but if you're going to at least make a reference then try to be somewhat similar to the original.
I think the issue is that the toy version is a very different entity to the show version these are based on, the only linker between the two is that there is three of them and they share the same names, Funpub simply doesn't care about the original figure outside of it's combiner aspect, and I think that's just because they can use the CW molds.
New continuity which does the show and dance of random name reuses and design logic which is divisive when?
I hope it is one that goes for a futuristic alien feel with aerodynamic robot modes, points of articulation are like the chitin exoskeleton of arthropods in how it moves and a bunch of diversity in body structure.
>go to Walmart
>find a bunch of really worn boxes of stunticons and Arielbots on the shelf
Well that's kind of weir-
>find breakneck on the shelves
ok which one of you fuckers return this?
Anyway proof that it was legit
He came up TV and Movies for some reason
So I have some Future Polish, and I was going to dab some into the hip joints on defensor. What's the best way to apply the stuff?
a couple drops at the end of a toothpick? a spare eye-dropper type thing?
Well that explains why there is a sikorsky s-92 there around the the size of an offroad ambulance or a police vehicle. Because CW is so much about scale and not about bullshit ad hoc justifications for why Hasbro left you with a legends groove.
What deco would you prefer on Blastoff, accurate to cartoon or toy?
Fair enough but finding him and slingshot at a random ass Walmart mean someone said "fuck I need money fast but am to stupid to use the Internet, which is how I got these guys"
The guy is going for what? $50 online?
What kind of helicopter is Airrachnid based on?
She looks a little like a more angular Apache
Boeing–Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche which got cancelled in 2004 so no service for it and only 2 prototypes exist for display.
Is it difficult for you to type all that, what with your nose being stuck so high in the air?
I like how they blended organic parts with metal robots. I suppose the cgi models haven't aged well, though.
On that note, are the 10th Anniversary toon-accurate Ultra Megs and Primal worth it? How much should I be paying for them. I'm willing to go around 120 or so on the set.
Just to warn ya- expect a lot of partsforming. Their kits tend to do that. I got their Multiforce kits and they really left a bad taste in my mouth. It's a shame, their Hydra/Buster, Overlord, and Road Caesar look pretty bangin'.
I have part of the Universe Primal as a kid and I loved it. But he was missing his chest, all missiles, back flaps, etc. Basically everything attached to him wasn't there- except for the skull flail. Despite this, I loved all his crazy hidden weapons as a kid.
Still need to buy a complete Primal in the superior original colors.
Nemesis was suppose to be a cliffhanger for season 3. The shuttle was presumably the backdoor for the writers to have the Maximals go into space if Hasbro wanted.
>I think the idea with the timeline is that it's all predestined.
I think so too. BW Megatron also had Megatron's spark briefly so who is to say if G1 Megatron hadn't gotten the idea for the Golden Disk from his BW version.
>Just want an Onslaught with white Bruticus chest
>Don't want to pay 60 to get him
>Still no idea what color scheme the Takara version is going with
Id like to see them take the upcoming Mindwipe and Skullcruncher and make a 2-pack of Optmus Primal and Megatron from the original Beast Wars 2-pack.
Use the Optimus and Megatron styled heads
I certain ones sell
That's the issue
Airelbots did ok short of silverbolt
Stunticons drag till recently even still of the 5 states I travel end I always wind up find a few of them
Autobot cars just clog space
Combaticons seem to be selling up a storm
Season 1 of beast wars was made very open ended. the "aliens" were potentially going to play a much bigger role. G1 was going to be referenced very sparsely and the planet wasn't going to be earth.
Maybe, again it was open ended. They weren't sure where they were going exactly and had options.
Just buy the Onslaught and Scattershot two-pack. Scattershot isn't grest, but we still don't jnoe if the Onslaught that comes with Sky Lynx is going to be the broqn-chest one or not.
Prime Arcee is my favourite, but Strongarm is good too. I like Airrachnid and don't have Windblade. ROTF Arcee is a good representation of the wheelbot design, but it's a shit design.
You know, rarely if ever do I feel that way about TFs but I'd love show accurate Beast Wars that didn't transform because that was a show where I cared more about the characterizations than the show being a vehicle (pun intended?) to sell toys.
Is that Takara Strongarm? It looks weird.
Objectively I think Strongarm is the best toy. Arcee tends to hold together like shit. Airrachnid is fine, Windblade looks shitty, and Movie Designs suck.
Strongarm is a fun little car. I have both decos.
>Stunticons drag till recently even still of the 5 states I travel end I always wind up find a few of them
...what? I've never seen Stunticons on the shelves. The only Generations figures I've seen sit on the shelves are Superion, Optimus, and the Autobot guys, who are shelfwarming hard.
>Decepticons don't get made
You can't sell what you don't make.
They don't sell so that means Hasbro won't waste their money making money. The less there is the less there will be collecting dust
And stunticons pegwarmed for a long time for many people.
>they don't make them because they don't sell
THEY DONT SELL BECAUSE THEY DONT MAKE THEM
>And stunticons pegwarmed for a long time for many people.
[Citation needed]. Motormaster was scalped to hell and back.
Though if Hasbro's convinced that 'cons don't sell, I wonder what they learned from all the shelfwarming 1 step changers, Bumblebees, and Prime/Silverbolts?
In my area (aka: Fucking Nowhere, USA), the pegs were up until about November, hanging with Alpha Bravo's, Offroads, and Protectobots. Never saw any of the G1 crew other than Optimus and Megatron.
Mid-Nov they all vanished, guessing caught up in the pre-Xmas rush. No CW shit on the pegs until after Xmas, where I saw 1 Brawl and Swindle.
Pegs are still full of the other lines smaller 'bots.
>The light shining on them which was red
I didn't know yellow light turned robots red.
One of the guys who worked on this episode straight up says that it's the red light from their stupid Jeopardy buzzers and that everything in the scene is black, white, or grey because they intended it to be very film noir but the red was some kind of accident and they liked it so it stayed.
Huh. Hasbrotoyshop just made Brawl, Swindle, and Blast Off available. Vortex and Onslaught are no where to be seen. I'm sure some people will be happy to get some of these cons at non-scalper prices. I know I've never seen them at my Targets and Walmarts.
>I didn't watch the scene
The center guy just pressed his red button, the other two haven't. They're not red.
American culture is ingrained into us so much that kids prefer heroes vs villains. It WAY more apparent in Japan. Heroes always sell more, that's why there's so many damn Bumblebees every time.
I'm sure they're thinking some bullshitalong the lines of "WELL THEY WERE RED IN THE SCENE THAT'S HOW EVERYONE REMEMBERS THEM SO WE'RE DOING THAT" boring excuse for trying to be ""INTERESTING"".
There's the problem, the warrior class is more budget orientated than the CW line.
You want a good spiffy car, wait for the line after titan wars that focuses on the individual bots and not some shared play pattern, or an MP if you're into that sort of thing
He's talking about RID2000 I think. What do we call it now anyways?
>Repaints in Disguise
>The one with the funny galvatron with many alt modes
>OPTIMUS PRIME IS A FIRETRUCK AND IT'S THE BEST THING EVER
Too stupid to be bad guys, that and good for troop building, not enough generic rebels around.
...speaking of stupid whoops, never actually paid much attention to that series, at the time I was a stupid kid who hated anime, later to learn half the shit I watched prior was anime but being older had less of a comedic tone, and heavily dubbed, I should give that show a chance since I liked that optimus design.
I should refer to it as rid and the CURRENT rid as "transformers adventure".
I don't know what hasbro was thinking dishing out the same series twice, makes idiots like me jump the gun
>Transformers™ Prime™ :Robots™ In™ Disguise™
I just call that one prime, I'm not a paid shill.
I don't read the comics, no time and I hate waiting for the next issue to come out so rather wait for compilations
