>Fortunately, it doesn't look like Irene -or- Allison heard her say that just now.
"Yeah, okay," I say to her. "But shouldn't it be a-"
"Talk to you about it later," Theresa replies, cutting me off. She must really not want them to know what she's up to.
Theresa then hurries over to the door and propels herself through the door... just as Charlotte's trying to get back in. They barely avoid slamming right into each other.
"Umm-" Wide-eyed, Charlotte stares at her. "Sorry, I didn't know that you were-"
"It's fine," Theresa shakes her head repeatedly. "See you later!"
And with that, she ducks out of the room and down the stairs.
>my father stuff
>charlotte's father stuff
She might be fucking a nigger who has herpes and syphilis and shit on his dick. So her ass is cleaner than his dick, thus justifying her standards.
Why Lori would be fucking some jiggaboo, I have no idea. Hypothetical situations don't have to make sense.
"Er..." Charlotte looks out the door, "...she seems to be in quite the rush there."
"Yeah," I shrug.
"Apparently she's going to go snooping around for clues about where Faceless is going to hit next," Irene says.
And the look on her face as she says that is decidedly less cheerful than I'm used to seeing.
"I can't believe that you all are fine with this," Allison says, shaking her head. "All this crazy shit happens and Theresa runs out to spy on people like this is some kind of daily happening...
With a long, exasperated groan, Allison walks over to her bed and falls on it.
"Sorry for dragging you into all this, Allison..." Irene says.
"Whatever, I'm used to it," Allison replies, her voice muffled by her mattress. "So what're the rest of you lesbos gonna do now? Wait for Theresa?"
"I honestly don't know," she says as she walks over to the window to watch Theresa walk down the sidewalk.
I guess it's up to me to try and change the subject.
>ask the charlotte what her father's up to
>ask the charlotte if her father could help us dig up info on faceless
>ask the charlotte if her father could help us dig up info on faceless
Talk to Daddy Navarre about branchstuff and not getting in danger (but actually getting into danger a lot)
I don't know if that counts too much. There's been plenty of cases of dudes who liked a tranny and then found out they were guys and couldn't get over the mental disconnect.
Just because you're attracted to a person (especially if they show qualities of the gender you're usually attracted to) doesn't mean you are gay/lesbian.
Won't deny that she'll probably become some super repressed oujo because she is so adamant about her leanings despite hardly understanding them.
Depends. Seems like Gabby is just swooning and it's puppy love. Assuming that things work out that way then I can see a ton of issues with Andro-Theresa (Andresa) actually getting that far.
Charlotte not objecting to a relationship with a 5 year gap.
G-Man not castrating every guy that spends more than 15 minutes within conversation range of Gabby.
Andresa having his alt-personality go "Oh fuck that, I want Tits McGee and CC"
The entire U.S. Judicial System
And every single power ranger (except for the 4th gen, because they sucked).
Eh, I'd approve of a relationship with an 18 year gap so whatev. Moralfags gonna moralfag.
Why the Judicial system have to be such a narc? Can't have drugs, can't have fireworks, can't have loli, can't have nigger minstrels. What's next, they gonna outlaw rock and roll?
Socially acceptable = literally memes and buzzwords
Morally acceptable = can enjoy sex and then NOT get all offended/hurt feels/asspain about it later.
So basically the age of consent is anything BELOW 30.
"Hey Charlotte," I say, turning to her, "any news on what your father's been up to?"
"Huh?" Charlotte blinks a few times. "Er..."
Charlotte closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.
"Apparently Gabrielle called him up right after you talked to her and told him every last detail about what happened here," Charlotte says. "And I guess she sounded frantic enough to really set him off."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" I ask.
"Let's just say that Faceless is lucky that he didn't try and pull this garbage while Mr. Gauthier was actually around to deal with him in person."
Knowing how Charlotte is and how low Irene's opinion of her father is, I can't imagine the results of such a scenario being anything other than horrifically bloody.
The only difference I can find is that you put a fullstop after "Mr" in this one, but not in the previous one.
You didn't accidentally call Charlotte Cecile, or fumble your sentence structure and pronouns. or mis-spell Faceless.
"He told me that he's going to be asking around businessmen and other upper class-types in this city to see if Faceless has left any calling cards," Charlotte says. "Hopefully that'll be enough of a clue as to figure out his next move..."
"He typically only hits one place per night unless the locations are close-by," Irene says, "so you should probably be safe for tonight at least."
"......" Charlotte stares at her for a few seconds.
"What?" she crosses her arms. "You're not the only one who's in the middle of looking up information on Faceless sightings."
>isn't that kind of dangerous in your position?
>let the irene do as the irene does
I'm heading to bed, but I have an end-of-thread question.
How does Irene handle sleep deprivation? It has some notable physical effects, but primarily effects mental performance. Since she operates on a hivemind by what metric is she graded? Does only 1 copy have to be in a good state? A majority? All of them? Will she be sleepy if literally all of her instances are exhausted?
Though I dunno how good an idea it is for Irene to be investigating stuff that's going on in this city while her bosses still don't know that one of her is still here, I'll just leave that to her judgement and not butt in. Besides, she's only doing this to help me.
"Remember what I said about fighting in here," Allison groans out from her place sprawled out on her bed.
"...sorry," Irene lowers her head.
Of course Charlotte continues to act like she didn't do anything wrong.
"Umm, Irene?" I turn to her. "Did you find anything else out?"
"Nothing yet," Irene replies. "I did tell the cops to call me if they get any reports though."
"You do know that that'll only be of help if he doesn't end up hitting another place where stolen merchandise is kept, right?" Charlotte asks.
Crap, she's right. The cops got involved at that mansion from before because of the arson but I dunno if they would've even been called if it was just the paintings that were stolen.
"Well yeah," Irene rolls her eyes, "I'm just trying to cover all of our bases here."
"Irene can take care of the official stuff and your old man can take care of the shady black market stuff," Allison mumbles. "And maybe together you'll be able to rescue Cecile's cactus and then I'll take you to a bar to celebrate."
>charlotte's underage and irene can't get drunk
>don't spoil allison's fun
>Also, I realized if we had the Blood Witch, mister Faceless could be rather easy to deal with.
Just need to get close to him and it's over. Guaranteed not to attempt an escape.
I guess telepathic mind control branch would make it even easier, since they'd probably just need to see him to end him.
"Charlotte's underage, you know," I say.
"And so am I," Allison replies. "That's what fake IDs are for."
Yeah, I give up.
"You don't get one though," Allison says, "'cuz Daddy would kill me if he found out that I was helping turn you into a delinquent."
"Very funny," I grumble.
Just when that conversation that I eavesdropped on was about to slip my mind...
>go to ask him about things before getting the others involved
>tell the others about what I heard before talking to him
"Speaking of Daddy," I say, "I, uh... I was kinda eavesdropping on him earlier."
"That's a bad habit, you know," Allison replies while rolling over onto her back. "You might hear something that you can't unhear."
"You are the LAST person I want to hear that from, pervert," I snap back.
"So says the screamer."
"This is coming from the person with a-"
"OKAY that's enough of that!" Irene says, raising her voice louder than I've ever heard it. "This is a no-fighting zone, remember?"
"Meh," Allison replies.
After giving us a few seconds to calm back down, Irene turns to me.
"I'm going to assume that you heard your father talking about something that we'd want to know about?" she asks.
"Yeah," I nod. "I heard him talking to someone on the phone about Faceless," I say.
"Eh?" Irene furrows her brow. "Like... in what way?"
"It sounded like he had someone looking into him," I reply with a shrug. "And the name of that Mafia guy I-"
Whoops, better not let that slip in front of Allison.
"...he mentioned him by name," I say. "Something about revenge against me, I dunno."
"Ugh," Irene places a hand to her forehead. "He was really mad last night after what happened so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised."
"He didn't mention anything about Branches, did he?" Charlotte asks.
"Not that I heard," I shake my head, "but he did mention seeing the pictures of..." I trail off. "...you know."
"Well that's just -wonderful-," she groans.
>do you think I should tell him that I heard him talking about it
>do you think I should tell him about branches
"God damn it," Allison groans as she flips herself back upright. "This's gonna end up just like that time he got arrested..."
"Wait, what?" Irene darts her gaze between us. "what happened?"
"Our father gets VERY violent when he thinks that we're in danger. Like, to the point where he doesn't care about consequences."
"Doesn't sound too different from mine," Charlotte smirks.
"Yeah, but -their- father isn't a dangerous Branch holder," Irene snaps at her. "Nothing good can come from him getting involved in this without knowing a thing about it."
"Umm, do you think that I should tell him about Branches?" I ask.
"Absolutely not!" both of them shout in unison.
"For real," Allison says, shaking her head like I just said the dumbest thing in the world. "You know damned well that the first thing he'd do is try and get one of those books that gave you your powers."
"It's more likely that he'd out your family into debt paying for a Gardener's services," Irene says, an uncharacteristic scowl on her face.
"And then he'd run off and get himself killed," Allison says.
I am happy for Theresa since she winded up with this rather than Ms.Can't keep secrets.
It's ok, so long as we don't suddenly blurt out "well Theresa has a book so there's that problem solved lol" then it's ok.
"...yeah," I mumble, "that does sound like what he'd do."
"That is EXACTLY what he'd do," Allison says. "Provided he didn't an aneurysm first from finding out that his favorite daughter can shoot fucking LASERS."
"Okay, okay," I sigh. "I get it. No telling Daddy."
>but I'm still going to at least talk to him about what I heard
>better play dumb about the phonecall too
>It's ok, so long as we don't suddenly blurt out
erm, it would kinda imply that we blatantly lied to her face about helping her find one and if she finds out we handed it to Mr. Gauthier, her like sworn enemy, that might not go down that well.
Scientific research has actually found that, while they may not admit it, the mother's favorite is usually the oldest son and the father's is the youngest daughter. Plus Allison isn't exactly miss perfect, what with the serial boyfriends, underage drinking, and so on.
You know, with all of this Allison calling the others lesbo, it would have been hilarious if she got her own branch and the alter ego also turned out to be a lesbo.
And CC agreed with her by not saying anything
Allison must have daddy issues
>>It's ok, so long as we don't suddenly blurt out
>erm, it would kinda imply that we blatantly lied to her face about helping her find one and if she finds out we handed it to Mr. Gauthier, her like sworn enemy, that might not go down that well.
Irene put the pieces together a while back. You can thank Gauthier for that.
Cecile is their father's favorite while Allison is their mother's favorite.
their parents both deny having favorites but it's been common knowledge to both of them for pretty much all their lives
>I'll try and get back to this thread
It's only been 5 hours, OP will surely deliver.
"I'm still gonna talk to him about what I heard though," I say. "If only to keep him to keep from doing something stupid. Again."
"I guess you probably should," Allison says, heaving a sigh. "I have no idea what you'd even bring up the subject though."
Ugh, that is a good point. I dunno if I can really just walk in and go "Hi Daddy I was eavesdropping on you and blah blah blah" without getting an earful myself.
"Sorry," Irene says, "I'd try and take care of it myself but I'm still pretty much a stranger here."
"It's fine," I reply, shaking my head. "This is technically my fault to begin with."
>might as well take care of it now
>I'd rather do something else first
I'm just wondering how she's sitting like that. Something is fishy with the perspective. Is she standing and leaning into the seat of the chair? Is the seat slanted at an angle? Does she have an extra set of joints in her thighs? Are her hips like 10 inches tall on their own?
Yeah, this is my fault. And because it's my fault. it's also my responsibility to at least TRY and keep my family out of the danger that I've gotten myself into as best I can.
"Might as well take care of it now," I say as I make my way towards the door.
"Cecile?" Charlotte calls out. "do you need me to go with you?"
"Eh," I shrug.
>the cecile walks alone
>bring the charlotte
>the cecile walks alone
Seems like it's very much family stuff that papa may not feel comfortable saying in front of Charlotte.
That being said if we fuck this one up it could be worth dragging her in to explain to him how he should be careful since he's digging into messy rich people stuff.
We're like 130 threads late for that one...I think.
Although Arch seemed to imply he isn't running a hard route-lock in this quest. Moreso the "You'll fuck over a ton of relationships if you commit then swap".
"I'll be fine by myself," I say to Charlotte. "Thanks for offering, though."
"...if you say so," Charlotte mumbles.
"Just be careful what you tell him," Allison says. "'Cuz you know how he can get."
"Yeah, I know," I groan.
With a firm resolve to be cautious, I leave my sister's room and make my way back down the hall to our parents' room. And as I go, I can hear Allison kicking Irene and Charlotte out... I was wondering how long it'd take before that happened.
But I have other things to worry about so I ignore it and continue on my way.
>how the hell do I even bring up the subject though?
Just as I'm about to knock on the door, it swings open and I find myself face-to-face with my mother. Not exactly the parent who I was looking for.
"Umm, hey," I say.
After an awkward silence that seems to last way longer than it actually does, I find myself pulled into her arms.
"I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you last night..." she says while holding onto me for dear life. "I can't believe I slept through all that commotion!"
"It's fine," I mumble. "At least one of us got some sleep last night."
"My poor little girl..."
Although my glasses are pushed into my eye and the entire side of my face is mashed against her chest thanks to the weird way that she's hugging me, I let her keep on hugging me until she's had enough.
"You've gone through so much lately..." she says, finally letting me go.
Dammit, and now she's tearing up.
"First with the kidnapping and then Allison got attacked and now this," Mom says, wiping her eyes. "If we knew that all this was going to happen then we would've took you with us to California when we took that job."
"Eh-" I flinch. "Y- you're not gonna-"
"No," she slowly shakes her head, "but your father's starting to really want to."
"Great," I mutter under my breath. "Is he still in there? I actually came over here because I wanted to bug him about something."
"This is a father-daughter thing?"
"Yeah, sorry," I say.
"I understand..." Mom pouts. "I guess I'll go ahead and give you two some privacy."
Mom ruffles my hair as she walks past me and starts down the hall.
"Oh-" she snaps her fingers and stops walking. "Cecile?"
"Yeah?" I turn back to face her.
"If this is about girl troubles then you should probably remember that yours truly -does- happen to be a gir-"
"IT ISN'T GIRL PROBLEMS," I groan.
"Okay, just making sure!" she says, giggling like someone a third of her age.
Thankfully, she then continues down the stairs without me having to force her to go away.
A feeling of unease hits me as I walk into my parents' room. With my mother having successfully been chased off, there's nobody in here but me and him and not even much in the area of background noise aside from the steady rapid sound of my father's fingers tapping against the screen of his phone. He must be in the middle of texting someone.
"Daddy?" I call out.
No response, he's completely engrossed in his phone.
>get his attention
>wait for him to finish
>wait for him to finish
I mean, the only situation where this really bites us is if he's literally texting, "Your money is being wired, I want you to hunt down this bastard" to some Blade motherfucker.
Otherwise it can seem pretty rude and entitled to demand his time when we're trying to keep him calm and stop him from overreacting.
My first thought is to steal the light in front of his phone. But since I can't exactly do that without revealing that I have superpowers, I settle for the next best thing and flick the lightswitch on and off a few times.
"Okay Jeanette," Daddy says in a voice that's closer to a grunt than anything, "what'd you w-"
When he sees that I am in fact -not- my mother, he lets out a long, tired sigh.
"You know you two have the same bad habits?" he asks.
"It wouldn't be fair if I only inherited -your- bad traits," I reply.
"I'm gonna assume that you wanted to get my attention," he says while pointing at the light.
"Yup," I nod.
"So what is it?" he asks. "girl problems?"
Why the hell does everyone think that I'm having relationship problems!? Aside from how jealous Charlotte can get, she's pretty much the PERFECT girlfriend!
"NO IT ISN'T GIRL PROBLEMS," I growl.
"Hey," he laughs, "just making sure."
Okay, me. Time to bite the bullet.
"I, uh..." I cough. "A little while ago I kind of overheard you talking on the phone about some stuff."
"Exactly what -kind- of stuff did you hear me talking about?" he asks.
>how do I respond?
>Stuff related to the mafia and the break-in.
>Look, if they're just trying to steal my cacti then I don't think it's worth you getting hurt over.
>Calm down and see if things work themselves out first. Please?
"Some stuff about the break-in," I say, "...and the mafia."
"Shit," he grits his teeth. "Look, I know that it might sound bad but that guy-"
"The mafia is DANGEROUS," I say, cutting him off. "And I don't want my father to end up getting killed over a cactus."
Breathing a long sigh, Daddy gets up from the stool he was sitting on and walks over to me.
"I know that it must sound kind of scary to hear me mentioning the mafia after what you went through," he says, "but believe me when I say that I'm not trying to go and get myself killed."
"......" I stare at him. "You don't have the best track record here."
"Just because I mentioned them doesn't mean-"
"I've heard Charlotte mention that stuff when she talks about her father," I cut him off again, "but it's a lot different when -you- say it," I say, pointing at him. "So could you please calm down and see if things can maybe work out on their own first?"
Aaaaand now he looks just as grim as he did last night. I really hope I didn't set him off even worse...
"You said that -Charlotte- mentioned this stuff before?" he asks.
>how do I respond?
Can we please not
Just mention that her dad is a businessman and has had to avoid the mob or hire investigators before, and it came up with Charlotte after the kidnapping
It takes me a few seconds to gather my thoughts and come up with some sort of excuse that doesn't blatantly incriminate both of us in pretty much EVERYTHING that we've done over the past few months.
"Umm, yeah?" I say.
Great job, Cecile!
"Cecile's dad is a businessman and he's had to avoid the mob and hire investigators and that kind of thing before," I say.
"Is that so," Daddy says, crossing his arms over his chest.
Sometimes I forgot how intimidating he is.
"It came up after that whole mess when we got kidnapped," I mumble.
"...hm." He nods his head. "Did you happen to ever -meet- any of these so-called 'investigators?'"
>not unless you count charlotte
>does kevin count?
"Does Kevin count?" I say, shrugging.
"Wha?" My father lowers his sunglasses and stares me in the eye. "Allison's boyfriend?"
"Yeah," I nod. "It turned out that he's one of Charlotte's father's friends. He's the one who Gabrielle's staying with while she's in town, too."
It looks like he just got slapped.
"Y... you're serious?" Daddy says. "And you don't find this the least bit suspicious?"
"It's a weird coincidence, yeah," I shrug, "but it's nothing worth worrying about."
"I should've known..." he mutters to himself as he paces around the room. "of course it was too good to wish for that Allison actually ended up with someone who didn't seem like an absolute piece of shit..."
it knows the doubt that you ought to have
you could learn from the one that sired you
>"I should've known..." he mutters to himself as he paces around the room. "of course it was too good to wish for that Allison actually ended up with someone who didn't seem like an absolute piece of shit..."
I am so happy for Theresa she didn't wind up with us.
I stomp my foot and grab my father by the wrist.
"Hey," I say, scowling at him. "Kevin's the one who ended up finding us when we broke out of that mafia hideout. AND he saved Allison when that guy attacked them a few weeks ago. I thought he was just another creep at first too but he's actually a really nice guy."
"So quit assuming the worst of everyone!"
Completely taken aback at the way I just yelled at him, it takes Daddy a little while to recover his usual composure.
Crap. Crap crap crap crap CRAP I just yelled at my father! What if he gets super pissed at me and grounds me or kicks Irene out for being a freeloader or-
"You really have grown up since the last time I saw you..." he says, breathing a heavy sigh. "Now you're just as good as your mother is at making me feel like an absolute asshole."
"Eh?" I blink a few times. "You're not mad at me?"
"Like I said, I was being an ass," he says, shaking his head. "A paranoid ass."
"At least you didn't end up arrested this time," I mumble, remembering the last one of Allison's boyfriends that he got really mad at.
"I -do- still think that it's suspicious that her boyfriend just happens to know your girlfriend's father though."
"Allison met him before I even knew who Charlotte was," I reply, shaking my head.
The paranoia is quick to come back with him...
"And they've been going out way before me and Charlotte got together," I say.
"Alright, I get it," he groans. "He's off the hook."
"But after what happened to the people who kidnapped you two..."
>I already know about that
"Yeah. I already know about that," I say. "That asshole got what was coming to him."
"Putting aside your choice in language," Daddy replies, lowering his sunglasses so I can tell that he's glaring at me, "...you know about what happened there?"
"Some shootout between rival gangs or whatever, right?" I shrug. "Me and Charlotte got out like right before it started."
"Jesus Christ..." he shakes his head. "The cops didn't show you the pictures, did they?"
"No?" I shrug like I don't know what he's talking about.
But that image is permanently burnt into my memory. And it gets less and less disturbing every time I think about it.
"Consider yourself lucky that you -didn't- see them," Daddy says, grimacing.
"You mean you did?"
"Yeah," he nods. "And according to a source of mine, Charlotte's father... David Gauthier, he used what happened there to threaten some group that he has beef with. And I'm not just being paranoid when I say this- Charlotte and Gabrielle both seem like sweet girls and I know you love them but you need to be VERY careful about getting too involved with their family. Okay?"
>how do I respond?
>but you need to be VERY careful about getting too involved with their family. Okay?
>Over shit that WE did.
I feel kind of really bad about the way -my- father's throwing all this suspicion on -Charlotte's- father for stuff that -I- did. And while it is a relief that he's not trying to make me break up with her or anything, warning me about not getting close with her family is-
"'Involved' with her family?" I repeat.
It's feeling kind of warm in here all of a sudden.
"I- I mean I love Charlotte with all my heart and if she was to like... ask me to m-"
I can't even say it out loud!
"Hold up hold up hold up hold up." Daddy rests his hands on my shoulders. "Even if you're gonna completely disregard what I -just- said, you're still only sixteen years old and it's WAY too early for you to be thinking about that stuff."
"...yeah, I guess you're right..."
Still sounds nice though. Really nice.
"And to bring the subject back to how all this mafia shit is DANGEROUS," Daddy says, clearing his throat, "I also heard something about the guy who busted into your room."
And suddenly it's like all that giddiness was never there.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"From what Irene's said, it was some masked art burglar who did it," he says. "And according to another source of mine, this same 'Faceless' was known to have run jobs for the leader of the group who kidnapped you and Charlotte."
A chill hits me.
"I know it sounds crazy," he says, "but he might've targeted you as some sort of bizarre revenge plot. And if that's true then Charlotte might end up getting targeted next since she was also involved in it."
>how do I respond?
It's fiiiiiiine, if his idea of revenge is stealing a cactus then he can't be that threatening right? I'll make sure Charlotte is extra careful and everything will be fine.

Ending the thread here, folks. Sorry for all the slowness in this one, I had a real bitch of a time trying to force myself back into writing mode.
Think I'll be taking a break from questan next week to recharge my batteries, so to speak.
and now questions.
Depending on how hard he insists on investigating this stuff, dad would probably be safer if he had a branch of his own. Now, if this were Allison or mom trying to butt in I'd be against it, since it's not like they could do much more than the current cast can, but he seems like he'd be capable enough with it.
Having a branch could REALLY backfire. There's bound to be a branch that turns him into the Hulk, Quicksilver, Juggernaut, Forget-me-not or give him some other power with a huge drawback. And that's not even mentioning what the voice in his head could do with him.
Yeah, it could, but him meddling in branch mafia shit IS going to backfire, especially if he doesn't know what he's getting into and without any kind of weapon or leverage of his own.
There's a difference between could and will.
>How does Irene handle sleep deprivation?
Better than normal people, though it's still a concern.
>It has some notable physical effects, but primarily effects mental performance. Since she operates on a hivemind by what metric is she graded?
Every instance of Irene has her own sleep requirements, just like anyone else. Fatigue is felt when she doesn't get enough, though the mental effects are much slower to manifest thanks to the way that her mind works.
>Does only 1 copy have to be in a good state? A majority? All of them? Will she be sleepy if literally all of her instances are exhausted?
In general, her thoughts won't become muddled but she's still in danger of passing the hell out. But if a majority of her instances are sleep-deprived, even the ones that are fully-rested will feel the mental effects.

The quest takes place in 2014 and the federal ruling wasn't until 2015.

This is the major risk.

Yup, he would've been more of an issue to deal with had you ended up with Theresa.
And now I sleep. Thanks for playing!
