What is Nechronica? It's a Japanese RPG where the players are undead little girls in a world that somehow went to hell. To help them survive, they have either guns, cybernetic enhancements, or horrendous mutations. They also have the emotion bonds with their sisters, the other player characters, which will be strained to the point where self-mutilation and other such things become common.

Instead of health points, characters get parts blown off their body in combat, gradually wearing them down till they're a leg, or a gun or just a mouth. Combined with a timing system that makes heavy use of counter play, it offers a unique combat system that would be hard to replicate in other settings.

I'm gonna bump the thread, just because it's fun to hear people(who've played) talk about this game...
>>
I will also bump, becauso some Dnonymous said he would update the pdf, and I expect deliverance.
>>
I will bump too, because I like non-standard rpgs. Plus excellent battlefield system.

If a thread is just bumps, shouldn't it just get scrubbed. Obviously no-one gives a shit.

Fuck yes the nechronica thread is back !!

Awesome.
Can we build more dolls plz.

And i need help to lrn2 be a DM. Because I have no idea where to even start.

Also, in other news; would nechronica be nicer/better with miniatures? Would they be even necessary outside of the combat thing?

and more art plz, it's really good.
>>
>>44989257
Well, what do you like about it?
>>
>>44990102
it's simple.
d10 where a 5+ is win, a 4 or less is fail.
Then add modifiers as the DM sees fit.

All games go intro - battle - outtro
So there's fun and excitement of a weaboo anime with undead dolls with various weapons and bloodshed.

No srsly, what's not to like?
>>
>>44989944
>more art plz
Look up Hetza, he's the dude that made the picture in the OP and the one whose art keeps circulating around when people bring up Nechronica.

As long as you can use the battlemap and have something to mark shit you're golden. They are only really used for combat, unless you want to do a fancy map or some shit.

6+ for success actually. And an end result of 1 or less is a crit fail and 11+ is a success, which means there are no natural crits on either end.

I appreciate being remembered.
I'm still working on it, but progress was slow without people equally and more familiar with the system to run my current version by.

Here's something very questionable I've worked up. Parts have one more field than skills, so it's hard getting it into the same size, or just getting to look good and similar to skills.
I also have to make sure what it says is clear to people picking up the PDF.

I love Nechronica, but I keep struggling to adapt my sense of scale to understand what bonuses are good. I'm too used to a +1 being relatively insignificant.

>>45002737

Getting a constant +1 to things is always good. It effectively makes it that you can't crit-fail without someone using a hinder on you and means you can get a critical success without using a support.

>>44990102
The battlefield being a ladder. It's an excellent abstraction but still allows for well-defined ranges and abilities. Other systems I've seen with abstracted distances were far worse (edge of the empire for example, where things that can mean life or death are entirely vague and left to your appreciation constantly). Plus it fits the weaboo vibe.

No, it's not. Just last session, our group got some hot chocolate and played a board game! Admittedly, before that, one person lost a head and another lost over 50% of their body, but that's just a thing that happens.
>>
>>45007533

Hey, don't forget that said person who lost her head (to an AT rifle tearing it clean off) then immediately had a swarm of bitey baseball-spider monsters jump on her, where one landed on her neck and then posed as her new head.

Also not to be forgotten are having friendly attack zombies on your side that don't actually do anything because the girl with four chainsaws and a matching amount of arms jumped screaming into the enemy mob, leaving everyone else to freak out and chase her and, coincidentally, forget to tell their ally zombies to help them out.

That whole fight would have probably gone a lot better if that hadn't happened, honestly.

>>45010666
Sure, I don't mind. Although I don't think anybody needs experience to rolepay. I'm fine with having complete newbies in my games, and Nechronica is one of the simpler, easier systems out there. Email me at the address in the game finder thread.

Oh, wow, I sent an email pretty much the exact moment you posted because I thought posting as a player was a dumb idea after all. Anyway, sent.
>>
>>45009384

What's your house rules, out of curiosity?
>>
>>45012762
They seem to be fairly standard house rules, I just took 'em from the other thread (although they do make sense).

1) I am adding the following text to Chain Attacks: "Additional attacks from Chain Attacks do not benefit from damage bonuses." This helps curb a combination like Meat Snake/Horn doing a possible 12-16 damage in a round with Meat Snake/Horn/Gauntlet/Baroque's Super Strength/Romanesque's Dance of Death and the T3 Mutation/Enhancement skill from whichever you choose.

2) I am changing the text of One's Many Charms to say the following text: "The cost of your Basic Parts for your "Arms" and "Legs" locations decreases by 1 (to a minimum of 0.)". Reducing all Arms/Legs parts AP by 1 is just stupid.

3) I am changing Even Unto Tartarus to say the following text: "During the Battle Phase, if you are in Tartarus, the Cost of all your Action Maneuvers decreases by 1 (minimum 0.) once per Count." This still allows something like a 0AP Spine/1AP Part X-> 0AP Spine/0AP Part X, 1AP Part X, but it prevents one from locking down the Count on their turn just spamming Actions (although if I have missed vital text that corrects/prevents this, please inform me).
>>
>>45013043

Honestly, just make both spine and Even Unto Tartarus apply to the first action the character takes in a count. It will simplify things a lot.

You might want to limit horn to only working once per attack as well, it will help mitigate support spam letting a meatsnake user go nuts.

And one other house rule you might want to consider.

-Explosive only increases the first point of bonus damage from a critical hit.

Using rocket Launcher as an example, rolling an 11 with it will make the attack Ranged 5 + Explosive for a total of 10 damage. Normally every one higher it goes makes the attack do two more damage. So 11 makes it 10, 12 makes it 12 damage, 13 is 14 damage, so on and so forth. With this it instead goes 8 (default)-10-11-12-etc
>>
>>45013285
Ah, that's a lot simpler. I have a tendency to over-complicate things. Spine is supposed to affect an action on the next count, though. Is it fine to have it work on the same count? It is simpler, but I'm not sure if it cuts off strategies that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

As for Horn only working once per attack, isn't each Chain Attack counted as a separate attack? I'm not quite sure on the specifics there.

Good call on Explosive. I missed that one, and will be including it in my game.
>>
>>45013531

>As for Horn only working once per attack, isn't each Chain Attack counted as a separate attack? I'm not quite sure on the specifics there.

Change it to be once per maneuver then, it's all a part of the same maneuver even if it is a different attack.

> Spine is supposed to affect an action on the next count, though. Is it fine to have it work on the same count?

Keep it to working on next count. The suggested change is simpler and even if it doesn't seem like it'd close any holes, the simpler it is, the harder it is to find an exploit.
>>
>>45014015
Once per Maneuver is good, same on keeping Spine as-is. KISS, eh?

If we could go back to Explosive for a second, do you have any example builds that would allow reliable crits from explosive weapons or weapons with explosive, such as rocket launchers or flamethrowers? I'm not sure how easy it is to Support/Re-roll an attack up into being a Critical Hit every round of combat.
>>
>>45014185

Shotgun can get up to a +4 base on attacks, easily enough. Throw lullaby on and it goes down to a +3 but only cost 1 AP per attack. So that's a 30% chance of critting. A 10% chance of doing 4+Explosive, 10% of doing 3+ Explosive, and a 10% of doing 2+Explosive. Scope can confer a free +2 to one range attack which basically means doing an extra 4 damage when an attack rolls high enough. All of this for just 1 AP.
>>
>>45014364
Any exact details on what you're doing to achieve the +4 base?
>>
>>45014627

Shotgun gives a base +1, Dweller in Hades gives a +1, Gun God, and then Concentration. Only Concentration costs AP to activate (Unless you want to count the cost of moving into Hades)

This is not to say that shotgun itself is hideously broken, just that damage from explosive can spiral out of control.
>>

Nechronica Probability Chart.png
50KB, 686x716px
Half for you guys, half for me. I made a probability chart for Nechronica. I think the math is correct, as I used anydice and am familiar with using it (provided it doesn't need to be a function).
>>
>>45014740
Even with those numbers, it's 1.4 damage (2.8 with explosive) average per Shotgun use (miss chance included). It's incredibly cheap and spammable, but apparently it relies on position (have to move to Hades) and costs 2 AP to activate per round (adds 0.4 average damage per shot before Explosive) in the first place? It's strong, but I'm not quite convinced it has spiraled out of control.
>>
>>44997049
Someone has arrived at last.
OK, the problem is i don't even know where to start.
The PCs wake up, take in their surroundings, I suppose to make things simple I could have a horde of zombs closing in quite close so that the FIGHT scene pops up rapidly for a quick starting session, then outtro where they learn a bit more about the world.

But what quest? why a quest? how to motivate the players? How to describe the world? really detailed, or just feels?
That's the thing. What might be helpful would be simple starting scenarios, from any game, that could be twisted into a nechronica scenario.

Do any of you have a simple scenario for newb DMs ?
>>
>>45006749
>It's weird to find someone who doesn't have at least 1 plan for a death spiral of some sort.
erm, what do you mean by death spiral?
>>
>>45015045
A Necromancer has kidnapped the President.
>>
>>45015091
Not that anon, but I believe he means a player that plans for his Doll to reach a Broken-Hearted state and becomes an enemy for the other Dolls. A 'death spiral' where they go insane as a character arc. It's pretty popular in other systems, too, like AdEva or Cthulhu anything.

>>45015045
I feel that the replay can make for a good scenario, or at least the start of one. "You're in an arena where you fight for others' amusement. Suddenly, a chance to escape happens. Fight your way out because it sucks here!" If they get outside, you can do whatever they want. Maybe one of them has a memory of Rome and they remember about God, so they want to see if they can save themselves by reaching the Vatican City. Maybe it's like Fallout, and they come out to the Capital Wasteland and want to restore greenery to it with a G.E.C.K. Both of these rely on the Dolls being motivated to discover their past lives, so just have it so that the players have interesting memories to write the story/quest for you.
>>
>>45015096
>Are you a bad enough doll to save the President's son?
>>
>>45015096
There is no president. Necromancers are omniscient evil, we don't even know what they are let alone where they are.

no but srsly, a real scenario. with like, a storyline to follow...
>>
>>45015256
[handholding intensifies]
>>
>>45015267
Why says the necromancers are omniscient? Who says they're evil?

What if they're just really bored socially awkward kids who're sitting on stashes of advanced technology?
>>
>>45015027

>(2.8 with explosive)

There's no reason to not include explosive unless you're throwing armor plating on everything to negate it and even then, the true problem is that it can act as a spring board for doing an obscene amount of damage in one blow. You only need 1 crit then you can start dumping supports on it. Extra Eyes? +4 damage dealt. Bolt head? 4 Extra damage. Hit location can help mitigate it, but the risk remains that shit can go bananas really fast with explosive. It's the same reason for limiting chain. Hypothetically, it won't get too bad, but the right set up can have it get crazy.

>>45015225

This guy has it mostly right. Though the thing is, you don't lose control of your character if you become broken hearted. It just means other people can't make convo checks with you and there's all the nasty madness penalties. It's mostly just "How terribly can this character go screaming into the dirt and crash spectacularly."

>>45015267

>Necromancers are omniscient evil

That doesn't have to be the case.

>>45015045

>How to describe the world? really detailed, or just feels?

As much as will let you set the tone you want. You don't really need to dump the nitty gritty of the hows and whys because they most likely don't know.

Example scenarios:
>You all find yourselves in (Unpleasant place). Get out
>You've been ordered by the one who gave you life to go clear out this place of nasties.
>A big thing is coming to eat you, fuckin' run.

>how to motivate the players?

If you mean the characters? Use their fragments, offer them more glimpses into their own pasts, etc etc. All you really need to do is hook one PC in and the others will follow because they've got a fetter on that person.

Just as a follow up to the motivation question, that's why PCs get memory fragments, fetters, and Premonitions. They are there to establish a character who would want to get into things.

>>
>>45015511
They wouldn't. It was just something I hadn't thought through the ramifications of.

Just started my campaign two days ago and this thread is the perfect place to share the experience. The dolls are:
RN (Junk/Requiem/Baroque) who always faces everything with naive optimism. Also likes breaking things with her Super Strength. Her treasure is a broken arm that she carries in her backpack.
Blixtra (Automaton/Thanatos/Romanesque) who is cool and also a cyborg. Carries a light saber and is quicker than anyone else. Her treasure is an eye patch(?) covering one of her eyes.

The both of them wake up in a classroom with the karma 'Find out where you are'. They scout the nearby classrooms until they hear what sounds like a very large insect crawling on the floor above them.
They evacuate the building and find themselves in a large yet partially destroyed city. A short while after leaving the school they hear a terrified scream along with gun shots and something else that they can't really place. They trace the sounds and as they come closer it gets more obvious what that 'something else' was.
They see a green haired girl desperately fleeing from three tripod TVs with gripers, chainsaws, and happy girly faces drawn on their screens and they blast this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvQ5wQfWWI0
Or at least the first one
The girl tries to shoot them with her pistol but the bullets just bounces off of them or hit non-vital areas. One of the robots catch up to the girl, trip her, and push her to the ground. With a happy voice the TV-tripod announces "DAIJOUBU! DAIJOUBU! ATASHI HA ANATA WO KIZUTSUKEMASEN YO~" "DON'T WORRY! DON'T WORRY! I WON'T HURT YOU" as a chainsaw closes in on the girls arms. The girl can only scream as her arms are destroyed. This is when RN decides that she's had enough and takes a shot at one of the TVs with her AT-rifle. And so combat begins.

Thanks to RNs prowess with her rifle and Blixtra's AOE+Dismember attacks they make short work of the TVs but not before a bunch of curious zombies arrive. They easily kill most of the zombies but when there's only 4 left they start to miss again and again. Thanks to a stroke of luck they manage to thin the horde further down to 1 zombie.

>Blixtra states that using her precious light saber on one zombie would be a waste of potential and decides to utilize her fists instead.
>Miss
>Zombie shambles to attack Blixtra but misses her completely, shambling past her instead.
>Blixtra attempts again to attack but instead slip on a leftover zombie part. She's now lying on the ground.
>Zombie can't seem to find someone to sink its teeth in.
>Blixtra tries to attack the zombie now that its confused! But she instead breaks her hand by scraping it against the ground.
>Zombie finally finds Blixtra but falls over and breaks it's neck.

And that was the end of combat. The only thing that remained of the green haired girl was a clump of meat. They attempted to fix her with zombie parts but it fails so they squish what's left of her.

>At the start of combat 2 karmas were announced.
>'Destroy the robots' and 'Kill the girl'
So they didn't really see this as a loss.

Suddenly they hear a slow clap. A very bloodied girl had been watching their fight. She congratulates them for knowing how things work. She then goes on about how everything's about killing others.

A new karma is announced
>Kill the bloodied girl

RN shoots at the bloodied girl and combat ensues. From the nearby buildings deformed wolves reveal themselves and line up to help the bloody girl. RN and Blixtra emerges victorious with nearly no damage but they're starting to stack up on madness. After talking for a while they decide to return to the school.

When they arrive at the school grounds they can see the body of a massive centipede crawl out of one window and into another.

>Of course they shoot it on sight, breaking a large piece of its body

They then search the school, running up and down the stairs, closing windows, pretty much anything they can do to ensure that the centipede won't escape. After searching for a long while they find goo trails that lead to the school's cellar. The light don't work but they can hear the centipede. RN manages to hit it with a blind shot and Blixtra runs ahead using her light saber as a lamp. She finds a huge chunk of the centipede and goo trails leading back towards the entrance. Meanwhile RN straightened her cat ears because she could hear heavy breathing. Stumbling into the darkness she walks towards the sound, hitting a few objects on her way. Both RN and Blixtra manages to meet up thanks to the light saber. They then look at what they searched for.

The sobbing upper half of a girl is dragging herself towards the exit, rambling about murderers, police, and how terrible this is. RN and Blixtra spend some time trying to communicate with this girl but their words never seem to quite match.

>New karma
>Kill girl

After trying to talk some more they decide that the girl is totally insane and that they're probably doing her a favour. They kill the girl. After that they walk out the school and notice that things have changed slightly.
>There's a hint of fog that quickly grows stronger
>They walk to the place were they fought the TVs and the bloody girl
>They see that the place that they came from is slowly getting completely covered in fog
>They instinctively feel that the fog is bad
>They start walking in the opposite direction, away from the fog
>They walk until they reach a large open area were the buildings have been completely razed to the ground

RN's player here.
No, the one caught by the TVs was reduced into... Mush. Bloodied girl is a different girl. We don't like bloodied girl.

Also, it cannot be understated how pathetic the end of that fight was.
The opening shot wrecked one of the TVs. Blixtra went in close-range and used mad AoE dismember attacks to wreck the rest of the TVs (and also the green-haired girl but I guess on some level we didn't care all that much) and when the zombies showed up they were killed in counts of 6 and 7 until there's only 1 left.
... And then the fist-waving happens. RN also shot at it actually and that shot missed too. We spent something like 8 AP trying and failing to hit the last zombie, so that's like... 4 attacks for Blixtra and 2 attacks for RN. All missing. And in the end the zombie accidentally killed itself. We were laughing and facepalming so hard it's not even funny.

I think we were all in agreement that Nechronica is the dumbest and simultaneously best shit ever.

I'm going to say that I'm pleased that the reasoning behind zombies still around years after the apocalypse is nanomachines !

It explains why all flesh hasn't necrosed/rotten away.
It allows dolls to be missing large portions of head but still function.

If there's one thing I'd change is make a male/female/asexual choosable.

and why do you have to house rule "ones many gifts" ? it doesn't seem OP to me
>>
>>45024509
That's the whole point of it though.
>>
>>45024632
I usually see it said that no one really cares if you choose to make a male. That's pretty common as cosmetic houserules go, it doesn't change much if you're a young male instead of a young female.

I assume you're referring to One's Many Charms with your question, and here's why it's not interpreted as Arms/Legs areas having their AP costs reduced by 1: Junk/Thanatos/Romanesque; take God of Death, Instantaneous, One's Many Charms, and Even unto Tartarus. Use your floating reinforcement point for armaments, and get a Ball and Chain. T3 Enhancement should be Rocket Pack, so you're not wasting AP moving. End result: 0 cost Stagger, which cannot be responded to by hinders or rapids, meaning you just get to sit there wailing on everything in Tartarus or Hades until they're at negative infinity AP. This is all done with starting bits, and only gets worse from there.
>>
>>45015323
True. Necromancers are probably military AIs that keep on going because they don't know anything else. They will have been well protected with multiple backup power sources too.
Maybe it has been a while (100 000 years?) so the AIs are becoming sentient, in a way? (engine heart) they need to be sentient to become bored.
And because they have access to organic synthesis vats, they can keep producing super soldiers for the war.
Would a military AI wouldn't produce child dolls though? Unless child dolls were produced alive, implanted with memories, grown and trained until ready, then sent to war. But then again, maybe they did produce child dolls for war, I mean they're vat grown super soldiers, who gives a shit what they look like as long as they function, right?
I think training might have been necessary though.

But everything's infected with nanomachines and possibly synthetic pathogens, virii, bacteria and other bioweapon shit, that the dolls come out "dead" or just don't last long before they do become dead.
That would explain a minimal age difference between dolls.
It could also be that some dolls have been in sleep state for a few years, idk production backlog, rejects, testing, plenty of reasons for not waking a doll. Especially when you're a semi sentient military AI.
Memory implants are just fragments in setting, because of corruption/contamination of the original files. Memory implants would have been important, we know this because we have watched Blade runner, and we know it is truth.

But as noted, the dolls themselves don't ever need to know this. But it does give some plot devices.
What if the group finds one of the backup power sources? It would be like finding a horcrux.

BTW, shouldn't the name of the game be "the long long epilogue" rather than sequel? There isn't going to be any humanity after this.

Indeed. I'm hoping it'll "close the loop" so to say and lead to the eventual development of games which incorporate both western and eastern elements a couple years down the line. We inspired them with D&D, SR and CoC. If they can inspire us with Alshard, Night Wizards and DX it'd be great.

light saber seems OP compared to any other attack in enhancements. Why?

Steel bones (enh tier1) > auto seperate (enh tier3) ?? why?
>>
>>45026139
steel bones costs 1 to activate, auto separate is cost 0

light saber doesn't ignore defense
>>
>>45026139
Enhancement seems more like a utility parts tree, compared to Armaments and Mutation.
>>
>>45026139

Auto-separate is always on meaning you can't be affected by dismember until it gets broken. Steel bones is 1 and done and cost an AP to activate.

>>45026139
Lightsaber is the best attack in enhancements for just beating shit, but isn't terribly handy against defend or auto-separate enemies. Pilebunker is pretty good in its own right in some situations.

>desu (to be honest) I didn't realize it was so easy to abuse. I thought it was good way to make my doll (sorority/romanesque/romanesque) have cheaper to use laser beam and leg blades.

Part of the problem is it does what Lullaby does for free to all parts in two locations and better. Lullaby can't lower the cost below 1, it only works on ranged attacks, and imparts a -1 penalty.

Gonna be assuming you're talking about the game's default setting

>That would explain a minimal age difference between dolls.
The explanation is that dolls are girls because necromancers like making them that way. Innocence of youth or "who knows" is the answer the book gives.

This large open area is so huge that they can only barely make out the buildings on the other side. After walking for a while they notice that the fog doesn't leave the buildings so they continue forwards. They continue forwards until they reach a chain link fence that surround a square patch of dirt. On the other side of the fence they see

>Pile of trash
>Some dead plants
>A small house
>Someone standing close to the house

RN breaks the fence with her Super Strength but the figure by the house notice. The figure was a girl with wolf/dog-like features, such as sharp teeth, ears, and tail. The wolf girl charges towards RN and Blixtra shouting complaints and questions about the broken fence.

>New karma
>Kill

The wolf girl topples Blixtra and shakes her while still shouting the same things. A girl with feline features appears from the house to aid the wolf girl but it's already too late. RN and Blixtra makes short work of both of them. Because the karma said so.
They search the house and find some rotting meat, an arm, an old LP record, and a crudely drawn map. The map features the city buildings, the house in the middle of the plain, a castle encircled by red, a huge question mark, and some round shapes in one of the corners. After some short discussion they decide to go to the castle. They manage to figure out the general direction of it and head that direction.

While walking they notice that the fog is moving away from the buildings and towards the fenced area. That and that the area they're moving towards looks like a child attempted to build some mountains but ended up with a couple of hills instead. Soon enough they arrive at the castle. The gates were open so they broke it in order to ensure that they wouldn't be trapped in the castle.

What they find inside the castle is a long table set with a macabre display. There are at least 8 guests and their innards make the decorations and feast served. When RN sees this scenery she literally drop her jaw due to shock.

At the end of the long table in a slightly larger seat than the others sits a girl in a black dress and hat. Her eyes are closed and her clothing slightly bloodied. When they approach her she jumps up and a new karma is announced

>Trust her

The girl in black tells them that she's been expecting them. And that she's glad that they found the map. And that they've done a good job so far. And that she wants them to go and kill a girl named Elizabeth. And that she doesn't like MARIA. And that they can have tea if they want.

>Kill Elizabeth

RN declines the tea offer by telling her that isn't tea its blood and even if it was tea it wouldn't taste good.

>Tea is good for you, never speak ill of tea again

The girl also tells RN and Blixtra that there's nothing interesting in going back to the school nor in the fog after they insist that she tells them. She then sends them off to kill Elizabeth after pointing at their map.

>Stay away from the fog

RN and Blixtra return to the fenced area that is now slightly foggy. There they see a familiar face. A bloodied face. The bloody girl has returned now slightly disfigured and with more chainsaws! And of course there are overgrown wolves helping her.

>Kill

I won't go into detail but Blixtra ended up as a mostly mushy pile and thanks to some almost useless supporting fire from an unknown helper they might have dodged a TPK. If I recall correctly they were about to discuss what to do next when the session ended.

I'm pretty sure there are other groups that could also claim to have that theme, such as the homeless, the mentally ill or even teenagers (of all genders).
>>
>>45031815
Same reason Eclipse Phase is about teenaged propaganda. There was a market for it and someone provided.
>>
>>45031852
I think this is the real reason.

I believe that prepubescent kid zombies is sufficiently fucked up that there is no need for it to be uniquely girls.

Yes, all data is pulled from the wiki because the wiki is the only source of the rules currently available.

If you do this, then it becomes harder to justify emotional weakness and dependence for every character, if only because there are so many more counterexamples in the new categories of people than "little girls." Remember that every doll in the game has to be this way for the game to function.

My little boy (irl) is 5. He would be just as weak and dependant as a little girl.
Even a teen boy wouldn't exactly be a paragon of stability in such a world. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
>>
>>45033009
Great. The age range by the rules is 8 to 17, though.
>>
>>45032930
You can be emotional weak because
- undead fuckery
- shit happened that made you like that when you where alive.
- you just are. Not everyone is strong.

Those are a few reasons that came up from the top of my head. I'm sure that if you leave it up to the players, then they can come up with some more interesting reasons why their mind is fucked.
>>
The creator, Kamiya, made the "requirement" to be little girls because he wanted the focus to be on emotional connections, rather than dudebros joyously killing zombies with chainsaw hands. It's a little sexist in weird ways, but I feel so long as you keep the focus on interpersonal connections and relying on each other in order to get through nightmareish hellscapes, you can do whatever the heck you want with characters. Male, female, older, younger, it doesn't really matter.

I guess I can try. But it's surprising how much of my attempt is similar to Google Translate.

>World Setting
>Necromancy
>In the world of [Nechronica], there exists the technology of [necromancy] that animates an organism’s corpse as though it were alive. The corpses moving through necromancy are called [undead].
>The words necromancy and undead give a sorcerous or occult impression, but the necromancy of this world is the product of scientific technology. Necromancy is a technique established before the the collapse of human society, and it is also the greatest legacy left to the apocalyptic world.
>Necromancy is a scientific technique consisting of nanotechnology and personality download technology. First described is the advancement of nanotechnology in this world.

Servant seems much more likely than Savant, and isn't Katakana how Japanese pronounce stuff? I believe so, and they have no idea how to pronounce English.
Also looking towards FSN, in the anime I recall them pronouncing it savant.
Considering we also have official material that actually uses 'servant', even though it's just a link, I think I'll update savant to servant.

Well, if you're looking for specifics, I do like the portion breaks. They're just enough to say 'This is a new set of information' without being overly intrusive; maybe a font point or two larger, but as is they don't need much changing.

I would say that things like the Reinforcement Points table being actual tables would probably be more appealing, as well, though I'm not sure if that's just a matter of it being a draft or if you had planned to keep it like that.

And finally, don't change a single thing about how you're formatting positions and classes. Those two first pages look absolutely lovely; you can't even compare it to the old ones. That's definitely the best part of it so far.

Hopefully that's useful?
>>
>>45033085
... Our party are pretty much sadists. I think we may be doing it wrong.
(Loving it though.)

>the theme of innocence is deeply ingrained in the mechanics blablabla etc.
... Not really. The only reason they're little girls as opposed to big or little boys or men or whatever the heck else is because the fluff just declares that It Must Be So (indeed probably because they're targeting creepy otakus) and not because the mechanics or setting or anything really -demand- it.

Would that declaration of intended themes be able to inform your playing with this system? Sure. But that's not the same as actually being deeply ingrained in the mechanics or anything.

Besides, fetters aren't actually what's so great about nechronica. The entire rest of the combat system is.

>>45035676

Edited the Reinforcement Point table to look a bit different.
The section breaks are mainly from the wiki. I personally think the amount of double line breaks is overkill, though I assume the breaks you're referring to are the bolded words.
I'll try increasing the font size tomorrow, but that requires so much work because it makes -everything- move around.
I'm glad the class formatting is well praised, though I think my current exact implementation of it is a bit hackish (Namely there's a lot of notable inconsistency). That's something I'm accepting as this isn't a professional PDF to begin.

Current progress before I take a break for today.

Well, if servant is the correct translation, then that's what we ought to use.

We _could_ keep "savant" and have a translation note in the description that it really should be servant, but savant is more "kewl".

I believe it's important, because it's honoring the original. We aren't homebrewing (except for not being creepy mouthbreathing otakus wanting all lolis all the time)

Considering the general view on Japanese culture in the West, especially on the Internet, and a lot of cultural and political factors, Japanese-English translators who don't sound like Gaia Online rejects or like a less comprehensible Yoda are hard to find.
The long story is that it has a lot to do with WWII, US propaganda, prioritization of Korea over Japan, the Korean government, organized historical revisionism and cultural plagiarism, targeted attempts at undermining Japanese interaction with the outside world on equal terms and the like, backed by a lot of Korean expats in US media and right-wing sympathies that are easy for the Koreans to exploit.
The short version is that Japanese people being proficient in English, or English-speakers being properly proficient in Japanese, has been worked against on a large scale by both the US and South Korea for the last 70 years, and as such it's a sad fact that translators are insanely hard to find.
If we could find one, too, we'd have to pay them for their work, considering that there are a lot of differences between Japanese and English, and translating between the two is hard even if you're fluent in both due to different sentence structures, the larger use of wordplay in Japanese and the large amount of proverbs and idioms used in both languages.

All of these have too many level 3 parts. Is there a particular reason you're giving them so many or is this for fun builds?

Also, for your second one, why a katana AND a great knife? You could o for a superior katana and shovel or something else with a non-standard effect instead. Add more variety to your attacks.

Both Clockwork and extreme mutation give you a Tier 3 enhancement and mutation, respectively.

The setting is as depressing or nondepressing as you want.

My version of it was probably bleaker than Wraith or basically anything else (the only way for dolls to escape the constant pain and suffering of the cycle of living, being sliced up into different parts and remade into other dolls/legions/horrors was by ascending into "Nirvana" and becoming halfbreed celestials that feed off of human suffering by going completely insane).

But it can also include campfires around dead bodies, reading story books or game manuals to each other, trying out different clothes as seen from the bed. Dreaming about freedom and hope.

Really, it can fall anywhere from grimdark to noblebright. It's up to you.
>>
>>45048980
Whoa man, check your tinfoil hat.
>>
>>45049121
Ah, missed those.

One of my favourite builds was my gauntlets/super strength/armour skin and rip and tear so they were putting out Damage 3 + 1 Dismember attacks and if they lost that still had damage 2 + 1 Dismember attacks at AP 2. Fun times.
>>
>>45049066
The particular parts I picked were all based on the images: so I went with Great Knife, as opposed to something else, for the giant-ass sword in the left shoulder; and with katana, because it was the only sword proper in T1s and I needed one of those. I agree that I didn't add much variety to my attacks, but that was a product of the images I chose. I didn't pick them thinking of what parts they would end up with, but more because I thought they looked cool; and then I just threw together builds that seemed to capture the images. If I'd done some images with less bladed/melee weapons, it certainly would've turned out different, with more variety.

Whenever I play in my group a few hours can easily pass by without us noticing it if we're in combat. I think the longest combat we've been in so far took 3 or 4 hours but sometimes the fighting is done as quick as 15 minutes after it started. It all depends on how tough the enemy is and how damaged the PCs are.

The wiki seems to be a bit unclear in places. Especially over doll creation and how to buy Armaments, Mutations and such. Can anyone who can read nip squiggles clarify it?
>>
>>45067211
What do you mean?
I found doll creation not very clear: but the other anons explained it.
>>
>>45067211
Well, during creation, you combine your class choices and get something like, say.

Arm 1. Mut. 2. Enh 1.

Let's say we put the extra point you get into Ench to make it 2.

Now the reinforcement chart says that at five points, you can get a tier 3 part, but it's also been suggested that because of the numbers, you are only limited to a tier that you have a rank in?

The above example would only be able to get Tier 1 armaments, for example, while they'll be able to get tier 2 mutations and enhancements, but never tier 3 at creation?

It's not explained too clearly in the guide, hopefully this can fix it a little.

>>
>>45069500
>>
>>45067305
Has there been any concrete answer to this yet?
>>
>>45071470
I don't understand what you mean.
Let's take for example Arm 1, Mut 2, Enh 2
You can have 1 tier 1 part in armements
1 tier 1 and 1 tier2 mutation
1 tier 1 and 1 tier2 enhancement.

Make a romanesque/romanesque and you get
5 reinforcement points in enhancements, so that's 2 tier1 parts, 2tier2 parts and 1tier3 parts
>>
>>45071802
So where does the 1tier 3 come from?
Neither Arm, Mut or Enh have a 3 in them.

The reinforcement chart says that you can get a tier3 enhancement, but I'm led to believe that the available tiers are limited by your Arm,Mut or Enh score. So you'll need a 3 in one to get access to a tier 3 part.

Or am I just being retarded and over complicating things?
>>
>>45071953
If you look closer you can see that there are two examples. One in which the character has 1 armament point, 2 mutation points, and 2 enhancement points. This one does not have a tier 3 enhancement.
The other is a character with 5 enhancement points instead, giving it 1 tier 3 enhancement part.

>>45067324
I'm going to attempt to explain the chart now.
Starting at 1 point in each category and every third point thereafter the character gains a tier 1 part, starting at 2 points and every third point thereafter the character gains a tier 2 part, and lastly starting at 3 points and every third point thereafter the character gains a tier 3 part.
>>
>>45072318
That makes sense now, thank you!
>>
I just want to thank all the hard working people trying to get this shit done. Thanks so much, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finale version even if my group will never play this. Keep up the good work guys!
