Blurry Blurr Edition!
Recommended Figure Guide (a work in progress):
Yeah, I want to see some shit that wouldn't look out of place on my classics shelf. Hell, they dont even need to be classic g1 characters, just give me some solidly designed transformer toys that don't stick out like an overly designed thumb.
My biggest dream 3rd party line would be something that just focuses on unconventional alt modes. Taxi-cabs, Busses, farm equipment. I mean I know it would probably be too risky to pull off, but I'd like to see 3rd party stuff -expanding- my toy roster. Most everybody liked Steel Core right?
Maybe not cramming every surface with blocky greebly detail might actually make them less expensive too
One guy in the 3P thread argued that most 3P designers are good 3D modelers, but they're not necessarily good with aesthetics and stylization.
I wholeheartedly agree with that point. it perfectly explains the weird aesthetics you get with 3P designs, and them stacking on more and more layers of detail on their designs
I want a line that turns other famous movie/tv cars into transformers.
Differentiate the designs as much as needed to avoid lawsuits, of course, be we'd all know a transforming delorian when we saw it.
>Differentiate the designs as much as needed to avoid lawsuits, of course, be we'd all know a transforming delorian when we saw it.
We're getting off topic, but like, XTransbots announced MP Windcharger and Tailgate, and one repaint for them is the car from Knight Rider
I get where you're coming from, but your argument would have only made perfect sense a while back. it doesnt hold water anymore cause everyone is doing Masterpiece toys, who look exactly like the characters because of cartoon accuracy. so it doesnt make sense that non-MP designs HAVE to be different..
The mushroom peg (I think that's what it's called?) came off extremely easily.
People assumed it was a manufacturing error, but others reported that their figures didn't have any stress on the peg, and it still came right off. The likely cause is the plastic they used, since their other 2 figures using the same mold didn't have this issue.
Just be patient, anon. Same shit happened with Motormaster and Blackjack.
You guys remember when everyone started scalping blackjack because of some rumor that further releases of him were getting cancelled?
I did. the actual sale price isn't any more expensive than getting them at say, TRU or Walmart. And I may as well get scattershot, on the off-chance that bullshit technobot rumor turns out to be true.
I got the same fucking issue Anon. It's biting my ass every day. I just want to finish my Bruticus team without being fucked in the shitter by scalpers, or forced into buying Red Superion.
>doesn't want tan chest
>"lol wait for Takara"
>the ones that do cartoon accurate figures
>where he had the hideous tan chest
Remember this post? Yeah it's shaping out to be true isn't it?
Get ready for the other pictures soon.
I would except the only person with any kids I know of has girls, and they're far too young for these sorts of toys (ie: They'll break something off or try to eat the fucking cannon or broken bit and choke).
So I'm just going to end up stuck with the guy.
No idea. Just some random pic I saved fuck knows how long ago off a thread in /v/ that someone used as a reaction image.
>Warbatron Bruticus has issues out of the ass and a bad color scheme
>CW Bruticus looks like fat trash
>Fansproject's upgrade/overhaul is the best of the three but it's still polishing a turd
I'm glad I like devastator more. Fuck. Anyone can get 5 different devastators at all sorts of pricepoints but Bruticus gets two shitty hasbro sets and a premium figure that reeks of QC issues.
I might do Fansproject or something. I don't know.
>The same exact mold for the twentieth time
>The same stumpy, wide-as-he-is-tall voyager figure
>Team members consist of the plane deluxe, the car deluxe, and the helicopter deluxe.
They've effectively released the same ~5 CW figures a gorillian times.
>Implying I ever purchased a CW combiner figure
Brainstorm was the last hasbro transformer I bought in store. Bought generations lugnut a couple of weeks ago online . Extremely disappointed with everything from CW.
I don't understand why people collect them. By all means more power to them, but they have to be getting tired of the same five freaking figures by now.
I'm assuming they don't sell these in box sets in stores. They go for 150+ dollars for the full set online.
I think as far as toys go you could do a lot better with 150 dollars then spend it on a set of figures you already own three fucking times.
>spending $150 on any UW/CW set
You fucked up bad if you paid that much. A set of the CW limbs shouldn't be above $65, and a Voyager is around $26. A UW set usually goes for $120-137 or so. And you can usually find any of those with free shipping to boot.
Congrats, you can get maybe one Deluxe or Voyager sized 3P figure for that price. Maybe.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips on tightening joints. I'm new to this kind of stuff and I don't want to mess anything up. I mostly just want to tighten the hips on my Prime so he's more stable in combined mode. Also, what are some cool poses he can do?
It's worked for me so far on every toy I've tried it on.
It's why I bought the Kaon from MMC. The novelty of having a figure that transforms into an electric chair for murderizing other figures on was too great to pass up on.
If you don't mind the Hasbro molds, the upgrade set from PE + mistransforming the Onslaught torso is your best cost to look ratio. If Takara can fix the paint schemes and deliver a proper blast off it might be the best option until some other turd gets around to Bruticus again.
I agree that in combined mode that Fansproject's looks great, but any other mode and its a mess of parts. Cool weapons though.
Apply a small amount of it to the problem area (a drop or 2 from an eyedropper is enough for most ball joints, for example), move said area around a lot as best you can to work it all around that area, then let it sit for a full 24 hours.
It should be fine afterward, assuming you did it right. I've used it on quite a few figures, only one I haven't gotten to work on is my Motormaster, and it's probably because the joint thats floppy on him is a bitch to get the drops into. I have heard some people need more than one application, but besides my Motormaster, none of mine have needed it yet.
Just drop a small amount at each joint and it will spread by itself, it helps also if you move the joint to spread it.
Use a toothpick as an applier since you really need a SMALL amount enough to wet cover the ball and the socket.
So should he open up the ratchet and apply the stuff, or just dab some on the joint itself and work it in?
I've got a hotspot with awful combined mode hips and Id like to see if this strategy works for him as well.
CW Prime's hip ratchets aren't the problem as far as tightness goes, his knees are.
I really need to find some of this stuff for my PE-modded Motormaster. The torso upgrade helps but loose-knees on Motormaster really hurt Menasor after it's been applied.
How many CW combiners do you people have? I mean y'all even spending dosh to upgrade those ugly things? I mean hotopinions.wav but damn the combined mode is ugly af.
$30 is cheaper than $45, dumbass. 1/3 cheaper, actually. That "not supporting Hasbro" adds up after time.
Strong insult when you rely on them so bad for ad revenue, Jin. Or are you still pretending to be Aryan? No one considers you to be white but you, faggot.
I may speak about whatever I please, autist. You aren't obligated to reply.
3. Technically 5, but I don't count Optimus and the G1 squad because I didn't buy them to combine, and the Combaticon's don't count because I don't have Onslaught yet (just ordered him today though). And all have PE feet/fists except Optimus and the Combaticon's (because their set isn't out yet), and my Menasor has the big plastic crotch supporter.
Enjoy what you want to enjoy Anon. I'm just happy to have something that both updates and recaptures my childhood, especially since I'm a newer collector and didn't have a chance to grab much of the stuff pre-CW save for fishing around eBay for deals.
I'm also not made of money, and buying all this stuff to begin my collection was expensive enough as-is, though now I'm starting to look at 3P stuff, mostly Feral Rex to cover my need to have a Predaking, plus he looks pretty close to what Predaking would, which is nice. A lot of the 3P stuff looks pretty odd at times, like all those Devastators with the wrong color green or completely inaccurately colored limbs. Other than that, I want maybe a few others like the FP Dinobot's, maybe Commotus and Hexatron, and that power core-esque IDW The Fallen.
superion with quickslinger and white PE hands/feet. All I needed.
Bought a KO TFC Uranos that I want to MG-ize as I was inspired by someone on TFW making an attempt and they look amazing when you put lipstick on them.
I have all the UW releases so far. I don't plan on buying any of the shitty filler like Optimus though.
I have a third party Menasor and I had a third party Superion up until I sold it. The official ones + add ons are better.
I got CW Bruticus and that's it. I'm happy with it, and it's my first time with any of the molds so I don't really feel cheated. Still buying PE's upgrade set though.
I may end up getting UW Computron if that ever comes to fruition though. Bruticus is my favorite Decepticon combiner and Computron is my favorite Autobot combiner.
I own 3 complete; Superion, Defensor, and Devastator. I'm thinking of getting Bruticus too and finishing off Menasor since I do have the PE upgrades for Motor Master just in case I do finish the whole set.
If demand for the TFCC limbs is low enough, I'll see if I can grab them for cheap so they can become Galvatronus' limbs instead. I think the colors would mesh well, far more than Bludgeon.
Whatever happened to those japanese transforming robots that turned into bullet trains? They were announced a few months ago (i think they may have been made by takara), but nobody's mentioned them since. Only other thing I remember is that they weren't very articulated.
"It's the factory's fault, honest."
-Brian Savage (pic related)
Personally, I just think it's going to break. The leg lock tabs on all my jets are pretty damn tight. I could see Statscream's legs breaking at them if they're anything like the rest of mine in terms of tightness.
Been collecting them since day 1
Alpha Bravo x2
Dead End x2
All the Combaticons including Shockwave x2
All the UW released so far counting Grand Scourge
Also got Runabout and Override from Adventure series
Very annoyed Runamuck and the green Viper are going to be mail orders going to make it very difficult to get
Even more annoyed how limited Deception combiner limbs are, it's why I have so many flipping doubles of them. And it looks like this year is going to be awful with a running change green Brawl, a bunch of narnishing bright Club exclusives and Grand Galvatron which comes with a limb that will likely crumble apart regardless of how you treat it.
Places like BBTS and the like are sold out of Spinster and Needlenose preorders
I wager Bludgeon is the only one to go really cheap, because we have Cyclonus and grand scourge torsos with no limbs
I was that bad person that bought the max of him and break neck on amazon. gifted a couple to friends that got into CW and sold the rest when they spike to that insane $60+ a piece price.
I've only got Menasor, worked on him over the course of a year
Perfect Effect's PC-02
Nonnef Hip Ratchets
Perfect Effect's PC-04
Nonnef Shoulder Locks
Renderform's "The Eliminator" rifle
After some reprolabels I'm pretty much done with him.
Looking to build Bruticus now, for whatever reason there's just no autobot combiners that interest me. I WAS momentarily interested in Defensor, but that didn't last (only long enough to buy Rook)
>Even more annoyed how limited Deception combiner limbs are
The funny part is they should have the lions share of limbs, given they have so many. Hasbro fucked up by making Devy some retardedly huge project, and not making Abominus/Predaking/whatever the fuck those Seacon combiner is named. They could've easily scaled Devy down to Deluxe's and made him his own special box set but kept the combiner pegs, and then made a dedicated Predaking with remolds into Abominus/Seacon combiner.
I just have Motormaster because he's cool, I'd have the other Stunticons/Combaticons in their robot modes, except the Stunticons are gone here and Combaticons haven't been released yet.
Man, the PE set for combiners is awesome, but i think the feet gun modes would be much better if they had peg holes somewhere, so you could stack the feet together and make a sentry or turret type device. Using them as handheld guns is silly since they are so huge.
I'm wondering why they haven't repainted this into animated Prowl colors yet. Seems like an obvious choice.
Yeah, but the problem is that IS just Prime Bulkhead. I'd like to incorporate the character into my regular collection, but I think he should get something new.
I'd be all over homages to Prime Bulkhead, Knockout, and Breakdown (which we're getting), along with some Armada homages especially. Those toys themselves didn't really live up to the excellent character designs and colors.
I'd be down for a TFA combiner team. Problem though. Should bulkhead be the torso or prime? IF they had to be retools use hot spot for prime, rook for bulkhead, of course first aid for ratchet, and groove for prowl. Here's where it gets tricky. Bumblebee won't work for what's available so he can get a new mold. Retool Off Road with a plow up front for a sentinel piece? Maybe do a dead end Jazz?
Reveal the Shield was a weird gray area between Classics and Movie.
working on a sorta upgrade type thing for my computron... thoughts?
When are they going to revive Beast Wars? Not just making new toys of existing characters, but making new characters with new molds that feel like they came right out of the 90's. Like a Maximal hedgehog or a Predacon Daddy Long Legs Spider. Some more sea-creatures might be nice as well.
Make it for the "g1 mode" a panel to lock the arms in place using the 5 mil port on them and some crotch/ leg armor.
The RID15 beasticons seem to be popular enough for them make better versions. Maybe if they become a big hit with the kids, Hasbro might go in that direction.
I don't think anyone wants Pretenders again. Holy shit those toys were terrible. Headmasters and the like were cool (kids losing their toy heads aside), but Pretenders were hideously bad.
I don't even remember what either of these were. Were the Actionmasters the GI Joe like figures that didn't transform?
So far I've only bought a handful, mostly different molds.
First Aid and Ironhide (because the Universe2 version is that bad)
Scattershot (yeah...I skipped Silverbolt because I like the Universe2 version)
I will definitely buy UW Bruticus.
I will probably buy Brawl, Dragstrip or Mirage, Sky Lynx, G2 Menasor.
I would probably buy Lightspeed or Strafe if they make them.
>Eh there's a difference between animal like robot modes that have vehicle alt modes and robots with beast modes.
Sure there is. But if your beast/vehicle hybrid doesn't take off, do you think they'll do a whole new cartoon filled with beast-formers?
Who writes this garbage? I don't think even walky is quite this bad.
Heres a question: Do original beastformers (Grimlock and co, Predaking, any other G1's I might forget like the Seacon's, or the big red preying mantis guy, or insecticons) count as beast transformers? Or are they their own shit? Would a beast line see us with some updated G1 Dinobots?
Or does the beast shit only count 'bots that have non-robotic beast forms (ie: the Beast Wars crew before Transmetal stuff, etc)?
Practical. A Transformer can look great but be a nightmare to play with (Genetations Rattrap), while another can be relatively plain, but be great to play with (HFtD Hubcap). Hubcap is the better figure.
Transmutate's ep was after Airazor was out of the show, so that might have worked. Like Friezabird and Prostitutespider find an apparently female one and get all self-explorey, wondering what a female in terms of Transformer is?
Can you even really call them those if they don't even have those gimmicks? the only reason people call the new leader class Optimus; Powermaster Optimus, is because it's what everyone refers to that bodytype as, even though it's a misnomer.
I'd say this is simply the headmaster line, none of the others make a appearance (a halfassed base mode out a leader isn't what micromaster bases were) and any of them can be the next lines gimmick, but hasbro could do anything else, so it's up in the air.
>people call the new leader class Optimus; Powermaster Optimus
I call him Ginrai, but thats a good point.
I really want to like that new PM Optimus, but I really wish they'd at least give him 2 new guns (both the same), and had the new cab section have bigger boob windows (or hell, have the fake chest armor resemble PM Prime's chest).
Although it's still inaccurate, I to feel ginrai fits the mold better, human piloting a Optimus-esque body? sure, that works, more so than a Optimus headmaster that, on his own, is smaller than most of his troops.
Seriously how does that work, if Apex/Hi-Q is his own entity, where is optimus' mind?
>Japan did it better, tiny robots who control bigger mindless mechs, none of that two linked minds stuff
Yeah, if we ignore that the Autobot Headmasters had super powers for no reason.
The worst part was that I don't think any of the Decepticon Headmasters had any of those things, it was just the Autobots Headmasters, so it made the DH really pathetic by comparison.
That's that stupid thing alot of these types of shows do, as is the sword thing, Power of friendship bullshit. Telepathy isn't that odd. The base concept, I feel, is better than the western one.
>Soundwave can read minds
Ok, this one is kind of bullshit, but it can be chalked up to technology if it's against other robots.
>Skywarp can teleport
Plenty of sci-fi has personal teleporters. Hell, lots of TF space travel tech involves teleporters at times.
>Trailbreaker can make forcefields
Another common sci-fi technology.
>and Bumblebee can drive underwater
He's a transforming car. Being water tight is probably possible. As would be having things for sea locomotion. Unless he doesn't have any propellers or something, in which case, it's kind of bullshit.
>Ok, this one is kind of bullshit,
According to bios, Soundwave's hearing is so good he can hear the electronic signals in other Transformers heads = mind reading
but actually mind listening. :)
Highly poseable TF action figures, either with a style based on the cartoon or an exaggerated anime style
Revoltechs should have been good, but they're based on the Dreamwave art style...
I don't usually keep up with Transformer news I don't read here. TFW2005 and all those other news sites either focus more on third party than first party or have clunky websites that would take hours to load on a supercomputer, let alone my secondhand piece of shit I got in Bedrock.
Rate my haul.
There was more to this but it was non-TF related statue shit
>in Japan every Optimus mold gets a Nemesis recolor without fail
>Hasbro never does Nemesis, and when they do he's some pooey off-black.
You'd think Evil Black and Edgy Optimus would be one of the most bankable bad guys they could sell, up there with Megs and Screams.
Hasbro did it, was gonna buy it but the face was kinda shit.
That and it was one of those god awful fanclub things, this japanese exclusive was cheaper WITH shipping than the fanclub one on its own.
Is there anything more badass than prime cartoon Shockwave? (sans the beast hunters rubber bits)
i never saw the takara version though, that metallic paint is sweet
Are any of those random powers still around today? The only one I know that have been occasionally is Skywarp's teleportation, it was mentioned on his new Leader figure's bio. And at least it makes sense for him, his name is "sky warp" it sounds like he can teleport or something.
WIndcharger has magnetic powers, Glitch can deativacte non-sentient machinery and Skids can learn/adapt fast.
Strongarm can become an impenetrable shield.
really high powered magnets that can warp strong metal can be powers.
But really they're machines, anything they do other than the standard bot can do is a power.
If one can defalcate organic feces then that's a power too using that same logic.
Can't say I'm a fan of that gimmick (or gimmicks at all in Transformers). But Prime Shockwave has the perfect aesthetics for my tastes. I seriously can't think of a better look for the character aside from the Masterpiece.
One dedicated to making sexy, highly-articulated, robot girls.
>inb4 Takara Legends
Not sexy enough.
this was when the episode was speculated to have been directed by Obari. He spoke recently and said he wasnt involved.
I think it was Shin Matsuo, who drew the infamous Studio Ox Devastator crotch
Oh, don't get me wrong, I love that aesthetic, and any animators that contributed to it. Obari is basically my idol when you really get down to it, but I just wanna make sure the right people get the right credit.
>Studio Ox Devastator
Honestly I like it, not sure why people are so butt hurt about it.
Silly looking as fuck. Like something out of JoJo.
I just realized something
What's with SHockwave toys and shitty alt modes?
Energon Shockwave basically didnt transform
Movie Shockwave looks like shit and his turret is off center
Prime Shockwave wins some points by having a cool alt mode design (in the show at least) but the toy execution is less than robust...
With Shockwave, his robot mode has become pretty much iconic to the point where his alt mode is always a secondary consideration.
Just the way it is, and I don't even mind.
>unless Gainax took notes from Ox
they did, just look at the Transforemrs episode from Panty and Stocking, which reference almost every transformers series in existence cause the writers are fans
>complaining about hollow
>when even $120 3P stuff has hollow bits
Shitty trolling that makes you look like a retard is still trolling, Anon.
So if this is real, is this only going to be a box set, or are the rest of the limbs going to be available?
It'd be a real shitshow if Shelfwarmicus Maximus didn't get his limbs outside of a box set including the Shelfwarmer himself.
> Prowl and Smoke screen are both Datsun cars and thus identical.
Have you ever even seen G1 in your life bruh?
I have a bad feeling "Betatron" won't get dedicated limbs and another Scattershot in proper Computron colors will also be released. Kind of the whole Optimus vs. Battle Core Optimus ordeal.
I've been saying all along they were gonna happen.
fuck all you fuckers who doubted me otherwise.
And I was getting ready to paint a couple of customs, Would this set use the rumored Air Raid direct repaint as Strafe?
>I have a bad feeling "Betatron" won't get dedicated limbs and another Scattershot in proper Computron colors will also be released.
No Scattershot will be in his
Transformers: Cybertron colors
.
It's not just hollowness. Toys have always been hollow. Now, though, they're really visibly gappy in all modes, in multiple views. It used to be handled much better.
When the moive toys really started getting going around RotF, they really got the hang taking advantage of the space. Hands were hidden in forearms with panels to cover them in robot mode, Legs fold or collapse into legs, again with panels to cover the spaces. Upper bodies collapse into the empty space that makes up the bulk of alt modes.
Now, though, hands are hard molded to the ends of arms wich are just three sides with an empty back. Legs have huge visible gaps inside the thighs and on the back that are always visible.
It's not just about being hollow, it's about poorly managing that hollowness.
