If you could chose anyone to DM a game of D&D, who would it be ?
Why ?

For me it would be pic related, even tho games would probably take ages.

Because I realize that, unless you're that 1/1,000,000 OCD Autist who can literally plan everything out perfectly, good DMing is 90% about strong improv, I'd probably go with Sascha Baron Cohen, because he'd always be able to keep up with any party, improv something fun and challenging at any turn, and you'd always know what NPC you were talking to no matter what.

However, after seeing Man With The Iron Fists, part of me REALLY wants to play in a Legends of the Wulin game run y Rza.
>>
>>45334195
RZA is interesting...

Cohen would be horrible! Always goes for the cheap shot, always goes over the top, total magical realm, it's not only unbearable for more than 20, minutes, it is also completely predictable.

A GM's job isn't to provoke awkward reactions from the players.
>>
>>45334244
Fine then, an improv master who relies on something other than just awkwardness.

You just REALLY don't want most writers, because then you'll end up with this sort of thing>>45334100

George R R Martin. Or possibly Robert Heinlein.

One would be literally killing the players without them realising it, or betraying the m all at the end of the game - a TPK turning into a REAL TPK.

The other would play normally, be a fun, if somewhat jingoistic game. And then the next morning you'd wake up and find yourself enlisted and already at Parris Island, being screamed at by a giant man with no knowledge of how you joined hte fucking marines.

A game with Anno could be very fun. Or at least so convoluted it comes out as something enjoyable.

I unironically love NGE, and would love to see a tabletop game that simulates Third Impact
>>
>>45334846
True enough there. I just think he really puts a lot of thought into settings and characters, making sure they are consistent and, for lack of a better word, belivable. Which is the qualities I rate the highest as both a GM and a player.

It helps that he has a based voice, of course.
>>

But all your interesting characters would die in the second session and only that guy would survive.

>>
>>45334914
The thing I like most about Third Impact is how it's a breather. A lot of people think it's sad or maybe even a little stupid but to me, everyone turning into LCL and becoming unified as one whole being is a little comforting to me considering all the heartaches and hardships the characters all suffered.

I'd like to see a quest where, after one goes to Hell and back, and back to Hell they are finally granted a bittersweet relief. All of their suffering is over, and now they can just let it all go.

Simulates the sense of relief that you get, that it's finally all over and now no one ever has to suffer again.
it gives the GM an excuse to pull out a big tub of Tang and splash it all over the damn place

Great part was him creating a giant, long lived humanoid who humans children, and in his words descends from the mountains to rape, murder, and enslave 'children'.

He had a friend play this guy, but didn't tell him the giant nonhuman part. Just the "you're going down to kill children" part.

>>
>>45335023
The thing about evangelion is that we're all a tiny piece of god seperated by a barrier of fear that lets us maintain a seperate ego.

I guess drinking enough might degrade the barrier enough to return you, or just combine multiple souls so you can begin to affect the world with your AT field, as if you'd eaten the fruit of life.
>>
>>45335033
Don't waste too much body fluid anon, it's important to stay hydrated.

>>45335037
It sounds like you might just restart humanity if you eat the fruit of life. Or if you could affect the world maybe you'd be able to make yourself a personal paradise at the expense of people's souls.

Or nothing could happen at all and you'd just end up feeling a little sick
>>
>>45335056
Uh, no.

The fruit of life and the fruit of knowledge are two of (3-7) possible types of "Seed of Life" that were scattered by the First Ancestral Race. The fruit of knowledge created Lilim(Human)-like life, thousands of tiny beings seperate from one. Although humanity and our ecosystem were an accident that Lilith would wipe.

The fruit of knowledge creates bizarre alien titans who can warp the world to their whim with only the force of their soul. They are gods. Sort of. Humanity can restart itself any time it chooses to leave the perfection of the unitary being it has become, one soul at a time. Stop asking questions. You're arousing my inner autist.

Ahh, I didn't know that much about NGE. I'm somewhat of a new viewer, I've only seen it once last year around October. I've been meaning to give it a second watch.

Thank you for enlightening me Anon, I'll marathon it sometime again.

Where do you think Rei went after 2.22? Do you think there's a possibility that Q/4.44 could have a happy ending or would it just be Third Impact all over again?
>>
>>45335101
Personally, I'd say she's in the tape-deck. Her soul, anyway. Her body probably sublimated away, given her genetic basis as Yui, along with Shinji. Shinji was reformed in 3.33, at a guess (or not, who knows? Asuka and Mari didn't age). Her soul was probably crammed into something that meant something to both Shinji and Rei, instead of it returning to Lilith. I'd say it's in the tapedeck.

Thank you anon, I never thought about the tapedeck.
I think that, they didn't age due to "The Curse of EVA" or something. But who knows? This has only left me scratching my head even more.

It is time to sleep, thank you for showing me different avenues. I hope that the rest of your day goes well and that you are able to sleep soundly when you finally lay down.
>>
>>45335176
The curse of Eva was originally ritsuko's way of pointing out how it destroyed everyone who came into contact with it, and through her, Anno's greatest point of the deconstruction, that miserable dribbling cunt. We don't really know. It might be the manifestation of their AT field, since their evangelions are clones of Adam rather than Lilith. It might be the magic of methamphetamine, which I presume they all smoke 24/7. It might be quantum fuckery, it might be cloned replacements, it might be Anno giving the fans a hueg middle finger, his favorite trick.

If it has to be D&D? Hidetaka Miyazaki. I'd find it interesting to see how much of that Souls feel he could really get into a game, though the system would surely do him no favors.

If it doesn't have to be D&D though? Kigitsu Katsuhisa, for sure. I love me some black humor, and he'd run a lovely Nechronica game. Fran would make for the best necromancer.

>Implying Tolkien wasn't a linguist first, and a writer far-second.
>Implying Tolkien's work had DEPTH, which is closely related to, but isn't quite the same as DETAIL
>Implying Tolkien was a good writer at all, in general

But to answer your question, OP, I'm going to kind of cheat on the question.

I wouldn't choose "a" person. I'd head down to my local community theater and handpick 5 or 6 of the most promising actors available, and kind of run through them, year by year.

Creative types, especially theater folk, have a natural allure for legitimate story telling. MAYBE three or four of them will be bad GM's, but even then, it'd be easy to blame it on the fact that it's their first time, and after about a year or so of DM'ing, they'd mostly get settled right in and become very good at their jobs.

They'll learn from each other quickly and pick up what to do, and what not to do. They'll compete with each other, because theater folk are also a competitive people.

They'll lay up late at night, thinking of the best settings, the best NPCs, the best silly accents to pair with the best soundtracks, to pair with the best maps. They'll think to themselves "there's no way I'm letting Bill's story end up becoming better than mine", and they'll push each other to be the best.

They'll sleep, breathe, and eat DM'ing. They'll browse forums on the subway, and they'll read manuals during breakfast.

They'll throw elements from their D&D sessions into their plays, and their directors will be like "Shit, Michael. That was really unexpected, but really fucking good. Where did you learn to improv like that?" And Michael will be all "Oh, I've been teaching myself a few things lately", with a smug fucking smile on his face.

MAYBE one of them just doesn't have what it takes to be a DM. Hell, maybe all 6 of them don't, even after a year. That's okay. You fire them and head down to the theatre again, and again, and again. Every year, new recruits, every year, the best of the best.

Maybe one day, one of them will surprise you. One of the shittier actors, the one who flubbed all his lines. He'll come up to you and ask you to give him a chance with this DM'ing thing, and you say "Sure", because why not?

And one day, he pulls the most bad ass story from out of his ass, and it's the best damn thing you've ever seen.

These DM's, man.

We complain about now having the right ones all the time, but what if we could go out and scout them out, like agents looking for fresh talent?

That would motherfucking revolutionize the world of traditional gaming.

Tolkien didn't even write like that, though. There are like, two named trees in all of LotR canon not counting the Ents.

What a waste.

Let's not resort to arguments of popularity

>Even Tolkien's well established author friends didn't really like LOTR.
It's worth mentioning that C.S. Lewis, the second-most famous (if not the most famous in front of J.R.R. himself) of the group Tolkien was a part of, did like it.

I can see that campaign as being lots of fun as a sort of murderhobo-y romp with maximum edge. I'd be worried about running afoul of the guy's ego, though, he seems like a serious diva sometimes and I'm sure he'd be the type of GM to punish "moralfaggotry," at least sometimes.

He is one of my favorite actor. As a person I mean. He gave so much to charity, takes the metro etc... He has a pretty dark background also if I recall.

But it would be incomprehensible and he'd have to tie all these loose ends up in the 4th session no matter how much shoehorning he had to do.

Zun's games are a work or art....

and wandering around and beating up people until the mystery is solved is the type of plot murderhoboes goulc go with.
