The waist and torso joints are typically connected via ball-joints, so just heat and pop it off (after confirming that they're connected this way), replace plastic with cloth, etc.

The figuarts Vader is quite a bit shorter than you'd like, especially since vader was pretty tall. The mafex is a good height for black series, etc. Both are good. I'm working to get the figuarts one now to go with my figuarts better.

If you like the look of the Figuarts, I think it's something you can overlook pretty easily. Should it be a taller, more imposing figure? Yes, definitely. Does it make Vader look completely off in relation to other Figuarts? Eh, not really.

I realize my comparison photo here ain't the best, with everyone facing a different angle, but it does accurately reflect each figure's relative height. Vader is noticeably taller than the Clone, while being just a smidgen taller than the Roger Roger (note that the droid has his legs the least spread apart out of all three figures due to its design, which does grant him a little bit of additional height). Again, Vader should be taller and larger, but I think he still looks good relative to other Figuarts.

My main issue with Vader is his cape. It looks cool (though it doesn't sit as nicely as I'd like around his neck), but to have absolutely no articulation whatsoever kinda stinks, especially with the cape molded in such a dynamic way. Bandai has done pose-able plastic capes before and since, so it's not like they don't know how to do it.

Ah well, I still like it and can recommend it to people who like the look. Doubly worth it if you can get the 1st release display stand!

I also came to the decision after seeing how "static" the cape was (as in it's always swaying to the left and just looks wrong in neutral poses).

It's definitely possible to get the poses you want from the Clonetrooper but it take a lot of effort getting there.

It's not a bad figure by any means but you get the feeling that Bandai could have done so much more with it if they tried (or at least made it easier to pose).

Just pre ordered the new Premium Color SSJ Vegeta. Missed out on the old one, and honestly from the pics I saw the new one looks better than the original.

I didn't even realize the Clones were considered bad, I love mine. The legs are quite limited in their forward motion due to the design of the thigh armor, and Bandai definitely ought to have added drop-down hip joints to alleviate this. Moving the leg in other directions is fine.

Still, the sculpt and proportions look wonderful to me, and aside from the leg limitations the articulation is solid. If you like Clones I think you'd like the Figuarts.

Yes, in order to get a straight kick you would need to use the thigh twist to get the tip of the thigh armor out of the way. You can kinda get a rider kick pose, but it won't be the greatest rendition.

I too love my clonetroopers, I picked up two and very much like how they look.
It is a shame about the limited articulation in elbows and hip, but I did they did a good job making them look how they were supposed to.

Looking forward to getting my new Stormtroopers in now, even preordered the shock trooper, and will likely be getting the heavy trooper as well

Well, as much as I love the Black Series TIE, I do think the MSRP is too high. I paid $113 + tax for mine and at that price I can wholly recommend picking it up (it's huge and looks totally rad!), but at $170 I would advise against it (when you get right down to it, it's a fairly simplistic toy with no electronics or gimmicks). Definitely try to wait for a sale of some kind before grabbing one.

Me too! I should hopefully be receiving at least one later this week. The FO Troopers look to have none of the articulation troubles of the Clones thanks to their more practical armor designs. A great side benefit of the fact that the FO Trooper armor was actually designed to be worn, whereas every single armored Clone you see in the prequel movies was CG, haha.

That shouldn't have stopped Bandai adjusting the forearm armor just slightly to give the trooper a much improved range of articulation in the elbow, or including the pull down hips they use on other figures.

I don't know if its been mentioned in any of the generals yet, but I was on the sideshow collectors forum and someone mentioned that you could get the clone troopers into the forward leg crouching pose by pulling down on the thigh swivel. Tried it out and it worked fine. I'm assuming that this was intended. Of course, that doesn't help the fact that they can't shoulders their rifles at all, but the extra range in the legs made me so much happier with mine.

There is a bit of play with the drop down thigh swivel on the FO troopers as well, and I find using it helps a lot with the kneeling pose just to add a bit of length and get the knee closer to the ground for stability. You also need to play with the torso a bit more to get it to look right.

I never bought the regular stormtrooper because of the helmet issues, so I'm not sure. Also, pictured is the thigh pulled down on the left. It doesn't look like a huge difference, but on the clone it makes all the difference. On the FO trooper it is so minor as to be almost pointless.

They have that black, padded/cloth/whatever material on their hip (the actual character design. Not the figuarts itself), so it isn't like the armored plating would get shoved up into the pelvis if they designed it right.

Most figures with that drop down leg look kind of stupid anyway, if you're just looking at them dead on, and not in a pose that hides that joint a little bit.

The majority of the Figuarts SW figures that have been released so far are generic, faceless troopers, and masked bad guys.

Maul? I guess. His face looked good, but he was literally an alien guy with black and dark red facepaint and weird colored eyes with horns. So you really just had to transfer that, and not so much get it exactly to the actor's likeness.

So far people have complained about practically all of the heads/faces of the normal looking heads.

so you want the impossible then? You want highly posable but then you want no gaps, you can't have it both ways. if you want a figure of that version of cap with no hip gaps you're gonna have to get the hottoys otherwise you're just gonna have to get past them. It works if the figure has bare legs like kinnikuman because then they can add those ass cheek hip covers to fill in the gap when the hips are moved, with clothed figures there's always a shortcoming some where.

Finally got to try this out today, and anon I could kiss ya! Huge improvement to the hips' range of motion, making crouching poses a snap. Thank you again for the public service announcement.

Enjoying the hell out of the FO Stormtrooper too. Love the gloss painted finish on him, can't wait for my second one to show up. His ankle are rather limited as another anon pointed out though, and he could have used an extra accessory (pistol!). Still, a lovely figure.

Honestly it's pretty simple, at least if you don't care too much for the Black Series figure, itself. I just cut off the scarf and belt and pulled the robe off with some fiddle with the head and putting the arms up and slightly back.

I disconnected him at the waist on the figuarts, obviously, to get everything fitting nice. I trimmed the bottom afterwards with some small scissors, so the robe isn't so big, and I think it turned out pretty good.

I want to take what's left of the BS Kylo I have, now, and make a Knights of Ren custom out of him.

It's pretty clearly exactly the same figure engineering-wise, they just rescultped various parts of the costume and used their new printing tech on the face.

Shame they didn't wait to release the AoU figures until they had this off the ground, but honestly I'm now glad the only one I picked up was Mk 45. Probably going to have to wait until Infinity War to get a good SHF Thor and Hulk though, sadly.

So I just noticed the FO stormtrooper's hips have this weird resistance when you move his legs outwards, almost like something is bending that's not supposed to. Sure enough, if I look at his waist, I can see the black crotchpiece in there actually flexing. How worried should I be here?
