Did you good little boys and girls get anything good this Christmas?
Just ordered this guy. Really excited after watching some reviews.
Let me save dis shit, which godzilla do you guys want neca/monsterarts to tackle most?
My wish list:
They literally can't. Toho only granted them legal rights to do godzilla, I imagine Bandai having a monopoly on most godzilla foes (as in ones that literally they have to give permission to make) doesn't help
In terms of Gojis:
ShinGoji (probably going to happen)
OG Mechagodzilla (does he count?)
In terms of not Gojis (Toho, please just give them the licenses):
Can anybody tell me what the best home video releases of Godzilla vs. Megalon and Destroy All Monsters are?
From what I understand, Megalon had a special commentary track with Ed Godzeiwasiaskhfdihdig and some other dude that Media Blasters accidentally(?) distributed, and DAM blu-rays have something special about them that Toho never actually approved.
Can somebody elaborate?
>The story goes that some of megalon do and don't because toho didn't nessesarily approve of them
I thought it was that some copies of Destroy All Monsters had special production photos in the extras that Toho didn't approve, and Media Blasters never paid the Megalon commentators for their commentary track (but forgot to take it out and in the first production runs)
Man that company is kind of a mess.
>saw a pic of the manga ultraman figure
>automatically assumed it was a giant mech made to look like the original UltraMan
>"Hooolly shit! That looks so cool, I gotta pose that with my giant mechs and kaijus"
>later ind out it's basically just an iron man suit worn by a high school kid
The chogokin Mechagodzilla 74/75 is pretty much the definitive 70s MG outside of the 2 foot tall remote control expencive af thing. For cheaper bandai's, bandai creation made one
>Saw mechani kong, megalon, and anguirus bandai figures at retro game store
I had to resist the urge to buy them. It was hard. $60 a pop.
It wouldnt be so hard if SOMEONE made articulated figures of them... I understand mechani kong, but megalon and anguirus???? cmon
Well they're both kinda...different. If you want a movie accurate G14, that one's really good for what it is. If you want a really neat doofy colored Godzilla that's a nice, fun, weirdo thing: it's awesome too.
Just...depends on what you want.
All blu rays do. Make sure that the release is titled "GOJIRA" and it should have it.
There is the ordinary plain blu ray from classic media, and the super super ultra red carpet treatment by Criterion that has a great print + features
Yes. And yes it is actually called GOJIRA on the package. Classic media did that for some reason (authenticitys sake I guess). As long as it's classic media and called GOJIRA or criterion, you're fine
You want to get even more angry?
They probably cockblocked NECA from Showa and Millenium monsters despite never using them
I don't even like NECA that much but if I'm not wrong on this I want to murder everyone working at Tamashii
It's not a matter of cockblocking. NECA doesn't care about licensing other monsters. If Godzillas sell well, they'll make more Godzillas.
If they don't, then there's no reason to license his foes.
HERE WE GO
THE CIRCLE JERK OF MIKE RUSSO'S GANG IS TELLING EVERYONE TO PULL IT DOWN
IT'S HIS HAND
>NECA doesn't care about licensing other monsters.
You really have a lot to learn. They'd probably love to buy more of the monsters, but Toho's a dickshitter and makes it too costly to bother. Godzilla will always sell, so he's the safe bet. Toho doesn't play ball, that's really all there is to it.
Ah...hm. I don't know how I feel about this design anymore.
I'm not feeling it either. Like, I get the idea, it's radiation cancer burn victim Godzilla... but Godzilla is supposed to be an epic beast, not a horribly scarred freak.
I'm not going to say it sucks until after I see it, but so far, eh.
I really like it. Will pre-order Monsterarts/NECA
The idea behind the '54 design was that is was a dinosaur with radiation burns. the scale pattern is meant to look like the scars on bombing survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The design was referenced from classic dinosaur paintings of T.Rex. While the final design started diverging from that, and changed more and more onward, this seems like it's going back to that idea. I wonder if Anno and the others went back and researched the development of Gojira '54; or knowing Anno, he probably knew all of this already.
I think it's refreshing to see a Godzilla design that isn't trying to go for a "Cool Japanese monster" aesthetic, but rather a horror one. There's room for something that different in the series. Like I love the Heisei designs and the Millenium ones and all, but barring the retro look of GMK Goji, They all just seemed like contemporary, anime/manga influenced designs.
Honestly,if Godzilla '54 was a one-off movie, I don't think people would be as angry over it.Godzilla '54 was sort of a reworking of a then-modern interpretation of a tail-dragging dino, with some more anthropomorphized and mammalian feature like ears. Godzilla '98 is a reworking of a modern interpretation of a dino, with more bulked up features and using an iguana as a base to play up the reptillian aspect.
I've been waiting months for a godzilla thread on /tv/ to talk about the old movies and hype for 2016 toho and 2018 legendary
>tfw it's just talking about how shitty ayyy lmao zilla looks
the feel when I agree with them
fuck you anno
> Trusting MonsterArts to do justice to all of the insane details on this thing
They have trouble painting eyes and teeth on normal charcoal-colored Zillas. Hell I'm waiting on a Birth Zilla order and I'm already nervous about it.
And do you really think NECA could, with their disgustingly shiny plastic? I have their 54' Goji and it's good but you obviously haven't seen the amount of detail put into Destroyah, 2K Goji, and Kiryu.
As it stands though, Anno seems to have gone way too edgy with this. Like other anons have said I would have preferred a charcoal grey to the red that's going on. We'll see once the movie premieres.
Where the fuck are you getting all this tamashii and toho hate from? Nobodies fucking blocking NECA from the licenses. The simple fact is just that Toho's licenses are expensive. They got the license for Godzilla, which gives them plenty of versions to do. They'd have to buy each other license separately and they don't want to put out the dosh for the license to a single kaiju that's not guaranteed to sell, especially when they've got so many options for Godzilla that still seem to be selling well.
Goddamn, it's no one's fault. It's just the situation they're in. Though I suppose if you really want to cry over Toho blocking something you can blame them for denying NECA on Hannah Barbara and Ghost Godzilla.
Why do you think it's "hate" when the facts are stated? Toho is incredibly difficult to work with, everyone knows this. It is their fault for being that way, they have their right to be protective of their properties, but they need to fucking "grow up" and market their shit in a better manner.
We can't even get certain DVD/blu-ray releases because of bullshit they won't take the reigns on properly. Or as mentioned before, they throw a huge fit over bonus material and on and on. As for Tamashii, they've been dropping the ball lately anyway. So they deserve to get ribbed for it.
>Can't discuss the new Godzilla movie
>Can secretly mock kids posting in different groups
Just stop spreading bullshit like Toho or even fucking Bandai won't allow NECA to license other kaiju.
Toho has problems, and they have held back on ideas that NECA wanted to do, like Ghost or Marvel Godzilla,s, but they are a stickler for random-ass things like that, like enforcing IDW to use the 2002 Godzilla design, and not allowing any of the kaiju to use abilities they didn't use in movies.
But they don't disallow NECA to make more kaiju, they simply want to be payed for them, and NECA apparently doesn't find it worth the price.
Any word on the release date for this fucker?
>what is reading comprehension
He specifically acknowledged that they have blocked a handful of random things like Ghost or Marvel Godzila. His point was that for the majority of kaiju it's a matter of having license fees that NECA doesn't see being worth the risk rather than them actively disallowing NECA from doing other kaiju.
Do you work for Toho? Is there a reason you have to defend their precious honor or something? As a company they need to pull their heads out of their asses. I don't know anyone who wouldn't agree with that.
The way they run things is archaic, it wouldn't hurt them to update their practices for once. Loosen the stranglehold, at least.
I talked to my Bandai contacts, and we have great things to look forward to this year. Don't forget who loves you!
So we're gonna get nothing and you're gonna post the same shit everyone else gets 2 days after it's popular in SUPER REAL HD NOWHERE ELSE? Boy howdy, sure can't wait for that, or how you'll make more empty promises and post interviews worth the shit I just took. Thanks, Chris!
even if this was true, it's probably just gonna be shin goji and some repaints... Because obviously. I mean, gettin shin goji would be cool, but expected.
Unless were getting Megalon, Jet Jaguar, Hedorah, Showa Mecha G, etc then I wouldnt say were getting great things.
after i read this I went to check out his youtube channel to post some of the cringey shit he'd post, like him running around town in some godzilla pajama suit giving awards to people.
There was also a clip of him on the news too.
couldnt find his youtube channel, but found this other clip oh him on the news a different time for being a godzilla fan.
i found out he still makes posts on facebook about social issues n shit like gun laws, and makes a photoshopped pic of godzilla toys to go with it. pic related
I dont know the context behind this
when someone makes the new kaiju thread this can be the OP pic
Anyone here have the Ultraman 500 figures? I'm looking at getting a few, especially at ~$6 each. Specifically I want Snowgon, Gesura, and that orange one with the long eyes. Geezra (I think it's name) and the black dinosaur looking ones look neat too.
From word being passed around, Godzilla will start off all scarred and fucked up and battle-damaged and then solidify and heal into a more traditional appearance as the movie goes on.
I like that idea, plays on him being a victim of nuclear weapons, his healing factor, and his rage that's been present in more serious movies.
I got the Dinotank one. They're smaller then the standard Ultra monsters but quality is the same.
If you can't find the monster you want for a decent price then these are a nice alternative.
Wait, so Tkt.. the place I used to get hentai and shit from and look at hot r63 godzilla bitches has gone full sjw retard? When I get off work. .. man I'll need to check that shit out. If it's true that makes me a smidge sad.
Considering godzilla vs mechagodzilla 1974 is over $100 for the DVD and to Go hasn't localized the big ray in US yet, for some strange goddamn reason
Is there a UK version that has English subtitles that could possibly be played on a us ps3/4? If so which one and where can I obtain it?
Just picked this up. At Toy R Us it went for $40, but at this local toy store liquidating for the season, it was $54.99 at 50% off. Not fucking bad. It's fucking huge. Even bigger than the Pacific Rim Kaiju.
It looks good. Articulate jaw, arms, legs, wrists, tail (no elbows or knees though), and neck. Head and spikes could be a tad bigger but other than that it's pretty flawless.
It's long as fuck. Tail is probably 1.5x body length. Will be great for play.
If it could just look up it would be virtually perfect.
>Godzilla will start off all scarred and fucked up and battle-damaged and then solidify and heal into a more traditional appearance as the movie goes on.
>I like that idea, plays on him being a victim of nuclear weapons, his healing factor
FUCK I hope this is true. That being said, I hope that doesn't count as a Godzilla nerf i.e. he can now be harmed by a nuclear bomb.
That was a one-off Godzilla spinoff. Godzilla was just some zombie of lost souls at sea or something and King Ghidorah was some ancient dragon guardian?
It's good on its own but don't bring all that folklore trash into the continuity of the new series.
DBZ Super is cancer, now Godzilla is all I have left.
>guide to getting into the Ultra franchise
/m/ usually has a thread up to talk bout the Ultra series, but I can give some recommendations
The original series can be streamed on Hulu or you can usually find the complete series on DVD at Amazon or in the cheap DVD section of Wal-Mart, Fred Meyers, or any other big box store, and usually no more than $10. It's the classic, but it also is pretty cheesy, since they were still experimenting with the formula. However, it's easily accessible
The first sequel to Ultraman. Pretty much a stand alone series, Ultraseven is pretty bad-ass. Despite not being an officer, he's just a map-taker, Ultraseven kicks all the monsters ass hardcore. Stories are a bit more mature. You can get the whole series off of Amazon for about $30-$40. It's an awesome series.
One of the more recent Ultraman series, it's available on Crunchyroll. It's an alternate universe, but it references all the classic monsters. Fun series, cool characters, decent entry point into Ultra.
Also on Crunchyroll, this is a sequel to the original Ultraman series, but it ignores most of the series in between. Sort of a soft reboot, like how many 2000 Godzilla films are only a sequel to the '54 film and ignores everything else. Also a good place to start.
>Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie
What a fucking name. This was actually the first Ultra thing I seriously watched, and it's My personal favorite. It's sort of a sequel to Mebuis and the Mega Monster Battle series (which is sort of a cross between pokemon and Ultra Kaiju in space; I'll eventually watch this), since it has characters from those series returning. Really, it's about an evil Ultraman named Belial kicking all sorts of ass and being awesome. A new Ultraman, Zero, rises up to save the day, because he's the Designated Hero. I fucking love Ultraman Belial. Pic fucking related.
>Despite not being an officer, he's just a map-taker, Ultraseven kicks all the monsters ass hardcore.
I've heard this before on wikipedia pages and the like, but it just doesn't make much sense.
Seven is literally the one with a combat knife attached to his head. If anything, he seems like the one more prepped for combat.
> Finally get my order with BirthZilla in it
> His dorsal fins are grey instead of white
What the shitting fuck? Is this normal?
Got this guy an hour ago along with an Ultra Act lot!
Fucking Toho Kingdom ass kissing shill. Go fuck yourself with your watermark bullshit! Fuck off back to your circle jerk forum and put your face back in Toho's lap. Ugh.
Wish you'd OD already.
Hey, it sounds like you're forgetting who loves you. Don't you want high res posters?
>Get Ultraact Ultraman reissue
>Plan on getting others
>Bandai announces Ultraman figuarts
>They're more screen accurate than Ultraacts
oh fuck me... The ultraman I got is a great figure, but kinda wish I didn't get it now. The hip joints on the figuarts one looks kinda weird but i have a feeling ittl be fine when posed. Plus now I'll have a Baltan to pose him with, without having to pay ridiculous prices, since hes getting a figurarts too
Not great res, but better than a dumb ass watermark
Alright, I guess it must be normal since all of the in-hand footage I've seen of him has grey spines. Still abit disappointing, the only problem I have with mine is some paint-slop on some of the spines further down his back.
Nice figure, but I definitely prefer my G2000.
Here's hoping they just do the brothers and don't end the Ultra Act line entirely.
Honestly, that was one of the main reasons I bought the lot. My collection started with Glenfire, and shot all over the place until I got three of the renewal reissues of the orignal six Ultra brothers, and now all I need is Zoffy.
To get back on track, I know very little of Kaiju such as Goji and Gamera, but I know most by name at the least, and looking at MonsterArts makes me want the Ghidora (?) repaint and Kiryu so bad, but those pricetags...
>Rich Eso won't share the photos on his Godzilla 2016 video because they're not official photos from Toho
But you talked about not only the leaked footage of the Comic-Con experience for Godzilla 2014, but also the closed doors design from the advertisement convention, which your response was "oh well," however the only thing you didn't want to "leak" on your video was the comic-con test footage teaser, which your only excuse was that you didn't want a strike against your account.
>and now all I need is Zoffy.
Likewise, though I don't know if I'm willing to pay $75 CAD for a dude who looks pretty vanilla and doesn't actually appear much.
I hope the Figuarts Zetton and Baltan I do well, I'd love to see more. Or at least Bandai using this opportunity to reissue Ultra-act Baltan II, Eleking, and Gomora. Those niggas are seriously pricey as dicks.
>not being familiar with Gamera
Fix that terrible, terrible mistake.
Lol yup, a seller has three on eBay. It's the one from Mebius with the satellite-thing for $80. I'm capped for the month cause of that lot, though. I want Golzoa(?), but again, pricey as all sin.
I will make an attempt to watch Kaiju stuff mainly because I just found out a ton of ultra series are on YouTube.
>Orga NEVER EVER
>Megaguirus NEVER EVER
>Showa monsters NEVER EVER
All I wanted was an Orga toy that doesn't look like a literal piece of feces and didn't cost +150 bucks
Why does bandai hate their fans so much?
Godzilla 2000 and Kiryu sold fairly well though, didn't they? I don't see why we can't at least get a few Millennium SHMAs, but then again this is the same company who refuses to cover any getter robo continuity aside from armageddon.
I agree with you, but I think Bandai has lost faith in the SHMA line for the most part. Likewise with Ultra-acts (not completely dead, but very inactive like SHMA, even though there's still characters they can make that'll still sell decently.)
Hopefully we do get some newer stuff later this year or the next, but only time will tell. How popular is Orga, anyway?
Eh. There's some fan art of him online but I wouldn't say he's Mothra or Rodan level popular at all. Probably around the levels of some hesei monsters like Spacegoji, I'm guessing, but that's mostly because of DAMM introducing him to kids who hadn't even seen G2K.
When your standard releases have been constantly shelfwarming for the most part, it's hard to blame them for taking it so safe.
Not to say I'm accepting of it either, but on a business standpoint, eh...
>Make Legendary Godzilla
>People find out about the mediocre qc and stay far away
>Bandai trashes the line because it didn't sell
some bloke somewhere else online mentioned her heard whispers of Jet Jaguar, Megalon, and Titanasaurus for SHMonsterarts this year
Thats all bullshit right? There know source for that is there?
>Bandai (or any company) makes a shitty QC release
>it doesn't sell
>'oh I guess people don't want them'
But yeah, Gigan and Gamera didn't sell too well either. Or they produced too many.
I don't really think that matters too much, since the SHMA is of a different scale and complexity + the Revoltech was long discontinued.
Unless people really preferred the G3 design, which would have also been great.
I think it's because a lot of people already owned the revoltech and didn't want to buy another toy of the same design.
There was a tripfag on /toy/ who bought the revoltech because of my recommendation weeks before the SHMA was revealed. I still feel guilty.
That's fair enough, I guess. Sadly, we could never be sure of these things. Makes me wonder if Showa Gigan would have sold better than the 2004 design we got.
>There was a tripfag on /toy/ who bought the revoltech because of my recommendation weeks before the SHMA was revealed. I still feel guilty.
I hope the Revo wasn't too expensive.
>sold my Figuarts Kuuga Ultimate to some guy
>a day or so later, the SHFSS Kuuga Ultimate gets announced at TN
Eh. It was like 40-50 bucks at the time
>>sold my Figuarts Kuuga Ultimate to some guy
>>a day or so later, the SHFSS Kuuga Ultimate gets announced at TN
>Also on Crunchyroll, this is a sequel to the original Ultraman series, but it ignores most of the series in between. Sort of a soft reboot, like how many 2000 Godzilla films are only a sequel to the '54 film and ignores everything else.
Have you actually fucking watched Mebius before? It is literally absolutely a continuation of all the past Showa Ultra series. Ulttaman are known quantities by then but haven't been seen or needed in decades, the METEOR technology is based on tech from past alien invasions, there is a kaiju fanatic on the team who knows every classic kaiju that shows up, every Ultra up to 80 cameos and generally references the end of each series... you can't be more wrong if you tried. Your comparison would fit shit like Ultraseven Evolution or maybe Max, not Mebius. Mebius is like the magical alternate universe where Toho came back after twenty years with a sequel to Terror of MG.
Aww yes. Finally got all the robots. Just Moguera and he's awesome. He was always one of my favorite and I love all his accessories.
Sorry, can't git hype
When are we getting best Goji, guys?
>another repainted release
It's GMK godzilla, don't think he has an SHMA though.
I go on these threads often but to be perfectly honest I haven't seen much godzilla movies. Most of my love for the franchise is nostalgia
>wait is this the scary godzilla with no pupils?
>I go on these threads often but to be perfectly honest I haven't seen much godzilla movies.
That explains a lot about some of the retarded shit this general says.
So this is something I'm curious about regarding Birth Zilla. Is he supposed to have a blue paint wash on his body or is that specific to the first-issue and not the re-release?
Second guy here, I don't actually say that much shit except "Why doesn't bandai make SHMA of Showa and Millennium monsters now that they're done with Hesei?" Which is a pretty common sentiment actually. Most of the time I'm just on here for news, or lack thereof.
>"Keep in mind, new SHMA figures production will be scaled back in lieu of new Godzilla products by Tamashii Nations."
>Get good news a few hours ago
>Scalpman is already trying to fire up the doom n' gloom train again
>A kaiju we already have gotten
is there some huge demand for ANOTHER Ghidora, Mothra, or Godzilla that I'm missing?.... I mean, I'm glad we're getting something new(ish) atleast... it's just... c'mon. Give us a Kaiju we don't have.
Shitman. You're thinking about his butt buddy Christopher "Chris-Ass" Mirajiginarinarearend.
Didn't Shipman attempt to manipulate the market with some sort of terror warning like system designed to panic people into buying figures from his insanely overpriced ebay accounts/web site?
I wouldn't trust anything he said. I'm surprised he's still working with Tamashii. Guess they never caught wind of the double dealing. Or they don't care.
Lol, stupid Tamashii.
There's also a third person he's probably referring to: Michael "my supplier says NECA execs hate Godzilla" Cherkowsky. He runs a comic store or online toy store or something and uses the GCG to spam his wares.
But Shillman is indeed Shitman is indeed Scalpman.
Chris Mirjaas;lkdjfas;lkj has the reigns for all practical purposes now, using the site to strengthen industry connections presumably for his (lol) "film" "career" or something.
They're currently censoring the leaked Godzilla 2016 photos just in case their daddy Toho might get angry.
>that character description
Transcendence MonsterArts when?
I hope you're right. Who wouldn't want Leader Demon? He even has a detailed bio like straight out of a DeviantArt description or a fantasy match.
Yes, Toho has no interest in making those, that has nothing to do with allowing or disallowing NECA to make other kaiju.
Like I said, stop with the bullshit "Bandai won't allow it". Bandai does not have that much power over Toho. They may have cockblocked a Godzilla Revoltech, but that was a Japanese company making similar scaled articulated monsters.
If someone wants to offer some proof, sure, but I highly doubt they have anything to do with NECA not making other kaiju.
Well, that was a Marvel product, and not Toho, so not surprised they shot it down. For all we know, Marvel would have had to have been involved.
Same with the HB Godzilla.
It seems mainly Toho's just saying no to Godzilla's that are not "theirs".
Hoping for GMK Mothra. I'm all for milk-eyed, demon, fatty, Godzilla, but I'm all about the bug goddess.
I skipped her Heisei SMA as I wasn't a fan of the design and I already had the Showa Revoletch, so I really hope they deliver.
Would also be gaga for stuff based on the Rebirth of Mothra series(Deathghidorah and pretty much any Leo design especially), but I know that ain't happening soon if ever.
>They may have cockblocked a Godzilla Revoltech
This alone is reason enough for me to hate bandai. Imagine all the kaiju revoltechs we would have had by now at half the buck and twice the bang of Bandai's shit.
>mfw there will never be a SHMA Godzilla 2002/2003
I would guess not having the King of the Monsters in your monster line would be a major issue.
Rodan could arguably stand alone, being his solo movie design, but Gigan and Anguiras with no one to fight was a problem.
>half the buck
>twice the bang
Not with those horrible clicky joints!
Whatever flaws I've found with MonsterArts (far too expensive for what they are), I still enjoy them more than the Revoltechs we got, or NECAs figures. I never ran into the glaring QC issues others did, so overall the figures were a far higher quality than anything we had gotten before.
NECA's a a fine figure for the price at least, but sadly besides durability they are far less playable thanks to in my case every single Godzilla I've gotten has stuck joints.
>Not with those horrible clicky joints!
My Monster Hunter, Eva, and Getter Robo revoltechs would all like to have a word with you.
Admittedly Gamera (G2) could be a lot better but my Anguirus is pretty good.
