Hey guys, its my first time here so pls be nice. I'm really wanting to buy a nice Kylo Ren figure, I like his costume design the best out of any star wars character, or probably any character period. My sister got me one for christmas and its really cool but it isn't exactly what I was hoping for. It's pretty big (about as tall as a Barbie doll) and is all plastic, no cloth. It doesn't really move or pose very well. I like it a lot but it wasn't what I imagined when I said I wanted a really nice Kylo figure.

I've looked online and am drawn to this Black series model. It's pretty much what I wanted but a little smaller than I hoped for. I want him to have a real cloth cloak and hood and be able to pose well in different positions. Would this be a good figure for what I'm looking for? Is there a better detailed figure I could get?

Pic is what I'm looking at, I might order it tonight.

pic related is what I have right now. He's fine but it's too clunky and plastic, no cloth on it. Feels too much like a Barbie doll.
>>
>>5391553
and also with you brother
>>
>>5391557
what the fuk. srly?
>>
>>5391625
He isn't that good. I acted like I really liked him because my sister probably had to go to a million stores to even find it. And I do kind of like it, he's on my desk right now. But to be quite honest he's clunky and ugly, dat crotch. I'm looking to upgrade.
>>
>>5391544
what's your price range?
>>
>>5391650
Right now I shouldn't spend more than $50 on it. And thats pushing my toy budget to the max, I never buy toys. I just love this character design more than you can even imagine that I have to get a good figure of him, I haven't bought a figure in 15 years. The Black series figure seems to be about $20 and looks like quality. When I get my good job going I'm willing to pay a lot more for a realistic replica model, so any suggestions you have I can save for when I have more money to spend.
>>
>>5391544
For $20 that Kylo is great, I love mine. Your other options are the SH Figuarts which will set you back around $50 and the Hot Toy which will sent you back around $250 (Might be worth saving up for if you really like him). I suggest buying the black series.
>>
>>5391666
Well you seem pretty committed to the cloth aspect of the figure, so the Black Series is probably right for you. Try to buy the KMart "Starkiller Base" version though, it has a better hood, better lightsaber design, one extra accessory, and a force pushing left hand instead of another gripping one.

I have the original release and it's a fine figure, but not great.

If you're willing to let go of the cloth, the Figuarts Kylo Ren is right around your budget and much better than the Black Series in basically every way. Better paint, better sculpt, more accessories, much better articulation, etc. But it's all plastic, and about 3x the price of the Black Series.

If you're willing to wait, Mafex is probably going to produce a Kylo Ren that should be in the $40 range and be a mix of the Black Series and Figuarts version.
>>
>>5391672
Thanks, I'll look into the Hot Toy model, which I absolutely can not rationalize paying for right now but if its good, maybe later this year. I really do like him. I'll also look into the $50 model, is it really worth the extra $30? Where I'm at right now the black series Kylo looks like exactly what I want, I just wanted to ask /toy/ if it was any good.
>>
I have the Black Series and Elite figures. I would go with the SH Figuarts one that someone mentioned earlier, if not then definitely go with black series. It doesnt have crazy articulation, but it gets the job done and has cloth. The Elite series figure is pretty much just a statue, no point in moving it at all, barely any articulation, and its not cloth, all plastic and the figure itself is die cast
>>
>>5391686
Sideshow has payment plans if you're willing to do that. I hate spending the money all at once so that's what I do. Kylo would be $67.50 a month for 3 months and then shipping, but I'd definitely think about it.
>>
>>5391683
Yes I am pretty committed to him having a cloth robe and hood, its pretty crucial. When I have the money I'll probably look for a more detailed and realistic model, but so far the Black Series matches what I want in my price range.

Will they release a higher quality figure with cloth eventually?
>>
>>5391699
Mafex probably will release a cloth figure with Figuarts level articulation and accessories, but that could be months from now, so I wouldn't wait around for it. Figuarts will never release a cloth figure, it's just not what they do.

But seriously, if you can, get the Kmart version of the Black Series. It's much better than the wide release version and costs the same.
>>
>>5391710
There are no more Kmarts here, is it something I could order? How much more would it cost online?

I just looked up this one, HOLY SHIT!!! THIS IS WHAT I WANT! It's so perfect. I can't spend that much money right now but I'll have it later this year. I think in the meantime I'll get the normal Black Series. I looked at the Kmart version and I don't like the snow all over his cloak.

Most likely, you can probably paint over it with a marker or something like that

The figuarts is tough to find now though and figuarts + Black Series is put you out of your $50 price range.

>>5391699
Medicom will probably release him in their Mafex line, but considering how long they take, you probably wouldn't have him in your hands until this time next year. If you're determined to have both the cloth robe and the improved articulation, I've seen people transplanting the Black Series robes onto the Figuarts body to good effect. That being said, the most practical option would be to get the Black Series now to scratch the itch (it's perfectly solid for $20), then get the Mafex whenever that comes out.

I just sacked up and did it without anything to go on.

Blast the black series head with a hairdryer until you can work it off the giant neck ball. Its the hardest part after gettint the cloak off itself. You'll get the shawl/cape off.

Then, using an xacto knife, carefully cut under the adhered part in the front of his belt, where its joined. If you don't fuck this part up, you could theoretically glue it back if you change your mind.

Now you'll have to take the thing off. It'll be fine, don't fucking rip it.

Ok. Assuming you've still got the figuarts assembled, the head and the torso joint pop off easily. With the hips exposed, you can see how easily the skirt things will be to remove. Just pegs.

And look at that. You done it.

I haven't trimmed mine yet, but it looks 1000x better already.
>>
>>5393901
You know with the same hairdryer you might also get the arms off, I bet it makes getting the cloak off 10x easier.

Just got black series kylo and he's pretty decent.
>>
>>5395456

It's easier than it seems.

I already have pretty decent instructions. All the joints you have to pop off are ball-sockets, the figuarts comes apart easily by pulling off the head and the torso, then the black series needs a hairdryer and some elbow grease.

Maybe try the arms too if you're feeling ballsy, but its not necessary.

Then carefully (or not if you don't care) cut off the black series belt with a hobby knife. Putting it on the figuarts is piss easy after this.

You can do it. Beleive in yourself.

hey guys, thanks for all the info and discussion. I can tell this is a good board. I just now bought the Black Series Kylo from walmart, it was $20. I'm extremely happy with him. I haven't bought an action figure since pic related was the standard. I love the level of detail and how many of his joints bend, I'm having fun trying to figure out the coolest pose. Great figure, exactly what I was hoping it would be, love it. I decided against the Kmart version because I really hate the snow on his cloak, other than the force hand this looks much better and more natural.

I'd take off his hands though if you've switched them from the fists, as open fingers cpuld hook and cause trouble.

Nah. The details are all the same and the articulation is comparable if not identical. I'm okay with the plastic hood but I don't like that the head is moulded to it.

I also like the 3.75/4" scale better than 6" (I have baby hands) and already have a ton of prior SW toys in that scale, so it works better for me.
