I've never managed to reach that ideal. Most people I play with make such a variety of characters, we never have a similar age group or skills that really work well together.

I'd love to have a group of young people growing as a team together, or a group of veterans who refuse to settle down and lose their teeth by the fire, but it's just probably not going to happen for me.

He's literally just Mad Max, Ash from Evil Dead 2 and Conan the Barbarian with Rutger Haur's physical appearance from the movie "Flesh + Blood". Also throw dickhead, self-centered libertarian philosophy into the mix and you have Guts

He's not a particularly interesting, deep, sympathetic or even likable character . Berserk is overrated trash written for spastic, rape fetishizing edgelords. Character is a perfect example of the insecure male power fantasy.

Grmigar feels like the writers looked at good anime movies like summer wars and totoro and similar films and thought "these movies are good, and very slow paced with fuck all actually ever happening... SLOW PACING IS WHAT MAKES THEM GOOD"

And so now we've got a tv show paced like a slow movie, but without any actual justification for the slowness, it's just slow and boring for the sake of being boring because "hey, they sit around doing fucking nothing for like an hour in ever ghibli movie, so we will too" but they don't realize what the point of slow pacing is.

Sometimes I think we all need to take a step back and remind ourselves that we live in a world in which a man unironically refered to as "The Iron Hand" traveled around the world with a sick ass medieval robot hand with no greater purpose in life than to fuck shit up wherever he went and still lived to be 82.

It's shit like that that reminds me that makes me think that there is still hope for man.

Season 1's love triangle with Mako/Bolin followed by Korra eventually falling for Asami at the end of the series.

I don't begrudge them for it at all. They're teenagers and young adults- romantic relationships are going to be a part of their lives, whereas in ATLA the cast was younger, so they just toyed around with "puppy love" 'til Aang and Katara got older.

I wish. I never get that. My longest games have been one on ones. My only real fantasy experience has been shitty D&D one shots and Pathfinder Society (which is real life pickup groups). I would love to play in (or slightly less love, run) a game where the party is a group of longtime companions just exploring the world and inadvertently stopping evil wherever they find it.

My ideal fantasy game isn't Lord of the Rings, it's an SNES Final Fantasy game with a lower power level.

Honestly, I didn't mind Korra's character at all.

It was more the complete disregard for coherent plot and worldbuilding that irritated me about LoK. They start off completely throwing out a number of established details about the way bending and the Avatar work (trivializing lightningbending, metalbending, and the Avatar State), and each new season introduces some big new upheaval that feels less like sound storytelling and more like the sort of handwavey shit companies pull in the metaplot of an MMO to justify adding a new batch of game content to shake things up.

Like, when people started randomly gaining airbending powers, I could just imagine the ad pitch for the newest expansion of an MMO:
>Airbenders have been all but extinct for over 100 years, preserved only through the bloodline of Aang. But not anymore! With the upheavals in the spirit world, now you too can play as a graceful airbender! Soar through the skies with your airbender wingsuit! Leave enemies in your dust on your air scooter! Command the mighty powers of the wind to blow away those who would threaten the peace of the world!
>A whole new realm of possibilities is at your fingertips in Avatar: The MMO: Return of the Airbenders! Available now at video game stores near you!

It was just nice all-around.
The whole thing about air-benders appearing everywhere was dumb but inevitable, but it made up for it.
There was less of the whole industrial stuff, they were actually journeying around rather than sitting in one place, and the threat felt more real (Amon was nice but ultimately not really all that bad, WhatsHisFace from season 2 was just over-the-top, NotStalin same as Amon). It all made it feel more like TLOA
And like you said, the brutality too. TLOA wasn't brutal on-screen but clearly showed genocide almost-death situations and plenty of certain/implied deaths off-screen.

>>45324310
I don't think people have issue with the fact that it happened and Korra couldn't stop it, but rather with the fact that the writers went on that path to begin with.

Personally I kind of hate when too many mysteries and myths are unveiled. The mystery surrounding the Avatar and spirits really took a big hit and made it all seem so trivial.

Season 2 was just a shitshow

Aang and Korra were complete opposites. Aang wanted to live his life rather than commit to Avatar duties and preferred solving things peacefully in a world at war that needed its problems beaten into submission. Korra had nothing outside of being the Avatar and had an identity crisis looming over her head everytime her role as the Avatar is challenged, she also struggles with issues she can't just punch in the face, in a world of complicated issues and politics.

They were much better equipped to solve each other's problems.

>>
>>45324628
Sorry, I didn't meant to make it sound like Aang was shit or unrealistic or whatever, just that Korra had reasonable flaws considering her history. Aang was a great kid with a fairly healthy childhood; his only flaws was that he could be a bit overly carefree because he's still a little kid in a Saturday morning cartoon series. When they didn't go with that aangle again, /co/ deemed it shit.
>>
>>45324782
>Black tough guy looks like scowling gang member
Gotta be honest man, I think the racism here is with you, not the artist. The guy on top just looks like a regular dude to me.

His face doesn't look "scowling", he just has the hat low down to make his face generic, just like the other guy is drawn with his back to the viewer for the same purpose.

And the only thing making him look like a "gang member", aside from the color of his skin, is the tattoo on the arm, which to me comes off more as just a more general "tough guy" cue just like the other guy's camo jacket.
>>
>>45325048
I don't think she actually learned from her flaws though, and that the solution for damn near everything was to punch it in the face.
>>
>>45325048
>because he's still a little kid in a Saturday morning cartoon series
That nigga faced the realization that his entire people had faced genocide, and went through a major crisis with his ideals when he had to consider killing the firelord.
The whole carefree thing screwed him over time after time, too.

His character wasnt about being a little kid in a saturday morning cartoon series. If anything, it was the opposite of that.

To be fair, he went to Avatar Yangchen and it was the exchange with her that made him realize that he truly wasn't willing "to do what needed to be done" even if a past Airbending Avatar was. To be fair, it wasn't as clear cut as that - Aang did the weird sleep-swimming mojo that brought him to an island where he meditated, and later figured out the island was a turtle.

Personally, I liked it - just the idea that the Avatar wasn't the end all be all of knowledge, but merely had an accumulation of experience. Some things were still outside their collective grasp, and still needed to be taught, and many of the previous avatars weren't particularly worried about taking a truly evil life.

Aang was probably unique in his complete unwillingness to kill- even other Airbenders probably weren't liable to take that risk and would have gone for the pragmatic choice. Like Yangchen, she believed her duties as the Avatar had precedence over her duties as an Air Nomad.

I mean, unless the Avatar cycle has been going on for like 3000+ years, in which case you probably had another couple of pure pacifists like Aang.

>pic somewhat related: Aang's polar opposite in moral ideology

FONV has a mod perk for it.

Granted it requires you to mod in the system that introduces horniness into the game, which is just an addon to a very extensive bunch of mods that turn the whole thing into a porn game.

That utility and versatility is rather more limited when you're talking not about explosions in general, but rather THE Explosion spell. Which is where Megumin's devotions really lie.

There are probably any number of lesser explosive-type spells and mundane explosives she could be using, but she only cares about Explosion. Anything lesser is beneath her standards.

Shit I made the cardinal sin of mixing up ghibli with miyazaki because I'm a fuckup. Anyways what I meant is that they tried to pace a meh tier show like it's a god tier movie. But amazing anime movies with slow pacing have justification for that pacing, grimgar just kind of feels like they want it to be comfy instead of exciting because the scenes where stuff actually HAPPENS are really cool, the fight scenes were really enjoyable, but they feel like they're being skipped past. Like the writers are trying to say "yeah yeah we're trying to talk about the OTHER parts of adventuring".

But the art is awesome and that intro song is great so I'm sticking with it.

Louise's thing is that she CAN'T cast anything other than explosions.

Megumin is perfectly capable of casting whatever spell she put her mind to; she simply CHOOSES not to even so much as learn anything other than THE Explosion spell, the strongest destructive spell in the world.
Because literally her entire race is chuuni.

Still amounts to Louise casting Explosion at every opportunity no matter how inappropriate.
>>
>>45329707
Not really, because she doesn't -- or rather, CAN'T -- just cast it at every opportunity for slapstick humor. It has a long casting time, is fucking huge and destructive (there is no small-scale mode, it's "nuke a whole army" or nothing), and she can only use it once per day (and collapses from exhaustion afterward).

This isn't "lol explosions", this is a glass cannon with only one (absurdly strong) shot and literally nothing else -- for no other reason than that she chooses to be that way.
>>
>>45330032
We need the scene right after >>45328642 to demonstrate the point.
