The hunt for all things new begins after a month-long tease and early discoveries. Will you partake in the acquisition of Winter 2016 sets?
How long does shipping take when you order from Lego.com?
To the anon that wanted pics here you go.
I'm still out shopping around so I have yet to open any of them.
So I was building a creature-compatible arm rig for old Gali but then Uxar got ripped
I hit art block. Post suggestions on what to build.
It's just all 12 of the wave. But yes it is alot of bonkle.
Also here is the Lavaria and the 2 free packs I got with my purchases.
Better? I gave him knockoff Axxon hands. I don't have the mini fig bonkle arms to give him great hands.
Yeah exactly like that. And this nexo key chain to hold a power crest.
Wip is the black guy. Gonna take proper pics of these guys soon. Have a few more really good Mocs too. Gunmetal and red guy is almost all ccbs. Took me like a week to figure out a big ccbs skeleton
God they all look so bad because of bad photo.
Here's a close up of black guy anyways
Can't really see depth or anything on shitty res pics with flash. Here's one in natural light.
It's a desk lol, only pieces out are ones I'm trying to work with.
Have two of these shelves full of parts (at least one of every set there is, some up to 3)
Need to clean up the chest on this guy and make some better lower arms.
He's nearly all ccbs. Making the skeleton was hell.
Show this to anyone that says you can't build big figures out of ccbs
Started making this guy to use up all my gold pieces I'll probably never use. Turned out really nice.
Second latest thing I've built.
Need to pick up some tan throwbot heads for feet
Lastly, here's a picture of my cat laying in some pieces I was messing around with
Also, anyone who says that probably never made anything bigger than an Inika-build.
Looks cool, maybe war hammer inspired. The Luke head is funny.
Going to upload good photos, taken with a real camera, of all those Mocs I posted soon.
Might even make a (spoiler) bzp or eurobricks account (spoiler).
Should be fine as long as I ignore the retards.
You're after what, MOCing (making custom stuff)? Generally its a good idea to get a few sets at first to give yourself a starting point, and then order individual parts you want via bricklink. Sadly there isnt much of a way to easily buy the parts in bulk so bricklink is the best option there is.
Thanks, they're from the Lego dimensions portal.
Can't wait to post a more flattering and complete pic of the moc. Colours look nice together.
I would say but a bunch of sets and disassemble them. Can get a wide range of pieces that way.
Unfortunately a lot of pieces no longer run frequent in sets or have been retired completely.
Try to buy a shitload of used pieces on Craigslist, goodwill or a yardsale.
If you need a specific part or parts you can use Bricklink and get it used for cheap.
It's been too long since I MOC'd anything up. I'm excited to get some new sets.
>jungle man with voodoo staff
I sure can dig it, man.
Do you only have post-Bionicle CCBS parts? You still make do pretty well without any HF-era stuff, but I wonder
>make some kind of snake creature using the 2016 creature head
>use Unite function to build a headless suit of armor for it
Rahkshi. It even has a side-to-side arm movement due to the assgear.
Thanks. And yeah, I've got every early 2015 set and nothing else. I collected in 2001/2002, stopped collecting for a few reasons, got a pang of nostalgia for the early 2015 sets, and just bought all those.
So I bought some of the new sets, along with a First Order Stormtrooper. The first thing I did was immediately build a rough Z6 Riot Baton for him.
Don't have the set yet, but here's a pic stolen off a video review.
>not living in your bro's natural habitat
>not taking sweet outdoor pics
Can you even call that living?
Not everyone can live in the land of Australia, where everyday is a fight for survival against camel spiders, kangaroos, and crickey knows what else that barren abyss holds.
(dont have camera here with me so excuse the shitty LDD mock-up)
I basically just moved the tail back by replacing the blue pin on the ball piece on the back of his torso with a grey 3 long axle (though one of those pieces that is 2m of axle with a pin at the end (featured on LoSS and Kulta works better) and replaced the tail with a gear to operate the mechanism, this was all pretty subjective stuff really. I found it made the torso not feel quite as tall and just more well balanced to me. Though the arms don't hold their positions as well without the tail resisting their movement.
It's funny to me how the 'crystal lower arms' thing works on Onua and not on Pohatu
You could get into a LUG (Lego User Group) in your area, I've heard of something called LUGbulk where LUGs can buy parts in bulk.
Though I know fuckall about it because Ive never been a part of a LUG.
Australian release dates are out. This combined with no Nexo Knights until February is pretty shit.
Love all around for this moc, loving that skirt. Would throw in a white accent or two due to the white head, and also the Grievous chest looks a little out of place due to the green to me. Expecting updates.
jesus christ Bionicle is such shit now.
>implying 2016 isn't better.
Shield gun is kinda strange but at least he feels a lot more like G1 kopaka in terms of build and weapon.
also what is it with the new year that brings in all the shitposters?
Gali a shit. I think they're all pretty good though, especially with some small modifications here and there. And IMHO how good they are also depends on whether or not they're united. For example Tahu is bottom tier alone but god tier with his creature.
Generally, I mean it varies a bit, for me it goes something along the lines of:
Tahu > Lewa > Kopaka > Pohatu > Onua > Gali
But yours seems to be the general consensus of the fanbase with one or two swapped around. I feel like the Toa this year are a lot more sensitive to the tastes of the individual then last years, these are just overall more polarizing I guess. Umarak is better then every other G2 set though.
Dark blue arms and only having gold on the thighs really limits the appeal.
Luckily if you're smart and didn't skip Hero Factory, or at least are willing to sacrifice 2015 Kopaka, you'll have the same shells in white.
As for the thighs, maybe Gali's Crystal piece would fit better.
I don't moc too often but heres some goblin guy I made, needs a name.
2016 Kopaka is pretty easy to fix I find. Just swap out his gold thigh armor for Gali's silver (Gali needs a full rework to look good anyway, so you might not even need these parts if you dont plan on buying extra) and swap his arms for his 2015 thighs, which have a better color and strangely well-fitting stickers.
You could also just leave him with his golden mask on all the time or try to squeeze in some bits of gold onto his upper body if you really dont want to swap out the thigh armor (though completely removing it is also an option).
Yeah you could say a lot about the 2015 Toa's design, but you can't argue that they look clean, good, and unified.
Sure, stuff like Pohatu's automail arm, Lewa's gangly proportions, and Onua's massive girth may have not been to everyone's taste, but they looked damn good.
Honestly my only real complaint with 2015 in hindsight is that the release dates of all the books werent sooner, I feel like we could have used "Revenge of the Skull Spiders" and the "Gathering of the Toa" graphic novel a lot earlier since the former gives us a good amount of lore, worldbuilding, and new characters, while the latter gives us a look visually at various parts / aspects of Okoto that were underdeveloped in the animations.
Lewa is... Just different in his Uniter form. I personally miss the keetorange, but Uniter still looks finished.
I really want to like Uniter Gali. I love the use of orange, and Trans light blue bones with orange shells then silver addons looks sooo good, but she needs a lot of work to stand next to Master Gali.
Pohatu just needs a bit of burnt orange shells added back in and he does fine, possibly including the body shell with the 2015 version.
As long as Onua's shoulders aren't too spiky he looks good, though going back to his previous feet may be better.
Tahu has been shown to need a bit of red added back in to look his best. As for the azure details I don't know, but in pictures they somehow work.
This really. It's good to see 2015 isn't going to be the norm for G2 since we're getting a graphic nivel early this year and hopefully JtO will be better than the animations, I'm really digging the art style.
I'm really impressed overall with how 2016 so vehemently address the general concerns / criticisms the majority seemed to have with 2015. Fans complained they looked too textured / too "Hero Factory", Lego dumps a bunch of new and old pieces on us that are unmistakably "Bionicle", fans say the masks pop off too easy, they improve that as well. Hard to say if this is in the same vein or not, but it also feels like Umarak's $20 price point and substantial figure is an improvement made over the rather unsubstantial LoSS.
Say what you will about the 2016 sets, but it's really nice to see how the set designers have listened to fan feedback. I just hope that sales don't let them down.
When I was picking up my onua today, there were three lil kids huddles around the few new sets my store had, a look of awe on their faces. Their mom came by and bought them tahu, onua and Umarak after they begged her for a minute or two
There's still hope boys
There's still hope
I don't really like to rank them, but here's my first impressions of Pohatu and Umarak, who I own, and Kopaka, Onua, and Gali, who my friends own:
Pohatu: Decent ununited, United his Karate chop arms are kind of silly but he definitely looks better in real life. Looks really good if you spread the spikes out like wings. Pohatu is also VASTLY improved if you separate his weapon into a throwing spear and a mace. Overall he's my favorite for play, but loses some points as far as aesthetics go.
Onua: Despite the complaints, still pretty stronk and pretty wide. A bit unwieldy in his United form but very good. I dig the wide shoulders. Very good looking, good for play.
Umarak: Still a must-have. Looks better with trap pauldrons single, but they become unwieldy when he's united. Looks REALLY scrawny without them if he isn't united though. Lots of features and value, good for play and VERY good for display, and even comes with a bonus trap piece. Kopaka, eat your heart out.
Gali: My least favorite overall, and pretty bad ununited. HIGHLY recommend replacing the axle and pin connector attaching her orange armor bit with one of the hinge parts (like the ones in the middle of the traps) for articulation. Her weapon is garbage. The function is weird and doesn't work unless you hold it in place, and the swinging chain just doesn't deliver, especially compared to Pohatu's boulder of death. United she's a bit better but honestly she's much better as a display piece than a toy.
Kopaka: Surprisingly, much better than I was expecting. Still pretty low tier on his own but looks really good United. He would have looked better the the gold sword he had in the prototype leaks. My main complaint with him is I feel like the developers made a 15 dollar set but realized he was supposed to be a 20 dollar set and just slapped two gold parts on him. Weapons aren't anything special but they look good. Better than Gali, but still much better for play than display.
They've done an excellent job this year, I think. Last year was okay, but this year absolutely SCREAMS Bionicle. Tons of improvements all around, although I feel like a good half of the toa were designed around their united forms and suffered for it. I look forward to seeing what Summer holds.
Are they really selling poorly? They've been in decent demand in the local stores in my area, and after Christmas all that was left in the local walmart were a couple galis, some protectors, and a single skull scorpio, and at the Lego Store I saw a couple people buying the new sets and one guy even bought his kid every single one of them.
The new chestpiece looks like a clusterfuck
Their color schemes are all over the place
They have really short limbs and really long torsos
The new Unite piece and the Crystal shell addons are cool though
>Overall he's my favorite for play, but loses some points as far as aesthetics go.
This comment seems oddly deja-vu when on the topic of G2 Pohatu sets.
>My main complaint with him is I feel like the developers made a 15 dollar set but realized he was supposed to be a 20 dollar set and just slapped two gold parts on him.
I feel like they had a bit of an odd case with budget here honestly, I feel like what we have is a set that is slightly more substantial than a 15 dollar set and less substantial then a 20 dollar set, packaged with a creature that is less substantial than the others (sacrificing his complexity to buff out Kopaka a bit) so that Kopaka can still look like one of the meatier Toa, but they can sell Umarak as a $20 dollar set and still have the exact same price for the entire wave as they did last year.
Honestly it is hard to tell with sales, since it seems to vary WILDLY from region to region. In North America they seem to be doing decently enough, Sold like hotcakes for the first month or so due to nostalgic fans, but tapered off quite a bit later on to still sell, though less popular than lego system sets by quite a margin. We really don't have the data to say for sure one way or the other though.
I absolutely cannot understand what went wrong with Kopaka unless they were trying to rob people blind, which seems almost out of character.
If they'd just added a shadow trap and given Kopaka some better weapons, the set could have potentially been AMAZING, and probably would have sold a ton better. The shadow traps on the box only have 11 parts (two trap halves, four legs, two parts for the hinge, two pins, one eye) and I'm sure they could have found room to give Kopaka some action features beyond a six shooter. Hell, if the six shooter was removed altogether, that would free up a TON of parts, including the parts on his leg, and give plenty of wiggle room for something better. It absolutely baffles me how thoroughly they managed to drop the ball with him.
Lego seems surprisingly phobic about trans-purple colors. It's a really strange design choice that I feel would have been more appropriate for, say, Kopaka, and they could have saved blue-gold crystal armor for Toa Ekimu, giving us a whole extra color of the parts to build with.
Lego needs to pump more effort and funding and advertising into Bionicle. I mean, it's the brand that pulled Lego out of a nosedive that, had it continued, would've ended Lego as a whole. It lasted several 'Waves' longer than most themes ever last, all due to the love from the fans.
Ninjago is a poor man's Bionicle,
Lego needs to appeal to their actual fanbase- autistic teenager NEETs. Kids 8-14 don't play with toys anymore- they just watch shitty minecraft retards and text. You gotta go for the obsessive late teens- young adults who have the money. Mask packs would've sold like hot cakes, and you don't even need new molds at this point. Solid color and recolor versions of the Protector and Uniter masks. A full set of each Master mask in each of 6 colors plus gold, silver, and gunmetal. Skull Spiders in weird colors like dark red and orange. People would be eating those up like candy.
As I said, it was probably some budget shit in order to let Umarak be what he is. Personally I feel like stud-shooters dont contribute to the price of sets much since its the volume of plastic that effects the price moreso than the amount of parts (as if one just looked at parts, the price per part ratio on Umarak and Akida looks like an absolute steal).
As it stands, you are hardly getting robbed by buying Kopaka and Melum, the set costs the same as a 15 dollar and 10 dollar set, except you have to buy both at the same time rather than separately (which doesn't matter at all for a collector). Hell in my country (Canada), you actually save a bit of money for that arrangement.
Piece wise he is tied with Umarak but features a lot more large pieces compared to Umarak's many smaller technic pieces. The weapons are kinda subjective and I like the sword a LOT more than his spear last year, but find the shooter shield less imposing than his old one.
I guess subjectively you really hate the set, though have to say it feels like the opinion on him is pretty mixed and not negative across the board (my only true complaint is the misplaced gold).
Lego is a bigger deal now than when Bionicle first came out, and it really just doesn't completely fit their modern brand image, so Nexo Knights gets to have advertising that puts certain video games to shame.
I really like Umarak. There's some very clever integration of the trap into his body, and it seems like the build took a lot of cues from powered up Skull Grinder, which is great because I always felt like he was the set the build team WANTED to produce, but the part count combined with him being boxed with Ekimu would have just made it way too impractical. I hope Umarak the Destroyer is just as good, because the Hunter has raised the bar RIDICULOUSLY high. My biggest worry is if he's meant to combine with the beasts I fear his solo design may be thrown under the bus for the gimmick, like many of the Toa. Overall, I'd say he's the best Bionicle set we've seen yet.
>going to build my cart with the new sets on lego's site
>have a cart with Umarak and several toa and beasts
>notice I have an email from my grandma
>she bought me Umarak because it wasn't out in time for Christmas
>despite the fact that she already got me MM vs SG on Christmas already
Saw all the sets at Toys R Us yesterday, the Lego Store didn't put any 2016 sets out ahead of release though. I gotta say, I don't really care for the new wave. Apart from Onua and Umarak, which both look fucking awesome, they seem to all be really thin and lanky and look awkward. And Gali (my favorite from the last wave) just looks like shit with the asymmetry and her terrible weapon. Maybe I can mod her in a way that I'll be satisfied with but I don't care for her set at all in its stock form.
Ugh. In other news, Target has some of the 2015 sets on clearance now. Picked up Skull Basher for $10.
If you look into the comments under some guy named "The Gray Kirby" Callan says the following and I quote "The new armor shell is awesome, the masks aren't as bad as pictured though the silver still annoys me, and some of the trans armor pieces are neat(trans purple studs look great). The new chest armor is not that great, but the BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT IS THE NEW TORSO. The gimmick is awesome, but it's just a tad too long and it throws the whole figure off for me."
Tisk tisk tisk, even when he gets his way, he's still disappointed...
>Kopaka and Melum are actually only 25 dollars
Well fuck me, I take back most of the bitching I've done about it in the last few months. Still disappointed it doesn't have a trap but I've already bricklinked everything except the trap halves so I'll live.
>"The sets are too simple and Hero Factory-ish! Where's my old texture?"
>"The sets are too complicated and have too much texture!"
Someone at BZP also called the new armor piece dumb for not being easily compatible with CCBS.
The most annoying thing is that he asked specifically for a new torso that was to separate parts to have a for of waist articulation and then when he got that he whines that it's not short enough. He's the Bionicle equivalent of a pre-teen girl whining that her new iphone, for christmas, was the wrong color.
Are you retarded?
There's a difference between being tastefully detailed and looking mechanical (example: piece of unity, looks great) and then you have the chest piece, which just has like 20 pistons spammed all over the place
I feel like the Unity Piece and the torso armor were designed by two different people (they almost definitely were). One evokes the G1 aesthetic successfully while the other has fucking nine million pistons and nothing else. Like "muh pistons" are the only thing that separate Bionicle and HF.
Same story at B&N, where two kids (high schoolers by the look of them) were sheepishly checking out the sets. We talked about how cool the new sets were and how great it was to see them on the shelf at last (and they said they had checked the local TRU and found them there, too). They grabbed the last Onua and a Pohatu, I picked up an Umarak.
Umarak is good shit. I love everything about him except his ankles being a little limited in motion, he feels like a smaller Witch Doctor to me, in terms of iconic looks. His colors manage not to look like a clusterfuck, and my gf keeps calling him Wendigo and reposing him to look like he's stalking something.
I can't wait to pick up some more sets for 2016. Gradually this time. I grabbed all of 2015's winter wave at once, and the excitement drained a little too quickly. Not making that mistake again.
I like to think the dark red bohrok eyes are meant to be exposed muscle tissue.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if this is the route Umarak TD takes.
A bit off topic but I don't know why From Software don't license some of their characters from Dark Souls and Bloodborne (though that would require Sony) out to figure companies, they do it with Armored Core and Dark Souls has far surpassed that in terms of sales and popularity for them. You have no idea how much dick I'd suck for a Moon Presence figurine. There has to be a market for this shit, I can't be the only one.
Never going to play it due to it being console exclusive, more so because DS wasn't my thing at all. But I can understand what people see in Blood Borne. I really dig the visual design of it.
I understand, they're not for everyone but they do have some REALLY fucking neat designs that are just dying to burn holes in my wallet.
>their actual fanbase- autistic teenager NEETs
eeeh, not so sure you're right
That was pretty much true of people exhibiting at Brickfair, but there were a lot of kids who were interested in the Bionicle section (and awed by the then-new Ekimu and Kulta which several people bought and were fiddling with).
There was just one furry, some fat girl and her equally fat boyfriend, both BZP I think.
It's sad... if you spend any time with people from other lego subgroups, you learn that Bionicle is basically the basement dwelling loser of the lego community.
yeah, they've refrained from using regulaf purple in the past because it's a difficult color to keep consistant. I have a bunch of parts from the Night Bus set (purple triple decker Harry Potter bus) that are noticably slightly different despite all of them supposedly being the same color.
>tfw I am top tier qt3.14 according to the ladies
>tfw they say I'm pretty
>tfw
brother ruined my bionicle collection because mother chose to give him everything
Now I just have 2015 Tahu, and a bunch of Transformers.
why do all the toa bar onewa have those fucking swords? the weapon design is fucking weak this time round. the 2015 toa weapons were pretty weak (tahu & kopaka/gali & lewa having the same weapons) but it seems that little to no thought was put into the weapons this time, which is a shame cause the new shoulder movability is great
>mfw no-one will acknowledge that Closer to the Truth is the GOAT G1 Bionicle track
I think the budget for new parts is pretty limited for contraction because it is such a niche theme, even moreso for Bionicle since it doesn't have the popular license that star wars does. Last year wave one we got one single new armor piece and four new weapon pieces. This time around we get one new weapon piece and three new armor pieces + one returning one. But also a few additional new parts compared to last year if one considers the torso construction and the villain this go around having a mask. It's likely that they just didn't have the ability to create a bunch of new weapon molds for this year and do what they wanted with the armor pieces, so they just tried to use the same piece in different ways, since if they reused last year's weapons that figure might seem like not as big of a deal to some people.
Honestly I feel like while I would have rather had a bunch of new weapon molds, their reuse of this part works out fairly well with Kopaka, Tahu, and Lewa who use it in decent enough ways for it to feel okay, but Gali and Pohatu's use of it is what really makes the weapons feel like this this time around, because they use it in exactly the same way, but then cover it with useless bling, making the reuse of one pieces as weapons across the line seem even worse. I feel like if they had given Pohatu a flail exclusively instead of a spear with flail keychain, and if they had reworked Gali's spear to look a little more unique, then the reuse of the single part would seem a lot less awful.
Yeah, I tried to find a way to make Luke's head SOMEWHAT good looking - turns out the secret is to hide most of it...
Also, just came back from buying the entire Uniter series (they're out in German Lego-shops Deutsch-bros), finished building Ketar and Pohatu and tried a bunch of minor but important modifications:
1) switch the forearm and thigh shells - makes the color-flow look better
2) put the ankle friction extenders on the knees
- makes the legs look less shit
3) DON'T FUCKING PUT KETAR'S LEGS LIKE IN THE INSTRUCTIONS, JESUS CHRIST! - instead, move them so they look like some animu shoulder and skirt armor and imagine the crystal-swords are shoulder-mounted cannons
WHAM - instant awesome Pohatu!
>Piece Out - Bionicle Moccists
those guys may have there shit together in, public, but I've seen that they can get all dramatic on skype.(it's rare, but if you want to see it, gimme your skype name and I'll invite you to it) I'm not in their main skype group, but their sub-chat group thing can get pretty crazy. Just remember, you need to be patient.
>God Tier: Umarak, Kopaka, Pohatu
>Good Tier: Onua, Tahu, Lewa
>Bad Tier: Gali
>God Tier: Umarak, Onua, Lewa
>Good Tier: Tahu, Gali
>Bad Tier: Kopaka, Pohatu
Kopaka and Pohatu are easily fixed by swapping out a couple of shells - but Gali needs her build to be changed to look good
Lego sells products to the whole world. Kids not playing with toys/being distracted by electronics is probably just a problem in the United States. Lego wont change their product lines because of one country.
Star Wars made them bleed money due to the licensing costs vs their personal profit at the time.
the reason why G1 got so much effort and marketing was because it was a 'do or die', basically.
I'd say the lego movie with great characters such as benny, wydlyfire, batman and emmet is what makes lego great and helped lego a lot more. the movie even said bionicle wasn't even important and not even a character in the movie when batman shows up in the classic millenium falcon lego loves to keep rereleasing just because of how great a build it is
>Gali needs her build to be changed to look good
She looks pretty good with this configuration here since it gives her some wider thighs and somewhat better proportions.
The Vorox armor also doesn't really interfere with the shooters when united.
And yeah, screw the gold masks.
The united models look way better with the normal ones.
I feel like an impotent manchild when attempting to make new MOCs. Maybe it's just that I only have pieces from the early 2015 sets.
do you recommend I buy sets or just parts? I don't know where to begin, I was just going to keep buying some of the new Bionicle stuff.
If you do end up getting some Hero Factory sets, here's what I recommend:
You have to at least get one 2.0 or 3.0 hero, just to see how much better the designers are today.
Most of breakout was pretty solid.
Invasion from Below is good to get from if just because it had access to all the pieces the first Bionicle wave didn't introduce, so stuff like the 3 long liftarm with the ball joint, the beast feet, the friction extenders, and other pieces. Evo XL in particular is worth it just for the fun build and plethora of parts.
Hey, remade the six 2016 Toa only using pieces from the reboot waves with their respective colors, Gali needs to be redone I think.
Only Kopaka and Onua look good.
The others seem like part clusterfucks, lots of cool ideas that interfered with each other. This is really apparent on Pohtu and Tahu. Lewa is almost good, but the yellow looks really awkward.
You're trying to merge the two waves, which I appreciate; I'm gonna have a go at it myself when my S@H order arrives. But I think using the old wave pieces to refine the Uniters by filling in their gaps (like Uniter Tahu's upper leg issue) is going to be a more successful endeavor than slapping the two sets together and hoping for the best.
I'd really double down on color scheme unification and keeping their defining characteristics to one or two things. Like on Pohatu, you're going for the feet thing, but those looks like massive claws rather than kicking guards like G1 pohatu.
And hey, that's alright. At least you know that when you're having more fun, it's because you're getting better results. I love Onua's gangliness and squating legs that result from so much bulk. Kopaka looks like a great unification of old and new design. Going over them again, I actually do like what you've done with Tahu mostly, but something about the legs looks off. I can't say what precisely though.
I will do better if it wasn't a white character on a white background.
So /biog/ I bought the first order stormtrooper today and now I'm hesitating to build it because I'm afraid of what the back will look like, is Phasma worth the 5 extra dollars for the cape and more color?
Here's my attempt at an older, less athletic Lewa. I'm still pretty new at this, but I think it turned out alright.
"4. FREE THE BAND"
"Seeing yourself getting closer and closer to your objective... it fills you with determination"
"I find your lack of gold disturbing"
"I miss the bent neck"
Those have to be the best lines yet.
Love those nostalgic callbacks
I made a bigger Jaller. I have no idea where all my parts are, most of what I have is inika and mahri.
had fun with the 2015 sets, hopefully 2016's sets will be just as fun
>mfw I realise that 2016 is using everything Lego learned from 2014 Hero Factory
>sets are beasts and humanoid heroes
>technic integration and waist swivel from Evo XL
>unite function from Splitter Beast and Combat Machine
>maybe how to build a centaur from Queen Beast and Combat Machine...?
Guys, how do you deal with those not-good
shit
transitions from waist to thighs in most of, if not all, recent CCBS sets?
As far as i remember, only Vader and Grievous had at least something different than picrelated, while other sets had this shit.
Wouldn't it be nice if parts like these were official?
oh yeah, it's almost certain at this point hero factory was what they used to experiment with new ideas, both good and bad, it's not surprising that G2 bionicle is such a ramp up in quality from HF, set-wise. It was probably an easy process to learn from too, "which sets sold most, and what do they have in common?"
I love buying stuff in person just for the excitement of bringing it home. Though the people at the Lego store always seem to give me a weird look when I purchase Bionicle sets for whatever reason (I swear it's not because I look creepy or anything), which makes it always a bit uncomfortable, but the satisfaction of buying it in person more than makes up for that.
not me, but there's a guy on reddit who made a makuta moc similar
I haven't found a store with the full 2016 line yet. Just a TRU with four creatures, and a Target with Tahu, Onua, and Kopaka. Why stock only some of it when all the shelves are still bare from December?
It's really hard to say, It seems like an obvious character to include as a set, but with the mask of control already out in Umarak, and whatever Makuta set we do get likely to be a powered up form wearing the MoUP, really hard to imagine how they would fit a mask maker Makuta set into the line.
>lways seem to give me a weird look when I purchase Bionicle
This. I picked up Tahu at my local Target. I'm too young to be a parent, so they don't automatically assume it's for a kid. The guy looked at me like I was a pedo until he saw the 50 cent birthday card I put with it. Works every time.
>50 cent birthday card
Gonna be perfectly honest, my first thought was a birthday card with 50 cent on it.
Oh god you just reminded me of when I was 13-16.
I was rather dead than be caught buying Bonkle, and it was always a fucking adventure to go through the store. To make sure no one saw me, to go to shortest line and leave the store in a fucking hurry. Hell, this is the main reason I have like 1 Glatorian.
Nowadays I just couldn't care less if someone sees me buying Lego. I'm 22, no one really cares what I buy and get at the store
Lego Store Worker in Seattle Area. If you feel wigged out about buying bionicle at our store, there are these two guys who work stock who would talk non-stop about how hot Wild Style was in the Lego Move. You have NOTHING to worry about.
Decided to make the Scorpio+MMvSG combiner on a whim, wanted to keep Ekimu built so ended up sacrificing Skull Basher and Skull Warrior for parts in more sensible and afterwards decided to change up the head, arms, and weapon to be a bit more like standard Kulta. Hopefully now he will feel a little less inferior when posed beside Umarak.

Not to mention the hundreds of full grown men who come in with their MOM, and have her buy them sets. You have nothing to worry about.

So has anyone made a moc using the gearbox, new hip swivel chest piece, and a combiner function yet?
Also is there anyway to make Onua and Terak look good? My Lego Store only had Pohatu, Gali, Onua, their accompanying beast and Umarak. So I picked up them all but Gali for the moment. They look great separate, but shit together.
Piece of unification and gearbox are mutually exclusive because they take up the same space on the back.
As for gearbox and hip, it's possible but I'm not sure how clean because I don't own any yet.
It's theoretically possible, but there's not really any reason as far as "fixing" the sets goes.
All that Lewa '16 needs is the 6m arm piece in place of the 5m one and his "corgi-arm syndrome" is cured.
ILSE's site just says January, and the two other places that have listed them thus far still haven't got them in stock.
Kocka says they may get new stuff later this month and in March, but no word on Bionicle specifically.
I won't bother checking actual stores, their prices are too steep.
Not gonna lie, new Tahu with Ikir and their combo form looks divine as all fuck. 10/10
2016 regular tahu without Ikir is eh, 7/10. desu it's an issue with all the 2016 bonkles sets; stand-alone they look skinny as shit.
but when you put the creature combo form on, they look fantastic
I have a strong urge to dump a bunch of money on more bonkles. I don't know if it'll be worth it.
Anyone in the Toronto area found any 2016 sets yet? last time I checked was several days ago and it's a six hour round trip for me so if I'm going to go out and grab some I would like to be sure that I am not wasting my time.
I kinda disagree a bit, though I found the 2015 Toa far too bulky in general. Like, even looking at your picture reminds me of how round, fat, and just overall awkward Tahu 2015 looked . Plus the open balljoints are still a bit of an eyesore. 2016 is visually a bit busy and kind of gold, but I find his overall look to be better. Just my opinion.
2016 set is absolutely more visually striking than the 2015 set. I just feel the area around their hips is way too unprotected (literally nothing covering hips/groin) but other than that area, 2016 set is great. You're right about the balljoint though. No idea why they did that.
Good job on by the LEGO team. Probably one of the best Bonkle sets yet in my opinion
Now we just have to hope the second wave isn't as phoned in as last years. The fact that we are only getting three 'new characters' and they are all $15 like the skull villains is worrying, but then again this year seems to not be shy about the technic, and you can make pretty impressive sets for a lower price with technic (see Akida).
The promise of a bigger, better Umarak is also something to be cautiously optimistic about.
I've got Umarak ordered, and really want to get Tahu, Lewa, and their creatures. I still haven't gotten any summer 2015 sets, but the only one I want is Mask Maker. It'll be worth it if I can make decent MOCs.
Oh, shit, well, if you're not collecting them all and you're still working your way through summer 2015, I'll give you my personal summary of the Skullsquad.
Good, solid, simple asymmetrical build of a terminator. Blue and orange work surprisingly well together. Kopaka's mask is 10/10 coloring. Bow is cool, but if you've got Umarak and the Jungle Protector, you already know if you like bows or not. New pieces are great, but not plentiful. I don't dislike him, but he's the least unique by far.
I wish the arm thing had more friction. He're ally cool, with great colors, but bulky if you're worried about shelf space. He's great, but leaves something wanting. At least he has technic innovation, and that puts him above the others. He's great for posing and play, if you're only gonna get one, I'd go with Basher. Also, trans purp-gold mask is amazing.
If you can get over the legs, the build is great. The tail is okay... but the claws reach farther so it's practically useless. The colors clash something awful. At least he's got a solid part count and lots of technic. I like him better than Slicer, but not by much. Only worth it if you need shells in the trans lime yellow and some technic goodies. Pohatu's mask a shit.
I thought he would be my favorite.
He was my least. The 4 arms are super cool, but there's nothing to bulk him up, nothing to make him standout other than those very simple arms. Spindly works sometimes, but it was overdone here. Lewa's mask is okay, the green is better than yellow-lime when mixed with gold. Makes a huge difference.
Grinder was top dog until Umarak, but I always felt Grinder suffered the same problem as Basher where his bulk looked great, so those super skinny skelly sections looked bery awkward. Ekimu is a 10/10 though, and the MoC is worth the price of admission.
Working on a slight Gali rebuild, got any opinions on which arm is better?
Over the 9 months I've worked there, I've seen close to 75 adult men come in with these little old ladies. And it doesn't look like a guy showing his mother what her grand kids want. They look like that TJ omega dude. The old lady pays and they walk out. Friends I work with have told me that they see this ALL the time. It was my first Christmas rush, and I saw close to 30 guys like that come in. And if they aren't with a MUCH older lady, you KNOW they are using their "good boy points."
Question: How viable is putting pic related on the end of the ratcheting joints to angle the orange pieces downwards?
MMvSG is necessary if just for Ekimu and the Mask of Creation.
Plus, Kulta can be bulked up a fair bit if combined with LoSS, which fixes his problems and gets rid of Buckley to boot. If you care for such things he also transforms, though I prefer to just use him as the mighty Skull Grinder.
I meant right on the picture, not her right arm, my bad.
I think the trans works better under the shoulder-pad as it means each part has some solid colour and the trans sorta bridges the two, like using oranges inbetween reds and yellows
Picked up Finn today, and he's a LOT better than I thought. Cool gun, I like that they actually built a jacket for him, and his black people parts are gonna be great for my RoboTupac moc.
X and Y were apparently switched in the first book too, since they have never been used in words officially, it is 100% possible that the X and Y actually look like that, and simply look like they should be switched.
>Trying to rework my Chriox
>Can't think of any ways to make a custombuilt torso
>Can't think of any ways to rework the arms, or makes the legs more digitgrade
Wake me up from this hell. Also post inspiration for MOCing.
All six protectors look great together.
Speaking of, has anyone else modded their Protectors based off of little details from the books and whatnot? I changed up Kivoda's water turbines because the book said 'back-mounted', but I was wondering if anyone was gonna change Vizuna's sensor tails to be an actual tail.
Finally found a decent solution for Lewa's upper arms since they were one module too short and the actual shoulder articulation wasn't the best. The old shoulders are now just shoulder pads and the arms are directly attached to the skeleton using hordika necks. the upper arms are naked bones since the original had thin arms and they looked pretty much like that. What do you think, /biog/ ?
Doesnt look half bad, though a tiny shell on the upper arms might be nice. Personally with Lewa Uniter mods I think it would be cooler to find a way to attach the upper arms via ball joint to the vorox armor piece, so that he can have shoulder articulation as well as upper arm, lower arm, and hand articulation.
Really like the look of that, can't stand the turbines on the arms personally, but live with it due to my lack of extra trans blue shells.
Problem with Vizuna's sensor tails is that they are portrayed differently everywhere, in the books it's described as an actual tail, in the graphic novel they are on his arms, so changing it up isn't too viable when we dont actually know what the actual position is.
I wan't to see someone make a qt Harvali MOC though, even if we lack any masks that are good to use on standard villagers.
Only named villagers in the books are Bingzak and Harvali, both jungle, Bingzak is just a random kid Nilkuu saves, and Harvali is a spear-wielding archaeologist who was trapped underground for a year before helping out the protectors in the second book.
>can't stand the turbines on the arms personally, but live with it due to my lack of extra trans blue shells.
Actually, it uses the same 4 trans blue shells the original set came with, with the one under the armor-addon on the torso being a 4m black shell. Might replace it with a 4m med. azure shell from Uniter Gali, though.
>Unlike Kivoda's turbine thingies, they don't really get in the way.
I'll probably stick with the feet sensors, then.
I know I am a bit slow here, but is there some meme about orange gali made outside of /biog/? Or is the whole gali orange thing is from that one thread where an anon asked how we were going to fix gali and ten people replied with 'more orange'?
Yeah, I found this image in Reddit too, there are a little more.
>Terak is supposed to be a Lizard/Ape
I absolutely cannot see the connections to either of those things but that does make Melum's hulk smash feature fucking hilarious.
Here's an image for the next thread btw.
Sweet mother of fuck I'd kill for a CCBS Ludwig.
I'm trying to figure out making bootleg masks (rubber mold + resin cast) and I keep fucking it up
shit's goddamn expensive for what it is and I don't have a job
Hey /biog/, decided to build a guy for my hover-board I made, not sure if his lower legs are missing something or not, I put one of Pohatu's crystal armor on it to compare.
So I'm thinking of getting a new set. I mainly want sets that I can use to improve Kopaka (so basically any white/ice set) but I found a grievous at walmart. Is grievous good for parts? So far the only sets I have are Kopaka, protector of ice, and skull warrior. Unfortunately I saw no uniters at walmart so that's why I'm thinking about geting grievous. When do uniters hit the stores?
anyone interested in old sets? I'll sell pretty cheap, just need to clear out some space and pay some bills.

Probably like five a pop, some a bit higher if they have canisters and stuff like that. Shipping aswell obviously. I'd do 100 for the entire lot. If you buy two or more i'll throw in a set that is missing something (a mask or some shit) anyways, just trying to clear these out. if you got any interest in any of this shoot me an email. gladly will take pics.
Hey /biog/, got a side-by-side of both of Lewa's (canon) "final forms" for ya candy.
Can't give you props on pic quality, but help my fuck if that doesn't illustrate how much more "Bionicle" the 2016 sets are in comparison to the 2015 ones.
Like, fuck, the Masters actually do look like HF reboots next to the Uniters.
I just went through my Kanoka disks and I found two with the same code, but one is rather green, one is rather blue. Does anyone know why?
Upon
channeling my childhood feelings for bionicles,
I've decided that I'm going to get the Toa Inika and the Piraka.
Anyone know what's the easiest way to get them without selling a kidney?
