Finally, here is Pohatu, with the boulder now attached to his leg. I didn't really like the flail weapon as is and a friend of mine joked about how it looked like the boulder was actually attahed to his ankle in one of my previous pictures and I though it was actually an excellent idea, so I kept it. Not sure about the 1x1 round plates on the chain though, I wanted to get them on here to make it look like the chain had crystals in it, but it doesn't look that good.

The family knows Bionicle's been my favorite thing for ages, and while they don't completely approve of my spending they seem okay with it. I started playing with Bionicles when I was around 9, and most of my cousins were just curious as to why I didn't like to play sports, or watch BET, or listen to rap music. My mom doesnt care so much, and was just happy I found a hobby. By ~13 years old, my dad gave up on me ever joining a sports team when I didn't make the cut for the football team, and just had a depressed look in his eyes whenever he saw me playing.

Got a prototype of kopaka's sword, not sure I'll keep it as is since it uses illegal connection for the hilt piece, but I prefer the look of both blades against each other. I may buy Gali first though, I haven't decided yet.

My parents aren't too fond of it, but as long as I'm just spending my own money, they don't really care. Especially since I showed them that the cost spread out across the year isn't even as high as it seems when I buy a bunch of sets at once.
My sisters and all friends who have seen it are generally pretty excited about my collection. I actually can't remember ever getting any really negative reactions.

Just got my 2016 Onua and I have to say I think I actually like the 2015 design more. I like the trans usage, bigger mask, and lack of stickers for 2016 but the design doesn't do it for me.

My opinion may change once I get terak however...

I've decided to remove all crystal elements from the Toa and keep them for the Creatures, so I'm digging a relic from the past for my Ultimate Kopaka's™ sword.
Once I get Kopaka and Melum I'll try to incorporate the set's sword hilt into mine too.

I'm changing Lewa's axes for another piece, this way each Toa has a unique mould for their weapon(s).

I can remember one instance where I had a fairly normie friend of mine and his girlfriend come in my house for a bit. As we were walking up the stairs to my room I thought to myself "I have all those 2015 sets displayed in my room" but I figured it's to late to avoid my room now so I just had to be cool about it and try not to look autistic. When we entered my room the sets were the first thing they noticed and my friend said something along the lines of "dude bionicles were the coolest" and honestly seemed impressed. His girlfriend was rather quiet about it, couldn't really tell what she thought of it. I mean, these are preliminary enough that they don't feature any blended pieces or prints, but yeah they are a bit iffy. Ekimu will look fine once the blending on the mask is added in, but Umarak's posing is really awkward and trans-neon green is such a garbage color.

I really like what you did with the exterior arms.
Very creative use of parts, and the uniformly bulky limbs coupled with the itty-bitty hands gives them a very "deep sea pressure suit" vibe.
Your attempt to give it a rotating action-feature antenna is applaudable, but ultimately misplaced

While I'm flattered you decided to use those legs, they were designed for very small, lightweight MOCs for a reason.
Mounted on a body that tall, and that far apart, they look like turkey-leg toothpicks.

In fact, that really sums up everything wrong with your MOC.
Everything is too wide and too empty.
You have some parts that -- on their own -- would be very nice, but when you try and mash them all together on that wide, gappy frame, it's all just a big mess.

Salvage the legs and arms, put the former on something more slim and gracile, put the latter on something completely beefy and filled out, and ditch the antenna.

Anyone else not feeling it this wave?

I mean, I'm glad Bionicle is back and they're using more technic builds this time, but the sets just seem so...generic I guess is the word I'd use. Whatever happened to all those cool names like "Bohrok" and "Rahkshi"? Instead we get names like "Skull Basher" and "Lava Beast".

Maybe it's because I haven't bought any from the 2016 wave yet, but I don't find myself getting excited compared to last year. I'll still buy a few because it's Bionicle, but I can't help but feel like Lego is taking it in the wrong direction in terms of story/characters.

If these are real, Umarak is by far the biggest disappointment, the Hunter is my favorite G2 figure, and this one doesn't seem to take much from him besides his leg build and the Mask of Control. How do we go from a bow to giant monster hands?

So looking at Umarak he has some slime shit coming off him the same color as he is, and there is slime shit featured in all the other sets. These leaked sets appear to have a version of the Star Drill with a socket instead of an axle hole. I'm not a fan of this so far, but Umarak the Shithorns has a nice fapping action feature.

I set myself up for disappointment with this guy, Umarak was so cool and I kind of expected this version to be a bigger version of the same thing. Once the shock value wore off he's kind of grown on me, the pose is absolutely terrible in his boxart and shitty perspective makes the proportions look terrible, he looks much better in Ekimu's boxart. upper legs look kind of short compared to lower legs but I think that's just a trick of perspective like the torso (which is actually really tall and decently proportioned), since it looks fine in Ekimu's boxart. Not crazy about the headpiece, but going to hope it's just the pose, which makes it look less intimidating than it should (the beasts end up looking far scarier) Hopefully the jaw can move.

We said the same thing about the skull crew and they turned out to be real (though with several adjustments in coloration like Skull Basher's torso).

General rule here is that the prelims always look like shit because lego has no idea how to pose sets, and in person things look a lot better (like with the skull crew). Printing should at least make the torso pieces look less bare.

Remember all the foreshadowing Lego did for the Bohrok before their official release? Remember how mysterious and alien they were, with their krana and the way they stopped at nothing to destroy everything on Mata Nui? Remember all those krana you could collect, and how each had its own name and power, plus the fact that there were active and dormant variants? It wasn't until years later that we finally learned their true purpose, but even in those early years there was so much room to speculate.

Compare that to the skull squad this generation. They had very little depth beyond "stop the Toa and steal their masks". The most foreshadowing we got was that hand coming out of the ground in the final shot of the early 2015 animations, but even when we did see them in action they get defeated relatively easily. The Bohrok, by comparison, needed the entire island of Mata Nui working together to be defeated, and even then they were essentially unstoppable until the Toa finally shut them down by imprisoning the queens. They felt like a real threat, which kept you on the edge as you watched everything unfold via the comics, web animations, books, and online games.

I wish Lego didn't simplify this gen so much. I miss the massive amount of world building we got from G1, from the comics to the online games to the books. I'm hoping they go back to it, but right now it looks like they'll keep everything as simple as they can.

Bionicles been doing this for ages now, its better than what we had early G1 where only 1 weapon piece ever becomes useful for MOCs and the others are too specialized to use for anything. I think people are just dissapointed because we expected so much from Umarak the destroyer, people wanted literally Grevious with antlers, but instead we got something completely different, which does explain why lego would release the same character twice in one year, as he has undergone a drastic appearance change.

Really the only thing I dont like about the beasts' are Lava Beast's lower legs. As much as I am dissapointed they are all bipedal, Lego has proved time and time again they cant make non-bipedal Bionicle sets for shit with CCBS, so this was probably the right decision. I am happy we arent just getting masks again and actually have beastial heads. and unlike last summer, we actually get three recolors for the overused headpiece (though still only two new head/mask pieces) instead of everything being silver with one gunmetal.

I actually legitametly like Storm beast a lot, small beast feet as hands is kind of awkward, but the overall silhouette is really menacing.

I really don't mind the beasts at all, Lava Beast's limbs are kinda shit, but Storm and Quake's aren't bad at all, I really like the thinner unarmored look, especially as one who really dislikes the CCBS armor they throw on everything, so these end up looking really cool to me. That being said, with the blurry image and lack of chest prints (as well as inability to really see what the head mold looks like in any sort of detail), its really hard to get a sense for these sets yet.

I think Quake beast looks pretty good (at least better than the other villain sets in the wave), and I do like lava beast from the waist up. Storm beast might have a weird gimmick that'll make it or break it like Skull Scorpio last year, and, knowing me, I'll like that.

Umarak's legs are just straight-up terrible, and I still can't believe they'd bother with Basher horns/Joker coat-tails for anything (I have some gunmetal bone spines from Scorpio for cases like these). Kinda wished his fingers weren't those spike pieces. Unfortunate since I enjoy the idea of his body being heavily transformed by power he can't comprehend.

Ekimu looks fantastic, even if his shoulder pads aren't on his arms anymore. I'll be keeping the burial mask on the Mask Maker Ekimu.

It's probably just me, but is anybody else kinda sick of leaks? I feel really burnt out. I think it's because I don't have any of the 2016 winter wave sets, so seeing these new things has just kinda killed it for me. They're preliminary, they feel preliminary, and I don't want to make a judgement on any of these until I've actually gotten the mask. I felt like talking about these sets and how shit they look, but after winter wave 2016 and when we finally have time to soak in those sets, everything seems to have moved on...

Exactly how I feel, it seems like we got excited for nothing. Last time, at least, my local store had the 2015 winter wave sets in stock when summer wave leaks came out, the same for summer wave '15 to winter wave '16, but now we have new leaks again. Since I didn't get the the current wave online, it just feels like I got sorta excited for nothing. The worst thing these leaks and the sets that are shown could do was create apathy. Hate is at least something you can do, but apathy is worse.

I know this is a longshot but here me out here, what if the purpose of that weird rod behind Storm Beast that connects to the shoulders is actually a part of a function that makes the claws slash when you use the swivel function? Makes sense for a character with menacing claws like that and explains the presence of such a piece.

I think the problem with circle shields is that they only look right when paired with certain weapons. 01 kopaka had a fairly light looking sword and a circle shield for some nice sword and board action, 2015 Kopaka had a spear, which is better paired with a tower shield like he had in that year. 2016 Kopaka only has a small shield to accompany his blaster since he now wields a very large double-bladed broadsword type weapon.

I know there is lots of friction in the new torso piece, but this guy's upper body is basically Umarak with 2015 Onua stacked on top of it, the bottom of the hulk chestpiece is nearly at the very top of the skull ribcage armor, not to mention the giant hands, how the hell is this supposed to be supported by that one little gear on the function.

It seems to be able to support 2016 Tahu's and Onua's bulkier chests in addition to a $10 set slapped on the back quite well. I'm sure it's capable.

I know we are in leak mode now, but I gotta say, the tightened masks on these new 2016 figures is so nice, you can actually moves the heads around without having to grab them awkwardly and move them carefully.

Looking closely, he retains so much of his previous form from the neck down, like his legs, toes, shoulder pads, and hell even the chain on his right shoulder, that Im actually really hyped for the set. Not to mention he looks menacing and the sickly neon green is a better upgrade IMO since Makuta is going to be a big neon orange and black set next year.
