Hey /biog/, have you ever discovered an emergent properties of your particular building style that you didn't expect?

I myself have come to discover I have a... height. I'm not sure how nor why, but all my main builds, no matter how different their construction, all seem to creep closer to each other's height the closer they are to completion. This would not be remarkable were they traditional sizes, but I'm fairly confident in the fact that my main builds are all unnaturally large compared to most, and all somehow the same height. It's like my building style has a height cap.
Also all my legs all look flat as fuck.

How about you guys? Any unintentional trends popping up in your mocs?

>>
For anyone with the graphic novel and chapter books, do they share the same plot or are they different? I'd rather get the graphic novel if they're the same but the chapter books if they're different, just because of personal lore conveyance preference.
>>
>>5365548
G2 I mean
>>
>>5365548
Book 1 and the graphic novel are sorta similar, but the graphic novel goes a bit more indepth with some of the Toa's adventures to the golden mask, but covers slightly different story material overall (same general events, from different points of view than the book), the second book is completely different and it's own story.
>>
What's thhe plot of Revenge of the Skull Spiders? Does LoSS return?
>>
>>5365593
Here's a full plot synopsis I guess
>Vizuna watches Toa beat LoSS, then meets up with the other protectors
>They decide they are going to go into the city and help the Toa since dangerous monsters may exist inside the city
>Onua breaks the bridge with his giant earthquake
>Vizuna points out a second, unofficial bridge made by his archaeologist friend Harvali a year or so ago
>They go across that and then end up blowing it up to prevent the skull spiders from chasing them.
>Skull spiders find the unconscious body of LoSS and take him back to their lair (some big cave around the old city's reservoir) to let him recover
>Protectors walk around the caves beneath the city, Korgot helping with her drill, discover a few ruins that go over some lore stuff about Ekimu
>Suddenly they meat Harvali who has been living underground for over a year after trapping herself in there
>They are attacked by a giant snake (8 times the size of a protector) controlled by a skull spider, but they beat it and it befriends Nilkuu
>they all ride the Snake to LoSS's lair in order to make sure he is defeated
>find LoSS healing in a cocoon surrounded by over a thousand skull spiders
>blast open a hole letting tons of water in flooding out a lot of spiders while LoSS starts to wake up
>They start riding the snake around the cave blasting everything with their weapons causing the ceiling to collapse, crushing the remaining Skull Spiders and Loss
>Go to surface and learn Ekimu has risen and that their is a big battle happening at the once-sealed forge of the mask makers
>arrive to see the Toa and Skull Grinder unconscious while Ekimu is reforging their masks, Harvali faints in excitement
>They drag the unconscious Skull Grinder and Skull Basher into vaults, saying that they wont be able to be a threat anymore without their masks
>Ekimu tells them that evil is still out there and that evil is still out there and then they get the villagers to return to the city after thousands of years.
>>
>>5365619
>Protectors walk around the caves beneath the city, Korgot helping with her drill, discover a few ruins that go over some lore stuff about Ekimu

So what was written there?
>>
>>5365631
It was mostly just stuff about how the whole prophecy came to pass. During the "Festival of Masks" the Ekimu sights the legendary creatures, and takes their appearance as an omen. In response, he puts on the mask of time and uses it to see into the future and see the great cataclysm that destroyed / changed the islands geography and created the six regions, and knowing this event would come to pass he talks the protectors about how they will need to summon the six Toa and what have you.
>>
>>5365619
>Protectors riding around on a giant snake blasting skull spiders.

>>
>>5365665
I haven't checked it, but I assume that /biog/'s MOCs are better.
>>
>>5365543
Nah, I have some intentional trends, though. Use of different template-ish bodies at different sizes, but they always come out unique
>>
>>5365543
Wow these are a mess
>>
>>5365619
Honestly the fact that the islanders have all (or at least mostly) returned to the ancient city makes up for the fact that the villages were so undeveloped I feel, as we got a solid idea of what the city is like and that's where the villagers are going to be hanging out now, presumably for the rest of the story.

You could probably use this black technic they use on the bows or for PoJ and Skull Warrior and attach them to the sides of the angled technic connectors that hold onto his silver collar.
>>
Book 2 is good and all but we also got the description for the next graphic novel today:

>On the mythical island of Okoto, six heroes have united to protect the last of their tribes. Once, peace ruled the six divided regions and their people--that is, until a battle erupted between two mask makers. As Makuta sought to control the ultimate power, only his brother, Ekimu, could stop him. Join Tahu, Kopaku, Onua, Gali, Lewa, and Pohatu as they learn about the origin of their masks and where their elemental powers come from.

The last part in particular is pretty interesting to me.
>>
>>5365726
Eh, I'm just learning the ropes, although I will say these pics do not give them justice. Currently my biggest problem is getting legs to not look like solid slabs while still being able to support the weight of my builds, of which I think only Teridax and a couple others successfully manage.
>>
>>5365807
Sounds like there will be some interesting flashbacks in this one, but it'll obviously need some kind of present-time plot as well so Lego can shill the current wave. Unless the summer story is actually set in the past, but even then the book is a few months early.
>>
>>5364667
That be some interesting moob grabbing.

I don't get why people buy Pohatu, despite hating the set so much.

They reason I'm getting him is because I have a Collector's obligation.
>>

>>

I honestly don't find vanilla out of the box Pohatu that bad, the lower arm shells were the only part that bothered me.

Ketar is a bit worse but can easily be fixed by changing up the tail placement.
>>
>>5366090
That's basically why I got him. I thought the other five looked pretty good so I picked them up and I figured I might as well go for pohatu too. I don't know why, but pohatu's gimmick seems to be that all of his sets are really basic and really shit. It sucks, because the other 5 are pretty great.

I dont think anyone buys these, but this is the new wave of Legos we have at Toysrus.

>any of them worth buying?
>>
>>5366146
I personally feel like they have a certain aesthetic they try to go with on Pohatu that kinda looks like shit as we cannot tell if things are done intentionally or are just bad design. Personally my problems with Pohatu arent nearly as big as other people's, as I feel he looks a lot better in person than in promo material (since the trans-neon green matches the crystal armor much better in person), but I do hate his weapon alongside Galis, Gali has a pointless keychain and spinner on hers that dont make any sense, and Pohatu has a random rock on the end of his spear.

Had they just given Gali a spear and perhaps re purposed Pohatu's weapon entirely as a Ball and chain or a Flail, it would have been a lot better.
>>

>>
>>5366156
I'll have the Splatoon amiibo and the Stormtrooper. Phasma's cape is too expensive.
>>
>>5366156
The 2016 Star wars contraction sets are pretty shit, Stormtrooper, Phasma, and Ren are serviceable but still underwhelming.

Im still a bit salty that all these star wars figures are showing up in stores but I still can't find any of the new Bionicle sets, especially since this upcoming wave appeals to me more than pretty much any Bionicle wave ever since the original 2001 wave.
>>
>>5366168

>>5366162

So another thing the book confirms about Korgot is that her blaster is mounted on her chest, not really embedded in her torso like on the set. You get this impression from how it is at one point described that she "adjusted her chest-mounted rapid shooter as she moved past Vizuna to enter the cave first." indicating that it is something just sitting on top of her armor or whatever. Minor detail but a detail nontheless.

How do you anons take pics of your mocs? I tried using my smart phone, but I'm always over the image size limit. Is there some trick to making the images smaller?
>>
>>5366984
I take pictures all the time from my smartphone, and as long as I hold my phone correctly (horizontal with the bottom of the phone at my right) the pictures are always upright.

Maybe it has to do with the phone you have? I have an Iphone 5 (gift from my father) and while every image I post from my phone (while browsing here on my phone) has the same name of "image", they all are of reasonable resolution.

Picked up Umarak from TRU in NJ. Looks imposing as hell, kinda got the urge to do some stop-motion.

Mask of Control looks nice, but doesn't appear as "grand" as the MoCreation. They should have Makuta reforge it into a stronger (better looking) version. Idk, maybe MoCreation is in a league if its own.

>>
>>5368203
Mask of Creation was a bigger deal anyway, as Ekimu is the only one who made masks anyone cared about and Makuta always got kind of shafted. He's likely going to be wearing a different mask when we actually do get him in set form in G2, so the Mask of Control is honestly the least important of the 3 legendary masks (though still pretty cool).

Whoa, slow down there. I probably know more lore about old bionicle than you guys.

Not that it fucking matters anymore, its not canon.

And I lass by those new sets over 100 times a day at work, they look like shit. I couldn't even bring myself to buy a Tahu for old times sake.

This, somewhat. The only Toa of Earth I ever like was Nuparu.
>>
wish they bring back the vehicles. I dont care their pricey I just want the wheels. I actually collect around 50 wheels just from the power miner series
>>
>>5368220
Uniter is the Toa's new title, more or less. Like this year they were "Masters," only now since the gimmick is they've got the creatures to bond with, they're "Uniters."
>>
Is there any reason why Umarak has an ad for uxar on his box? I guess they look cool together but I don't see why it makes sense to match him up with anyone.
>>
>>5368220
Basically, the 2015 sets (the ones you probably see) are known as the "Masters" because of their set titles (Tahu Master of Fire for example), they had good builds and all but had a very smooth aesthetic because of the Hero Factory System being used and a lot of people werent sold on that.

The "Uniters" (e.g. Tahu Uniter of Fire) are the 2016 iterations of the Toa that are slowly rolling out in stores in the upcoming few days, they have an aesthetic and building much more similar to G1 (which a lot of people are hating on now for being too "complex", go figure), they are called "Uniters" because of their new gimmick, in which they can combine with the small sets this wave (which are various biomechanical animal-type sets like Pheonix's, Sharks, and Bugs).

>Not that it fucking matters anymore, its not canon.
Possibly, though there is some debate about that, considering G2's mask of time being described as "an upper half of a mask without any records of it's lower half" (im sure you remember the G1 Vahi), and being the catalyst in which summoned the Toa.
>>
>>5368225
Color schemes match more, plus it is Lewa's eternal duty to get fucked over be it infected masks, krana, or whatever.
>>
>>5368220
Your opinion is perfectly justified but I suggest you to grab Umarak.
>>
>>5368203

Grievous is really gappy and can't even stand straight like in the scene where he is about to fight with Obi Wan. Now I paid 35€ and still have to revamp him to make him work. Uniter Gali would be kinda nice, if you have any trouble figuring out how to translate the design of the figure into something that would work well for this sort of thing, I find the Journey to One design is a bit better in that regard.

>>5368260
Box doesnt really much matter since its just a picture, but nonetheless. Out of Curiosity, what was your favorite set out of the original line?
>>
>>5368272
I just bought him for parts, since I skipped all of Hero Factory and wanted some of the longer sized bone pieces and some of the double socket pieces with ball in the middle (plus some (very large) tan shells), the protip for CCBS is to build with technic like you would in G1 and use the standard bone pieces for stuff like thinner limbs or tails, and use the shells as gap-fillers. Some CCBS purist MOCs and stuff can still look good I find, you just have to get really creative with how you attach things since everything is based on ball joints.

Lewa/Tahu

>>
>>5368276
Huh, Uniter Pohatu looks really good in this compared to his set, I wonder what the set looks like if you give it two tan vorox shoulders (though that requires getting two Ketar sets) and black lower arm bones.

I might leave the 15$ Toa standlone, and the 20$ Toa united for space reasons. Forgot to pick up another shelf.

I'm just displaying them all separate, maybe use strings or something to give Uxar and Ikir flying poses. I'm freeing up space by taking apart the Master's, Skull Scorpio, Skull Slicer, and Skull Warrior and giving them all a G2 parts bin since they're part in the story is done whereas the other 2015 sets technically have the possibility to be relevant in the story in the future.

And still it is sideways.

I feel like this is the best united mode just because of how Intimidating it makes the already Intimidating Umarak look. How does it hold up in person?

I suppose that's true, especially in the later years of G1 where arms were the same length as the legs if not longer, making them leagues larger than the torso. Technically the proportions on the newer sets (not lewa 2015 of course his arms were fucklong for some reason) are more humanlike in terms of proportions, but I guess it's not for everyone.

I like Ekimu the way he is and trans orange was the best colour in that wave (maybe light blue or purple too, but Kulta wouldn't look as evil with those colours)
>>
>>5368484
Most of my guys usually have a gimmick in some form, whether it be transformations, working gears or modular aspects.
On the legs thing, I got a big guy who's supposed to be a giant spooky ice skeleton, so his upper legs are pretty thin, but support his weight just fine. That ok?
>>
>>5368452
Pro-tip: The best thing to make a MOC good is to make sure it has very defined characteristics, a lot of less memorable MOCs may be large, or well built, or whatever, but the actual visible features arent really anything and it just looks like a humanoid made of parts.

Not sure if you get what I mean here, but just really try to focus on the shape of the MOC and how distinct it's look is, that's a lot more important than the size.
>>
>>5368452
Do:
1: Familiarize yourself with color theory.
2: Properly flesh out the limbs and torso
3: Try and innovate, use other peoples builds as a launching pad to inspire your own work
4: Try your hardest to make your moc interesting, both visually and narratively(assuming you're giving them a backstory)
Don't:
1: Don't make a fuckhuge moc just for the sake of it. Nobody likes a clusterfuck
2: Don't make a male moc, slap nuva tits on it then call it female.
3: DON'T MAKE A FUCKING RED AND BLACK MOC edgelords will be laughed out of town
4: Cry like a bitch when/if people criticize your work. Use it to improve.

Any criticisms could you give to some of my work? It's the shitty pair of images near the top. Currently they all fit the shape I wanted them to fit, save the legs on the brown guy, which have since posting been modified slightly, but I still get the feeling they could be better than they are.
I'm also colorblind, and may not be aware if I've got wrong colors on some of my guys. There was actually a time when I was convinced a green part was gunmetal, so if you spot any off colors, that'd be appreciated.

Assuming you are talking about >>5365543

The chief problem with that size is that it makes the heads look very small. If you were using custom heads the proportions would be better, but as they are the heads look kind of tiny. They are different enough that I will be looking at them individually:

>Purple and black one
Body seems to stick out a bit too far forward and is a bit bulky for the spindly legs, tread feet are fine but the yellow breaks up the color scheme a lot.
>Red and Gold
Honestly not that bad, except the head looks too small, and the lower arms look kinda off.
>Blue and Gold
too thin in the middle of the torso, tail looks kinda funky, random bright bright green looks out of place
>Tan and silver/brown
Limbs all kinda fucked up looking and cant tell why (punching function? if so the technic sticking out as far as the hands looks off), head looks teeny tiny,
>Blue and white
Mask choice seems a bit odd, hard to tell what the problem with this one is, just looks off
>Teridax-looking one
This one looks good

Overall try and focus on balanced color distribution I guess.Your color schemes are fine, but the distribution of colors is a bit iffy. Also try to make the various structures of the MOCs flow better together, these arent awful, they are just a bit messy.
>>
>>5368575
as long as you're critiquing MOCs, would you mind giving input on mine? Moreso on the Pohatu than the Kulta since the latter is similar to the existing combiner with substitutions for the skull scorpio parts.
>>5367003
>>5367009
>>5367047
>>
>>5368595
Assymetric legs do look kinda awful, I know you are aware of this but you should still probably find a better solution. The entire lack of armor on the upper arm looks a little off, and protector chest's just don't work as foot add-ons for Pohatu as much as people would like them too.
>>
>>5368575
The purple one's body sticks out because it hides a gear function, a chest cannon, AND a pair of bear-clawed tentacles.

The red/gold and the brown/tan/silver one are supposed to be similar, each wearing a different generation's pohatu's mask for a thematic thing. The red/gold one is supposed to be an agori that had been augmented to trick a toa stone into believing it was a matoran, resulting in a large mutated toa, whereas the brown one is an unnaturally intelligent zesk from the same universe piloting a mech made out of the remains of several dead-end universes' pohatus. The arms on the brown do have a punch function, with flip-out pohatu-nuva claws, but I do agree the technic could stand to be pushed back a bit. The red guy's lower arms were a hassle, but they're too the point I'm happy with them, though I do agree they seem unconventional, using actual arm pieces as the armor and technic as the arm itself.

Blue/gold's already gotten a chest thickening since, not much though, as he's supposed to be sleek and long, I cannot see where the bright green is, I may be mistaking it for gold, can you tell me where on him you see the green?

The blue/white one is supposed to be giant skeleton Motoro from a dead-end universe, technically its cause, and basically uses his mask as a lich's phylactery. He actually looks kinda spooky with it in the right lighting, the big bug eyes get this intimidating vacant stare that mixes well with his skelly ice-covered body. He has a small group of 5 not pictured skeletal minions.
>>
>>5368607
I was looking for an explanation for the lime green arm/only one arm with a function, and I settled on a punching gimmick with the boomerang parts acting like a booster on the shoulder and lack of armor to show off trans parts to give the arm an "energized" look.
>>
>>5368617
>>5368575
additionally, for the purple one, I only have one set of yellow treads and, though you cannot see it in the picture, one set of red treads. Had I the option of other colors they would be different, but I gotta make do with what I got for what I want, y'know?
>>
>>5368204
>the 2016 sets look similar to the G1 sets
Now there's Technic, and then there is Bayformers levels of clusterfuck. G1 never was that smooth but it wasn't overly detailed as the 2016 sets are. Sure, they threw in a bunch of pistons, but they weren't the 2016 chests.
>>
>>5368627
>>5368617
You could try putting some gears or technic wheels or something over them to cover most of the yellow/red then? might at least make it stand out less.

When giving MOCs functions (which is cool and fun), still do try to balance it with form, the smaller area you can fit the mechanism of a function into the better (like with the arms on the brown one).
>>
>>5368638
2016 chests are a bit overboard with the five side by side pistons on each side yeah, but not nearly as bad as people say they are. I'm more talking about the complaints that things like the so called "piece of unity" is too complex and what not. Either way the aesthetic is closer to G1 than 2015, though not the exact same thing ('piece of unity' is pretty damn close though)
>>
>>5368639
I will for sure try to cover them with gears, though I will say in regards to the chest you are actually seeing it at its most compact form, it is extremely dense and is extremely heavy for its size, there is almost no unused space within. I might, instead, make the arms and legs thicker instead to balance out the thickness of the body, though this may prove to be a challenge with the legs, as they are designed to support his tank alt-mode. Yes, he transforms too. He's kinda gimmick-city to represent his crazy survivalist Burt Gummer-like persona, using his gravity powers and mask of sonar to keep control of his surroundings because the fucker's completly off his rocker and paranoid.
>>
>>5368662
Honestly I think the biggest problem with the body isnt the bulk on its own, but rather how far forward it looks compared to the head, if there was any way to bring the head a module or two forward without effecting the function or look too much, it would probably be a good improvement.
>>
>>5368666
huh, really? I actually set the head further back than in previous builds because I thought it didn't sit well being so far forward compared to the lower pair of arms, and the mouthguard armor piece helped cover the part of the cannon sticking out the top. Maybe I'll try extending the neck and post that, to see if it looks like an improvement?

>>
>>5368716
aight, fair enough.
Will still up the bulk on the arms and legs with maybe another Onua 16 or two, because they look spindly and give away the gimmick.
>>5368721
that's as far forward/down the head in that state can look, as it collides with the arm that both it and the armor are connected to otherwise. The arms cannot go higher, as that space is where the upper pair of arms is stored for his goro-esk unfurled mode. His shoulderpads with the guns are actually the hands to that mode, as seen by the folded inwards claws.

Anywho, thanks for the feedback guys. Still curious as to the location of the bright green on my blue and gold guy, because my fucking eyes are shit and can't into that color apparently, but regardless you've pretty helpful to me.

EVERY set should come with two masks minimum, maybe three. The Creatures should've come with solid color versions of the Uniters masks as well as a recolored protector mask, while Ekimu/Kulta could have come with Tahu and Gali's 'corrupted' masks as Ekimu's/Makuta's previous work.

Thus is the root of our problem. The kind of thing that was bionicle probably couldn't have worked at any other period of time. The internet wasn't as big of a thing at the time, and toys weren't being quickly replaced with video games and the internet like now. Perhaps G2 of bionicle was doomed to fail by mere happenstance. A story that takes so long to even come out properly can't keep the interest of the ever decreasing attention spans of the masses.
Lego is taking the right route by making a TV show, so that the story isn't released in such scattered quantities, but it may have been too late...

>>5369125

>>

I agree completely.

Some kind of anecdotal "evidence" just for fun:
I have two younger siblings and even though they like Lego and bionicle, they don't have the attention span to learn and create like I did when I was a kid.

they like looking at the bionicle and Lego things I build, but when I try to get them to build with me, they just get frustrated and bored within 5 minutes

When I built, I would get an idea and spend maybe an hour sometimes just trying to figure out how to execute that one specific thing, trying different pieces in different ways. it always felt sooo rewarding when you finally figured it out and it looked good.

Kids now are much more interested in instant gratification. What was seen as creative and fun requires patience and isn't immediate enough for them to take interest. they're able to find equally interesting/"rewarding" things in a quarter of the time. For example: why build Lego when you can build something in minecraft without moving?
Their attitude towards it even seems like they see it as work at times.

It's kind of sad seeing the lack of interest and imagination in their play.
I would just build characters and locations and objects for hours on end, creating my own universe and narratives. They would continue the next day, the next month, who knows.
They were literally the best days of my life and I feel like my younger siblings haven't had much of a childhood at all.
it depresses me. they barely even leave the house. They grew up from toddlers to computer gamers.

I have a twelve year old brother, and I swear the six year gap might as well be sixty years. I would ask for money to buy toys when I was younger, he asks for steam gift cards. I would go outside and play with my toys and take pictures of them, while he never leaves his room. And I'm not sure if his gaming habits have something to do with it or not, but I got so much better grades than he does.
Is there any hope for these kids?

Ultimately I guess it's just a different culture now and they have different interests.

My 10 year old sister is basically turning into everything I hate about kids today. For Christmas she wanted money, and a 15 dollar set of armor you can buy at a minecraft server she goes on. When I was her age, I got thok for Christmas, and I freaked out because I never got new sets as early as the holidays. I treasured that piece of shit.

All she wants to do is become a youtuber (that word hurts to say, let alone "biotuber"). When I was her age, I would make some paint sprite comics and post them to bzpower. I would get hate (because, honestly, they were really bad), and it took me a long time to get over it, since I'm a sensitive person. Hell, it hurts to get hate on videos I make nowadays. But I don't want my 10 year old sister to get anywhere near the cesspool that is youtube (even though all she watches is unfunny minecraft shit, but she begs me all the time to teach her how to make videos. Hell, she bought one of those tube-hero figures with her own money. The TNT guy)

It hurts to say but it actually is difficult for me to be around her right now. She is a mirror. She watches disney channel sit coms, she makes everything dramatic. She watches minecraft videos, she's actually using "kawaii" and "senpai" in her normal vocabulary. I hate to say it, but I feel like I can only really be close to her when she gets out of this phase. It's that off-putting. I'm so thankful that I didn't have that stuff when I was her age. SO thankful.

Anyway so yeah, bionicle and stuff

The worst part of that is knowing that with age she'll become even less of herself.

I didn't really have an ego that wouldn't allow me to be myself at that age.
I would be made fun of for playing bionicles by my friends because everyone is trying to be "mature" at that age, but I saw through it and just continued to do what I like.

The sad part is that most people don't even mature enough to ever truly be themselves, it's especially hard for girls. And as she gets older she may be less and less of herself and more of an insecure characature of her ideal. An empty facade of "normality".
My eldest brother is getting to be that way and it sucks. I know who he is and I just wish he could be vulnerable.

Holy fuck can I agree with this. When I was 10, I still loved getting bionicle and transformers for christmas and my birthday. My Little sister at 10 was asking for an iPhone. For my early years I adored the gifts I got from my family. My little sister will hate it unless it's the newest version. Skip to now, I'm about to go to college. For christmas this year, I got a Mac to use the engineering software on. My little sister was asking for one too. When she saw that I got one and she didn't she was kinda bummed. The next day she came down to my room and she flipped her shit and threw a huge pissy fit about how she never gets what she wants. This is after my parents bought her front row seats to one direction for her birthday. She's a freshman in High school.. I hate kids so much.

Alright, I'll spill, since I'm back at my place. It's me, Chiroxanon. I'm trying to change the arms, being that they're emptier than the Inika torso. Imma be frank here... They suck. You did say you just got them and only spent a few hours on them, and I can understand that the new torsos and shells are a bitch to work with.

Wairuha looks a bit better, but I'm also fond of the look the longer neck + Kopaka's armor shell upside down/behind the neck. Gives him a Templar look in my opinion, like he has chainmail cascading down around his neck.

Overall a solid WIP, but again you're the first person I've seen to have even attempted this, so massive kudos for you.

Book 2, Here's the direct quote:

>And then the Protectors saw the reliefs. The carved pictograms displayed six different creatures configured within a diamond-shaped pattern, a symbolic map of Okoto. Each creature represented an Elemental Creature of the island and were dragon-like versions of existing animals. Melum, the Creature of Ice, seemed like a hybrid of an ape and a rhinoceros. Akida, the Creature of Water, resembled a shark. Uxar, the Creature of Jungle, a dragonfly. Ikir, the Creature of Fire, was some sort of bird of prey. Terak, the Creature of Earth, appeared as an apelike lizard. And Ketar, the Creature of Stone, was a scorpion. Additional pictograms, symbols, and possible letterforms radiated around the ancient map.

>>5369373
Honestly have to say, even though they are smaller, with the exceptions of Onua and Gali, I like the 2016 versions more than the 2015 versions. Their shapes are more detached from the original 01 masks, but the expressions and general vibe I get from the masks somehow remind me of those classic masks more than 2015's did.

I'm almost certain the rhinos, apes, etc. are just rahi like in G1, so it's not really weird. Some sort of dogs from the G2 comics I've seen posted were clearly meant to be made of Bionicle pieces despite not having a set.

I might end up scrapping him and trying again, but focus more on the spikes coming from between the torsos. One thing LoSS has going for him is the abundance of technic, so when he's combined with Kulta there's plenty of room for bulking.

I used to play with outside with toy lightsabers until I got into Bionicle.
After that, I was staying inside playing with bionicles until my parents cut off the lights, and if I was still trying to make something I'd sit in the middle of the floor with a flashlight until I was satisfied (the only time I got caught was at 2 am when I was 9, trying to build a better Toa Jaller).

This. I was 10 in 2006. That year was the peak of Bionicle for me. I spent hours making my own little mutated Voyatoran, traps and monsters made by the Piraka, and both my bedroom and our house's playroom evolved into my own slice of Voya Nui. Literally the best year, and it was the only year I got all the sets.

I made my own worlds and stories. Ones I would come back to after school and build upon. I knew my friends didn't like Bionicle and I understood this and lived the rest of my life alongside my hobby. Hell, I was the kid fixing my brothers broken wrestlers and using Lego to give them robotic fucking limbs so they could keep fighting the good fight. I'd always loved tinkering with shit and while I knew my friends were indifferent I didn't change to fit in. I just left my shit at home.

Meanwhile I've got a little cousin who the only "toys" he's touched are Skylanders, and primarily plays games on his tablet and watches youtube videos. He's 8.

Have you guys been satisfied with masks in G2? As it stands I'm pretty okay with the number of different molds we have, and how there's at least 1 golden version of every mask, I just wish we had mask packs for more recolors and maybe a few more unique molds, because as it stands they're all attached so strongly to each character. The only mask I really hate is Trans Blue Gali just because it exists.

>>
>>5369909
There's only one mould for the Protectors, which is annoying. Tahu and Gali don't have infected masks yet unless you count the translucent versions, one of which is nearly impossible to get currently. Lewa's Master mask is cool, despite it looking nothing like the G1 version. On the other hand, Gali's mask would be better suited to a G2 Matau or something. The Skull Spiders are nice, even if the prongs don't let them pose very well.
>>
>>5369926
Ketar's tail disgusts me. Gali's new weapon is awful and my autism dislikes the asymmetry, but I can fix that. Akida is a mess of Technic, but I like it. It could probably use a Takadox armour piece to cover up that open back. Unfortunately, I'd then have to add a few to Gali and be unable to complete my Takadox/Gadunka MOCs.
>>
>>5369944
Gali's asymmetry is an easy fix, and technic or not, there's nothing not to like about a shark with dual mounted gatling guns.

Green part is supposed to be your piraka arm, since I couldn't find it in LDD.
Something like this might work, i think your best bet would be that CCBS piece, since it would make it easier to attach a hand. But really, I think you're making too much work for yourself, and using that piraka arm isn't worth it, there are likely other simpler builds that will look better. Depends on what you're making this for.

>Indigos Basic Guide to MOCing Part One

A good MOC takes time and a ton of rebuilding. It isnt a one day simple process. Listen to >>5368503 , >>5368498 , and >>5368510. It isn't about size, its about shape and presentation.
So in general:

>DO

-Get a basic Idea for a character. Doodle up some silhouettes, get a feel for the theme and color scheme of your soon to be MOC. Give it personality.

-Find a Mask that isn't immediately associated with another MOC or character, and learn the limitations of colors. Just because it may SEEM like a part exists in a color, does NOT mean it does, I have learned this the hard way too many times.

-Like the others said, familiarize yourself with color theory, it isnt hard. (PROTIP: Red and Blue isnt easy to pull off, just sayin'.)

-Establish a goal, whether it be adding a function, special articulation, 4 arms, pistons, even wings, and fiddle with the idea.

-Be willing to make sacrifices in either your wallet or build. Some parts you may want may be pricey (such as Tohunga parts), either sacrifice the money or work around not having them. Limitations breed ingenuity.

>DONT

-Be afraid of starting over. Starting over isnt a big deal from the first to last build of Tatotoroka, I had created approximately 10 different chest builds, one of which utilized a unique shoulder blade articulation, but I threw it away instead of desperately trying to fit it in,(PROTUIP: Takes pics if you discover a building technique, just in case.) Restarting may make you discover new building styles as you go.

-Make a 1/1 recolor of someone elses MOC, you wont learn anything that way. Mix and mash techniques, but never copy someones MOC, it wont get you anywhere.

-Heresy is almost never a good idea, it works in VERY few cases, and very often its a cheap workaround for something that can be accomplished, just your way of thinking isn't letting you see the solution.

Part 2 No One Asked For

>Aesthetics

If you want a memorable MOC that people will remember you need to have your idea solid and your goals met.

Lemme give you an example:
>GOALS
-Toa of Water
-Male
-Fisherman
-Wears Kakama Nuva
-Double jointed elbows, ability to squat, ab crunch and chest articulation.
-Fishing Pole with gimmick. (Not Pictured)

I met all of these goals, but it required a ridiculous amount of time. I spent around 3 months or so just doodling and gathering his components before I even got his third iteration done.

Problems with attaining my goals were numerous.
-Low Blue and even lower Medium Blue piece count.

-Had no Idea what his trans color should have been, tried Trans Dark-Pink, and Trans Light-Blue, before deciding on Trans Neon-Green.

-Had 3 color schemes before finally being Blue, Med-Blue, and Silver. (Blue and Dark Orange, Blue and Light Bley, and Blue and Lime.)

-I actually gave into tire autsim for a while and fought keeping it in until I realized it hindered poseability, same goes for the shoulder blade gimmick structuring.

-Bricklink was not a help when getting him either, I dropped easily 100 USD in orders to get all his parts, because many were not common, and werent sold together.

In the end though, i was proud of his unique styling, distinct silhouette, poseability, and quirkiness of his mask.

And if anyone wants anymore, just ask.

Always lurkin, never postan,

-Indigo

Tomorrow I'm heading to my local Lego Store and gonna pick up a good chunk of the new sets.

I've decide to just wait on Gali, Lewa, their respective creatures, Ketar, and Ikir. I'll pick the rest up probably best week or by the end of the month.

I also got more shelves to put up so I have to room to display them.

The set has got me so excited!

Kind of torn on the new 2016 set

On one hand, yeah sure new Tahu is ripped as fuck

But on the other, it's like "well what about the old tahu? he's not important anymore?"

Wish there was an option to just get a small baggy that had the parts so I can just strip the old Tahu and just add the new pieces ontop of him, rather than making a brand new Tahu and having 2 of them. which is what I'll probably do, just strip old Tahu and put the new pieces on him. Don't need a 2nd Tahu.

I'm autistic like that

For Chiroxbro.png

>>5369920
>>5370317
well here you go, I put a LOT of thought into it.

1: New arms and Mixel joint hands would allow for larger amounts of articulation, and your new arms have a messy muddled look to them and they kinda lose the sleek and lanky feel your older Chiroxes had.

2. I drew two diagrams for articulation points, I feel you definitely should give Chirox haunches, it adds to the inhuman feel, and that the sets original triple jointed arms had a unique aesthetic tht makes him memorable, try and build off that idea.

3: This arm design would allow his blades to rest in front of his hands for a kind of pterodactyl look.

4: Heres the part youre not going to like. I feel you should abandon the gimmick in favor of chest articulation and detail. You could use exo force arms and the type of piece used for Umaraks horns to create a better ribcage, I also havent exactly been a fan of the fragile lankiness of his midsection, its the only thing that really kills it for me, because I can honestly see youre not a bad or inexperienced builder, and I have to think that was intentional.

If you or anyone else wants help Im always here. Good luck man, cant wait to see the updated version!
