How do you play a character that hates his own kind/race, without turning him into Uncle Ruckus: Fantasy Edition?
Played an elf who married a non-elf, got discriminated against because elves think they're so great and shouldn't mix. He lived among humans so long he basically thinks of himself as human. When he encounters other elves he gets pretty aggressive and quietly pissed off, usually goes out of his way to give them a hard time, even provoking them sometimes.
Don't exaggerate it to the point of comedy like Uncle Ruckus.
For example, an Orc who believes that Orcish "culture" (air quotes are his) is vile, and that the only solution is to wipe out the Orcs in order to make the world safe for decent Human folk.
An Elf who believes his own people to be a collection of pompous windbags who intentionally hold the younger races back in order to preserve their own inflated sense of superiority.
There are negative traits to every culture and some cultures have more of them. I think it is reasonable to find an example of a character in D&D who looks down on most other members of his/her species. The cliched and obvious one is Drizzt, because few Drow have a real conscience in the Forgotten Realms. Other examples might include a Frost Giant that's CG instead of EG as most of his kin are. You could play a half-orc who's actually LG.
Ultimately, humans are superior to every other species because they're the shortest lived sentient species. This forces them to learn, adapt, and create tools to use in a very short amount of time and results in the community's level of sophistication and power rising at phenomenal rates, given access to enough resources. But that's also their biggest problem, they guzzle resources like no other because of their short lifespans. Every new generation has to acquire a home, time and funds for child-rearing, and they all want to live separately instead of communally. You could create a human who hates other humans because he views his own species like a disease or especially rabid parasite, simply gnawing away at the environment to spread our ilk.
Cut out the wank about humans a best and keep the "They're voracious pests" part and you've got yourself a PC.
Most? Certainly not. Fundamental tenets of liberalism, and I do mean American term, are conducive to the good of society - solidarity, empathy, cooperation, sacrifice of individual's benefit for common good.
I suppose you're referring to the more vocal, hysterical kind of liberal that takes collective guilt to absurd extremes or extends his understanding of society over people who wouldn't even dream of reciprocation.
I'm currently doing this with my Tiefling Paladin.
She was originally an Angel on a holy crusade, transformed via a Wish by a powerful demon.
She was reincarnated as a Tiefling, this form chosen by said demon, to mock her. He also gave her back her memories, to make her suffer emotionally, seeing as she made her life out of slaying demons.
She now seeks to finish her crusade and slay said demon, in the name of her holy god.
Yes, more or less. A recent studies show that left leaning people tend to be unable to understand that people have different opinions and think differently. Make of that what you will.
Literally why do you even come to this fucking site? It's been like this since the start.
>...humans ate often superior to there races.
The fact I am making "Chef" as a valid class in a setting I'm writing up made me giggle.
Them being essentially alchemists crossed with mad scientists (more so than usual) to the point that the little quote I'm going to have go along with the description is "Any sufficiently hot cocoa is indistinguishable from magic!"
That is part of the PASSION School of Cuisine! Putting your emotions and belief into the food to give it its effects, originally created by a chef to overcome the poor ingredients he had to work with at the time, which was found to work well with good ingredients, too.
>beaing this new
back in the old days all we would get is a /b/ raid, not a constant flood of shitposting from /pol/. We were a proud people and did not need to get our shitposting from the lesser boards.
One of my first characters was a half elf who hated all elves.
He despised his mother for being an elf and his father for impregnating one.
He was also a self loathing alcoholic.
Shame I was shit at role playing back then and the campaign fell through pretty quickly or I might have been able to go somewhere with him.
Long time ago in a Rifts CS campaign (ino rifts a shit etc) I played a Ratboy who was really trying to get his shit together, work as a scout/tracker for the Lone Star military, teach his fellow rats about civilized life, and was tiredtiredtired of the infighting and sewers and hate. He fought well, was loyal to his squad, followed orders, saved the Lt. in the Tolkien campaign, tried not to think too much about the war crimes, and in the end wanted to go home to teach/train a new generation that maybe wouldn’t have it so bad. The hyper-human supremacist juicer in the squad shot him in the back during the last days of the campaign. Shit was well roleplayed and sad as fuck.
>all gaming groups should watch Platoon together before any military campaign
I had a character who was raised like that. He didn't hate elves or anything like that. The other elf in the group was a typical Elven Superior type guy.
Like, we met this group of elves that was fucking with a group of Dorfs, and the drofs helped us out, right?
But we ended up going with the elves because the DM railroad us. But the entire time I was like 'I don't trust them. Remember that time they tried to kill us?'
And he's like 'dude its fine their elves. We're elves. Why wouldn't you trust another elf?'
I played a Kroot who had been inductered almost all his life in our RT dynasty. He was not about hating Kroot, but everykind of Xenos in general. Rest of the players didn't realise I was "uncle-toming" until I cawed "WHO DIS FOUREYES ON DA SHIP!" to the Stryxis delegate.
You can of course take the easy way: Undead that wishes to eradicate all undead, but that's pretty standard.
You could also look at it in a family sense.
>We dwarves of the Hammerhand clan have been around fer ages! Unlike those fackin' ninnies that call 'emselves the Maceface!
Oh, I dunno... Drizzt? (ie. every non-evil aligned drow ever, since every non-evil aligned drow ever, is Drizzt.)
Actually, a similar concept (also, oddly, used by R.A. Salvatore), is a character who doesn't necessarily hate their own race, but wants to see a radical change in them for their long term survival - so maybe you could say he hates their culture. The trope probably being more commonly known as "Orc chieftain ISO civilization, and the old guard is trying to usurp him". (Which, incidentally, seems to be the theme for the upcoming *shiver* Warcraft movie.)
TFW ye have spent so much time on /pol/ ye no longer know what a liberal is.
Thread would be full of spidermen and bananas.
Just ask tumblr or reddit to explain “white privilege” to you, or ask a friend what he thinks about racism (or colonialism or the holocaust, depends on where you live). You'll see.
Really racial self-hatred just seems to turn into xenophilia and a blue-eyed adoration of the Other while you're obsessed with your own people's historical and present shortcomings. Also being an implicit classicist.
One option would be this guy. He's serving his masters because he actually wants them to win, wants to see what comes after mankind.
Well, there's also the part that he just likes to kill people, but nobody's perfect.
And I'm surprised nobody mentioned Hitler so far, wasn't he half-jewish or something?
>Jokes on you - I was only pretending to be retarded - /pol/ is satire!
Poe's law is no defense.
>And I'm surprised nobody mentioned Hitler so far
And there is no defense from Godwin's law.
I guess being raised by parents of a different race? I'm trying to do this sort of thing for my game, though less of a hatred of own race, more total lack of undertanding of/exposure to own race
posted my character idea in another thread
Best friend is a super conservative Mexican chick, she absolutely hates Mexicans. Says it somewhat regularly and is also regularly pretty sexist against women. I was talking with her last night, she said she literally can't find anyone who isn't white attractive and is down for sleeping with anyone who's Aryan (German Aryan not Indian).
Yes. We should all be able to post political bait outside of the containment board for political shitposting. Who cares if most of us just want to talk about RPGs in piece without someone bringing up their retarded opinions on regional politics.
Make it so:
>Character belongs to a race that thinks of itself as special and is superior at certain things (like military or magic)
>Character is somewhat looked down because he does something that his race dislikes (like creating magitek or forging tesla swords that also count as a lightning rod)
>Character marries someone from another race and is bullied by other for that since the race looks down on interracial marriages due to them thinking of themselves as superior
>Taken to its logical conclusion: the character's mate is killed by his kin and is the final straw that causes him to move out with his half-whatever kids to another country and revolutionize it and its neighbors with the things his kin looked down on
>Get a shit-eating grin when your character's pompous countrymen are getting beaten and his homeland annexed by its neighbors
Seriously, fuck those cannibalistic-pricks.
>Go to any American University and talk to a random white twenty-something.
Thanks for assuming how things are in the US is how things are in the entirety of existence again.
What is it with fucking americans looking out their window and thinking they know how the entire universe works, shit
American feminists especially but really anyone with any sort of political or social opinion in that country goddamn
Shut it yuropoor scum.
>implying it isn't just as bad, if not worse, in the old world
It depends on their race and/or gender honestly. Being anything but a straight white male and conservative is literally batting for the team that hates you and wants to restrict your personal freedoms more than their own.
All conservatives are liberal when it comes to what they do with their own life.
Also the term your looking for is "progressives", dumbass. All progressives are liberal-leaning but not all liberals are progressives.
Play Groundskeeper Willy or someone like him.
He hates everything, and blames pretty much everyone for ruining Scotland, especially other Scots.
Also anyone that's clannish or tribal in general.
Just tick off steps along the ladder. Siblings or other family members, family, tribe, clan, nation, the world.
At some point they will be for one of these against everything else, or some interesting combination.
They will have good reasons in their mind, to have conflicts and or/loyalties at every level/before other loyalties.
So they might both hate closer relations or associations more, or at times just as much, but for different more personal reasons.
Or you know, sort of hate everyone but have reasons to cooperate with some of them at certain times above others.
Well, you could always have them be just kinda depressed about themselves. My Tiefling Sorcerer doesn't necessarily hate Tieflings as a rule, but he's gone so far as swearing never to sire a child so his tainted bloodline can never pass on, and has encouraged others to do the same.
>I don't hate you...
>...but don't breed.
I'm getting mixed messages here.
You just gave me a great idea, OP.
>Half-Orc 5e Paladin
>Dump intelligence hard
>I mean REALLY hard
>Take the Oath of Vengeance to crusade/genocide against all Orcs
>Completely failing to even notice that I am part Orc
>People try to point out I have Orc blood in me
>Ignore them and talk about how those tusky faggots suck Gruumsh's cock all day every day
This post would have been better if I could come up with racial slurs for ors, I am sorry brothers
Maybe in the next life, poor uncle Ruckus.
