You motherfuckers sure know how to burn through a thread.
For the guy looking for Kylo Ren unmasked: There's a new Black Series version coming. Personally, I'm waiting on MAFEX getting to him, since they'll probably do a pretty good cloth goods version with swappable heads, going by their past releases.
Also, I just got Shock Trooper. He is wonderfully garish.
Unmasked Black Series: I can't seem to find it now, thought it was on toy ark but nothing's coming up. It looked pretty dire, though.
MAFEX: Just using my brain bone. The pattern is MAFEX announces their figures way later, usually have cloth goods and swappable heads, and Kylo would be well served by having that sort of high quality material.
You are confusing Black Series with Disney Elite Series. Elite series is the one with the shitty looking unmasked Kylo
Mine decided to go extra emo and shave his right eyebrow. You can see it in pic above. Apparently it's a rather common factory error for that specific figure. I enjoy it because I want my Kylo to be as emo and pathetic as possible.
How's the S.H. Figuarts Kylo Ren. Is it worth getting if you already have the BS? It would be my first Figuarts ever.
Am I slowpoking? Didn't see this.
There's also a Rey & BB8 running change, and a variant on the TBS6 Resistance Trooper. One has a brown helmet with blood on it, one has a green helmet (not sure about blood on the green helmeted version, I got the brown one.)
>buying black series of major characters or characters with visible faces
Saw it at Target the other day. If they'd packed it with the Kmart sabers and alt hand, it would have been worth the buy.
Also, there was some anon in one of the other threads who asked about putting into the FO head on the OG trooper body. Here's a lineup of peg sizes for these. The best fit turns out to be the Han Solo body.
No pictures here, but the Clone Trooper body has too large of a peg, and the Scout Trooper has an adequate peg.

Never mind, I figured it out.
It's fucking trash, his cape skirt thing is all stiff
Anthonyscustoms is shit at posing figures, why cite him? Just move the pieces around and it looks fine
we badly need a containment thead for SW. we have 3, and yet there are 31-39 star wars related threads on /toy/, mostly asking where2get, what's the best version, and how much it sells for.
>star wars general (this one)
I couldn't care about what people prefer, but spreading that stupid picture from that dumbass's review makes the plastic seem much worse than it is. I thought Anthony was universally hated around here, why is his stuff being used as argumentative support?
Is TR-8R getting a stand alone Black Series release or do I have to get Poe face also?
Whats the best 3.75 inch Boba Fett out there? i know 3.75 doesnt get me much articulation, i just want him to hold his rifle with both hands and not look too goofy. Accuracy of accessories is important too
You pretty much missed his wave. They had an initial wave and then a restock. They are basically sold out now although you might get lucky here or there. It's unknown if there will be any more restocks.
I'm actually pretty pleased with the black series so far; I've yet to receive any stuck joint from their figures and stuff that uses cloth isn't a hassle to pose.
I'm on a mission to collect as many stormtroopers as possible
Preordering just in case. Initially I didn't want Maul since he barely did anything in TPM but I'm glad I kept my preorder since I can't stop messing with him and Luke, maybe Dindu will grow on me too
Yeah it was showing pre orders closed for me too but I just refreshed and the button was suddenly back green.
Website took forever to load though, more than usual. Must be getting hammered.
Head pops off super easy, can't say if other heads fit easy at all. He is super fun although he has some weird limits in posing you hit every now and then, and his feet (or rather the 5+ I've handled at least) aren't perfectly flat so getting some balancing poses aren't easy.
>figuarts 65 and up
WHAT THE FUCK ARE THESE PRICES JESUS
>tfw you go in a Walmart that just got restocked on 3.75 black
They had 4 kylo ren so I got one of those, Vader Rotj Luke and a regular 3.75 hasma. I kind of regret not getting the rey because it looked good but I wish it came with a bb8 like the 6 inch bs
I have two with TR-8R paid for in advance.
Honestly, I want more. I kind of hated Force Awakens, but the FO Trooper design looks cool and the SHF version is crazily expressive. Almost like a Super Action Statue with more elaborate engineering (the torso joint is a work of genius). Just really, really great figures and the fun multiplies as you get more than one to pose doing goofy shit like disco dancing and wuxia.
I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it but that is a possibility. I also have another shitty yet valuable elite series figure in general grievous that I might sell or trade as well.
This probably. I still got him in a box somewhere.
It was the only Luke figure I had as a kid actually.
>He also goes for like 2 hundo on ebay so it's not too bitter an exit
>No fucking way, this guy must not have checked the "sold listings"
Holy shit! I'm so glad I didn't open mine in case they announced a figuarts Grievous
My TFA Black Series collection so far. Waiting to get a display case/ better lighting. Distortion in image is from Pano feature.
Want Flame Trooper, Old Han, Hux, and X-Wing Pilot Asty next.
Black series stuff is particularly flaky at that sort of thing because of the ankles and their weirdass ratchets, every couple days one of my stormtroopers would take a shelf dive. I ended up using a bunch of those flat triangular revoltech stands that work with feet pegholes.
>Awwwww, can we keep him?
>Model kit and figuarts?
>can i bother you for a side-by-side for height comparison?
I had Han, Threepio, Artoo and a Stormtrooper from the Powers of the Force line. I also had the 90's reissues of the Millenium Falcon and an X-Wing.
My personal favourites though were the Action Fleet toys. I had the AT-AT, Snowspeeder, X-Wing and TIE Interceptor. I might buy some new replacements plus more to go with them because those were utterly based toys.
I have these ones but have no fucking room for them right now so they're just chilling up there with my LEGO sets.
Forgive the phone quality lighting I just took a quick snapchat.
Where did you get that impression? /toy/ tends to be very much against keeping figures in boxes
Currently have these two troopers. Getting a kylo and vader, should i get another of each trooper as well?
It's pretty good, should be able to pose them how you would want to. It's a lot better than the black series. I need to glue the arms and legs in though as sometimes they'll come apart while im posing.
Man, I'm slightly worried about figuarts phasma now. As long as it's just a slightly upscaled FO trooper it should be solid, but the cape could be trouble. How flexy is the cape for the black series one? Maybe it'll be possible to do a swap like Kylo's robe.
The reason i wanted another of each was so that i could have vader with a classic trooper on each side and kylo with a FO trooper. Though it might be getter to just get a boba fett and phasma instead of just another trooper.
Who else has this fucker? I think he's my favorite 4" Star Wars figure.
>FO worse than classic
Assuming we're talking Figuarts and not Black Series, the FO Trooper is actually by far the best they've done so far. Which armour design is best is open for debate but purely as a figure it's pretty fantastic.
I'd agree in that case that the FO is worse than the OG. Still a nice kit but the rifle being a lump of black plastic and other little issues hold it back.
I really need to pick up some of the original Stormtroopers, the kit seems to be the best thing in 1/12 and second best thing to Hot Toys.
>Still a nice kit but the rifle being a lump of black plastic and other little issues hold it back.
Pretty much. I got it after i did the classic kit so by comparison i was disappointed but still not a bad figure. Prefer it to the black series.
Looks good, what kind of brush did you use and how long did it take? I really want to pick up a couple of the fighters but I'm afraid they'd go unpainted like the couple gundams I've tried my hand at.
got the brush and paints from micheals. Paint's were just cheap acrylic. The at-st took longer as it was more fine surfaces to wipe down. I pretty much just made a wash, covered the whole thing, let it dry, and then wiped it off with a moistened paper towel or q-tip if it was too small of a spot. On the speeder i put dots of thinned paint (brown, black, and grey) and then wiped with a wet brush in the direction of air flow. The nice thing about acrylics is you can pretty much just clean it up with water if anything goes wrong.
>but the rifle being a lump of black plastic and other little issues hold it back.
It's a MODEL KIT. If you want a fully painted action figure, then buy a fully painted action figure.
That would be like me buying the figuarts and then complaining that I didn't get to put it together.
no because the classic weapons are just black and the gloves are just black so it seems a lot better. Also the FO kit has a seam on the abdomen which the original does not have. The chest also kind of seems a bit too large if you ask me.
Been away since the movie came out. Have they put out the new wave of 3 3/4" scale figures yet, or are Hasbro still mum about that?
Hasbro is releasing most of the movie characters in the 5 POA versions, and a handful of "black series" 3.75" figures, which seem to have the high articulation that was normal up until a few years ago. I just got back into collecting these and I really dislike the 6" scale.
That's how they actually look, most of the stormtroopers in the movie also have no neck
I like the 3.75 scale because it matches almost everything Hasbro/Kenner has released in the last 38 years. That's a vader I picked up probably 8 years ago with the Kylo I picked up last week. To me it just feels like starting all over, plus they fit in all the vehicles.
Stopped by toys r us today. Had a pretty decent black series stock.
Are there any good figures of the 41st Elite Corps? I know I had a big set with like 4 or 5 troopers in it when I was a kid, but they weren't very posable.
I don't think we'll get something so specific nowadays, so you'll have to mod one of the standard troops. Though come to thing of it, I don't recall seeing any Black Series Late-Clonewars Clones
There is absolutely no reason Bandai couldn't have supplied white plastic parts to plug into the black skeleton of the blaster. Their Gundam kits require no paint. All the other Star Wars action figure models released so far have been entirely in the correct colours.
They rushed it to market instead of going through another couple of revisions and as such it's the weakest of all the figure models they've released so far in terms of screen accuracy.
>Their Gundam kits require no paint.
Wrong. Even master grade kits need paint in varying degrees.
>all the other Star Wars action figure models released so far have been entirely in the correct colours.
Wrong, and its obvious you dont own any of the kits.
The trooper needed the grey and blue painted in on the face, Fett required all the weathering to be done, and Vader only came in black, literally everything had to be painted on him.
And beyond that, its a fucking model. If you dont want to paint, and make small mods to make it fit your taste, buy a fucking action figure.
I said 'correct colours', idiot.
Stormtrooper comes with waterslides for the helmet and detonator can. Same with Boba Fett, at bare minimum he just needs silver weathering to look right. All the base colours are correctly separated in plastic.
The FO Trooper by contrast needs a tricky masking job to put the white on his gun with paint. Lazy design and patternmaking vs the previous kits.
I'm actually kind of looking forward to stormtrooper finn, because I mainly want the head and it seems like they're doing much better paintjobs than they were with the first wave. Coming with a complete trooper is sort of a bonus.
It's actually quite good, double joints everywhere and the shoulder armor doesn't hinder poseability.
I had a mail order Han Stormtrooper for Kix Cereal. It was the only SW figure I had as a kid. Went to camp for a week and came home to find that the dogs had chewed it up. I was pissed. Finally replaced it almost 20yrs later with the Black series 6" version.
My first figures were two ugly-ass Chinese bootleg Chewbaccas and POTF2 3PO. Got both of them in a bin of random toys when I was like 3 or 4. I remember getting a ton more over the years, but my favorite was always this guy. He just looked so cool to me. Still does.
I guess i'm better off just tracking down regular Stormtroopers. But I feel that buying those two kind of justifies buying multiples of the 'same character'.
Also, if i'm not mistaken, Luke's trooper body is a different mold than the stock trooper, right?
Managed to get the Black Series Jango Fett and Phasma last night. They look great! I'm really happy with them.
All I need now is to get Ahsoka and Kanan, I really hope I can get my hands on them and they won't be scalped first. I kind of want a Rey, but along with Finn, I'm sure they'll have much more iconic costumes in the latter films so I'll wait. Definitely getting Old man Luke if he releases, hopefully he'll have his green lightsaber.
What's /toys thoughts on the first order figuarts Storm Trooper? Picked one up at Mandy for 4k. I didn't want to bother with the black series edition as that shit requires modding the elbow joints.
It's literally the first thing that pops up on Google when you search black series Kanan
I passed up on the Guavarian Guard Black Series for MSRP. Should I go back and get him? He looks awesome, but I haven't even seen the movie yet.
Hammerhead was my first Star Wars figure. I think The Emperor and Chewbacca after that, all from the PotJ line.
>passed up on the Guavarian Guard Black Series for MSRP.
They are one of three current pegwarmers, so if you feel so inclined to wait, you'll probably be able to find him just fine after you see the movie.
It doesn't matter how good you get with it it still has shit range when compared with other blasters.
I don't feel like getting into a Battlefront conversation though because honestly the game was a bit shit
Those bendy Star Wars figures before PotF2 happened. Was given a boxset of like seven of the New Hope characters even though I never saw the movie, it certainly got me interested though.
A friend gave me his 1978 X-Wing Luke and a chewed up Walrus Man back in the mid 80's. I had just watched the movies and was obsessed. I later went to a flea market and saw walls of the other figures. Over the next 20 years I ended up collecting most of them. It was a great hobby. Now I just grab the figures that look the best or modern updates of my favorite figures.
I got a Prototype Boba today. He looks even better than expected. I had a minor freak out when it became apparent his right elbow joint was stuck but 30 seconds with a blow dryer cleared it right up. Apologies for the sideways pic.
Even though I don't like the 5 POA figures, I think it fits the Rebels animation style. To that end I picked up the Ashoka/Vader 2 pack, just because Ashoka is waifu tier.
I need to get better at this photography though.
Its probably just easier for them to do what they did; use the phase 1 body and just repaint it a half a dozen times with a different color stripe on it for all the different ranks.
seems like they only did red and yellow stripe phase 1 in 6". There's a ton of 3 3/4" clone troopers with every little variation getting its own release. That's probably the way to go, though not as pretty as everyone else's stormtroopers.
It's still early days. Black Series has only been going for a little under three years now, the last 4-6 months of which have been TFA-centric stuff.
I'm ultra-stoked for when we start getting more prequel stuff. I'm going to pig out on TF droids.
Loving the model kit, still need to do some work on it.
Are there any good TIE Fighters or TIE Interceptors? Interceptor a best.
Damn, I found a nicely painted Black Series Rey today and she's actually pretty cool
Not entirely sure how BB-8 works though, is his entire body weighted? Or just certain spots? Is it connected to the headpiece? Cause he tends to lean/sit a certain way depending on where his head's positioned at
Those fantasy flight miniatures look like they'd be pretty good. Fuck the price, though. As far as the Furuta goes, I can't eat sugar right now... But I'll probably eventually at least get the Fantasy Flight Interceptor. Anything bigger in terms of the TIE Fighter or Interceptor?
There really is no quality alternative for larger scale vehicles.
As for Fantasy Flights stuff, you might be annoyed that the flight stand stick is always giong to be in there. Furuta's have stands with ball joints, so you can actually pose them at angles.
Best part about FFG's minis is that in scale with one another. Furuta's scale jumped around to fit inside the boxes.
They're both pretty awesome sources of minis, but Furuta's are a bit hard to come by now since the line has been dead for years.
>...the flight stand stick is always giong to be in there.
Welp, nevermind on those I guess. So basically my only option is model kits? Are they like gunpla? Because fuck, I just started on my first gunpla today, and I have absolutely no desire to git gud at it. The time it is going to take me just to finish this HGUC Z'gok is already disheartening. Fuck... I just wanted some TIEs...
It's annoying, but it's not that bad. You can see how it's broken up into three sections. Only the little nub at the base of the bottom of the ship is permanently there, unless you want to freeze and crack it off.
I've been thinking of buying their Armada stuff, with tini-tiny tie fighters and large capital ships, but they're pretty expensive.
And if you hate Gunpla, which are easy mode models, you're going to be miserable.
Find the Furuta blind boxes (the US ones were labeled) or see if you want to customize some old Kenner/Hasbro diecast Interceptor.
Come on, Bandai, be a bro. 1/12 Popsicle speeder, please.
>Go to Walmart
>Fresh restock, pegs full
>I'll finally get my Hux and Asty
>Maybe they'll even have the Jango/Han wave
>9 Finns, 3 Reys, 3 Kylos, 3 Resistance Troopers
>tfw employee asks if I need help with anything
So I ordered a figuarts kylo ren a few weeks ago. Today I wake up and I have two boxes imported from the divine nation of Japan. One contained my 1 kylo figure, the other contained 3 more kylo figures. I only ordered and was charged for 1.
Now I got to figure out what to do with these 3.
This is why anime belongs in the trash
If anyone is interested in buying one of my Kylo's, I'll post contact information and we can try to figure something out after I get home from work. I'll be home at 12am central time and I will most likely post in this thread. If not this one, then the BTS someone suggested to me earlier.
My first Star Wars figure was Dash Rendar from the same series. I have the figure somewhere in a tub, but I ended up finding another one on MOC at a flea market a year or two ago and my girlfriend bought it for me as a bday gift.
How are the BS FO TIE Pilots?
My local Wal-Mart just stocked on BS figures so there's about 3 Kylos, 4 Reys, 3 FO troopers, and some Resistance troopers. Already have the SHF trooper and Ren coming in and I'm hoping for an SHF Rey & Finn so the TIE Pilot is the only BS figure right now that really catches my eye.
I like him, but I treat figures like statues as soon as I get them into a pose I like. I just have him standing with my others with his hands down. If anything he looks really nice, it's hard to fuck up an all black paint job.
