Some anons in the last thread wanted to see Potato with Ketar's vorox armor, iirc no one delivered so here it is. I like it a lot, if you're gonna bring back his robo arm I think this is a great way to make it stand out more
And here's Ketar. I actually liked the tan vorox armor and the messy color scheme, but I can't deny he looks more put together this way
I took some crappy pictures since I've recieved some pieces for Tahu and made some changes to Pohatu, but first, let's repost Lewa.
Here is tahu with the corrected colour scheme. As I said before, the blades on his back are able to stay even when unified with ikir (and most likely everyone else).
I almost want to pick up a clearance Tahu and do this down the line.
I'm also thinking of getting Pohatu + maybe a clearance 2015 Pohatu (if I can find any left) + Keytar and maybe Peg Rider Finn or Rey this weekend. Hopefully mod I do will be better than the base build for 2016.
Quite frankly, I don't know. I'm pretty sure the "rarest" piece used here are the two 3M shells so maybe check sets that have them ? The other pieces aren't difficult to find by any mean.
Finally, here is Pohatu, with the boulder now attached to his leg. I didn't really like the flail weapon as is and a friend of mine joked about how it looked like the boulder was actually attahed to his ankle in one of my previous pictures and I though it was actually an excellent idea, so I kept it. Not sure about the 1x1 round plates on the chain though, I wanted to get them on here to make it look like the chain had crystals in it, but it doesn't look that good.
You can also see the repurposed crystal blade, It's a non-definitive design but I wanted to include it so pohatu has something to hold on.
Posting new /biog/core
What reactions have you gotten from friends and family about your bonkles? Most people I've shown seem impressed, a few aren't interested, and so far only two have insulted me for having them.
The family knows Bionicle's been my favorite thing for ages, and while they don't completely approve of my spending they seem okay with it. Most of my friends are impressed by my collection, though the normalfags on the fringes of my group think Lego is "kid crap". They're starting to see the light too, but it's slow going as they aren't very open minded.
I started playing with Bionicles when I was around 9, and most of my cousins were just curious as to why I didn't like to play sports, or watch BET, or listen to rap music. My mom doesnt care so much, and was just happy I found a hobby. By ~13 years old, my dad gave up on me ever joining a sports team when I didn't make the cut for the football team, and just had a depressed look in his eyes whenever he saw me playing.
As of now, I'm getting back into Bionicle, and I'm going to keep it a secret. I don't want my folks to know I got back into it.
I think I asked here before, but I can't remember if I got a response.
Are any of those worth buying?
My families pretty cool with it, honestly. My ex-infantrymen brother saw them for the first time the other day and he posed up some sets so that Obi Wan Kenobi was fucking RoboTupac in the ass while RoboTupac ate out Rey. So I think that's a positive? But honestly I rarely mention it around them, they just know I enjoy it.
Sorry to hear that Anon. I don't know your age range, but I'm assuming you're at least high school age, since you made it seem like you still live with your family. I went through a similar thing with my own family, so let me reassure you that no matter your hobbies, they're your family, and they'll always love you. If you enjoy Bionicles go ahead and keep fucking with em. Hope it's just as much fun as you remember them being when you were 9.
My mom would never buy them for me, but she understands and appreciates some of the shit I build.
My brother and friends think it's pretty cool, and it ties in to our group creative projects.
My dad's an engineer (and even bought little me his first Bionicle set -- Lewa Mata) and -- systemfag that he is -- thinks it's pretty neat.
The people that know me well expect unnatural behavior, and aren't very surprised to find out I collect toys. Usually people are impressed, it turns out, so either I'm pretty good at spotting like minds, or I'm easy to lie to.
Before I graduated, a good majority of my high school classmates were weebs and considered my toy collecting 'weird', which was generally their word for normal. Some of the people I hung out with since elementary still thought Bionicle was the hottest shit, even though they fell out of buying sets around Hordika year.
My family's okay with it, and my old man started buying Lego sets when he saw aftermarket prices on eBay and other places.
What exactly is this from? None of the wiki seem to know.
Friends don't care. One of them sat down with me and built some stuff. Mom doesn't. Dad wasn't impressed when I told him I spend my money on toys, but hasn't brought it up or acted differently when I've seen/called him after that.
I'm 19, and if my parents deem my spending "unfit for someone my age", it's just a reason for them the kick me out.
I'm also a little hesitant about buying some of the newer Bionicles. They look pretty cool, but I'm not digging the way the armor looks. I would buy some of the older ones, but that's not exactly cheaper.
What should I do?
Got a prototype of kopaka's sword, not sure I'll keep it as is since it uses illegal connection for the hilt piece, but I prefer the look of both blades against each other. I may buy Gali first though, I haven't decided yet.
It's from the old promo CDs, the Toa bios section. Some versions (like the ones I have) just showed monochrome screenshots from the animations, but apparently other versions had exclusive CGI renders.
my friends and family have accepted that I blow most of my money on toys. but my dad loves LEGO, since I was a kid it's been a tradition that every birthday/christmas we'd get Star Wars sets and build them together. He's kinda sad that bonkles are too simple to need two people to work on them but h still thinks they're neat.
>my friends and family have accepted that I blow most of my money on toys. but my dad loves LEGO
Lucky, my family is barely tolerant of my toy spending, while my father scoffs at Lego...
...Considering this is a man who'd do well to have an actual hobby in his life now that's he's retired, this is rather infuriating.
So I did some simple mods to three of my 2015 Toa.
Kopaka of course needed a new torso shell.
My parents aren't too fond of it, but as long as I'm just spending my own money, they don't really care. Especially since I showed them that the cost spread out across the year isn't even as high as it seems when I buy a bunch of sets at once.
My sisters and all friends who have seen it are generally pretty excited about my collection. I actually can't remember ever getting any really negative reactions.
Just got my 2016 Onua and I have to say I think I actually like the 2015 design more. I like the trans usage, bigger mask, and lack of stickers for 2016 but the design doesn't do it for me.
My opinion may change once I get terak however...
And Onua has been given the heaviest amount of new parts, now having all trans purple bones and shells from Basher and his 2016 form.
He's also a into taller thanks to his shin bones and he stacks up better next to the other Toa now. He's easily my favorite in terms of the new look. Gali still a cute though.
>Marathoned the comics last night
>mfw Toa Metru Owena and Nocturne
I've decided to remove all crystal elements from the Toa and keep them for the Creatures, so I'm digging a relic from the past for my Ultimate Kopaka's™ sword.
Once I get Kopaka and Melum I'll try to incorporate the set's sword hilt into mine too.
I'm changing Lewa's axes for another piece, this way each Toa has a unique mould for their weapon(s).
I can remember one instance where I had a fairly normie friend of mine and his girlfriend come in my house for a bit. As we were walking up the stairs to my room I thought to myself "I have all those 2015 sets displayed in my room" but I figured it's to late to avoid my room now so I just had to be cool about it and try not to look autistic. When we entered my room the sets were the first thing they noticed and my friend said something along the lines of "dude bionicles were the coolest" and honestly seemed impressed. His girlfriend was rather quiet about it, couldn't really tell what she thought of it. However what they didn't know is that I recently spent over a hundred dollars on all those sets, instead of them being old toys I had on display. I'm sure they would've thought it was weird if they knew that.
>grandmother and cousin don't understand why I like lego stuff and spend so much on it
>they each have closets full of clothing they never wear
everybody's got those things they like which are ultimately pointless
>yfw this nigga lives with his grandma and cousin
even your grandma thinks you're a fucking loser
Finally got a united mode that pleases me. It feels a bit like some oversouls from Shaman King, and I really like using Ketar's head as a pauldron.
So's my cousin, who has to work jobs that give tips to make above minimum wage. Your point?
I might be adding a bit too much, but it's kinda sorta my first real moc.
How is it?
I mean, these would be some of the best fakes I've ever seen.
I mean, these are preliminary enough that they don't feature any blended pieces or prints, but yeah they are a bit iffy. Ekimu will look fine once the blending on the mask is added in, but Umarak's posing is really awkward and trans-neon green is such a garbage color.
I mean, best in terms of looking like legit leaks, rather than best in terms of looking like good sets. Because these look like shit.
With the Bionicles, I would just get a few of the smaller sets and see how you feel about it. I didn't dig the new armor at first, but it grew on me after a while.
As for the family, fuck that shit. It's your money, spend it how you want. And if they really kick you out for that, then get an apartment or something.
I don't mind these that much looking at them for awhile, except for Umarak, he's just such a departure from what he was, I mean I get what they are going for with the face, its a big bestial mask of control, but the shape and proportions of the whole thing seem really odd to me, though the posing might be more at fault for that because he is leaning so far forward.
If nothing else the setting seems kinda cool with that giant green mountain and the green sky and the sickly mucus dripping off the Masks of Earth, Ice, and Fire (which appear to be recolored silver and trans neon green)
Ekimu is standing on what might be a gunmetal Hunter Mask, I can't see another mask on Umarak, Lava beast has a Tahu mask on his hand under the copyright, Quake Beast has Onua's in his left shoulder trap, and Storm Beast has Kopaka's in its tail on the bottom right.
As the guy who invented that leg build (I'm actually sincerely flattered), I'm gonna try my best to keep criticism constructive.
I really like what you did with the exterior arms.
Very creative use of parts, and the uniformly bulky limbs coupled with the itty-bitty hands gives them a very "deep sea pressure suit" vibe.
Your attempt to give it a rotating action-feature antenna is applaudable, but ultimately misplaced
While I'm flattered you decided to use those legs, they were designed for very small, lightweight MOCs for a reason.
Mounted on a body that tall, and that far apart, they look like turkey-leg toothpicks.
In fact, that really sums up everything wrong with your MOC.
Everything is too wide and too empty.
You have some parts that -- on their own -- would be very nice, but when you try and mash them all together on that wide, gappy frame, it's all just a big mess.
Salvage the legs and arms, put the former on something more slim and gracile, put the latter on something completely beefy and filled out, and ditch the antenna.
why did they choose to make silver masks of the toa whose creatures have gold heads ? wasn't it the perfect time to create silver versions of lewa, gali and pohatu's masks ? it would have been way more interesting.
Wonder what the significance of Ekimu standing on Umarak's old mask means, it seems to confirm it was at least a mask, but why is it still relevant if Umarak has turned into some giant twisted abomination.
Anyone else not feeling it this wave?
I mean, I'm glad Bionicle is back and they're using more technic builds this time, but the sets just seem so...generic I guess is the word I'd use. Whatever happened to all those cool names like "Bohrok" and "Rahkshi"? Instead we get names like "Skull Basher" and "Lava Beast".
Maybe it's because I haven't bought any from the 2016 wave yet, but I don't find myself getting excited compared to last year. I'll still buy a few because it's Bionicle, but I can't help but feel like Lego is taking it in the wrong direction in terms of story/characters.
If these are real, Umarak is by far the biggest disappointment, the Hunter is my favorite G2 figure, and this one doesn't seem to take much from him besides his leg build and the Mask of Control. How do we go from a bow to giant monster hands?
So looking at Umarak he has some slime shit coming off him the same color as he is, and there is slime shit featured in all the other sets. We see the central mountain of Okoto spewing a beam into the air and the sky is green and fucked, so clearly he fucked some shit up. Pure speculation, but one theory could be that he actually managed to capture the creatures at the end of the winter story and since they were the embodiment of the islands elements it made everything go to shit.
Literally every single batch of these are dated the year before, is this your first set of leaks?
The most telling factor of leaks is if there are no new parts, but we have at LEAST 4 new parts here.
Do Tahu or Lewa count as "small" sets?
Also, minimum wage and college makes me dependant on them, so it'd be tough getting an apartment with my salary any time soon.
And thanks for the kind words guys, but I'm gonna stop blogposting now.
Looked at them for a while, current thoughts:
This guy looks fine, I expect / hope the mask is blended with gold in the front like the 2016 winter wave masks, protectors didnt have blending on their masks at this stage so its possible.
Looks cool enough, legs are shit, but weapons appear to have some kind of neat little function. I hope that jaw is poseable
I actually think this one looks really cool, curious about what those rods in the back are. Poseable fingers is cool, hopefully the jaw is poseable too.
Never been one for the bulky purple / black sets, but this one looks inoffensive enough, Looks like he has a super beefy arm or something, hopefully the jaw can move
>Umarak the Destroyer
I set myself up for disappointment with this guy, Umarak was so cool and I kind of expected this version to be a bigger version of the same thing. Once the shock value wore off he's kind of grown on me, the pose is absolutely terrible in his boxart and shitty perspective makes the proportions look terrible, he looks much better in Ekimu's boxart. upper legs look kind of short compared to lower legs but I think that's just a trick of perspective like the torso (which is actually really tall and decently proportioned), since it looks fine in Ekimu's boxart. Not crazy about the headpiece, but going to hope it's just the pose, which makes it look less intimidating than it should (the beasts end up looking far scarier) Hopefully the jaw can move.
>gunmetal Umarak mask
Is it me or does it look like Ekimu is standing on his knees, as if he were almost defeated?
New shoulder armor piece?
Will it finally include the silver/purple blade? I can't see it.
>dark blue shells
Do I spot a light blue figure on the right side of the box?
We said the same thing about the skull crew and they turned out to be real (though with several adjustments in coloration like Skull Basher's torso).
General rule here is that the prelims always look like shit because lego has no idea how to pose sets, and in person things look a lot better (like with the skull crew). Printing should at least make the torso pieces look less bare.
>mfw UtD has chest stickers
>mfw it's an enlarged version of the chest mouth from his hunter form
Yeah, but they're not on the box or anything, and like >>5405936 said everything is simplified.
Remember all the foreshadowing Lego did for the Bohrok before their official release? Remember how mysterious and alien they were, with their krana and the way they stopped at nothing to destroy everything on Mata Nui? Remember all those krana you could collect, and how each had its own name and power, plus the fact that there were active and dormant variants? It wasn't until years later that we finally learned their true purpose, but even in those early years there was so much room to speculate.
Compare that to the skull squad this generation. They had very little depth beyond "stop the Toa and steal their masks". The most foreshadowing we got was that hand coming out of the ground in the final shot of the early 2015 animations, but even when we did see them in action they get defeated relatively easily. The Bohrok, by comparison, needed the entire island of Mata Nui working together to be defeated, and even then they were essentially unstoppable until the Toa finally shut them down by imprisoning the queens. They felt like a real threat, which kept you on the edge as you watched everything unfold via the comics, web animations, books, and online games.
I wish Lego didn't simplify this gen so much. I miss the massive amount of world building we got from G1, from the comics to the online games to the books. I'm hoping they go back to it, but right now it looks like they'll keep everything as simple as they can.
>The beasts were tlg's chance at making sets that aren't generic humanoid garbage
>and they wasted it
That's it. There's no saving G2. It's so god damn shit. All of it. It started out almost promising, then it all went downhill from there.
its been an up down more than a straight down.
The Masters were okay
The Skull Villains were iredeemable shit
The Uniters are fantastic
The Beasts are mediocre.
This year's better than last year, but the summer wave is still worse than the winter wave by far like it was last year.
Okay fine, the Skull Villains werent actually that bad, open ball joints all over the place sucked, but MM vs SG plus basher were all fine.
Uniters statement is completely true, they are so much better than last years Toa it isnt even funny.
I feel that the posing is what really kills Umarak for me, once I adjust my expectations from what he is now to what he will become (some giant beast turned so probably by the mask of control combined with whatever fucking apocalypse he unleashed) I'm warming up to him. Remember how bad lego is at posing (pic related), This Umarak is leaning forward just as far as the one in this pose, and leaning forward poses never look good for humanoids.
Probably for the best, remember how terrible the skull prelims looked compared to the actual sets.
>same weapon mold re-used for 5 of the 6 toa
>compromising silhouette diversity to support shitty gimmick
>They've all been raped by the gold & silver fairies
>Ben 10 levels of useless torso pieces
I'll ask again, what twisted, fucked up, reality are you living in? Because the only redeeming thing about the wave was the slightly more technic torso builds.
>>same weapon mold re-used for 5 of the 6 toa
Welcome to post 2006 Bionicle
>>compromising silhouette diversity to support shitty gimmick
Welcome to Bionicle in general
>>They've all been raped by the gold & silver fairies
Welcome to 2002 and post 2006 Bionicle
>>Ben 10 levels of useless torso pieces
Welcome to CCBS
Welcome to literally any titan
>same weapon mold re-used for 5 of the 6 toa
which were each incorporated into a unique technic weapon build.
>compromising silhouette diversity to support shitty gimmick
Wasn't the "silhouette" thing shot down, like, five threads ago?
>They've all been raped by the gold & silver fairies
Lots of metals =/= bad
>Ben 10 levels of useless torso pieces
the Uniter torso shells are still useful with other CCBS torsos
there's no accounting for taste
...are we still talking about the same sets? Umarak's pretty fucking great
I rather like the unity wave, but saying that post 2006 bionicle used the same weapons is totally stupid. No, the general gimmick weapon doesn't count since pretty much every set with some exceptions got a specific weapon. Get your facts straight if you want to argue.
>tfw I have BA Stormer because an old friend bought it for me on a vacation
What a lazy Kopaka rip off, but I have a soft spot for it because it's recently gotten me back into bonkles.
>same weapon mold re-used for 5 of the 6 toa
Bionicles been doing this for ages now, its better than what we had early G1 where only 1 weapon piece ever becomes useful for MOCs and the others are too specialized to use for anything. The set's weapon configurations are different enough that you literally only notice the similarities on Gali and Pohatu.
>compromising silhouette diversity to support shitty gimmick
Literally the only one with silhouette diversity last year was Onua, hell the custom upper arms on these guys add all sorts of new designs that the others lacked with their boring CCBS construction
>They've all been raped by the gold & silver fairies
Just like bionicle post 2002, they arent even much worse than last year in that regard, Tahu's overuse of gold isnt whats noticeable in person, it's his lack of red.
>Ben 10 levels of useless torso pieces
All torso pieces are useless anyway, last years were just as bad except for the lower part which looks like shit on it's own. If you want to make a good MOC in CCBS you dont use torso pieces for anything but filler.
Do you even own the masks? All of them except Gali are far superior to their 2015 designs in terms of shape an expression, Tahu no longer has his disgusting 2015 jawile and has a less dorky expression, Lewa's mask actually looks good now, Kopaka's mask doesnt look like a depressed buisinessman, and Pohatu's doesnt look like literally a rectangle.
Do you even own Umarak? Literally the only thing on him you could call a clusterfuck are his lower legs, which are very coherent outside of the blue pins.
I swear you don't own any of the sets and are just copypasting Deevee's shitposting.
He's being all 'wah wah I hate how they made bionicle look like bionicle again I want muh nostalgia gearboxes', just ignore him, he isn't going to hurt your or my enjoyment of the Uniters.
Only the chest printings can save the Beasts. Ekimu is going to look a lot better, love the fully trans mask. Umarak looks too different from his base form, his legs and his hands look awful. And trans neon green? Really?
But look at the Beasts. They don't even look like the designers tried. Those limbs are awful.
So are these the extras?
Ekimu: gunmetal Umarak mask
Lava: gunmetal and trans ? green Hau
Quake: gunmetal and trans neon green Pakari
Storm: gunmetal and trans bright green Akaku
I think people are just dissapointed because we expected so much from Umarak the destroyer, people wanted literally Grevious with antlers, but instead we got something completely different, which does explain why lego would release the same character twice in one year, as he has undergone a drastic appearance change.
Really the only thing I dont like about the beasts' are Lava Beast's lower legs. As much as I am dissapointed they are all bipedal, Lego has proved time and time again they cant make non-bipedal Bionicle sets for shit with CCBS, so this was probably the right decision. I am happy we arent just getting masks again and actually have beastial heads. and unlike last summer, we actually get three recolors for the overused headpiece (though still only two new head/mask pieces) instead of everything being silver with one gunmetal.
I actually legitametly like Storm beast a lot, small beast feet as hands is kind of awkward, but the overall silhouette is really menacing.
I just really don't understand what you expect from Bionicle if you actually liked the Masters with their lack of necks, open balljoints, and big stretches of textureless flat color (they looked way too toyish in general) over the very very much Bionicle-looking uniters, who's only weak links are Gali and Pohatu.
It's totally going to be trans neon green, we will never get trans-yellow.
>looks like frozen piss
>LOOKS LIKE FROZEN PISS
ANONS...DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?!?!
I- I had heard the prophecies, yet never dared believe them to be true...to think that I should live to see this day...
I really don't mind the beasts at all, Lava Beast's limbs are kinda shit, but Storm and Quake's aren't bad at all, I really like the thinner unarmored look, especially as one who really dislikes the CCBS armor they throw on everything, so these end up looking really cool to me. That being said, with the blurry image and lack of chest prints (as well as inability to really see what the head mold looks like in any sort of detail), its really hard to get a sense for these sets yet.
Remember that none of these have prints, Im expecting gold printing on that chestpiece to get more of the gold in there, and perhaps some blending on the mask of creation im not sure.
Hopefully it is just Umarak's pose, he looks menacing as hell behind Ekimu
don't piss on my frozen piss parade ya little bitch
Imagine, classic-space color themed bonkles
then you best whip your dick out, tommy lee jones
I think Quake beast looks pretty good (at least better than the other villain sets in the wave), and I do like lava beast from the waist up. Storm beast might have a weird gimmick that'll make it or break it like Skull Scorpio last year, and, knowing me, I'll like that.
Umarak's legs are just straight-up terrible, and I still can't believe they'd bother with Basher horns/Joker coat-tails for anything (I have some gunmetal bone spines from Scorpio for cases like these). Kinda wished his fingers weren't those spike pieces. Unfortunate since I enjoy the idea of his body being heavily transformed by power he can't comprehend.
Ekimu looks fantastic, even if his shoulder pads aren't on his arms anymore. I'll be keeping the burial mask on the Mask Maker Ekimu.
I was solely disappointed when I found out Pohatu did not have Trans yellow as I was led to believe from preliminaries and official images.
>not wanting trans NEON yellow >>5406149
Waspix's trans yellow CCBS can go eat a dick or two.
I think he just needs gold shells behind the armor add-ons on his legs and some print on his chest. The mask is kinda iffy, I'll admit, but it'll probably be blended in the final product.
"Lo, and behold the destroyer of Toa; his claws will be as mighty swords, and his hide armored with frozen urine, impenetrable to all weapons aside from the burning urinal cake arrow."
>burning urinal cake arrow
>implying Ekimu's new hammer isn't an even larger weaponized urinal cake
Is this sarcasm? If not, thanks and later.
Dang ,the actual inventor? That's neat. And you succeeded, you were very constructive in criticizing, thanks. I never thought of it as finished once, it's very preliminary right now so I'll probably do all of what you said. And that antenna radar was just for giggles it's coming off if I can't reconfigure it somewhere to look good.
Had a gander at UtD's legs, think I fucked something up because as is it would literally be impossible to stand up with these.
>someone says Bionicle has gone to shit and tries to stir up some anons
>another anon points to the newest wave and says literally
>year of the toilet
B A S E D
>yfw UtD was doomed to suck
And speaking of primates... preliminary. Ima take a jab at these leeks. They're shit. And although umarak looks atrocious, I do like the idea of him going nuts with a gaping mouth.
>those three or four anons grabbing at each others dicks 2 months ago about the Beasts' elemental properties and how they were combinations among the 6
>it's just the golden toas' elements
I knew i shouldn't have gotten hyped over baseless banter, but I can't say I'm disappointed.
Also who's this guy?
>at least we get 'poisoned' masks for three molds (look at the beast boxes closely)
Yeah, that's how I figured they were just one element (Lava/Tahu's mask, Quake/Onua's mask, Storm/Kopaka's mask).
More masks are great, but I wonder if the beasts and Umarak can wear them or if UtD's Mask of Control is an all new piece that isn't a mask that goes over a new shared base head piece for all four.
Looks like Ekimu with the greenish mist over him that the backgrounds on the box arts seem to have.
>Deviantart and the single most useless gimmick Bionicle G1 ever saw: the year.
Keetongu and the Toa Hagah were the only good sets from 2005. Fight me.
>implying Keetongu and the Toa Hagah weren't the reasons why I liked 2005
If they hadn't happened, then I wouldn't say I liked it, and I'm certainly not saying it was the best year in the slightest.
>tfw my brother and I used these as swords even though Web of Shadows showed it as torches
That movie can suck my left nut.
We should've gotten this Mask of Control to begin with. No goatee, actual ram horns. Looks like a real demon king like the animated version did, instead of some old dwarf warrior. Would be great if we got it in black or gunmetal.
It's probably just me, but is anybody else kinda sick of leaks? I feel really burnt out. I think it's because I don't have any of the 2016 winter wave sets, so seeing these new things has just kinda killed it for me. They're preliminary, they feel preliminary, and I don't want to make a judgement on any of these until I've actually gotten the mask. I felt like talking about these sets and how shit they look, but after winter wave 2016 and when we finally have time to soak in those sets, everything seems to have moved on...
>I want the Mask of Control like it was in the animations, but in colors that it wasn't in the animations
Too bad the horns on this one are Joker tails that are added on with technic connectors.
why would you not want two versions? It's cool that the horns are directly taken from the mask's design. You got your 'normal villain' version and the 'shit's going down beast transformation' version.
I imagine Umarak putting on the mask and transforming like dracula in Castlevania SoTN. Or Ganondorf in LoZOoT if you prefer that.
>GIVE ME POWAAEEHRR
yeah, it's like how stors are always gearing up for the next holiday while the corpse of the last one is still warm. Most of us won't even be able to get all of this most recent wave for quite a while. Can't we just digest what we have now, for once?
What if playtest anon was right all along?
Ekimu the Mask Maker does look pretty ghost-like with his all-transparent mask and torso, maybe he saw Ekimu and assumed it was his spirit form?
And the beasts could have missiles that shoot out of their mouths.
Yeah we always get leaks way too early and it puts us half a year ahead in mindset and really just doesnt let us enjoy the current sets as much when we know what is coming. Hopefully Journey to One in februrary is good enough to shift our interest.
Exactly how I feel, it seems like we got excited for nothing. Last time, at least, my local store had the 2015 winter wave sets in stock when summer wave leaks came out, the same for summer wave '15 to winter wave '16, but now we have new leaks again. Since I didn't get the the current wave online, it just feels like I got sorta excited for nothing. The worst thing these leaks and the sets that are shown could do was create apathy. Hate is at least something you can do, but apathy is worse.
That's how things should be, yeah, but I was afraid that the limited budget wouldn't have allowed for a second form and we'd be stuck with the Winter version. Glad I was wrong.
Also, I'm happy to see that the Mask, while looking very evil, has maintained a vague sense of regality.
you heinous swine
[nospoilers]I love it[/onthisboard]
They are bigger and more substantial and have more pieces than they did last year, and are the exact same price (they were 20 bucks last year too), Umarak moreso because he has even more pieces than Tahu and Onua and is really substantial for the same pricepoint.
I know this is a longshot but here me out here, what if the purpose of that weird rod behind Storm Beast that connects to the shoulders is actually a part of a function that makes the claws slash when you use the swivel function? Makes sense for a character with menacing claws like that and explains the presence of such a piece.
i did it. i killed him. hes dead now. goodbye color scheme.
I think the problem with circle shields is that they only look right when paired with certain weapons. 01 kopaka had a fairly light looking sword and a circle shield for some nice sword and board action, 2015 Kopaka had a spear, which is better paired with a tower shield like he had in that year. 2016 Kopaka only has a small shield to accompany his blaster since he now wields a very large double-bladed broadsword type weapon.
I know there is lots of friction in the new torso piece, but this guy's upper body is basically Umarak with 2015 Onua stacked on top of it, the bottom of the hulk chestpiece is nearly at the very top of the skull ribcage armor, not to mention the giant hands, how the hell is this supposed to be supported by that one little gear on the function.
>how the hell is this supposed to be supported by that one little gear on the function
It seems to be able to support 2016 Tahu's and Onua's bulkier chests in addition to a $10 set slapped on the back quite well. I'm sure it's capable.
I know we are in leak mode now, but I gotta say, the tightened masks on these new 2016 figures is so nice, you can actually moves the heads around without having to grab them awkwardly and move them carefully.
I feel like the combination of all of those factors just makes posing the heads an easier and more satisfying experience, the fact that you actually have a good range of motion on the heads unlike almost half of last year's toa helps as well.
I'm pretty sure UtD's arms have nowhere near as much mass as Axonn's arms.
Yeah, I like how it is for the new Toa (and Umarak). 2015 Onua's head, while extremely mobile and had the smaller mask to boot, was awkward with it's use of a 3M bone to extend the neck.
>Umarak the Destroyer isn't an orange-themed, beefier Umarak
>Legendary Beasts aren't upscaled, more detailed versions of the Armor, Weapon, and Winged Creatures
>Ekimu looks like a member of the blue man singing group
Is it wrong that I actually legitimately like the beasts though they were different then I expected them to be, and am really only disappointing by Umarak and only because his winter incarnation was so cool and I was hoping for more of the same? I couldn't care less about Ekimu because he is pretty standard fare anyway, but he definitely needs that gold print in the final version to look right.
>wanting more archetypal black/neon orange sets
>not loving that we're getting at least one good set that utilizes trans neon green this year
>the beasts look like they may still be upscaled mutations, Storm looks like he has Melum's function, Lava looks like his swords can be oriented like feathers on his wrists
>Ekimu will at least have a gold/trans light blue blended MoCr
And fuck off with that just shit already.
Looking closely, he retains so much of his previous form from the neck down, like his legs, toes, shoulder pads, and hell even the chain on his right shoulder, that Im actually really hyped for the set. Not to mention he looks menacing and the sickly neon green is a better upgrade IMO since Makuta is going to be a big neon orange and black set next year.
I'm kinda disappointed by UtD, but honestly the more I look at him the more oddities I realized are caused by awkward poses, I will REALLY have to see him at a toy fair or whatever before I can really make a judgement.
The reason I am not dismissing any of these sets right away is because I remember what I thought about the Skull fuckers during prelims, and how much more I liked them when I had them in person, I consider these prelims a lot better looking and more appealing than the skull guy's prelim images, so I feel like I will appreciate these enough once I actually have them.
Literally every single set with neon green this year has appeared very much yellow in the CGI renders, and this time it even has a slight greenish tint on the box and a green theme for the entire year reinforcing it being trans neon green. It's never been trans yellow the past 3 waves, its not going to be this time.
yes it will
failing having trans red, I can at least hold on to the hope that trans yellow will be more of a thing
>Bionicle 2.0 set designers
>Caring about making their sets' colors work
We will get a trans lime Umarak, and I will laugh. Screencap this.
I always find Pohatu Uniter's CGs really misleading because in person I can barely tell the difference between his leg crystals and lower arm armor and I really dont care about multiple shades of brown since it is sorta a dull rustic kinda color anyway. I think he looks really cool outside of his weapon.
I think the only reason I'm unsure about the Beasts is that they REALLY looks to me like love children of the Hero Factory Invasion from Below and Brain Attack waves.
What I'm most looking forward to is that hellish endgame apocalypse bullshit in the background. If nothing else, I think the story might be pretty good this summer.
Is it just me, or does Stormbeest seem like a cheap retread of Aquagon?
Pohatu is actually pretty god tier, ESPECIALLY if you separate his weapon into a flail into a spear. I've got a setup that lets it go between the former and the staff (with an added axle connector and a friction axle pin) with extra hand articulation like the other staff weapons and it's pretty class. I'm hoping I can fix Gali's weapons when I get her but seriously, what the fuck is with her weapon. Its features are a hook that swings and is basically Pohatu's boulder but not as cool and...a spinning bit? No thanks.
One thing to remember about the beasts and Umarak is that there is a certain level of detail on their headpieces that is just unheard of for Hero Factory sets. Lately lego seems to be wanting to show off how fine they can mold details (have you seen how tiny the script on the mask of control is?), so the new sets will definitely look quite a bit different once we get clearer pictures and the clearer look at the heads and the presence of chest prints really makes the detail pop.
I will admit, I was genuinely wowed by the Mask of Creation when I finally got my hands on it, it has SUCH GOOD DETAIL. I'm absolutely thrilled they've started making more detailed parts.
That kinda sums up my opinion on all the Uniter masks.
Good sculpts and the fact that they have the GODDAMNED NUVA SYMBOLS AND SHIT molded into them bumps them straight into God-II-Tier.
It does. The shooter piece itself spins around the inner trigger piece, like with a bunch of the 2016 system sets.
>Getting back into bonkles
>The only parts I have are from BA Stormer and Protector of Water
>The best I can manage is a not Skull Slicer with a bow, a sword, and dreary trans blue color scheme
>After looking at him without his weapons, I realize I made something along the lines of "what if General Grievous was blue"
>mfw I'm not creative enough to use plastic crack
>All villain sets so far have mask stamps on their foreheads
>Toa and Protector sets have them on their mouths
Headcanon this is how Makuta and Ekimu mark their masks. Villagers don't want to wear Makuta's because all he makes all day is fucking spiders and skulls.
I combined 2015 and 2016 Gali so she can have some nice hips and warrior pauldrons.
Just make something and don't be afraid of failure. Keep coming back to your older creations and work on them until you're satisfied. Then, post pics on /biog/ to either get ignored or shitposted into oblivion.
The Ballad of Styx Mullagheah and Goldtown Scruggs continues!
As if there wasn't enough trans-blue-sent and gold pieces... I'm still getting it.
I like how Makuta's mask has sort of fused with Umarak, and it looks like his claws have a grip gimmick.
>reusing those ugly ass swords
Hell no, I'll just bricklink the masks.
PURPLE, though I think I see those goddamn swords on his shoulder.
This one doesn't look too bad, not sure what his gimmick might be.
As HF as the beasts look (especially the heads), I'm willing to forgive it all if they do turn out to be corrupted versions of the large Toa, because that means we might get Lewa vs Onua with the roles reversed. I've been waiting for something like that for at least a decade.
I can't remember what was funny about Onewa in the comics?
>>>same weapon mold re-used for 5 of the 6 toa
>Welcome to post 2006 Bionicle
Toa Mahri, Mistika and Phantoka.
>Welcome to literally any titan
Makuta, Krekka, Nidhiki, Sidorak, Roodaka and Keetongu weren't clusterfucks. Umurak doesn't look bad either.
He didn't mention G1 torsos and said G1 has some of the flaws that G2 has.
2005 titans were fine.
TWO-THOUSAND AND TEN.
You know lack of pieces is your problem.
You say that as if the Master mask isn't good.
Me and my brother were messing around with my sets when we got the idea to take a bunch of pictures and make a comic out of it. The story is one of Umarak meeting another hunter in the woods, who then rapes the shit out of him. Umarak gets his revenge by smashing his skull in with a boulder when the hunter tries to steal his food. Trips decides if I post it.
Give him gali's crystal thingies on his legs
Give him 2015 kopaka's thighs on his wrists (with stickers applied)
Attache the smaller white shell piece to his lower upper arms with a balljoint
Give him a shield instead of a dinky peashooter
But remember what could of been!
>Bota Magna is more than just "lol it's a jungle planet and it was part of Spherus Magna"
>super advanced Vorox
>Maybe [spoiler]Annona would of had a set instead of being horrifying, blinding red.
The ending was very rushed
However a lot of things in g1 story were fucked. That alternate universe shit was retarded. The mystery and style of 2001-2003 best years, especially with MNOG 1&2
>tfw no insane reveal like Mata Nui being a giant robot for g2
>tfw barely any lore at all
Yeah, that's just what I needed. More clusterfucky entanglements where I likely have to read more extraneous bullshit online just to properly understand.
Just be glad the series actually got a finale of some kind at all. One with epic proportions no less. Most Lego themes just get abruptly cancelled and fade away before a single conflict is resolved.
It's third person so the immersion and atmosphere is fucked. Not to mention it's the most grind-y, scavenger hunt-y, monotonous bullshit in the world. The first part of the game is literally doing chores for Ga-Koro.
That inner shoulder build where the grey "hand" piece is connected on just one side with a 2m red axle is fucking disgusting. Literally every time I pose his arms the axles in his torso jostle around and I feel like his uniter bone is going to snap after prolonged wiggling. I've had technic connecters snap because of similar reasons and I just think it's a stupid design flaw.
Speaking of which, His shoulder pads are garbage. They constantly get in the way in his neck region, not to mention his head is restricted because of his fucking chin. And honestly, he shouldn't have had a single silver piece of armor. Neither Tahu nor Onua do, and Kopaka has to basically pretend to be a $15 tier Toa to not be shit. Fuck this set. 2015 one was way more poseable, sturdy, and appealing visually than this clusterfuck.
And his biceps. Why with the light grey? They could have easily used black for the technic bits but they figured fuck it, throw in another color.
It actually gave you the raw side of matoran culture and how they actually did stuff on the island first hand. Not to mention the villages were greatly expanded upon and as grindy as it was, Mnog2 felt more of like an actual game.
Not saying it's better but it wasn't shit.
No one notice that the top of the heads actually connect like a mask?
Just the top of umaraks head can be used as a mask
I sincerely think these are shit though, as the skull wave was.
The least they could do if they're going to give us the same pieces over and over is recolours. If there was a recolour of the big stormer/onus chest piece, attack from below claws and large and small beast feet id be content with these.
Maybe ribcage in a new colour too.
My main problem is that as models they look bad and as a parts pack I'm getting nearly nothing new.
If this is a fake it's the most convincing I've ever seen.
Never thought a fake leak was real before. I believe this is real, but I'm praying it isn't.
these are pretty damn preliminary, guys. My only qualms with them is that they're all humanoid again. Quake Beast looks baller as hell, The Destroyer looks great for being $5 above Kopaka/Melum and the masks we're getting look great.
>Tahu, Kopaka and Onua's masks in Umarak colours
>trans-blue Mask of Creation
>Beast Mode Mask of Control
Personally though, I'll just be forgetting about these until the final images surface. I barely have any in the Winter wave yet
The point is that he either has to stand straight up or fall over backwards. Even the angle in that image is too far back (the angle of the image hides that fact a bit, but the end of the socket (which is probably even further back with a friction extender) is very far behind the protector foot.
Standard Kopaka is so good why did you fuck him up like you did here? Replace the thigh's with Galis and swap his lower arms out for his old thighs thats all you need for him to be GOAT.
Here yuh go. Probably using the legs for something else. And now his spinny radar is more of a backpack.
Friendly notification that masks fit perfectly on necazilla.
Ok. Trip lost.
look at umarak the destroyer.
top of his head connects onto a regular head (its a mask) and the lower jaw connects behind his head.
if the beasts are the same then the top halves of their heads are masks.
it's a shame I have to rank 2005 so lowly. The titans were great. But the Hordika and Visorak being the main focus of 2005....
Them and the rahaga were easily the worst things to ever come out of Bionicle (but i don't even like comparing them to that because it was more like a fan service wave).
I would bet that had the Hordika and Visorak not turned a bunch of fans away from bionicle, there would never hve been as much of a steep decline in sales
That build was just sooo dead by the time 2009 came out. It was like just seeing the same shit for 3 years in a row.
2003 > 2001 > 2004 > 2002 > 2007 > 2005 > 2006 > 2009 > 2008 > 2010
Pieces wore and broke easily. I didn't really like the masks and heads. They weren't compatible with previous ones. The Agori were really bad sets out of the box (the worst of each years cheapest sets even, tying with Stars) and you couldn't do anything to make them good. Didn't really like the Glatorians and titans. The Glatorian, Toa set equivalents, didn't have to follow the one girl rule but did anyway. One gimmick across the board and Inika-like builds. Didn't really like the story.
I wish I didn't watch that.
First of all, it was a sharp turn from dark colours to vibrant ones. That was like wearing night vision goggles when someone opens the light. It looked terrible.
Secord, this fucked with almost everyone's part libraries as they were no longer able to expand their old ones or combine them with the new ones.
Third, the pieces had been used to death by then.
Four, the setting and characters people knew were replaced by unattachable, underdeveloped ones.
>Five, everything from the colours to the lack of edge screamed early elementary rather than the junior high level of "maturity" the series had reached up to that point. Reverting to a more child friendly level is a major offense in any franchise. Even more so when the fans have grown over the years.
Glatorian had the potential to become Frank Herbert's Mad Max the Barbarian. It was a clean slate to use as they saw fit without angering the devoted, moneycow, "mature" fans that were the majority of the franchise's consumer base. Instead they tried to initially reset the clock in everything but the build but without the worldbuilding that hooked most fans. And later they hamhandedly tied in the spinoff with the main series.
Tl;dr 2009 was a piece of shit with copious amounts of wasted redeeming potential.
2016 story -
Umarak fails to capture the creatures but finds the mask of control at some point. While confronting the creatures, he attempts to take control of them by putting on the Mask of Control.
The mask of control takes control of him, increases his strength and allows dead Makuta to use his power upped body however he wants.
The elemental energies on Okoto are disrupted because of the creatures and the more primal, destructive elemental forces of nature are unleashed.
Makuta's consciousness lingers since the mask of Ultimate Power was knocked off of him and his goal is to obtain the Mask of Creation to create himself a new body.
He believes if he has a new body he'll be able to take control of the mask of ultimate power this time.
All of you are silly, that trans-blue mask is a step above the new shitty masks we got that are impossible to MOC with. That trans-blue Ekimu mask looks great and I've been wanting a trans-blue mask for a long time.
They were sitting on their best idea and they never used it, and still haven't used it.
Everyone likes robots, and everyone likes dinosaurs. Robot dinosaurs just make sense!
>A chrome silver Hau was released in the BIONICLE Power Pack, a set exclusive to Universal stores.
So I'd say pretty damn rare. I've never seen it before now. How'd you get it?
They could be corrupted Ikir, Melum and Terak who then pound the three toa and corrupted their masks useless sending them to coma, leaving the Three small toa, their creatures and Ekimu to battle it out.
The further i get building umarak the destroyer the more i think these might be fake
he looks so bad so far, and im not sure there's a hand function at all, but just a thumb attached using that new gear piece
cant really find a reason why he would cost more than regular umarak either
He uses larger pieces. Three ribcages in total and the massive chest Onua has and more complex legs, also the claws are huge.
But I think he is the same cost as Kopaka and Melum, not $30
