Here ya go.
I'd try a silicone wig cap. If you don't have one you can get self stck Velcro at a hardware store and cut little strips of the hook side to put on the head to grab the wig.
Wig might be too small but I had a SD16 with a Volks wig made for her size that would pop off without a wig cap, but it fits fine with something to grip. Make sure it's not folded under anywhere too, that can fuck up the fit. I line up the front and center of the wig and use long tweezers to gently pull down the edges of the if it's not spreading out properly enough to get all the way on
Looking into getting my first doll soon. I really like Isabel here, but are there any other companies that make more anthro style (read: not just humans with cat ears) dolls I should look into before I fall too much in love?
I'll try the things you said, thanks. I didn't realise a silicone cap could be useful for tight wigs; I thought they were just for loose ones.
I'll have to do it tomorrow, though. I think I'm too tired right now to do anything doll-related without fucking up.
DearMine has some fantastic anthros in every size. Luts is also experimenting in different sizes for their Zuzu Delfs. Pipos are super cute, though.
Thanks, I'll have to check those out, too. I would be absolutely sold on Isabel, but Pipos clothing selection seems a bit lacking and I'm nowhere near experienced enough to know what else will fit. She's 60 cm, so that's about 1/3 scale, right?
are there any things you are supposed to avoid when putting on a wig? like pulling on the fibers or some thing?
and how can i straighten tight or short areas like the fringe?
sorry if these are common sense
Hold on to the edges of the wig cap when you put the wig on to prevent hair pulling. Buy a soft tooth brush and use it to smoothers down any fly away hairs.
If you have a wig that's so tight it keeps popping off I suggest buying a pack of white balloons and cutting the stem off of them. Use it just like you would a silicone wig cap but since it's so thin it will fit underneath the wig and five it something to grip on.
>and how can i straighten tight or short areas like the fringe?
You can use a 1/2'' flat iron (or even better: travel sized) on the lowest heat to straighten heat-resistant fiber wigs. An alternative method, ideally for synthetic wigs, is to dip the wig in warm (but not hot) water, brush out, and hang to dry.
>tfw had enough koala shekels to buy a certain oversized figma till the current exchange rate fucked me over.
>I never ever want to pay over my 1k gst free import privilege.
All i can do is funpost and wait till volks releases an oversized figma i want before 2017.
I'll give it a month. If our shekels doesn't recover. i'll just buy it.
I just want to own a meme dollfie
To be honest I don't knoe. The way it works afaik is packages only become taxable if the value is over 1k. The idea is that beyond that it's normally a commercial quantity of something thus taxable at 10%.
I've never hit that amount and most Aussies who aren't importers know to avoid it since paying taxes causes more abos to appear.
I had a doll come in December that was easily worth 1,500 AUD but was marked as around 1,000 USD. Nobody said a thing, no taxes, nothing. But I hear they're planning to add some kind of tax on every single package over $10, I don't know anything about it though.
newfag here but ive been in the hobby for almost a year. i just wanted to say that im brimmed with joy after seeing this thread because i REFUSE to be associated with the community lmao. im still in a state of culture shock even after living in the states for like 5 years, and westerners are so bratty and fucking weird. i dont want thear behavior and especially their pastel uke shota dolls near me.
rant aside, im glad to know theres at least some place here on the internet who share the same sense of humor as me, and also like this niche hobby. dare i say something elsewhere the sjws will come up with some shit reasoning that im racist against white people or im advocating pedophilia for liking tits on dolls.
>the sjws will come up with some shit reasoning that im racist against white people
That's not usually what they......ah nevermind. Welcome to the thread anon, I find most of the doll community irritating too but it really depends on how/who you associate with (also flickr is nice since you can just find people who upload good content and follow them without having to deal with other shit..but less doll people use flickr these days than before.)
was my tumblr impression spot on?
actually, youre right. ive been on that website since 2010 and i think its time to move on. i did lurk around flickr a couple of months back, but as you said, its stagnant over there. instagrams a good place tho, but tracking tags is a nightmare because everythings glitter pastel uke boys, which isnt what im into.
a friend of mine has a moth theme going on with one of her dolls and it's fantastic but im not sure if that's the kind of thing you're talking about.
this has to be me being a lesbian if anything but where are my bjd yuris, i need more cute girls doing hot things w/ each other. i dont mind bjd yaoi as much but not when it's lowkey shotacon.
Yeah, that kind of thing! I'd love to see the moth-themed doll if you are comfortable pointing me in that direction.
I've been trying to pose bugs with my 1/6 scale doll because it makes the bugs look giant and it's part of muh original character donut steel. I want them to look like housepets. I haven't found many people who have done that before.
i really want to see more yuri dolls, too.
I'm the OP who normally makes the new threads (thanks for taking over this one, I was feeling like shit at the end of last week).
I'm a stickler for grammar, not spelling. Together, you and I could rule the world!
Welcome! Where are you from, dollfriend?
easy mode, with the majority being DDs, not like they have much choice there.
I think Amazon. Hobby Lobby stocks it, but they can shelfwarm a bit before someone buys. I've recently cracked open a two year old package of milliput and it worked fine. Perhaps it's the climate of the area you're in or bad batches.
The custom general may be able to provide more insight.
Jfc Tokyopop. Let's tell weebs about BJDs that sell in extremely limited numbers.
>world of warcraft
>looks like a resinsoul in a mohair wig lying down in the background
>BC Collector's Edition
ngl, I'm jealous. Oddly, I can justify spending thousands of dollarydoos on resin and stuff, but can't for something like that, since I have the game already.
But yeah, I'm tired of seeing Resinsoul WoW characters. Even if they have different resin colors, they look like shit.
Yeah, but those IOS dolls based on anime characters sell out rather quickly or have a small ordering period. Also the new weebs will bawwww about the price, get referred to cheaper alternatives, and another generation of sock dress, bright-colored fur wig, sharpied faceup ResinSoul/Bobobie abominations will be born.
best bowie bjd coming through. rip starman ;-;
This person has some great Bowies.
That Jareth outfit, tho. Damn.
>tfw filled with satisfaction over the completion of one of your dolls
i added some skin texturing to my venitu and his cuteness level is now out of control. i'm going to enjoy this moment until pictures of other people's better looking dolls make me feel shitty about my own again, as they always eventually do.
Hng, I have those (or very similar) DollBakery eyes, but in 14mm. They are gorgeous.
Also, if you're happy with your doll, don't compare him to others. FWIW, he looks clean and well put together. Loving that wig, too.
I guess if you ever feel bad about him, there are thousands of shitty doll pics out there.
thanks guys! i absolutely love these dollbakery eyes, the color is so deep. i really want to get more eyes from them, its kind of driving me nuts that she hasn't updated yet. (not that i have the money to buy any eyes right now though)
and yeah, he's my most "normal" looking doll. he's just supposed to be a sweet boy next door type. i have a faggy, girly minifee mirwen boy with a pink mohawk so i am not free from the sin of weeb fujoshit stereotypes, but at least my other boy dolls are regular guys, haha.
i was inspired to add more detail to him because i saw ruggedrealism's newest venitu faceups and they were just so gorgeous and alive and they made me feel like a lazy piece of a shit. her style is just so great, and she's improved so fucking fast its mind boggling. i feel like a no talent scrub in comparison.
>finally gets doll I've been waiting on
>while dressing her, constantly fear like I'll break something because new joints are stiff
>Has nightmares that she will fall over
>puts her in sitting position and goes back to sleep
I hope this is normal, I'm so happy and terrified at the same time. Pic related.
These dolls/dolls in general are pretty much made for people to project unto or roleplay, one could assume that the owner creates a doll/character with "defects", or simply someone hurt and troubled, in regards to their own problems. Right?
And even just roughly knowing how MSbP works, is it not easy to figure out one major reason why this aesthetic has taken form..? Mental health problems is not in the decline per se.
And validation from the internet is huge these days.
I could also go on about the need some have to copy others (more famous doll owners, whom have dolls in this style) in hopes to gain fame too... Que snowball effect.
can you imagine working in a hospital and seeing this shit? i would be calling the mental ward asap to have someone come and evaluate the patient.
though, is that even a hospital? the door doesn't look like one you'd see in a hospital. tumblr scum have been caught pretending illnesses and hospital stays, anyone can tape tubes to their hands and take a pic for efam and asspats these days.
I too spent a long time "wanting to see an Excellen repaint" for the same reason, and was not disappointed, pic related.
Wouldn't most hospitals make you remove bangle bracelets before putting IVs in you anyway? Though if that's the real shit and she's got the money for a $6k bracelet maybe she's in a private care facility rather than a regular hospital. They tend to look much more like a nice hotel suite, just with a hospital bed in it instead.
that hasnt been my experience at all anon. theres a surplus of nice things for yo-sd's not so much SDs and MSDs that arent the same ratty emo shyt or cost a fortune.
where are you looking?
anybody have experience with tata's paradise? I ordered from them a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything from them. I tried contacting them on their site but they haven't replied.
also there's malware on the "album" part of their site, fucking hell.
Wondering if you guys can help me. I have a MIB Pullip Fourrure I want to sell.
I've looked around and can't find any reference for how much she's worth, nor do I know where the best place to sell her might be. Thanks in advance.
To that anon in the last thread: Meme the lamb is up on Taobao! Dark skin was available yesterday, but isn't there today, so I hope it comes back up soon.
Because she can be a piece of shy but no one else can. Didn't she close commissions in like.... Last April? How aren't we hearing more from the people whose shit she has?
why all those women on the net have anxiety disordesr or that sort of shit ?
Is it bad to be well ajusted and happy nowaday?
What I'm never going to understand is how a woman with such peculiar fetish (terminally ill boys in pastelshit) could get such a huge following and imitators.
I don't understand kids these days...
it looks very well done...
You're certainely not worse than other doll painters IMO.
So either you're really un confident which I'll answer you have no reason to...
Or you're fishing for compliments and this is bad and you should atone by repainting my Ipple SID for free.
Haha yeah, I thought the same thing.
Yeah, you're a human being, but that doesn't excuse you from responsibilities like the rest of us too. It's like accountability does not exist for tumblr users.
I think some of the new dolls she's been acquiring or whatever have been partial trades for her services. Probably wishful thinking she isn't using her doll's preorders to binge order her new dolls.
She's gonna be in deep deep shit if she doesn't deliver with her doll. I still think the niggerlips on Coffee look like she was trying to poorly emulate MH sculpts.
naw man i just don't have much confidence when i see other artists that i've been following seem to explode in talent and kills in what seems like only a few months while i've been painting dolls for years with slow improvement in comparison. i think any artist probably feels this way. but it is also one of the many reasons i've lost interest in doing commissions. i feel like i only do my best work when i paint my own dolls, where i have complete freedom to experiment. i feel like i can't improve doing commissions, as in the end, every face i'm asked to do is the same, male or female. "light minimal blushing in natural tones. smokey eyes. brown, neutral expression eyebrows. not too long eyelashes in a dark color. natural lips."
i want to do heavy blushing and shading, use blues purples and greys for a touch of realism, i want to do skin texturing, and on the other side of the spectrum i also i want to do strange crazy makeup, i want to have fun.
anyway, enough ranting. i have some more blank heads coming in (extra faceplates and event heads) to play with. the only issue is trying to sell them in a timely fashion once i'm done. somethings i paint sell in an instant, others languish forever on the market place, i can never guess ahead of time how it will go.
>She's gonna be in deep deep shit if she doesn't deliver with her doll.
What makes you think that? It's not like anyone has really raised hell at this point, and it's already been waaay too many months of excuses and new dollies. Her constituents are probably as nuts as she is.
They're pretty and historically full lips are seen as attractive (see: The Pre-Raphaellite definition of beauty, maybe not quite so full but humans don't exactly have eyes that big either. Anon is just a cunt.
you'd be best off to ignore those sort of comments.
racists arent going anywhere but you can enjoy your life all the same.
I wanna know why the fuck it is that so many artists in the BJD hobby seem to have these kinds of mental breakdowns regularly and their fans let them get away with it time and again. Yes artists are human, but if you agree to do work for someone, you still have to do it! Especially when money is involved.
If you can't do the work, back out and don't take peoples' money and then string them along for months on end.
Some people who do assorted kinds of craftsmanship/art for BJDs have no formal art training or small business management training to teach them that it's going to be absolute shit and they can't handle it.
The other problem is the ever-pervasive Dunning-Kruger effect where incompetent people do not realize that they are incompetent.
People make fun of her because she's as white as it can get and the look of her dolls is copied from dolls she already owns, which all have a very stereotypical "black woman" look going on.
Also LOL, she also goes on about the whole "hurrdurr David Bowie was a pedophile" thing, bet she thinks he's a rascist too because of the Thin White Duke persona (despite having a black wife).
Unlike her lazy fat ass he actually inspired people and made them feel better when LGBT was still in baby shoes.
I'm just appalled that she thinks it's okay to KEEP THE FUCKING DOLLS. You crazy bitch, send it back and refund them. I'm always worried for the people whose shit she has. What if she an heroes? Where do the dolls go? I feel like back home realistically is not the answer. I'm glad you guys stopped me from commissioning her months ago. I could have been one of these TERRIBLE, impatient clients who has the nerve to ask for their doll back after over six months.
It's interesting, I'm like the total opposite.
I'm sure without commissions I wouldn't have done so many different things because for my own dolls I like a certain look while my customers want all kinds of crazy shit from me.
Of course I have certain things that are very popular and I need to do more often too, but it's okay.
I'm a bit lucky though because I know many of my customers and they are often into gore/horror, something I LOVE to do but don't like on my own dolls.
On top of that they have dolls I would never buy but can still look and customize through commissions.
Have to say though, this started when I mostly got bigger commissions, as in, not just a face-up but a whole package (moddings, airbrushing, scars, tattoos, face-up for one doll).
The "just face-up" commissions tend to be pretty tame, but I rarely do them.
Not only does she keep the dolls, she goes WEEKS or longer without any contact whatsoever. Apparently checking in once in a while to let people know you are taking care of their property is too much. She has to make friends do it for her.
It's funny, because Kayke's schtick is that she went through ~art school~ and all that jazz and is so far in debt with student loans for it.
...Yet she keeps buying dolls and runs from responsibility. What kind of pansy-ass art school did she go to?, because her reactions to concrit are incredibly DA-tier.
IIRC, she took preorders at BJDC for Coffee too, which is a con catered the old lady fashion doll demographic of the BJD scene. Yeah, most of the people publicly going on about how they preordered Coffee are her friends, which will probably be more 'understanding' since they put up with her shit on a normal basis.
>wah my feelings are hurt on 4chan, pity me
TBF, it's her attitude. She's just like, ~OMG I LOVE BLACK PEOPLE THEY ARE SO GORGEOUS~ with her dolls and makes a big fucking deal about it. Makes me think she's trying to compensate for something and garner attention to how ~not racist she is~.
I don't get why she's unable to just fucking stop this whole bullshit.
Yes, being sick sucks, I get that.
However, people don't owe you anything after they gave you money and their doll, you owe them something.
Should they show a bit of patience? Yes.
But there are limits.
Instead of whining that people are mean for expecting their commission done in a timely manner, and when this is not possible at least proper communication, she should just stop taking them.
If she's too sick to take care of anything else but herself she should accept that.
Don't expect others to deal with your illness, deal with it yourself and don't bite off more than you can chew.
It's not like she all of a sudden went from healthy to "got hit by a car and I'm a cripple now".
adding to that, if commissions are her only income she needs to limit that too.
Commissions AND making a doll and taking pre-orders for it are too much.
If you need commissions as income keep it to commissions, all other resources should go to your health in such a case.
She just has zero clue about how to deal with things like an adult.
And of course KaseyR/Steviemcface agrees with her.
Customers ARE dicks sometimes but you also need to understand that they are customers, not friends.
If you can gladly hold open your hand to take their money you should at least do your part of the deal too.
She used to be a serious racist, so yeah it is overcompensation. Your typical fat, white trash from the south kind of racist. Nothing too unusual if you're from the south, but tl;dr she got called out and has been trying to repent and hide her past ever since.
It's frustrating to watch her (attempt to) function. It's even more frustrating that she's surrounded by people who encourage her behavior. I get mad for the people whose shit she has on their behalf, but I can't really do anything about it since it's not my doll/my business.
Yep, he's a madagascar hissing cockroach. The the other roach I have, Julie, is too skittish to be posed easily but I want to get better lighting and keep trying.
It doesn't help that I'm still learning to get doll poses just how i want them either, but I am getting better gradually.
Learning is hard, but I'm having fun.
So do you think bjd people would flip out if I used real fur to make a coat for my bjd? I'd like to use some of the free fur I get from my uncles rabbit farm but I don't want to be attacked by tumblrinas everytime I post my doll.
I have a few pieces with real fur, just don't say it's real and it's cool if you are so worried.
Honestly don't get these "will people hate me if they know my age/gender/sexuality/other thing I might get in trouble for but could easily hide" questions.
We collect dolls, nobody needs to know these things so just keep it to yourself if you are afraid people might have a problem with it.
I know it's weird to be worried about what people think all the time. I was just paranoid that people would be able to tell it was real fur from photos and might mob me or something. It takes so little to turn the people in this hobby against you if your not popular or an 'artist'.
I've seen the tumblrinas get assblasted over the Europe and Asian clothiers using real fur. Just don't post your doll in that coat on tumblr and it will probably pass under the radar. Seriously, fuck those crazy vegan types. I still see some of them tsking at the mohair wigs that are just shorn locks and not pelts.
People are dumb fucks about the shearing process. I know a lot of mass farms do the full meat processing and will do the wool only as a byproduct, but most smaller places that specialize only in mohair or wool or locks obviously want to keep their animals healthy. Even just practicality wise it costs more to constantly replace animals than to just keep one in good shape and give it occasional haircuts. I used to have people flip out when I worked at a living history place and would do wool spinning and carding demos, and that was with our own sheep on site and visible from the window right next to me.
What are some good canada/US based faceup artists? My poor boy's been through a lot and has some battle damage.
Apparently its perfectly fine to allow visiting small cousins into my room while i'm out because they "love dolls so much!"
damn i know it might sound over the top, but if i were you i would ask for some kind of compensation for the damage your cousins caused.
regardless if they're "just kids", it's rude for someone to just let your cousins into your room and touch your stuff. does the person that let your cousins into your room know the value of your stuff?
I tried, sadly their parents are very "my precious babies did nothing of the sort!" and dont believe the value of the dolls. Same goes for my mother.
Its nowhere near as bad, but they also messed up some of my pokemon figs and other types of dolls.
Under those circumstances, I don't think they should. It's not like you got it from a crazy Chinese fur farm. But they will anyway, so, you know, don't say anything.
And yes, post the results. I might get a few vintage furs in the next month and I'd like some ideas about what to do with them if I win them.
'Accidentally' scuff their shoes and bags and maybe knock a few items off the table when you visit them. Piss them off and play it off like they do.
And then make sure your room is locked and only you have the key.
Anon.... I think your doll dropped something...
Should put a kawaii bandaid on it or something and drizzle it with glitter.
>MUH DICK IS ORIGINAL DONUT COPY
Not that I can find, although I think they're about 1/12 scale so maybe eyes made for other dolls of that scale? Since they're releasing an open eyes version in February, there may be more info about eye size then.
>They want a refund AND the doll
Doesn't the doll belong to them in the first place? You think someone will let you keep their doll? What the fuck? If this is all so hard for her why is she still doing commissions and being active and present online? It would be far better for her fragile mind if she wasn't putting herself out there for people to criticize.
I know she's just having fun but christ this was hard to watch.
Does anybody have experience with tata's paradise? I ordered from them 3 weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything since. Tried to contact them on their website a week ago to ask for an update, but they haven't responded.
Canadian, so i get extra fucked.
Any quick guides to getting started on buying stuff there?
Or should i learn to sew? I know a few things, since i took a class back in highschool. But i need patterns..
Making it yourself is cheap (if you have a fabric/fashion district in your city or are willing to learn the dark art of couponing). You don't need a sewing machine (they get in the way honestly) since you're working on such a small scale. Just googling yosd pattern gives you a bunch of results, and there's some Russian site with a bunch of doll pattern books. I think I might have downloaded a few of them, so if you're actually up to sew for her doll, I can try finding them.
Not too comprehensive, but it'll at least give you an idea of how to go through taobao.
Sewing is also an option, but some people (myself included) find sewing for YoSDs so much harder because of the size.
You can also find some stuff on Etsy, and might even be able to find it being shipped from within Canada, but its gonna be a little more than Taobao would. Still gives you another option if you can't figure out Taobao though.
Learn to sew, it's a useful skill to have anyway. My understanding is finding patterns isn't hugely important for making doll clothes, since you can work right on the doll.
Here's some examples
This artist has a lot of how-tos
I really liked those tutorials, thank you anonymous!
I'd also suggest this tutorial, http://miniatures.about.com/od/dollshousedolls/ss/Custom-Fit-A-Basic-Doll-Clothing-Pattern-To-Any-Doll-Basic-Torso-Shell.htm which I used to make a variety of patterns for my doll since I'm learning how to sew better.
No prob, I'm on the hunt for doll clothes tutorials too. I sew a lot of other things, but haven't done clothes since I was a little kid and feel pretty lost. That sloper tutorial is great, I'm gonna use that for sure.
Are you guys willing to provide doll clothes advice for a fashion-challenged anon?
My grandma's been dropping hints about wanting one of those super realistic babydolls. The rest of us are creeped out, but I guess you're allowed to get kinda weird once you hit 90. I made a teddy bear for her to try to redirect her grandmotherly urges to something less creepy and expensive, but I don't think it worked :(
My advice? Fashion magazines are less than a dollar per month. Reading them in your library (or Barnes and Noble) is free. They also have websites if you want to stay home, and fashion blogs are everywhere these days. What sorts of styles do you like?
Thank you senpai
Good advice, I've already been saving photos from fashion sites for ideas.
What I really need is advice on a specific outfit. I have this nice muted blue tartan I want to make into a fuku, but I'm not really sure about the overall color scheme. I was thinking a black blouse, tartan skirt/collar/cuffs, and maybe blue for the bias tape trim?
What do you think? Does that sound like shit? Should I go with a white blouse? I'm open to any suggestions, I have no idea what I'm doing here.
Usually in real life you see white tops with non-black fuku skirts and black tops only when the skirt is black. I don't think I have seen the combination of non-black skirt and black top before. You don't have to be limited by reality though, and I like the idea of black or maybe dark gray top with the blue trim.
But if you wanted it to be a more recreational outfit and not just a school uniform I also think that the plaid skirt with a black sleeveless top could have a fun look.
I'm aiming to make a deliberately fetishy anime schoolgirl outfit here, so aesthetic is way more important than realism. Dark grey top is a neat idea, I'd already been thinking dark grey stockings. I guess I'll try roughing out a sketch with different colors.
Alright give me some brutal feedback /toy/. I know absolutely nothing about fashion design.
It doesn't look like black trim will have enough contrast to me.
Thanks for the feedback. To be honest I'm not nearly familiar enough with this stuff to know what try-hard would even look like hahaha
I'm not sure I'll actually be able to find tiny blue ribbon in the right color for the trim, so I may end up faking it with a satin stitch or something (this is for 1/6 scale). Or maybe it'll look too busy with trim and I'll just skip it. My model is SUPPOSED to arrive tomorrow, so I'll be able to judge better then.
Yeah I really lucked out finding this stuff (I hope I don't regret buying only half a yard). I have the hardest time finding nice tartans. It always pays to dig through the red-tag section at Joanns. I also picked up a grey and navy striped knit to make some cute thigh-highs (couldn't find a nice dark grey that I'll be using with this outfit though)
Do you mean this kind of sailor hat? http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/OOkAAOSw0e9UuSHq/s-l300.jpg Yeah, I could probably do that.
i would go for the black top anon, i dunno what the other anon is talking about but white to me looks just too weeby, like bad school girl cosplay at an anime convention. the black looks less obvious.
I am actually going for a weeby look, this is the first of (hopefully) several gag outfits I'm giving a figure. Maybe I'll just sew one of each. The skirt and bow can go with either one.
White top is the classic, normal look.
Black with dark blue is usually the "this character is some hard bitch" look.
However, maybe just make two tops anon? That way you can easily switch.
Also I tried to find a picture of the type of hat I mean but fuck, no luck. I have a very cleary picture in mind but can't find a photo.
Whoops I didn't scroll down far enough before replying. I throw my vote in for both C and E. C has a non-typical color scheme, which makes it very anime/VN-ish, which for dolls is very cool. E is a more realistic look, but still very cool and unique.
I love the idea of the blue trim on the sleeves and skirt.
If you've got a small (1/2'' or smaller, or one of the travel-size) flat irons, put it on the lowest setting and iron away. If it isn't delicate fabric, feel free to increase the heat.
Alternatively, use a real clothing iron.
Also, washing the clothes gently then laying flat to dry on a towel works for removing stubborn wrinkles that won't stay smooth after ironing.
So has anybody here ever bought dresses from moneadolly on ebay? I like the look of their dresses but finding in hand photos of them is impossible.
My grandma actually ended up getting a bjd. And then another. I think she's up to about 12 now. A couple are the Tonner resins and the more old-lady-oriented brands but she really likes them.
Most hospitals inventory and ask you to remove your jewellery upon admission. Especially expensive pieces. They don't want to be liable if it's stolen or "goes missing" during your stay.
If it's something you can't remove (fresh earrings, nose stud, whatever), they tape over it so it won't "fall out" during procedures. But things like bangles, necklaces, etc. are removed upon admission, because if there's an emergency, they can't remove it for you, and they don't want to get into shit if you lose it.
So. TL;DR: she's very probably bullshitting, or else on some kind of out-patient treatment regimen at most.
I know when my mom went through chemo, her room looked a bit like a spa suit instead of a regular hospital room and they didn't require her to remove jewellery, as an example.
Agreed. I also don't think hospitals allow you to bring your own bedding, and that blanket looks distinctly not-hospital like (you know what I mean? They always have those heated chunky-knit things with the name printed all over it).
Sometimes they do allow your own bedding, but onyl in cases where its not an infection risk.
Like, i was in for observation, and had my special blanket with me. But when in for surgery, i wasnt allowed to have it.
Their quality is fine, they're just kind of an odd style for some people I guess. They were pretty popular for a while there, especially when Val Zeiter or whatever was doing those exclusive sets for Haute Doll. I remember desperately wanting a vampire Goldie.
Black trim doesn't look bad for contrast, there was a Volks set with a blue plaid skirt and black trim on it; the shirt was white though. I own that set and have had my doll wear a black button-up shirt with the skirt and it looked cute, but if the entire blazer/jacket had been black that might be a little overbearing.
What you need is to buy Obitsu Pixy Ears (vinyl and $15) and attach them to your doll with putty, if any kind of trauma happens to them they will just fall off instead of breaking.
They can actually look pretty good, especially when hidden by a wig a bit to hide the line between ear and head.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna make two. Dang now I'm really curious what kind of hat you were thinking.
Dang that would be cute too, but I am actually partial to plaid pleated skirts. You could learn to sew too anon, I believe in you! Doll clothes are pretty easy to make.
Ribbon was on sale, so I picked up the blue and a light grey I hadn't considered as trim (if I went that route I'd have to do pale grey socks as well). The 1/8" black had a weird, ugly texture so I skipped it. I'm leaning towards the blue, but I was worried it would be too intense to go with the more muted tartan. What do you guys think?
My sewing machine broke while I was sewing some kneesocks (not to go with this outfit though), so this might have put a halt to my plans. I could hand sew some of it, but machine topstitching looks much better.
That blue ribbon should be reserved for cheerleading ribbons and nothing else.
Just a note about machine sewing- you might actually fuck it up using a machine. Doll pieces are small as fuck and can easily get eaten (what's the actual word for this?) by the machine.
I actually found something that is close-ish to what I have in mind.
Basically the round base at the bottom with a bigger part on top that should be flattened a bit more and to one side.
And it should be placed on the head like here on the right:
....does that make sense?
Hahaha, well put. I was really hoping to find a more muted blue ribbon but that's probably an unrealistic expectation.
Eaten by the feed dogs you mean? Yeah, I tend to work really tiny and know that pain well. Sewing with a narrow topstitching foot and leaving some extra fabric at the top and bottom helps. Some tear-away stabilizer can also a lifesaver for this kind of thing.
I sort of get it? I feel like I'd need a lot more reference to go sewing one though.
Are those freckles on that doll on the right? That's a nice faceup.
I believe you're thinking of a muffin cap? That or a barrette, which is...basically a modified, one-seamed muffin cap. Super easy to make and I'm sure there are some tutorials out there for dolls, (if not, one for a person could be sized down to fit).
Since the blue turned out too vivid, I tried a piece of light grey ribbon. What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards no trim at all. I just finished hemming the skirt piece and I'm so proud of my topstitching that I'm kinda reluctant to cover it up haha
I also tried making a sloper for the blouse with that tutorial, but my model is so weird shaped that I think I'm gonna have to work from a preexisting one and modify it.
I looks up muffin caps and they seem more pleated/gathered than the one in that pic. It looked sort of like a beret but the band seems a lot wider. It bugs me that I don't have any idea what the name of this style of hat is.
Nope, that isn't correct either.
That's so weird, I have such a clear picture in mind and I'm sure I've seen that type of hat a dozen times (incl. with that type of school uniform) but now they seem to have completely vanished from the internet.
Sorry plaid anon, just thought a nice accessoire might be a good idea and now we are pining over this goddamn hat.
Yeah, after experimenting I'm really leaning towards either black trim or no trim. I'm goin to bed now, but I think ill try to pick up black ribbon on Monday and see how it looks. In the meantime I guess I'll start on the blouse.
I'm on a windows phone that never lets me post pictures but the hat you guys are looking for is called a sailor beret.
99% sure that's what you want, google it and see it that matches the hat in your mind.
Choo's working on a 1/6 smart doll
elfgutz modded a neon pink asshole onto her doll and it's fucking hilarious. Well, any doubts that she does all the shit she does in a bid to get attention are cleared away. Might be the most classless doll customizer I've ever seen (well, that guy who mods labias onto childlike SDs probably wins.)
How does she always seem to find someone to give her asspats?
>diary free diet
I guess she's gonna get started on that... tomorrow.
Started a wood model thread, but I figure you guys might be knowledgeable about doll furniture.
Trying to replicate these Cobaanii shoji kits. They're pretty simple, but at 1/12 scale, I'm working with wood at the millimeter scale. Any tips for woodworking with such small pieces? Is it better to hand saw things at that size or should I stick to the precision of power tools?
No full kits that I know of, but Cobaanii makes tons of smaller kits that can be pieced together. For example, right now, this is up for preorder. It comes with the table, both zabuton chairs, and two Tatami mats.
I'm planning on doing it from scratch mostly, and after the shoji, I need to decide if I want to use Pinktank's plastic tatami mats or make my own. I'll post results as I go if you want.
Is it weird that the art that bothers me the most is that it doesn't look good? I ain't gonna begrudge people making weird creepy shit, but at least make it the best weird creepy shit you can. Make sure your creepy doll asshole looks like an actual asshole and not a weird pimple.
I decided to bring some of my dolls out for the first time in ages. Here's a couple shots, I'll probably take more in a bit.
I really need more wigs. This one is OK, but not great, and it's the only one that fits Yori's huge head. I miss when I could just drive 30 minutes and walk into Volks to see what they have.
So I got my Feeple65 out and remembered that none of the outfits I own look good on her. So this happened.
Is this too lewd for this thread?
I have more if anybody wants to see them, meanwhile I'll try to find something that actually fits...
Haha, they're actually made for DDs, so on a doll this big they turn from conservative into... something else. They're also a set, but the bra's a little small...
I actually didn't notice the nipple until after I posted the photo, I was trying to angle it with her hand blocking both of them.
This BJD makes me think /a/ is right about elves...
She's Fairyland Feeple65 Siean, by the way.
I forgot how cool her default outfit is, I guess she'll wear it for a while.
She has a pretty nice default wig, too, but it stains, and I don't feel like magic eraser-ing her again.
I really like this hair clip thingy too. I just wish I'd preordered her, I would have gotten a pretty badass pair of swords for her if I had.
In case anybody's curious about just how big these F65s are, by the way, here's a comparison between mine and my Volks SD13. (About the same size as a DD, by the way.)
Note that both are wearing shoes of about the same heel height and that the SD's stand is actually a few mm taller than the F65's.
Huh, neat. And wow, Volks stock photos look like absolute shit. I didn't realize how nice the sculpts were until seeing your photos (sadly, my comm doubles as a Resinsoul fan society). Your dolls look beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to show differently scaled clothes and dolls together.
Yeah, their photos are absolutely awful. I never would have owned a Volks if I hadn't gone into Volks USA a bunch of times and seen them in person.
For what it's worth, though, this version of Yori has a different faceup from the normal one, and it totally changes the way she looks. (This one was a weird preorder thing, you had to buy a faceup tutorial book and then use a code inside it to order her, and as far as I know she's the only one that ever came through Volks USA.)
Patterns for slim MSDs like Minifee and Unoa, and for similar sized fashion dolls like Ellowynne Wilde will fit well. In my experience RS minis are a bit slimmer in the hips and torso but otherwise its a pretty good fit.

And for anyone else you wants to see.
Sorry for the potato pic, but here's the first prototype. I'm not too happy with the lattice bars, both in their appearance and how much work stripping the plywood backing takes, but there's no way my saw can cut pieces any thinner. I'll try and figure something else out.
I have some shoji paper on the way, I haven't stained it, and the sanding job on the kick board isn't great, but I'm fairly happy with it. For the twenty bucks everything cost, it's much better than the Cobaanii kits at least. I also made a base board that will fit 8 of those Pinktank tatami mats and fits right in a Detolf to attach these to.
I'd love to own that set. I think that sort of thing is really cute.
I made something similar. I used bamboo pieces from a $1 'sushi mat' from Target for the lattice and tissue paper for the shoji. 1/6 scale.
I don't have any pictures of the door but window is same idea. Please ignore how terrible the screen is, I ended up scrapping that. I actually scrapped the whole thing, but the screen went first.
Do you mean that it won't look good or work at 1/12 scale or just not to bother since it's too small to really make a difference? If it's the latter, I've always been a bit of a purist
Both good ideals I'll take a trip down to Target if scoring and breaking doesn't result in cuts clean enough for me.
anyone know where a person could find a gakuen / traditional Japanese boy uniform kinda like this in unoa size?
Eiji owner pics are here. positively underwhelming - reinforces my policy of resin boys and vinyl girls.
I would like to see more hybrids if he's going to churn out more sameface.... but I have a feeling they're all gonna look like uke kawaii shota shit.
Well I just got my first doll today and I found out the three shoes I ordered are too small by just 1-2 cm. They got here a week before the doll did so I'm pretty sure it's too late to return them. If I ever could in the first place.
Does anyone have any experience with returning/exchanging things from Nine9 Style?
That's what I figured. I've heard of ways to make shoes temporarily wider, would there be any way to try to make it longer? Measuring again it's only a one cm difference.
On the bright side my doll's even prettier in person and seems really well made.
You can try to stretch shoes by filling a baggie with water and putting that in the shoe. Then put the shoe, stuffed with the water baggie, in the freezer. Leave it there for a few days and see if the shoes stretched at all.
Alternatively, buy a doll with feet small enough for the shoes. Protip: This is what you'll end up doing.
This doesn't really solve your problem the way you want to, but alternatively if you're the kind of person who thinks they'll be buying a lot of shoes for your doll in the future, you can do what I did and buy feet in different sizes so that you won't ever have sizing issues again.
Because yeah, sellers aren't going to let you exchange them, and depending on the shoes, altering them or stretching them out might hurt their ability to let your doll stand.
She's the elf body from dollstown so I don't think I'll be able to swap out the feet. Any smaller might make it harder for her to stand.
I'll have to see about selling them, and if I don't have any luck I'll try to stretch them out. Thanks for the advice.
Hers are 6.5 cm, but yeah you're right.
