This is late night /lg/. Where we can be free to talk about whatever the fuck we want and call each other fags if we feel like it. Also not like anyone generally posts anything at this hour anyways, usually.

In other words, go back to those places if they are safer spaces for you.
>>
So I'm trying to build an original spaceship. Like the Ebon Hawk or Millennium Falcon for some minifigures. Problem is I don't know any fancy building techniques. All I wind up Making is a flying brick and it's pretty sad. Can anyone help show me how to make a nice non-blocky siding and top? I've tried 3 or 4 different builds now and I'm just getting frustrated. I keep looking at mocs for inspiration but I can't figure out how any of it was put together.

A lot of my collection came from 1996-2005.
>>
>>5404369
Make the skeleton out of technic and build out.
>>
>>5404372
How? How would I connect my bricks to the technic? How would I avoid a blocky look? Despite playing for nearly 20 years I know next to nothing.
>>
>>5404381
look at the instructions of recent sets similar to what you are making online.
>>
>>5404381
Figure out the general geometric shape of the thing you want to make is, and try and replicate it in technic. Use LEGO Digital Designer.

Experiment with different things. Find a set you like that's somewhat similar and see what the LEGO designer did.

With technic you can use pieces like http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=4274#T=C and put plates and such at interesting angles.
>>
>>5404388
Adding to this, sometimes the directions aren't super helpful for visualizing how something is done. Eurobricks has a thread that's entirely devoted to people posting LEGO Digital Designer files for official sets, so you can open the set you want in LDD and pull it apart piece by piece to see how it works, if you want.

For brick shaping I've found that hinged bricks and plates are really good, though I keep my stuff to midi scale.
>>
>>5404416
Those are fine for the smaller scales but they don't support a ton of weight.
>>
>>5404416
Fuck I have loved that design since you started posting it. Done it in full scale yet (if thats even possible)?
>>
>>5404419

For angled paneling, the trick they use on the FO Snowspeeder and the KR Command Shuttle is really cool on a large scale. They use the 1x4 hinged bricks, or whatever they're called, and make angled walls that they then attach plates too. Easy to build off of, and very sturdy.

Hinged bricks work well but you're right that at larger scales they can only hold so much. Still good for angling and paneling, though.

>>5404420

Hey, thanks!

I haven't built it in real life yet because I'm still not totally satisfied with how stable it will be when I build it (it's becoming less of a problem, I'm fairly certain it will hold up) and that I keep trying to improve the looks. I overhauled the body and made it two studs wider, and it looks a lot better.

If by full scale you mean something on the scale of the enormous $100 one, I would probably just try to replicate what Jang did.
>>
>>5404413
Thanks, but I look at it now and feel like there's lots of useless crap all over the place. The middle section will not be stable at all, and I want to make the rear part an actual mech that can be removed.

My teeth are currently the main thing in my body that are fucked beyond redemption, and im stuck with nigger rigged insurance, which barely covers tooth extraction, and for sure does NOT cover oral surgery. My only option right now is to let college students do my dental work, and considering when my mom had tongue cancer, they extracted ALL the teeth on THE WRONG SIDE OF HER MOUTH, and they currently BROKE THREE TEETH on my stepmoms jaw when she just needed one extracted.....and are now arguing who pays for it before they fix what they are contractually obligated to fix.......yeah.

My GF is def going to outlive me more than likely. Find what happiness when and where you can.

Also, US of A here. Thanks Obama. Why not force dental and eyes shit to be the same shit as regular health shit as part of obamacare, especially since teeth can kill you quicker than a lot of other health shit can.

>>
>>5404208

It is pretty clear when a set has features that are meant to be entertaining or appealing, or just meant to be functional to kids. An adult can still recognize these features based on what they would have liked as a kid themselves.

Like a Nexo Knight set like Clay's Blade thing has way more playability with all the little connecting vehicles and missile launchers and moving parts, than say a Modular building, which is more meant to just look really nice as a display piece.

Planning out a modular-style industrial building, but I'm clueless as to what they should manufacture.
What sort of generic boring Lego City items could be made on the second floor here? I'm thinking car parts and/or engines, though it might be a bit cramped space.
>>
>>5405040
Gonna go with Robin. While BM is mostly the same as on Chaos charriot, he's generic enough to be made a mook or commander on the army. Brave sir Robin is just a kid in a shiny armor.

Now, keep in mind that I haven't seen the show yet, nor do I have any idea what the Nexo powers do, so I could be wrong. Maybe the kids will love Robin.

And speaking of shelfwarming, it's pretty funny to me that more or less every store in one chain here is fully stocked with Tydiriums and Poe's X-wing. They just don't sell, and stuff rarely, if ever, gets discounted here.

Here in Australia we finally got (some of) the new sets today.

Went to the store an hour before closing and the guy had only just started putting them on shelves. Heard him suggest to somebody else that they come back tomorrow because he'll be done by then.

I thought that there's no way he'd be that slow, so I did some other shopping and came back ten minutes before closing.

He'd shelved all of one set by then, one of the buildable figures.
>>
>>5405079
On the positive side, though, at least I know they'll be there tomorrow.

Robin it the inventor in the garage.

>>
>>5405084
But anon, they look a little bit too bulky and a swirl is a interesting feature too.
And to be honest these ultimates are not bought because of the brick. Than the sets are way too expensive.
These ultimates are bought because of the characters and not all customers are builder but regular kids/anons too.

Emerald Night drive train.jpg

I have the Emerald night from years ago which was sat intact inside of a box in my cupboard, just recently pulled it out and set everything up but it's not working as intended.

The top speed is about half to 2/3rds of what I see in Youtube videos of it and at lower speeds it has a very jerky motion where it stops for a split second before jumping forward some distance in a rhythmic motion, just for reference this doesn't happen when the wheels are only in contact with the air and it only happens when running normally on the rails. Anybody experienced enough to know what bit might be the cause of this problem in particular? I'm effectively a newb with Lego so I'm at a loss for what might be causing it.

I don't know how to react. On the other hand I only paid like 17 euros per set and I only really wanted the minifigs. On the other Plo Koon is kinda in a shitty condition and some of the most major stickers are coming off and they arrived pre-built.

Thats sounds bad.
I dont know how i would react.

Was one of the defects listed?
If it was labeled as "used", i would say loose studs happens.
Stickers on bricks, ok, but already peeling more than just one corner and only slightly should be listed.
And if the minifig has bite mark is a note worthy listing.

While writing i would complain about it all but only demand some compensation for Plo Koon since its the one thing that is more like "heavy used" or "the dog chewd on it"

Cant really help you, only send you some

Are your wheels quartered properly? If you have the coupling rods angled at 180º from each other the wheels will lock up. The coupling rods must be mounted at 90º from each other to facilitate smooth movement.

This video shows quite clearly how the wheels' coupling rods are mounted at 90º from each other. The engine moves slowly, but this is because of the pneumatic valves and cylinders being unmodified and acted on by friction. If you make a set of wheels quartered properly it'll roll quite smoothly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yIPX2liuwg
>>
>>5405045

It sure looks technicy and skeletal.. not sure what else to say about it. You could use some connectors to build the sides on a ninety degree angle maybe?

If you want to build a spaceship for a bunch of minifigs I recommend sitting/standing the minifigs in what's going to be the floor, and building around them. Make a boxy/blocky thing, it doesn't matter, then add greebling or swap out pieces over the course of the next few days. Relax, it's supposed to be fun instead of OH GOD THIS THING I BUILT IS CRAP HOW DO I DO BETTER

The other things i would expect as "used" only the damage is more like "damaged" thats why i would try to get some compensation.
If you dont want to go full anger or want long conversations, write a mail about it to the seller complaining and advise him to extra mention such things because it goes beyond normal kid us. Not about compensation, just to write your anger from your soul to let him know.
It might help future builders and at least if you wrote it, it cant last on you soul shoulders.
Sorry just my shitty advise.

Well, from what you said, it looks like motor can't deliver enought power to properly move the train. It can be either bad powersource or smth inside motor (or gears), like dust or hair. Also it colud be grease became solid %%i don't know, is there are any grease at all in lego motors lol%%, but it is very unlikely and would fix itself after running it a few minutes. I would rebuild it from scratch. and if nothig changes, i would disassemble motor and look if it needs a cleanup or repair. Altough, i can't really imagine a lot of dust/fur/hair has got inside of lego motor.

That was because fans demanded it.

I bet Ninago is kinda powered by the Turtles series which started 2012 too, the kung fu panda movies from before and the series i think was at the end of 2011.

So the Ninja or Kung fu is present in the kids and so interest in Ninjago was still there.

So i guess the series manifested itself in kids popculture.
And you see in many films fight scenes.

If you ask me, i think Nexo will just go as Chima goes.

Its just my guess after seeing it so far in context with what is popular with kids.

>>5406827
Do we know it was a failure?
As far as i know it was ok. Strong sold on vehicle sets, normal on playsets, poorly on the speedors.
Problem was Ninjago pushed it back. So there wasnt anything left than go for Ninjago, strong ip with very good sales, than for Chima doing Ok but in longterm with special sculpts helmets.
Thats why they did the cyborgs and more human minis.
Just my personal bullshit on it.

>>5407166
Yes the character distribution was bad.
Maybe this was one thing that slowed down the line to cross from ok sales into good sales.
But as far as i read and heard from kids it was that there were too many certain characters.
