The ultimate problem with picking one audience over another is that in this case you're picking an audience that had no interest in Ghostbusters over its well established fanbase. From a production standpoint, it would be just as bad. Replacing a well known and beloved cast always has negative repercussions among a fanbase. Maybe if you'd read my fucking post thoroughly you'd have gotten this point.

There's a very real possibility that this casting was politically motivated on some level. Even if it was purely a creative choice, politics are being thrown at anyone who disagrees. That's really shitty in of itself.

The publicity for this movie and the response from certain parties has killed any intention i had of seeing this movie.

Let me explain why Female Ghostbusters is bad for everyone involved:

Let's say the movie is utter crap. Bombs in the box office, the whole nine yards. Average people waste money on another crappy movie, the Ghostbusters fandom is dragged through the mud, the female comedian's careers are basically ended, and the people who made the film lose a lot of money. Lose for everyone.

But let's say the movie does well to okay. What happens then? Hollywood, being Hollywood, will follow any trend that does well and milk it until it's a dead horse. Remember the explosion of superhero movies? Imagine that, but with subpar remakes of classic films with genderbent leads. This will also set the precedent that women can't create and be the stars of their own stories, but that they have to take the stories of men and stick themselves in. The movie industry becomes even more sexist, with women shoehorned into retreading male work, and movie franchises ruined for fans by genderbent reboots rather than sequal reboots.

Fuck, I'D watch a comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as traveling zombie hunters who get into hi-jinks and are barely competent enough to succeed (just like in Ghostbusters) and ultimately save the world from the zombie apocalypse or something. Have some hot guy who recently turned into a zombie (but still conscious) become a love interest for one of the gals

(except possibly Bard's daughter, though...)

I have a few issues with the new Ghostbusters.

I won't say it's outright bad, because I know that some of the cast is actually funny, and Paul Fieg isn't a bad director.

But, I don't think Fieg is the correct choice for GB, and I do think they went with an all-female crew to appeal to tumblr. I don't think it's the worst thing ever, but I'm more confused why they didn't ry and just do a modernized Extreme Ghostbusters. That show was insanely progressive (hispanic, black, handicapped, and a chick), and it was well done. It made sense.
Also I don't think I like the new Ecto 1. Yeah, it's a Cadillac, but the previous one was an ambulance, not a hearse.
I think that Ramis was pretty much the last bastion of defense against studios just wanting to rush out a product.
Again, Fieg isn't bad, just not the right choice for this movie.
