Let's be happy
old thread: >>5370110
What is one thing everyone is kind of excited for? Nothing you NEED, but something that looks fun.
I'm ready for Warrior Class Thunderhoof. He looks pretty neat. I like these animal like bot modes the decepticons have in RID. Thunderhoof looks demonic. A black repaint would be metal.
Reminder to always announce in the old thread that you've made a new thread.
You can if you want to wait a few months for a reissue of just buy the KO, that more often than not are pretty hard to tell the differences from the legit ones, right now for $30. The common QC issues with those, if you have any, are simple fixes easily found on YouTube.
>KO's are getting so good it's difficult to tell the differences in some cases.
and in some case, it's difficult to believe what the original is compared to the KOs...
got Music Label Soundwave. I have the MP but it's nice to have a small one
People were really singing its praises when it came out, but having it in hand... it's pretty much adequate.
It's obvious that they prioritized the tape mode over the robot mode, cause my main nitpick are his huge forearms plates, which are only there to make the tape mode sleeker
Looks ace with the MP cassettes, though!
I did something similar to my Cheetor a few years back. All I did was swap the lower half of the rear beast legs, and add a waist swivel, though. I also kitbashed it a bit further and made the front beast legs attach to the back kibble instead of the forearms
>Super mode Starscream's box art references the way he sacrificed himself
yeah, the backpack is fucking ridiculous on this toy. All for the sake of accommodating the stupid fucking snarling and eye-change gimmick. It's fucking awful.
Here's another pic of it from a different angle
This toy is the walking embodiment of lost potential.
Universe Dinobot ended up weird because of the nature of his show design. Cheetor on the other hand should be easy to design into a good toy, yet he ended up being fucking terrible
We complain about Airrachnid cause she's terrible too, but at least she looked like the character
just who designed this thing? i hope they got fired
How does the year of the snake omega supreme scale to a CW gestalt/combined form?
I am tempted, and if he scales with one or is slightly shorter I'll be a happy camper, if not I'll just cry when the over sized titan class one comes years later
Omega is a head taller thant TFC Hercules, who's a head taller than CW Combiners
I feel so bad for you. It must suck being a fan of such an obscure and disliked toy. Hardcore headmaster fans at least has Fansproject to deliver them good re imaginings of their nostalgia bait.
Cheetor/rhinox fans? Nah.
I thought tfc was supposed to be...oh wait he's still smaller than the official devastator.
Cheers for the images, he's a big guy but isn't a manlet nor is he over compensating, works fine for me, cheers
CW Devastator is one of the biggest transformers ever, official or otherwise. He's shorter than metroplex and Fort Max but otherwise the biggest.
Generation toy is doing a Devy that's going to be just about the same size as the official one. The combiner ports on the limbs that are already out sit higher than the ones on mixmaster and scrapper so you can assume he'll be bigger.
But for now Devastator is king shit in terms of height.
In overall complexity he trumps metroplex that much is certain.
Would be nice if he was scaled down though perhaps bringing down 6 deluxes to a safe and stable combination may of had issues, thus the over sized devy we have now.
I like the figure and its components as a whole, just a shame he's fan fiction size compared to his bothers
>he's fan fiction size compared to his bothers
Think about it this way, anon.
He's Masterpiece sized!
Voyager Constructicons suddenly makes sense!
... Or if you dont have an MP collection, you can pretend he's transformers Devastation scale
Metroplex and Devy have the same issues. A lot is sacrificed in term of making the figure huge.
If they pinned the 150 price tag, brought them to deluxe size, and put they money and resources to making the crew better you would of had a set that would give Hercules a run for his (admittedly antiquated) money.
He just scales with nothing. He's really long legged and feels a bit too simple.
I tend to try to fix a lot of the shittier TFs that have come out over the past few years. Like Universe Hot Shot. I cut off the tail wings from his shoulders and glued 'em to the rear bumper kibble, freeing up his arms. And I made little extensions for his minicon's feet so it can actually stand on its own. I also gave Universe Ironhide and Ratchet articulated thumbs and fixed their downwards looking heads. If there's simple shit on a toy I can fix, I usually do it.
I was gonna dip on Herc until I saw generation toy's take on the crew. I have to admit I really think that these guys are gonna be the expensive top tier devastator to beat. My scraper is already in the mail.
How much does Metro retail for anyway? I know Takara jacks up prices by 20% or so for mild improvements.
No idea, got my metroplex for $100aud with 5% off.
It was the hasbro version, long before I gained the ability to import, but looking at him now I might be hesitant on importing another figure this big.
not the guy that got butripped in the last thread but if I may actually provide an answer to the guy asking why someone would buy the Hasbro Devi instead of a third party one, no one seemed to want to actually answer him.
This is all just me on this, this may apply to others but let's assume not, just stick a big IMHO in front of this whole thing.
People keep talking about the quality of 3P toys over what we get with Hasbro and frankly I've never seen it. Yes just about everything looks really good in pictures but I have yet to see a single review of a 3P toy (any 3P toy) that doesn't include the words "fiddly" "broke off" "Doesn't quite fit right" "No instructions" "just doesn't match" or some variation there of. If I'm going to pay well over $100 for a single component of a much larger combiner then it had better be fucking perfect, and yes I know they have a smaller company and they don't have the money that Hasbro does but just think for a moment. How many 3P figures these days come with large parts to fix major issues on previous releases? I can think of several off the top of my head, hell Hercules had fixes through out it's entire run and even required an add on kit almost the same cost as a figure to complete him.
In the end is CW Devi perfect, oh hell no. Is he a decent toy. Sure. Does he look like Devistator towering over my other figures, and am I terrified that if I take him apart he'll crumble, yes and no respectively.
So you enjoy paying out the ass for a really good looking very poseable toy. I have Devistator in my collection and I didn't break the bank. In the end I have something I can play with and enjoy on several levels, and you've got something that looks pretty, really shouldn't be touched, and provides an ego boost. Can't we both be happy?
TL;DR Play with what you love and love what you play with and
>no one seemed to want to actually answer him.
Gee, I wonder why...
I respect your opinion family. I don't think third party figures are nearly as fragile as you let on, although there are several instances of shitty exceptions to that. Vangelus makes a point to chuck every 100 + dollar toy he reviews at the wall to show that they aren't flimsy pieces of shit. That whole line of reasoning seems a bit like conformation bias.
Third party toys have arguably more play value because they are capable of much more poses on average. They have a better heft due to parts count and often times die cast parts. The high price tag goes a long way towards getting a better figure.
Price disparity is a huge downside, sure, but don't imply that third party toys are only for shelf display. I guarantee that Hercules can survive more drops than devastator could.
I asked a question and you refused to answer because I was apparently cyber bullying you.
Again, if criticism is trolling than I suggest you begin a blog page on tumblr so you can block my nasty words that trigger you so much.
I don't think devastator is good enough to justify the price tag considering Hasbro can do (and does) a lot better. You're entitled to disagree with me but posturing and crying rape because I said things you disagreed with is juvenile.
What, he asked first?
Was also going by >>5378535 said which may of confused both of us
Well I know the thrilling 30 was by hasbro/takara, sorry I did intend it to be a slight joke until I remembered I suck at them.
I believe fansproject is their name but from google I can't see shit, I don't follow third party figures so I clearly have no idea if one existed, which it apparently doesn't.
I pulled out my Beast Wars 10th Cheetor yesterday and it's just ridiculous how much of a better toy he is compared to the Universe one.
I should buy another one sometime to kitbash. Maybe give it articulated front cheetah legs and a balljointed head without the stupid mutant gimmick.
For those who got MP Ultra Magnus
Just wondering, would the Combiner wars UM make a good stand in for the MP with the proper add on (moving feet and waists)?
I do have some MP and all, but in term of play, they are a little bit on the big side.
The CW UM seems good but to make it perfect the additional cost would push it almost to the MP.
So, any suggest?
It completely defeats the purpose to stand in the MP one with the Leader figure if you're gonna bridge the cost gap with upgrades to make him MP tier.
Might as well go with the actual masterpiece figure.
pretty much this. I have it and love it, but because I have it I might not ever get the MP mainly because that shits like $300 to get here in Canada. So Ill settle for this guy cause I got him for like $30 at TRU a month or so ago.
I really need to upgrade Steeljaw's sad crew.
well, I usually find it at like $200 plus from retailers, I know I could probably get it a little cheaper on like ebay or what ever But I just don't trust those places after my past history.
I know bbts and ts source gouge a little but at least you have a certain guarantee.
I'm so sorry. You poor syrupnigger man. That blows ass. I paid like ten dollars worth of shipping on a 100 dollar figure and I thought that was steep. Guess I'll count my blessings.
You know the more I stair at it, the more I think it's actually all just a remolded generations scoop. If it has the irritating gap between the transformed wheels then it defiantly is.
It's even worse at the few conventions I can even get to, I went to the Calgary comicon right after it came out and people were wanting almost $400 for it then. Told one guy to get fucked then picked up MP grimlock and metroplex for $80 a piece.
No. Maybe similar design and/or transformation, but not a remold. People are weird about the RiD stuff. I saw someone the other day say they "knew" warrior fracture was a retool of Prime Arcee...
>MP Grimlock and Metroplex for 80 dollars a piece
What? was that a bad price? they were factory sealed and shit? I always see them go for more online.
>What? was that a bad price?
Are you serious anon? thats a fucking great price!
ahh, well that's the crux though isn't it?
Being in canada, it was the Canadian metroplex...
which means that it only has sounds and no speaking lines in his gimik, because in canada you have to make a toy in both english and french, or at least make a version of each.
It's the same reason our deluxes don't tend to have the comics or bios packed in.
Still, he just sits there next ti fort max anyway so what does it matter.
Would /tfg/ buy Beast Wars toys that exposed beast mode innards/bone/muscle in robot mode?
Well that's your problem then.
HLJ has it for about $150 CAD and on top of it the shipping is only roughly +30 bucks on EMS. I paid $240 CAD for mine when it came out over a year ago since I pre-ordered it from somebody I know and not HLJ cause I thought it would have been convenient.
>Told one guy to get fucked
No you didn't. I call Bullshit to you actually telling the guy selling the item to Fuck off.
LOL That sucks. During TFcon, another dealer sold me his ACG Metroplex which is basically the really fancy SDCC version but with the decoys being colored differently loose but 100% complete with unapplied stickers for $125 he just threw the box away and I do love pressing his buttons till he says "Metroplex heeds the call of the last Prime."
Do any of you know about a Transformers collectors book called Transguide? This is a sample page. It looks so cool... Any links to download or to read the full thing would be greatly appreciated.
Here's another page of the Transmanual, the last one I have. Really nice looking book, there must be a link floating around somewhere to peruse it.
We could really do with a new Cheetor in Generations. But I'm not expecting one because they're focusing on Headmasters after Combiner Wars and from what I've seen and heard, Generations Rhinox is STILL shelf-warming like a motherfucker in a lot of places.
I think both are good in their own ways, and you buy what you enjoy.
Some 3P stuff is spot on, some looks like a fucking mess compared to the real thing. I know I wouldn't ever go with a 3P Devy, because what Hasbro delivered looks like what it's supposed to be. The others have too much shit that looks "off", Hell, sometimes the entire color is off.
Best 3P combiner is probably Feral Rex by a mile, as it's pretty true to it's source (only thing that strikes me as "off" about it is the sword being a fiddly piece-together thing rather than a big, solid, golden Fuck-You sword of chopping), there isn't a Hasbro/Takara version, and it's apparently pretty fucking solid.
Only other guys I can think of that haven't gotten new toys in a few years besides those are Wreck-Gar and Scourge, but their older toys were good enough from what I hear. I only own Wreck-Gar but he's pretty cool.
I hear that we're getting a Headmaster Scourge (space boat I assume) in that same wave with Skullcruncher, Hardhead, and Blurr. I guess Legends Wreck-Gar kinda counts as a recent toy, too? Don't see the retool potential in a new one though to be honest.
Probably means the BTS one. Cancelled.
>toy made for kids
>of a bright blue robot
In the same way that they re-did the season 1 guys in CW, because the older generations stuff is harder to find at this point, I imagine it's the same with the movie guys now.
Wouldn't be surprised if the near future has a new Tracks, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Hoist, Red Alert and Jazz, as well as Hot Rod, Scourge, Kup, and Wreck-Gar.
>as well as Hot Rod, Scourge, Kup, and Wreck-Gar.
This is what I'm hoping for. We got CW Leader Ultra Magnus, Voyager CW Cyclonus, a TW Galvatron and Blaster coming (ok, he didn't originate in the movie, but still, he was in it), and rumors of a Scourge plus the other '86 bots.
I want my fucking full set of '86 bots! Since I'm newish to collecting I never had a chance at the Generations ones except Arcee.
>WAAAH YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO COMPLAIN IT'S JUST A BLURRY IMAGE
>WAAAH YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO COMPLAIN IT'S JUST AN EARLY PROMO SHOT
>WAAAH YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO COMPLAIN NO ONE HAS IT IN HAND YET
>WHAT? IT'S OUT AND YOU'RE STILL COMPLAINING? STOP BEATING A DEAD HORSE WAAAH STOP WHINING
Tfg will never cease to amaze me
>be last year
>have two generations Whirls and one generations Skybyte at Targe
>warmed shelves for at least the four months I've lived here
>leave for six months
>mfw when I come back and the gang is still all there
>mfw when four months after that the gang is still warming the shelf
over a year of shelf warming
To be fair I think a lot of older 3rd party stuff looks like original off-brand transforming robots you'd see at Biglots and drugstores and Chinatowns, just better engineered and articulated. It's that rigid, blocky look that feels more stiff than usual G1 stuff.
Just went to Walmart today. None where I live. Feels bad, man.
So, I organized the list and added some more categories. What else should be added?
>i will never get a rts lugnut or universe inferno for under $60
i lucked out and bought both for 75 bucks last year
dat bbts customer service for a broken leg panel on MT Tailgate
Now that the holidays are over, I'm once again hunting for TF stuff
but what the hell's up with CW Onslaught? All the places selling him are selling him for absurd prices, not selling him without that sorry excuse for a Scattershot, or just plain sold out, same with Legends Shockwave.
>out of budget
>for the company churning out Star Wars figures
They're probably sleeping naked on piles of hookers, blow, and cash right now, and wiping their asses with 100's. Hasbro has money, lots of it.
He hasn't even arrived at stores I've seen in NY. Dunno where the fuck he is. No one has the motherfucker except price gouging cockstains, or people refusing to sell him without Shelfwarmicus Maximus.
Which is why it's all the more vexing no one (online anyway) seems to have Onslaught yet. Walmart, Toys R Us, Amazon, Hasbro themselves, etc. Because that means the only options are buying scalpershit, or having to take some shitheads double deal with Onslaught+Scattershot just to save them shelf space on a character they know won't sell.
It's not that buying a set is expensive. It's that I shouldn't have to buy a character I don't care about, from a combiner that is forgettable at best and may or may not get fully made just so some shithead can save shelf space, all so I can get the character I do want to form one of the series most memorable combiners.
>what goddamned flea market has transformers?
I've gotten a Cybertron Downshift, Alternators Smokescreen, RID Heavy Load, and HFTD Sea Spray at a flea market. You just have to know where to look. There was a place at my local one that sold vintage toys and stuff.
unfortunately i'm all the way in SEA, Malaysia
we have a dedicated small mall/fleamarket for collectors to sell their old shit and stuff, from old coins and pots to transformers and he man
>>i will never get a rts lugnut or universe inferno for under $60
What the hell? I got a used Lugnut for 30 bucks last year, from Jamaica.
Who the hell sells him for 60?!
>The Derpicons are a group of 5 idiotic cybertronian outcasts. The group's trademark is their leaky transmissions, which cause them to constantly leak oil from every part of their body
>The group consists of Hypothermia, Vomit, Ashtray, Tang, & Arson
>The Derpicons combine to form Stupidus Maximus
In fairness to him, MP01's faceplate is removable, but it's not meant to be; you kinda have to pry it off. Compared to the others, who have "MOVING FACEPLATE!" on the box in big letters.
It looks like a very, very bad attempt at a G2 Defensor.
Right right, fine. Forgot I actually have that little bugger.
How about why haven't we had one that's at least the size of a deluxe? A voyager or leader class evil fire truck would be amazing.
...And no saying movie Sentinel. Smart-asses.
Yeah, on a forum once and ask if Cyclonus' (meaning the universe mold) legs could collapse in vehicle mold, and all I got was snarky replies.
So always clarify, don't give cunts anything to work with.
Hell, I'll make it easier:
PM Optimus Prime
Those Titan head things
Hey, MY-bro, Hasbro brought in the CW Combaticons/Shockwave waves there yet?
Across the causeway, they have been busy clearing the older, overstocked CW/RID toys while promoting the TFA toys. Barely any new TFs have showed up.
nope, the only new tf shit are the RID stuff, megatronus and such, no new CW yet
though the retailers are telling me the Combaticons are probably hitting the end of this month, need that tiny Shockwave
Wow, you got RID wave with Fracture? No new RID here. They are still trying to clear the old ones.
I'm hoping I get to see Shockwave. Puerto Rico's pretty bad when it comes to Legends figures. They'll either show up in very small quantities, or not show up at all, not to mention only TRU carried them for a few years. It's only recently other stores started carrying them (the last wave being the only one that's shown up for more than a month).
>they're making ko's of the mp11 mold
1. Original size
2. Additional head
3. Better waist rotation
4. More diecast parts
5. More durable plastic material used
Granted I got the hasbro version but I really wanted that spiffy cape, could I get away with getting the bootleg and keeping the crown while selling off the figure?
>tfw when i just want the spiffy crown but was too cheap for the takara original
So they're legit making one? What a shame. I should have waited a few years instead of buying that piece of shit mold.
If the thing could actually hold together it'd be a good toy, but that torso assembly is a fucking mess
And now, the more expensive version of that picture!
Already in progress!
And now, the more expensive version of that picture!
Oh my got, that Menasor. He looks so nice, but I've heard nothing positive about transforming him.
Never seen one for sale.
I own an MP Starscream. I imported the Hasbro Asia Coronation Starscream during the year between releases when he was super expensive.
He is honestly one of the worst Transformers I own. His Jet mode is amazing, but his robot mode is a sloppy mess. The KO can only be an improvement.
>Combiner wars UM
If you can get him cheap I would say go for it.
The figure is like 7/10 in my book. Not bad overall but hands and feet kinda drag an almost perfect UM to something like a deluxe class figure. I do like him more in term of the overall look than the MP though.
With that being say I am still on the fence about getting the MP though. The local sellers are having pre order for the next rerelease and they are only about 100 usd.
Classics scale Guzzle by GCI
Wait, you're right. Sorry. And I'm the anon who posted that first pic after the guys from the biggest Italian toy store chain managed to be the first one in the world showing it on their Facebook page.
Ironically, Italy isn't getting it. And we are getting Ultra Magnus only now.
Is it because they have a lot of blackwash and that means the figures are black and subject to police brutality?
Or is it because they just looked fucked up and the police fuck people up during police brutality.
I've been trying to figure out the joke for like five minutes now.
Still, I feel this is currently a issue that Hasbro has, they feel the need the ram in all these characters into lines, over more suitable characters. They don't need to rush it, do it organically.
FP menasor is going to get pushed over by the new kids on the block.
>Hasn't Combiner Wars killed this market?
No. There are a lot of people who want good representations of their favorite robots because they are highly discriminating collectors. They don't just want to own a toy to "check it off the list", they want to own it because they like the way it looks. Out of all the CW gestalts, Menasor, in particular, looks like a pile of hot garbage.
A "pretty alright" combiner may as well be non-existent to a discerning collector with disposable income. I'm not really into combiners in the first place, but with me, a toy is usually "want" or "don't want", and money is no object if it falls into the first category. Pretty much all of Combiner Wars fell into "don't want", and it didn't matter how cheap they were. They could have sold them for half the price and I wouldn't have bought them because I don't like the way they look.
It's not even about being "perfect G1" (to me, at least), I just want a quality product.
But you're right, most turd parties go overboard with their engineering and greebling. They're too focused on trying to beat Takara/Hasbro at their own game, or add their own touch to a figure. I wish there were a happy medium. Some 3P products are finally getting in line and learning to tone it down to match the MP aesthetic, which is pretty great.
You can say that for Superion, and somewhat Bruticus and Defensor, but for Menasor? You can't tell me that he looks great, he's built like an aging lesbian. Even the 3rd party ones don't look great. FPs take on him is meh and overengineered while somehow becoming lazy with the legs by just stapling cars onto stilts.
As far as I'm concerned we don't have a good representation for Menasor yet, G1 or not.
Yeah you REALLY have to like the style or settle since there's no other. That's what a lot of people did before CW. it's what I've done with Animated Wasp. They never gave him his car mode and I settled for the 3P mini bumblebee repaint. Mind you it didn't cost hundreds like the 3P combiners do, but still.
Yeah, I want to see some shit that wouldn't look out of place on my classics shelf. Hell, they dont even need to be classic g1 characters, just give me some solidly designed transformer toys that don't stick out like an overly designed thumb.
My biggest dream 3rd party line would be something that just focuses on unconventional alt modes. Taxi-cabs, Busses, farm equipment. I mean I know it would probably be too risky to pull off, but I'd like to see 3rd party stuff -expanding- my toy roster. Most everybody liked Steel Core right?
Maybe not cramming every surface with blocky greebly detail might actually make them less expensive too.
