Very welcome to newcomers to both Hackmaster and tabletops in general. It's a new game will run in the same setting as another group that I'm currently GMing, but I have a proper date system setup in-game, and the 'primary objectives' are going to be different so the risk of clashing directly is minimized. It's similar to AD&D but the system has a very vast skill system.

I have all of the Zealot's Guide books so all the extra classes are playable as well. All the books will be provided by me in case you don't already have one. Setting is in Tellene from the books, and the campaign will take place in The Wild Lands which is basically the fantasy equivalent of Scandinavia.

Contrary to the name of the system, the game will be roleplay-heavy. Combat is always an option of course, but combat in this game has a very high risk in terms of how long it takes to regenerate wounds and such, though Clerics can mitigate that to some degree. Don't expect this to be a dungeoncrawler or anything, because more often than not, sessions end without having as much as a single combat encounter.

I recommend not posting as a player because it always looks really desperate, and it's functionally useless. If a GM wants players they post in the thread and filters shitters via email.

These threads are filled with disgruntled people who can't find games shitposting over the dumbest things. The actual quality of games you can get in is much higher than what the thread may make you believe.

Things to remember:

-ERP stands for erotic roleplay
-If you're a girl or have a ladylike voice avoid going straight into a random voice game because there's a big chance without a sense for who might be a fucking weirdo that you'll have a VERY bad time
-The most popular systems are: D&D 3.5/Pathfinder and D&D 5e, if you find a GM of either that has no weird gimmic for the game continously trying to find players for more than a week there's probably a reason
-If a GM makes a post with what looks like cropped porn you might be walking into ERP in disguise
-Don't join a voice game as a text player and don't join a text game as a voice player.

The Victorian game uses a d10-based successes system. Health is divided into pools, and as you lose health you suffer penalties, and characters are given points to create their characters. There are soft classes, where certain character options lead to and combine well with others to form a class-like character, but it's not like D&D.

The Magic System is tied much closer to the card game and has mechanics resembling it, such as power, toughness, life, etc.

You need to constantly keep in touch with your players or the game is probably going to fall apart. Games where everyone simply shows up on game day, then everyone vanishes as soon as it's over simply don't last. All my best groups have been the ones where everybody is shitposting together throughout the week and talking about things other than just the game itself. It's a social hobby, so if you actually socialize you have a much better chance of forming a solid group.

You probably won't get that group on your first try though. With online games you run into a lot of flakes and bad players and you often won't notice the signs right away. Eventually you'll single out the people you like and end up forming a good regular group with them, and they'll probably know some people they can also invite.

If you have trouble picking up regular players for a group it might be a good idea to just run some one shots and mass recruit for them. It's better than wasting your time setting up entire campaigns just for people to fuck your shit up.

I've never used google hangouts or roll20. I defaulted to teamspeak because I don't like skypes system of starting chats. I want a server that's not attached to anyone "hosting" the chat so that people don't have to worry about inviting people to start chats and shit. If I'm hanging out at my computer I could easily just be in the teamspeak server and people could check in and hang out there even during not session times. Plus it seems easy if you need to whisper or something you can just move into a separate channel and stuff. I prefer chatting on client based applications than any sort of web based chat.

If he's around; it would be nice for Sam R from Roll20 to get on board with the GrimWyrd campaign!

It's a very traditional tabletop in terms of design philosophy. Classes and races are varied, though there is some heavy bias in favor of Clerics which has many many different churches, most of whom function completely different from eachother.
Combat is time-based, so everything is counted in seconds rather than turns.
Armors give Damage Reduction but lower Defense (to get hit) depending on how much DR it has. For example, Leather has 2 Damage Reduction and -2 Defense, whereas Plate has 6 Damage Reduction and -6 defense.
Attack rolls are standard d20 + modifiers, and the defense is d20 + modifiers. However, most playable races not wielding shields have a -4 on their defense, but other races have natural defense to compensate instead.
Skills are highly varied, giving many different non-combat areas to specialize in. You purchase rolls in them which goes towards your total mastery. The higher your mastery, the easier it is to clear a challenge within that area obviously. There are a few variations on how it works, such as opposing rolls requiring you to roll high, and standard rolls requiring you to roll low.
