It's because they're not the original cast. The choice of women was just to drum up support from "progressives" and use accusations of sexism to deflect any legitimate criticism.
Also because they think tumblr will give them money.
That unpleasantness aside, you still have the fact that none of the original writers are involved, and everything has been redesigned in the worst ways possible. They even made proton packs look utterly uninteresting.
And horizontal white and orange stripes across the chest? What the fuck were they thinking?
So no, this reboot has a lot more wrong with it than just the casting.
But always remember that new casts in a series like this will always be met with initial criticisms. Look at every Star Trek ever produced after TOS.
>>5397469 >to drum up support from progressives Every time I see someone bitching about this, it smacks of dishonesty. The only way to more clearly say "I am biased as hell against this, and probably a misogynist" is to just wear a t shirt.
Is the only possible reason for hiring women or blacks to kiss up to progressives? No, seriously. Is there any other reason? Because this is always the explanation, when that happens.
And, what is wrong with kissing up to progressives? It's not like they are belligerent assholes or child rapists, or anything. Every work of art picks and audience to speak to. What is wrong with picking one audience over another?
If Ghost Busters had a four sexy action heroes, or teenagers, or Muppets, would that be better than four moms? Each one of those is a hook for some social group. Why so salty because they picked four women?
>>5397469 This. Four unappealing women wearing unappealing costumes using unappealing proton packs riding around in an unappealing car. Yet no one is allowed to criticize any of it or else they get called MRA sexists. It's fucking nonsense.
>>5397533 Joke's on you, anon. I'm a progressive. I just happen to believe that basing your decisions on race, sex, gender, and/or sexuality is regressive as fuck.
>Is the only possible reason for hiring women or blacks to kiss up to progressives? No, seriously. Is there any other reason? Because this is always the explanation, when that happens. No, of course not. Unless you decide to replace the entire cast with them and then decide to deflect criticisms with "You're just a bigot!" Which is exactly what you're doing now.
>And, what is wrong with kissing up to progressives? It's not like they are belligerent assholes or child rapists, or anything. Every work of art picks and audience to speak to. What is wrong with picking one audience over another? So I take it I'm wasting my time here and responding to a complete troll at this point. Whatevs, I have the free time. The ultimate problem with picking one audience over another is that in this case you're picking an audience that had no interest in Ghostbusters over its well established fanbase. The filmmakers are free to do this, but don't pretend the old fans getting pissed off is unwarranted. They have every right to be mad and simply not enjoy the film.
< If Ghost Busters had a four sexy action heroes, or teenagers, or Muppets, would that be better than four moms? Each one of those is a hook for some social group. Why so salty because they picked four women? From a production standpoint, it would be just as bad. Replacing a well known and beloved cast always has negative repercussions among a fanbase. Maybe if you'd read my fucking post thoroughly you'd have gotten this point.
There's a very real possibility that this casting was politically motivated on some level. Even if it was purely a creative choice, politics are being thrown at anyone who disagrees. That's really shitty in of itself.
>>5397265 Fact remains, they are so afraid of the movie bombing that they are planning on making a ghost busters with an all men cast. Even the makers are afraid of losing money from this.
Look at it this way, makeup is more made for woman then men. They are a TARGET AUDIENCE. What if all the sudden they started to target men? They wouldn't do well with it. Not many men (If any) would actually go and buy makeup.
The ghost busters target audience were males, not females. Put two and two together here.
>>5397555 Progressivism is a unrealistic view on life. People like you just want change to happen quick. You just want to push your shitty views on everyone. Life doesn't work that way. If ghost busters had all men it would be better, it was originally four men, why all of a sudden does it have to be four women? You can see it is already causing problems. People who enjoyed the original movies see themselves as those characters. Now they don't see themselves in it anymore. They will not want to watch it. Movies are a business, not a political stand. You will see in the box office, this movie will not do well. I love the original movies, now that there are all woman I will not go and see it in theaters. I will wait till it goes to Netflix and I will probably fast forward through most of it. Many people will do this.
You are a fucking faggot neck beard, white knight, douche bag.
>>5397606 I've been lurking this board for damn near six years now, and I've been banned for avatarfagging on other boards multiple times. Yes, I know it's frowned upon. It serves a purpose in this case, however.
1. The nep images I posted so far have been fairly appropriate reaction images to the posts I've been quoting. 2. They serve to easily identify me, and that's better than making a trip that'd only be used once in a blue moon and only get me even more flack whenever I did so.
I'll stop if I must, but I honestly didn't want to create too much confusion in this thread as to who was who. Obviously from >>5397585's response, I've failed that mission.
>>5397667 I'd be inclined to agree with you if we weren't already posting in a doomed thread.
I don't even post that frequently here on /toy/, I usually just lurk. So no, I'm not some faggot who wants to go around /toy/ and shitpost with nep images.
You can argue that I'm shitposting in this thread, sure, but I'm genuinely replying to someone I think it a genuine faggot, because I genuinely hate the new cast, new direction, new designs, and all of the cries of bigotry if anyone dares speak against them.
And I am every bit the petty faggot to argue over this on anonymous imageboards whenever I see it.
>>5397691 >Giving a rat's ass about what I identify as when I don't hold the same views as the regressive fucks who push their shitty ideology into everything and insist on censoring anything they don't agree with >Being aware of and accepting the consequences of a bannable offense means I should never ever do a thing again >Not wanting to have some regressive SJW faggot's posts mistaken for my own is attention whoring
I don't have a snappy pun image macro. Have an Entei instead.
>>5397278 >Some men are scared that women might be viewed as equals No man fears this. Women will never be viewed as equals because they're simply not, and no amount of SJW's pushing the notion on society will make it so. Ask any man in the military and he'll tell you how badly women drag them down. They cannot keep up physically or mentally, leaving the men to have to pick up their slack.
If not for laws made and enforced by men, women wouldn't even be able to take a step outside their homes without being gang raped on a daily basis. Equal? Hahaha not even close.
>>5397469 >Even if they were all men the fans would bitch.
Not necessarily. Back during the Sony e-mail leaks they said there'd be a second Ghostbusters movie being made by Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt that would be made for guys to balance out the chick version. A lot of people were excited for that one because they said it'd be "darker." It was canned however.
>>5397994 >Who the hell thought Ghostbusters was a boys franchise? Its a family film for Vigos sake. Its not a for boys/girls issue. Indeed, it doesn't help that the Fembusters look like one-to-one translations of the originals. I mean, are they seriously going to give us Fem-Venkman, Fem-Ray, Fem-Winston, and Fem-Egon?
Now this is just a theory, but looking at the Ghostbusters reboot and current merchandise, I'm thinking the plan is to use the movie as a platform to jump into a television series. Something that can sell more adult collectibles.
>>5398607 >Does anyone seriously believe that Hollywood, one of the world leaders in profit-making, would mistakenly pander to a group that won't help them turn a profit because they were tricked by Tumblr? You seem like you're new in the world of what Hollywood does.
>>5398879 Yeah that was a publicity stunt gone badly wrong. Those kids are too young to give a shit about the original movie The new movie isn't even out Those kids are clearly way too sick for this to be cute and so it's just depressing. You're meant to interact with the kids not pose over them like they're props.
Let me explain why Female Ghostbusters is bad for everyone involved:
Let's say the movie is utter crap. Bombs in the box office, the whole nine yards. Average people waste money on another crappy movie, the Ghostbusters fandom is dragged through the mud, the female comedian's careers are basically ended, and the people who made the film lose a lot of money. Lose for everyone.
But let's say the movie does well to okay. What happens then? Hollywood, being Hollywood, will follow any trend that does well and milk it until it's a dead horse. Remember the explosion of superhero movies? Imagine that, but with subpar remakes of classic films with genderbent leads. This will also set the precedent that women can't create and be the stars of their own stories, but that they have to take the stories of men and stick themselves in. The movie industry becomes even more sexist, with women shoehorned into retreading male work, and movie franchises ruined for fans by genderbent reboots rather than sequal reboots.
>>5402975 It's also important to make the distinction between Remakes and reboots:
Remakes only work if technology/funding at the time wasn't high enough to make the movie good. However, bad movies don't get remakes, so it's very rare to find actually good remakes. The Fly, Parent Trap, Scarface, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray, are some that retread the original story well when most don't.
Reboots, on the other hand, are great. They reexamine the world and story of the original, introduce new characters and themes, and feature cameos and small parts by the originals, all without stepping on the original story and original characters. SWVII The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and others can don't invalidate previous films of their series/franchise.
Remakes aim to replace the originals, while Reboots are content to stand in front of them and refresh the franchise, without stamping out the original's faded territory.
Now, if INSTEAD this movie was inspired by and done in the same style/spirit of Ghostbusters, not just the same script with the sexes switched around, then it could do quite well. Imagine instead a story of four zombie hunters/exorcists, with a generally light hearted comedy feel? Same kind of base premise (four friends fight the supernatural in a comedy) but different enough to be it's own work.
Fuck, I'D watch a comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as traveling zombie hunters who get into hi-jinks and are barely competent enough to succeed (just like in Ghostbusters) and ultimately save the world from the zombie apocalypse or something. Have some hot guy who recently turned into a zombie (but still conscious) become a love interest for one of the gals
Ta-da! a movie that'd make everyone happy (or at least not mad)
>>5402975 >>5402982 except, as with most things feminist, if left unchecked it will spread and spread until there's nothing left to enjoy EXCEPT feminist propaganda. Anything that does star males (and eventually even features straight males) will be labeled as sexist or misogynist or racist or classist or whatever they come up with next.
Think about the crap that the Hobbit (LOTR a bit too, but mostly the Hobbit) got and still gets for being mainly a sausage fest of a story. If it weren't for Galadriel and Tauriel (Neither of which were in the book, though Galadriel who makes sense with dealing with the Necromancer and Tauriel was made just for the movie) there wouldn't even be any named female characters in the entire film trilogy! (except possibly Bard's daughter, though...)
Tolkien's work is a product of the time he wrote them and the reasons he had for writing them. As a linguist in early-mid twentieth century Britain, the stories were merely vessels for his faux history and linguistics theories and experimentation.
3/2 because fuck it.
Basically the point of contention is remake versus reboot.
A Genderbent remake is bullshit and pandering. A Genderbent reboot is able to succeed or fail based off it's own merits.
TFA, while sharing MANY traits/plotlines from A New Hope, is solidly a reboot rather than a remake. A New Hope isn't made obsolete by The Force Awakens.
I won't say it's outright bad, because I know that some of the cast is actually funny, and Paul Fieg isn't a bad director.
But, I don't think Fieg is the correct choice for GB, and I do think they went with an all-female crew to appeal to tumblr. I don't think it's the worst thing ever, but I'm more confused why they didn't ry and just do a modernized Extreme Ghostbusters. That show was insanely progressive (hispanic, black, handicapped, and a chick), and it was well done. It made sense. Also I don't think I like the new Ecto 1. Yeah, it's a Cadillac, but the previous one was an ambulance, not a hearse. I think that Ramis was pretty much the last bastion of defense against studios just wanting to rush out a product. Again, Fieg isn't bad, just not the right choice for this movie.
