How do you find the post-OGW post-bans metagame?

Personally having a blast with Kiki-Chord and Jeskai Flash.
>>

1. Sets up Miracles
2. Digs for fetchlands/Top
3. Sets up Counterbalance with prior knowledge of whether or not you need to reveal

ARE WE MEMEING?
>>
>>44964792
1 and 2 can be accomplished in your opponent's turn. You're able to respond to the counterbalance trigger with brainstorm, giving you the knowledge of whether to reveal or not.

Digging for fetchlands/top is sort of an okay response, but I'd value the information gain from casting brainstorm later more.
>>
>>44964893
1 can't be accomplished in your opponent's turn because that means you can't miracle until your next turn. 2 can't be accomplished in your opponent's turn because you can't play fetchlands or Tops in your opponent's turn.
>>

Bolt, helix, electrolyze, path, counterspells, maybe oujtais command
>>
>>44965021
Does the pope shit bears in the woods?
>>
>>44964918
Oops, meant 1 and 3.

If you're trying to miracle in your opponent's turn, that means you have some other form of card draw. If it's a top, I'd still save brainstorm for the opponent's turn.

But if all you've got in your hand is a brainstorm, you should cast it on your opponent's turn.
>>
>>44965071
you could even toss in kiki and maybe some exarchs/pestermites.
I like Kikichord, it's a combo deck that can hold off aggro better than the other combo decks.
>>
>>44964769
Seems similar to what it was before atleast at my FNM. Blue seemed pretty unpopular at my FNM even before the twin ban, at my FNM and just months prior twin was everywhere.

Nah. I've been playing Kiki-Chord since Pia and Kiran Nalaar and it's tons of fun. I'm happy people are finally seeing how great the deck is and how awesome Restoration Angel is in the meta. Lets us find the best list possible.

Jeskai Flash is us being memes, however. Love both of these decks.
>>
>>44965387
Build UR Surge/ Juri En/ Card Draw/ Chasm Skulker, which is what I'm doing. I didn't even think to use that dude, thanks!

Or keep that little guy. I think he could be worth a little bit of money in foil here in a year or two.
>>
>>44965417
2 mana counter wouldn't be enough to make control viable. You cannot close out games fast enough for them to just go off a second time and kill you.

We would need sometimes like Baleful Strix and Flusterstorm printed for modern to even make it a consideration.
>>
>>44965387
keep it for jeskai ascendancy
>>
>>44964769
Tried Kiki-Chord and got fucked by mass removal.

I'm liking UWR Resto-Kiki better.
>>
>>44965548
Why would you use him in Jeskai Ascendancy?
>>
>>44965548
Wait what kind of jeskass you talkin' 'bout
>>
>>44965071
Jeskai Flash is Jeskai Control featuring the full playset of Restoration Angel and 0-4 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.
>>
>>44965071
>>44965709
Seems like it could be the new twin.

Is it fun?
>>
>>44965740
Yes. There is no stock list yet, so you'll need to make your own if you want to play it. Or you wait two weeks for the Pro Tour faggots to brew the best version for you.
>>
>>44964993
It's insane in the right deck. Fetch lands ramp you like crazy and knight/prime/Genesis wave make it go bonkers
>>
>>44965433
Speaking of Kiki chord is there any chance Krasis could see play in there? Temur Twin could run him, but could he work in Kikichord?
>>
>>44965887
Kiki-Chord is usually Naya or Naya Black. I assume you could go a Naya Blue version like Kiki Pod, but I'm not convinced Krasis provides enough value for the deck.
>>
>>44965887
I thought about that and tried to gen up a decent build, but found that white adds a lot more than green... at least in my meta.
>>
>>44965489
>You cannot close out games fast enough for them to just go off a second time and kill you.
What deck are you referring to here? Control in Modern plays fine against storm/bloom/goryo's style all-in combo decks. Ad Nauseam is tough because of instant speed and Pacts. Otherwise you mostly lose to Tron and Bogles and stuff. Linear decks that are hard to interact with but aren't really combos.
>>
>>44965740
it was the first modern deck i ever built.
here's my list.
>>
>>44965992
>>44965989
What about a full out Kiki deck,
4 chord, 4 collected company, 4 exarch, 4 pestermite, 4 krasis, 4 resto and 4 kiki? Maybe even a Bring to Light
>>

>>
>>44966290
Yeah but in the hypothetical 5c deck it would be kiki #5
>>
>>44966351
You answered your own question. It's better to add a fucking throper foundry unless you have tech with wastes. They're for draft (or a walker of the wasteland deck which might be cool)
>>
>>44965846

>>
>>44966555

Your deck is an extension of you.

I like mine to look aesthetic and neat. Having matching sets, art and good condition is important to me.

It irks me when cards are just crammed into a deck, especially with something as simple as basics

>>
>>44967547
I use matching artwork and sets, but only because if you don't you can give away information with if your opponent uses things like IoK, probe, etc. It doesn't really matter which art or set, it's just whichever I happen to have. They all function the same.

I'm now seriously considering whether or not the miniscule advantage gained by my current method is worth not being able to fuck with people like you.
>>
>>44967700
you should use as many different arts as possible
>>
>>44967700
I use mostly Urza's and Invasion basics, all matching each other, because of nostalgia for old sets. I run a one-of Akroma, Angel of Fury in Kiki Flash for the same reason: nostalgia for Time Spiral block and the old pre-mending characters.

I couldn't care less about "giving away information".

White borders, pic related every time
>>
>>44967428
Well, mechanically, you're better off having all copies of a card be the same artistically

It's so small a consideration that it's really just nitpicking, but you can provide information you otherwise wouldn't if you have different versions of the same card.
>>
>>44967773
I've been considering doing that, and having as much of my deck white-bordered as I can.

So when a spell that deals damage resolves, is the resolution a sequence, or is the complete action simultaneous? As in does it deal damage and then go to the graveyard, or do both simultaneously?

I.E. Pyro on the stack over a 0/1 Goyf, crack a fetch in response, does the Goyf live as a 2/3-2 with Pyro and the fetch in the yards, or does it die before Pyro hits the yard?

Wizards is extremely trigger-happy with bans in Modern. Just about everyone's lost money to them at this point, and they're starting to make Modern players really pissed off.

And then there are cards like Ancestral Vision and Stoneforge Mystic which were preemptively banned for being "too good" despite being far more "fair" cards than urzatron. It's sad that those cards have never once seen the light of day in modern.

I think it would be a good thing if they could drive the price of the format down. I don't want to play collector, if I did I'd play vintage or legacy. But you can't justify a hundred plus dollar prices in a format that's supposed to be in flux. Mythic rarity is the biggest culprit and the worst thing ever done to the game. I hardly ever play paper magic anymore and wouldn't recommend it either, unless you want to play commander, where bans are few and cards are singleton. As someone who'd love to feel safe putting money into modern, let's see fetches for 5 dollars. Until then, no thanks.

Hey all, I've played a lot of casual with my groups and have been delving into modern this last year. Critique this deck for me guys, I love playing this, but it's maybe 2 turns too slow for my liking, and Topor Orb shuts me down like nothing else.

I have no clue what to sideboard in, or how to structure it period.

Thoughts, suggestions, and fixes are much appreciated!

Then that's even stupider. The mob has no literal power other than whingeing and stamping its feet, the only power is what we or companies like CFB choose to give them. They howl about stupid shit, and various people and institutions choose to kowtow or not, based on our own interests and political leanings. It's 100% the opposite of fascism.

snapcaster grants a card flashback with a flashbackcost equal to it's mana cost. the mana cost does not exist, so you cannot pay it. cascade allows you to cast a spell without paying it's mana cost, which is fine. the mana cost that does not exist is calculated as 0 for the purpose of the cascade mechanic.

The only saving grace that UltraPro has is that it's cheap.

Other than that it's the shittiest everything. No consistency in sleeve sizing, sleeves fall apart, non-sleeve product breaks, the list is long. I find it funny that they have the Wizards contract on merchandise with official art, because that just speaks to how much Wizards doesn't give a fuck about any details including the quality of the peripherals.

The only thing I like about UltraPro are the cheap $2.00 deckboxes. They're cheap and they're the only thing that haven't broken on me (yet). And if they broke, I wouldn't be terribly angry because it cost me nothing.

I wouldn't give a shit about their sleeves breaking either because they're so inexpensive. However, one batch is never the same size as the other batch so you can't even buy the same damn sleeves a year from when you bought the previous ones because they're always miscut. You buy a 100 pack and one set of 50 are miscut from the other 50.

Deprive has a major drawback. You want to cast it on turn 2, but that's when its at its worst. Conditional counters are better in the early game, but hard counters are necessary in the late game.

Why do you whine about tapping creatures and think control is so much better. How is saying no until your drowning in cards or life any better?
>>
>>44977501
Because it's different from tapping creatures until your opponent runs out of life, or playing two cards together and going to the next game. Variety is good, anon. Having multiple playstyles be viable is good.
>>
>>44977501
The complaint is that there is no viable control deck, and that you have to play a creature strategy to be viable
>>
>>44977501
Control isn't better, but it's needed for a healthy game.

I hate playing against control in other games. "bounce that to your library" or "countered that spell" isn't fun, but other decks need it as a check to their own power.

I don't think either should dominate the game, but both need to exist, or else the game turns into a rushdown
>>
>>44977501
Because the control lists lack the draw engines and countermagic to deal with unfair decks. As well as the answers are to weak too deal with fair decks threats.

There really isn't anything they could unban to fix this either, ponder/preordain would help with consistency but not the lack of power.
>>
>>44977690
Look at the current metagame. All combo decks that can largely ignore the other player, or aggro decks that are looking to win before those decks. Combo decks only need to worry about being fast and consistent, not resilient. Its not healthy for the format

You could say the same thing about Tarmogoyf, Snapcaster Mage, or Tasigur. If one or two decks run maindeck hosers for otherwise powerful cards it doesn't invalidate those cards. It just means you might side them out or have a tougher matchup.

Ancestral Visions is legitimately hilariously bad again Eldrazi. It both fuels their deck and while they take it out of suspend and it just feels horrible.

>>44978376
Tiago is basically nowhere to be found with Twin gone, Goyf and Tasigur also are featured mainly in fair decks which got much worse if the unfair strategies are as rampant as people are predicting.

Angler/Tasigur and Tiago being incredibly dogshit against Eldrazi which is a super popular deck all of a sudden is one of the main reasons why Sam Black said Grixis Control is completely unplayable now the other reason being of course its best matchup getting banned
>>
>>44978065

In the time between casting Ancestral VisioN and it actually going off, aggro and hyper aggro have killed you twice over, and big mana decks are so far ahead theres literally no blue or white cards in the format that will catch you up.

Its okay to good, maindeck spreading seas is strong against both and vial lets you put our a clock fast enough to try and race their strategy.

The issue I think would be with Infect and Affinity. You aren't faster than them and Merfolk really does not have the interaction needed to stop both decks oneshot infect kill outside of Cursecater for Infect. Vapor Snags are the only thing they run right? Do they run dismember?

If I need RIP, I'm gonna get RIP. Not to mention I can do it G1. With Mox Diamond I can cast RIP T1 or Chant + RIP on T2.

The worst match-ups are T1 combos like Belcher and Oops, but that goes for every non-blue Legacy deck.

It's not some secret T1 brew, but it does have the tools to go up against most of the other decks in Legacy. The hardest thing is actually piloting it correctly, with so much tutoring and deck manipulation the decision trees are enormous.

Chances of a splinter twin unban in April?
>>
>>44981182
same as the chances of a pod unban in april 2015
>>
What tier is Ad Nauseam? I wanna know before buying into it.
>>
>>44981240
2 - 2.5. You'll win more games on surprise factor and your opponent not being prepared for it/understanding it/not having any sideboard hate for it than from it being an actually good deck
>>
>>44981124
Primetime is just a way better 6 drop
>>
So how bad an idea on a scale of "shit" to "do you even understand Modern" is Zur's Weirding? Slot it into a UW control shell perhaps, with Finks and other sources of life? Maybe even a recursive setup with Floodbringer and Kabira Crossroads?
>>
>>44981363
it simply does not have the synergy with nykthos as primalcrux does

Could Esper Zur still be a thing in modern?
>>
>>44981448
zur's weirding would be better suited towards an edh deck with oloro, with necropotence to not fuck yourself with its effect
>>
Can I ask a question, I'm pretty bad, and still learning. I was playing at a friends the other night, and he swung at me for some damage, I chose not to block and just take the damage. At this time, he said, "Oh, well I'll just hit your Gideon instead then." Was this legal? Can he switch his attack after he said he was going to swing at me? Not my Planeswalker?

Thank you for reading and replying, I appreciate the help and information.
>>
>>44981506
Straight up illegal, as soon as he declares attackers he must declare who he is attacking, your friend is a dick
>>
>>44981473
Primalcrux comes into play and does nothing. Primetime gets you immediate value and if you ever untap he'll probably generate as much if not more mana by fetching another nykthos. Hell, if you have enough devotion primetime can probably generate more on the turn he comes in.
>>
>>44981506
Illegal
>>
>>44981182
Unless no one shows up to the GP and the next MM sells dogshit because players boycotting modern there's zero chance.

And we all know thats impossible since people are lazy morons.
>>
>>44981448
It sounds good on paper, but then you realize your opponent could spend his life to keep you off your answers just as much as you can spend life to keep him off of threats. But he's the beatdown... so he probably has more life than you.

You can test it out in an UB or Esper shell with lifegain and discard. Try and get your opponent into topdeck mode and then prevent him from ever drawing anything relevant. It seems like a tempo card to me though. Maybe try Esper "delver" with 3-4 Tasigur for beats and non-weirded card advantage?

Thank you for your replies. Yeah he's a try hard. Brags about his 1500 USD Modern deck a lot.

Cheers anons.

1 of Kessig for prime time?
>>
>>44981603
for any creature, you can go wide and just dump all your nykthos mana into any unblocked elf
>>
>>44981566

Thanks! I did read the rules and the compendium on the wiki, but he insisted that he was correct having played for X years.

Just happy there is some anons out there willing to answer some questions.

Chances of a Wild Nacatl unban soon?

Oh wait.
>>
>>44981544
"Non-draw" seems like a possibility as well. Finally a use for Telling Time.
>>
>>44981321
Will it get better now that Twin is gone or nah? I like that it's under 400 but if I need to invest more to have something consistent then it can't be helped.
>>
>>44981658
Holy shit, how does someone with years under his belt have such a poor understanding of phases?
>>
>>44979796
I just built mono-white D&T and I couldn't believe that price tag as well. No way am I spending $70 on Horizon Canopy either, fuck that.

Anyway with all 8 colorless sources in the deck I'm thinking of trying Matter Reshaper in D&T, seems good. Maybe even Warping Wail in the board.

>Zur's Weirding
After 5 hard minutes of brewing I present to you the most expensive jank deck in Modern.

Weird BUG:

Creatures: 13
4 Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
4 Tarmogoyf
3 Tasigur, the Golden Fang

Instants and Sorceries: 18
4 Thought Scour
3 Inquisition of Kozilek
3 Thoughtsieze
4 Abrupt Decay
2 Maelstrom Pulse
2 Murderous Cut

Other Spells: 7
4 Liliana of the Veil
3 Zur's Weirding

Lands: 22
3 Creeping Tar Pit
4 Polluted Delta
3 Verdant Catacombs
1 Misty Rainforest
2 Watery Grave
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Breeding Pool
2 Island
2 Swamp
1 Forest
2 Ghost Quarter
>>
>>44981910
That IS an exceedingly high cost/jank ratio. I like the ideas of Banana King, Cut, and Tar Pit.
>>
>>44981942
Yep. The plan is to destroy the opponent's hand with Lili/Inquisition/Thoughtseize and land a beater so when the Weirding comes down you can "race" their topdecks. Jace and Tasigur provide a way to generate CA even under the effect of the Weirding.

It might be pretty good against Tron, but with only 8 removal spells and no lifegain or sweepers you're gonna get shit on by burn and affinity. I guess that's what the sideboard is for.

Atleast Twin's not around to remand your CMC 4 enchantment anymore though.
>>
Reckon any cards of OGW will see any modern play?
>>
>>44982009
Mystical Teachings and Gifts Ungiven don't draw, so I briefly considered them while I was making all of the other questionable decisions. Teachings even comes with native Flashback.

The downside is they're fairly slow.
>>
>>44982083
goblin depth dwellers seems enticing.
>>
>>44981910
Woops, just realized when I was shuffling around cards for that deck that there are 11 creatures, not 13, so it's a 58 card deck. I would add two Disfigures for cheap removal, but going to 24 lands by adding another Tar Pit and Ghost Quarter could be better.
>>
>>44982083
Aside from the obvious answer of the various eldrazi cards, crush of tentacles seems nice in a grixis/temur delver deck
>>44981821
Probably, but it's hard to say. Traditionally combo decks are beaten by control decks, and it remains to be seen if twin's banning makes control decks any more viable.

Playing Teachings and Weirding in the same deck is REALLY slow, but the synergy is definitely there. I don't think Weirding is viable in a control shell without a lot of incidental lifegain to break the card's symmetry and Modern really doesn't have that. That's why I went with the midrange shell.

they're both shit. run spells, not creatures, if you want to mill. Hedron crab being the only exception. Sphinx tutelage, archive trap, maybe altar of the brood, counterspells and boardwipes. Check out psychic strike if you're in blue black.

It's a legal move with burn spells and abilities, however.
>I lightning bolt you
>Ok, resolve
>As lightnint bolt resolves, I redirect the damage to your planeswalker
is the correct procedure for targeted spells and abilities. Your friend probably assumed it would be the correct procedure for combat as well, which it isn't.
>>
>>44966782
No the lands have to represent the deck, inconsistent sounds about right.

Can't go wrong with UG Flipntray, the magnets will never open by accident even when shaked heavily, satin interior and separate compartment for dice.
