So I've been buying lots of masterpiece transformers and I've got just about all my fav characters except for hot rod. I know Takara is making a new one cause the original had so many issues but I see DX9 has this awesome looking Rodimus being released soon, I never bought a third party figure so I'm curious if they are worth the price .

Also, Fanstoys is also doing an MP Hot Rod later

Toy of the fucking year for me right here.

So damn tiny and yet can do so much. Only thing he's missing is a deeper elbow joint and maybe a toe joint, but damn. Hopefully Universe Cyclonus won't jump in price because of him. Never got one myself because of the old somewhat doofy facesculpt but definitely need him now as a companion piece. Can't wait for my board to come in. Trying to figure out if it's possible to magnetize his feet to it or something.

>>

>>

Is that even a KO anymore? It's look like a completely new toy.

Fucking Wei Jiang. Taking that KO business to the next level.

>>5350347
Considering their other oversized AoE KOs go for about $30 shipped from China, this might not be much more than $50.
>>
>>5350347
If this is the WeiJiang OS AoE OP, then we do. It's something like $47 locally in China. With shipping and seller markups, it's gonna be slightly cheaper than WeiJiang's MPP10, which ended up being around $110 shipped most places.

>>
>preorder last minute from chosen prime
>shit comes in next day, ships same day Friday
>free 2 day priority shipping showed up today from half way across the country

Meanwhile:

>order from TFS
>takes weeks to get things other retailers already got
>a couple days until order ships
> pay for better shipping rates than the free shipping, takes more than 1.5 weeks to arrive from the same sort of distance.

Lesson learned.
I know where I'm ordering from now on.
>>
Will the PE Constructicon kits be out soon?
>>
>>5350853
I'm done with TFSource. Last two orders were for things in stock - TFS claims "same day shipping" if you order before 1 pm - and my order then sat there for a week without shipping despite me emailing them repeatedly asking what the issue was.

Chosen Prime, on the other hand - I ordered something Friday at 5:30 pm my time (4:30 in AZ). It ships that day (for free) and is delivered today.

Any critiques or problems with it? Highlights? Etc.
>>
>>5351141

I bought Mine second hand, but it had all the stuff. There was initial reports of the bull, Bovis, buttplate cracking but I don't see any issues with that.

The articulation can be a bit wonky in combined mode, but considering the size and consruction, it's far better than it needed to be.

Probably the only weird thing is the way the sword handle is made from the lion, Leo Dux, tail, that you want to set it up with the hinge facing away from gravity or it will flop down awkwardly

The individual modes are pretty good. Nice hardy design, great articulation. Some bitch that it's too greebily but I love the look, so I have no complaints about that.

Bovis and Fortis are basically the same mold,, with mostly just the heads being different. Same with the arm bots, Tigris,Talon, and Felisaber, are basically the same as well. But I think it works and the team looks cohesive while individual.

I really don't have any complaints overall.
>>
>>5351166

Has the cracking issue been solved in later releases of the figures, or you don't know?
>>
>>5350940

Sleek and dynamic but merciless wtolerances and a tendency for unintuitive, soul crushing transforming motions. You have to line things up perfect and the edges od the plasric are unkind to your fingers.

Granted there are exceptions to the rule like function x bots being transforming bliss. Fans project has been slipping while maketoys kicked it up a notch.

>>5351034

Big and heavy. You need slip pads on his feet to handle the weight on some surfaces. Each bot is a solid stand alone rocking articulation and tabs that lock everything down. The alt modes are weak, and the combiner does a lot of things with plenty of options to keep things changed up. You have to like the take on the designs.
>>
>>5351177

Most fortis come with extra buttplate parts. Honestly it was minor compared to the elbow soft detents getting mashed, and that was just cosmetic. The newer run should have those fixed, but you can check to be sure before bending them.
>>
>>5351177

As far as I know, that was only an issue on the first run of Bovis, and later runs had fixed it. Most if not all Fortis also comes with a replacement piece for Bovis just in case, though.

I like Vangelus' reviews for Feral Rex, so maybe look at them for a closer look. I pretty much agree with his opinion over it.
>>
>>5351183

I'd heard some had elbow problems as well. Were limbs just breaking off or something? A few reviews mentioned it by saying there were parts to fix it (but good fucking luck doing so because it involves repinning?), so what was the actual issue?
>>
How was Metal Club's quality on their Saint Seiya KOs? I'm curius because that might be an indictor for the quality on their future Feral Rex KO.

I want a cheap Razorclaw toy so bad.
>>
>>5351256
Amazing, there is little difference between the originals and the MC versions. They even do color schemes that bandai hasn't got around to do yet.
>>
>>5351274
Sweet. So like a good KO MP, then?
>>
>>5351284
Pretty much, but I would say the quality would be a little better than the MP KOs.

>>5351190
>>5351183
>>5351182

Wasn't there an addon kit of extra guns for the lions and robot modes by some 3rd party? Anyone remember the name of it?
>>
>>5351192
No breakages, but the nubs on the elbow soft ratchets got a little mashed with use because the factory put the elbow piece on the right elbow on backwards. It was mostly cosmetic and didn't hurt the elbow much. You just need to pop the pin out and flip it and it's fine.
>>
>>5351335
Royal Arsenal
>>
>>5351412

Oh, so it won't actually impair the figures if you get one with this problem?

>>5351413

Thanks! I was kind of upset the base figures didn't include the shoulder guns and similar for some of the figures, this was the set I'd heard mentioned.

I really think I'm going to take the plunge and get this big bastard. I really can't afford it, but Predaking is my literal white whale. Never got him when I was younger, and Hasbro hasn't made a fucking updated one in CW despite making everything else but Abominus and that one sea monster 'bot, and apparently the cheaper alternative of War Lord has some leg issues and honestly, I'd rather pay the extra to ensure I get quality over some floppy motherfucker.
>>
>>5351413

Oh, and anyone know if the guns in those sets would fit regular transformer's hands? 5mm holes I think the official ones usually use?

I love alternate expressive faces. If Transformers have mouths they're usually neutral, frowning, or a slight grin.

Shame Hellfire's vehicle mode isn't the best. MMC and KFC do it a lot better.
>>
>>5352403
Not sure what Dinobot that's supposed to represent, but that shouting face is unofortunate.

Fucking RIP my wallet.

At least Commotus is fucking great. So strange seeing such a beefy transformer going to suc a beefy tank mode but still having such a straightforward transformation. Was expecting something more along the lines of the post mounting wibbly nightmare that Cynicus was with that arm assembly but it actually works.

>>
>>5354485

How are the Fansprojects ones? They look better to me than the Planet X stuff.

The FT ones are just too expensive, damn.
>>
>>5354557
Not FP's best outing, from what I hear. but they dont seem that bad. be sure to look at the headsculpts first. Slag's face is an... acquired taste

Alot of people seem to hate them though. when FP announced their Grimlock, everyone was talking about buying PX Grimlock instead (me being one of them..)

I agree that they shouldnt have used ball joints for their hips though.
>>
>>5354577

Are there any known problems with them, structurally? Aesthetics are all taste, but physical problems can't be disputed, usually.
>>
>>5354082
Really? Source?
>>
>>5354612

IIRC they are based in Singapore but contract people from the west to do designs. They communicate primary with English speaking fans though.

>>5354589

The lack of locking tabs on the kibble and loose joints on Columpio, and the fact he can't hold his weapons sucks. He really ruined it for a lot of people, myself included.

Cubar has retarded specific tolerances to get it to line up in alt mode and the tail kibble forms a cup handle on the back

Volar doesn't really transform much but is the most solid of the bunch.

Their Snarl and grimlock look like shit IMO, the original fembot doesn't do anything exciting and has a torso face.

Best dinomodes of the bunch with the exception of Planet X Vulcun's god tier T-rex and Planet X Quirinus.
>>
>>5354738

Were any of the issues addressed with Columpio or are they all just potentially problematic?

Honestly, for their price point and looks they look the best option for me. The Fantoys ones are waaaaayyyyy too expensive, and while I don't mind the WfC/FoC stylings of Planet X, I was looking for something more traditional. I dunno. It's all just me trying to decide so nothing is set in stone.
>>
>>5354801
Nothing but a new torso piece to give him hip ratchets instead of hip ball joints that came with Volar.

You could go with toyworld. None of them are awful except their swoop, who is just a fat slab with wings. Just ignore the combining gimmick because the combiner is shit. They're the most classic looking of the bunch at the voyager scale. Their weapons are absolute garbage though.

Personally I went with Planet X. Neptune hooked me after Their swoop was lukewarm.
>>
>>5354822

After looking at some reviews of each (wow, they all look very nice), I don't mind Columpio having back kibble, I just sort of expect it with ANY Transformer, 3P or no.

I'm honestly having a hard time deciding.

Idk how to salvage CW prime like this and make all the add on parts integrated without partsforming, but both the beelzeboss and SND kits are doing pretty good. Beelzeboss's looks like current comic prime while SND is before the CW nonsense. Thinking about getting the BB one for a classics prime and the SND hugeness for a Nemesis prime/Scourge. Toyworld's Orion and classics prime just don't cut it.

Fuck G1 and fuck the middle-aged manchildren who don't like it because its "weeb shit", Perfect Effect's Lio Convoy was by far the best 3P figure this year. THIS is what 3P should be about; high quality materials, lots of paint and metal, tackling exotic designs that Hasbro would never even think of, and doing it in a way that gives pretty much every other figure even outside of the Transformers franchise a run for its money. So refreshing after getting nothing but blocks with panel lines.

and for people who just want a big, high end Lio Convoy, it doesnt work for them either, cause its so different from the source

I know there are plans on making better hands and feet for CW Bruticus (I think from the same company that made the hands and feet for the other Combiners.)

What I'd really like is to have more weapons for him to hold, alongside a more impressive looking back cannon.

>>
>>5359749

How are the MMC Arcee-alikes in terms of quality, anyone got first hand experience? Looking at the Elita-1-alike. Salvia looks good color-wise, but she seems to be sold out of a lot of places.
>>
>>5359749

>>
>>5359765
Nice little bots in both modes. Transformation is a bit of pain with lots of adjusting and wriggling parts around other parts with a bit of wiggle room on the alts for adjustments. Their head articulation is a bit limited due to that little spike on the back of the hover car. Poseability in the limbs is great and they all have a neat little ab crunch.

Elita is nice but plain in alt mode.
Saliva had a nice hammer and all the other weapons + flaps for the paradon medic coloured one.

If you're only going to get one, I'd say Saliva for all the extra and remolded bits, getting more from their price point.

Elita is there if you care about the character, just because your only other options for her are an energon Arcee bike repaint or a botcon screaming pink boat. She only comes with a bow and pistols, foregoing the swords most of the others have.

Really? I've had the figure for months now and mine has been okay. Of course, given the delicate nature of the design, I try not to ham-hand it, so that may be why. People should treat this more like a Metal Build or some other high-end Chogokin figure instead of your usual Transformer.

No, Chogokins usually only have metal for the joints and as a counterweight in the ankles. I was thinking specifically of the DX Chogokin Macross Valkyries, which are super delicate. Anyone who says the MP Seekers (old or new) are prone to breakage haven't touched any of these figures yet.
>>
>>5360050
>I was thinking specifically of the DX Chogokin Macross Valkyries, which are super delicate. Anyone who says the MP Seekers (old or new) are prone to breakage haven't touched any of these figures yet.

I've never heard of anyone breaking those though.
>>
>>5360105
That's because the people who buy them are more used to that kind of figure. If you go to sites like Macross World, where they also talk about 3rd party TFs, you rarely ever see anyone break anything. That's because collectors of Japanese mecha toys are usually more careful about how they handle their figures than western TF fans, who usually collect no other robot figures other than Transformers and thus have no other benchmark to compare them to other than Hastak's stuff and other 3P figures. Point is, the fault of Leonidas was that it was advertised to the wrong target audience, and those people expecting this guy to pull off a kneeling pose in 10 seconds like your usual TF are much more likely to break it than someone who wants to observe how the joints work and take their time with each pose.

I wonder how long your usual TF fan can handle a Macross Valkyre without snapping off a panel.
>>
>>5360050
>I was thinking specifically of the DX Chogokin Macross Valkyries
Ah, I was thinking of Soul of Chogokins. I have Gaogaigar and I cant ever see him breaking. It takes effort just to hold the damn thing up, let alone break it!
>>
>>5360050 #
And you just proved you never handled the old MP Seekers. They ARE fragile due to bad engineering, some parts WILL break for sure over time if you transform them, no matter how delicate and careful you are. The MP11 mold adresses these issues.
>>
>>5360241
Makes sense actually, since it was designed by the Macross guy
>>
>>5360241
>And you just proved you never handled the old MP Seekers.

I actually have the old Wal-Mart Exclusive MP Skywarp, and the fairly old TRU Thundercracker, so I actually do have both Seeker molds to compare with. I will say that the engineering is rather finicky in some areas (like the lack of a proper locking mechanism for the hip area), but they are both at least three times more solid and easier to Transform than the Macross stuff. Funny that you mention the new mold being better because the plastic quality on my Thundercracker is actually worse and there already stress marks where there shouldn't be. Regardless, it's still a solid figure.

You're missing the point. You can't compare something that will break if you use it wrong and something that will break if you simply use it. I own several Macross toys and while I do agree that they wouldn't last long in some hamhands, they would never break if transformed and posed right.

The toys are definitely for kids, theres no argument there, when it comes to official stuff.

The comics packed with them though, not so much.

Wouldn't let my young kids read that shit, the fuck is Hasbro thinking, the IDW comics aren't for kids.

MMC's recent comic stuff are some quality cons (Cynicus, Anarchus, Commotus).

FP insecticons. Either versions but the Deluxe set are cheap and make good foot soldiers.

If you want big constructicons you could go with Toyworld, Generation Toy, or Hasbro/Takara.

Did KFC's Captain Shark just outright kill any chance of 3rd party Brave toys? You'd think Maketoys or some of the other Japanese companies that grew up with that stuff would be inclined, especially since the Hasbro embargo on Brave toys still exists to this day. Not even a Shadowmaru repaint/remold of Hexatron was made despite it being a piss easy job to do so.

Considering how popular the SRCs of them were, especially GGG and Might Gaine, it's gotta be sorta worth it...
>>
>>5362905
I honestly think that might be the case, which sucks cause his aesthetic is completely uglier than the real Captain Shark.

Shadowmaru not being a thing yet is weird, he was teased alongside Greatshot, but Greatshot's toy is already out...

Also i don't know fi its hasbro's fault that theres no Brave toys now, pretty sure its because of the takara tomy merger. before the merger, the Brave Revival line was a thing, but then they canceled it.

>Considering how popular the SRCs of them were
As much as I love Braves, I dont think the SRCs were that popular, only one that didnt go on sale later was GGG, everyone else you could get 40% off. For a while you could buy five dollar Choryujins from HLJ... its sad, no?

Greatshot did take forever to get release. There were two other Hexatron variants that were not announced before Greatshot and Shadowmaru that was released.

I'm still hoping for Shadowmaru, since he's an instant buy for Me.

I'd also love for a 3P Goldran.
>>
>>5363037
As much as I love Shadowmaru, I wouldnt buy the MMC one. That toy barely looks like Sixshot, let alone Shadowmaru.

Call me when he gets an animation accurate SRC...
>>
>>5363048
I don't think it's even possible to have a six changer with that level of Bari aesthetics. Much as I wish it, best I think they could do in retaining that shape would be some 600+ Sentinel thing like their Dancouga.

>>5363031
Yeah, I'd love to have him but that headsculpt is just plain wrong for the character, totally off putting.
Also figured the toys are all dead due to the same reason Braves can't be featured in SRW or other crossover games, just because every series save I believe GGG, has at least one of a transformers character in the cast. Though if Deathsaurus Wars become a thing and someone besides to make a Death Geist out of it, I'd lose my shit. Hell even just Takara making one to go with their old-ass Exkaiser MP would be fucking awesome.
>>
>>5363031
Yeah the retail GGG SRCs go on firesale every major sale event at HLJ and Hobby Search and afterwards they still manage to have some left for the next one. Maybe TT could get better results with a different approach but if Bandai gets those sorts of results with one of their collector lines then I can see why TT would shy away from them at least for the time being. It's kind of a shame, they're not bad efforts, though stripped of the transformation and combination gimmicks I suppose they lose some appeal which would go some way to explaining them bombing. SoC GGG seems to have done well enough though, maybe that might change some minds.
>>5363054
Speaking of Brave MPs, I'm kinda curious what would have happened had they kept up with the subline. I've got SoC GGG and it's a thing of beauty but I find myself wondering what an MP GGG would be like, it would make for an interesting comparison I think.

At least some of them like Fire J Decker and Great Might Gaine might have just been impossible to make look good, considering the nature of vehicle hunks just sort of.....hanging off limbs. But seeing stuff like Fire Dagwon, Goldran and Might Gaine in proper proportions with modern engineering, would've been amazing too see, especially with how good SoC GGG turned out.

Man, I'll never understand the hate some of you people put on Hexatron. "Doesn't look like Sixshot", it looks exactly what a WFC Sixshot would look like, with added ninja elements. "I just want an action figure" Hexatron is a kick ass action figure. The only things one could have against it is it's size (since he's closer to the old Leader class size) and the WFC-esque aesthetics.

Hex is still My all time favorite 3P figure.

it was never advertised as a WFC Sixshot though. I definitely see where you're coming from, but i dont think he's at home with that style. This thing is 100% Cassy Sark aesthetic. Boring detail, weird proportions, and a head that barely looks like Sixshot, with stubby wings to boot.

>>5363707
IMO, no. Continuum is a minor change to make him look more G1, which seems to appeal to most people. But you lose out the ninjabot appeal, so no swords, no hidden shurikens, and he's more expensive now (he started at the same price as the other versions). But then, the continuum version never appealed to Me.

>>5363346
>it was never advertised as a WFC Sixshot
Yeah, it was. That's why the initial version had those pink grill highlights that TFW bitched about (and also why the continuum was made to look more G1, more TFW bitching). The fiction was always a what-if world based on early Furman-era IDW Cybertron.

I mean if it doesn't grab you, that's your right to feel. That really doesn't mean it's a bad toy, yet people shit on it for no good reason, just because 'muh opinions'.

So apparently a little bit of paint makes Commotus about twice as good. Tiny bit of paint on his shins and backplate make a world of difference and because of the nature of the plastic, take not much skill to apply. Figured I'd have to use pinstripe style pull brushstrokes but the excess paint outside of the panel lining just wipes away.
