Ah Sir Erec, although only a simple farmer you left your simple life to escape your poverty. With Bow in hand and a silver tongue along with a knack for leading you set out along the back roads to find work.

Finally reaching a peaceful hamlet among the plains you canter into town wondering where you should check first?

You head into the Inn, dark and illuminated only by candlelight. No one pays you any mind as you chat with one of the bar wenches. None seemed interested so you left and checked the work board out.

Walking to the board you see papers tacked onto the board. A few of them read...

I imagine no farmer would really want their son to apprentice to an archer.

if it doesn't take place in an entirely different area.
>>
>>44987517
>I imagine no farmer would really want their son to apprentice to an archer.

Except the ones who want their sons to, you know, live?

Archery is a fucking lot safer than running straight into the thick of battle and hoping you don't get blindsided by cavalry or arrows.
>>
>>44987443
Go meet the apothecary.

Do the wolf and herb job.
>>

Question

We are not proficient with a sword, but do we have one?

If something closes the gap we have to defend ourselves

>>

Does Swordsmanship include other melee weapons as well? Surely as an ex-farmer, we would be more familiar with the usage of a sickle, or a flail, or perhaps even an axe if we used to chop our own wood?

Trotting over to the Alchemist hut you dismount and tell him your here for the Job.
"Good, good, my dear sir. I just need you to find a Dragon's Bloom, Teal Root, and a Horse's hair. When done I'll have the reward as promised".

30 Gold

Assuming these aren't rare ingredients, that sounds reasonable.
>>
>>44988175
Ask about areas they commonly grow at first.
Check if there are wild beasts there.
>>
>>44988175

Not sure why we bought the sword especially without a scabbard to hold it in but whatever.
>>
>>44988254

This, depending on the information we can haggle a better reward
>>
>>44988259
I wonder why there wasn't a wider variety of weapons availible.

A sabre or spear would have been more useful to us.

>>44988175
Get info about plants and where they grow.
Ask about any animals common in the area.

Also answer our question.
High/low or no fantasy?
>>
>>44988373
A spear, I think. We'd have some experience in using polearm-like implements from use of pitchforks and hoes. We'd have no practice at all in using a sword.
>>
>>44988430
Sabres and spears have the lowest learning curve of all weapons which is why they were widespread weapons.
>>
>>44988230
>>44988254
>>44988259
"Any wild beasts I should watch out for? And where's a good place to check for the stuff you need"?

"There shouldn't be anything too dangerous, just normal forest dwellers. No Monsters to worry about if that's what you're implying"?

"Oh the ingredients should be near the edge of the forest. The flower usually grows in the farmer's fields but I haven't time to get them".

" Thanks I'll be back with the stuff soon".

Grabbing the Manual as you ride out towards the farm. You pick a yellow and red flower matching the description and continue to the house.

You ask the man about the letter posted and hurries back inside, and comes out with a young man and woman.

"Sir, this is my boy Robert and my daughter Raina. They want to see the world and become a Apprentice under you. But both can't go just yet as I need help tending the land".

"Once again, I would like to thank you for your help. I may have need of your services in the future".
