Two, after they burned the Thousand Suns he said he'd not listen to the Emperor anymore
Three, he never once questioned anything that the Emperor or Horus told him. You might think this is a good thing. It is not. This led to the Burning of the The Thousend sons, which led to them actually joining Horus, which led to the deaths of trillions upon trillions upon trillions of people. Had Russ stopped for one moment and said 'maybe I should double check with the Big E before I go and kill my brother.' than not only would this have prevented the massacre at Isstvan, since the Emperor would realized, 'hey, Horus might be up to some bad shit, telling Russ to kill Magnus like that' But it would also mean that Horus would be down one less legion on his side, and possibly have led to a totally different outcome of the Horus Heresy as a whole.
So, in summery Russ is an overly obedient lap dog.
>>44955468 >'maybe I should double check with the Big E before I go and kill my brother.' it's obvious you've never served in the military because you DO NOT question an order while in a state of war. This has been an axiom since the beginning of time. Questioning a direct order is punishable by death and always has been
either way your point is moot because Fagnus and the Transsexual Sons deserved what they got.
>>44955530 No, they really didn't. Magnus fucked up. Bad. But he could have been much more useful alive than a fucking tratior. Also, like I said, during the Heresy, Russ said 'fuck the Emperor, imma do my own thing.' Pic fucking related.
Also, Russ is a godamn Primarch, if any person, anywhere, in all of space in time and in human history, should double check their orders, its them. Because the the fate of the entire human race rests on them. But Russ is to stupid to do something logical like that.
>>44955613 >unwittingly battling Alpharius himself who was disguised as one of his Lernaean bodyguards Jesus fucking Christ. This is the guy Abnett expects everyone to accept as the Emperor's own executioner? He couldn't beat the Lion in a three-day fight, he only beat Magnus because Magnus wanted to lose, and he couldn't even kill the dude whose only trait is that he has a backup? Jesus.
>>44955696 >He couldn't beat the Lion in a three-day fight You realize Lion won because Russ stopped fighting and start laughing at the stupidity of such fight. Lion punched him out of spite because he felt hurt that Russ was laughing.
>>44960123 >attack brother in infantile tantrum >oh shit, can't win >quick, stop fighting and start laughing and pretend it was all a joke >get knocked the fuck out because Lion is sick of Dog-boys retardation >whine about it for centuries
>>44963719 that's exactly what happened though. russ picked a fight with lion because he was upset that the dark angels showed up the space yiffs, he proceeds to get his ass handed to him and starts to laugh to lighten the mood and lion knocks him out.
>>44955468 >Had Russ stopped for one moment and said 'maybe I should double check with the Big E before I go and kill my brother
Thousand Son defenders always bring this up by why Russ do this. Why would any Primarch sent to capture Magnus, save for maybe Sanguinus or Jhagatai do this? The Emperors original decree was that if Magnus broke the edict of the Council of Nicaea his Legion would be destroyed and struck from Imperial Records. Why would he waste time recontacting the Emperor, who was no longer concerned with matters of military, when his Warmaster gave him a new order that was perfectly in line with the Emperor's edict. Why would he give Magnus, the warp obsessed radical whose practices had been condemned and warned about over and over, the benefit of a doubt over his favored brother who has proven his loyalty a hundred times over?
>>44965505 The Emperors original orders were to bring Magus back to Terra to give him a firm talking to But Horus changed the Orders to get Russ to kill The Thousand Suns Because Horus knew it would get Magus to join the him in the Heresy
>>44965642 >to give him a firm talking to He was going to face trial, be found guilty, because how the fuck is Magnus going to explain that Horus is a traitor when he learned that from using sorcery he was forbidden from using, and then probably executed. Magnus had gotten several firm talking to already over the course of the past century that last being "Use sorcery again and you die".
Magnus had his fate sealed his fate the moment he got his vision. The Emperor could have not sent Russ at all and Magnus would have been fucked.
>>44965752 Neh, the Empra needed Magnus to sit in that golden chair of his. He was too valuable to just execute. Better for him to redeem himself by sitting there forever while the Emperor does other things.
>>44965828 You gotta respect Angron. He knows the Emperor is full of shit, he happily admits he's a brain-damaged maniac, he knows everything he does is evil and awful, and he just rolls with it. He's utterly unpretentious.
>>44965900 Oh yeah, probe a Tzeencthian addled mind for the truth. That's totally effective. It doesn't matter that Magnus believed his vision was true. It's nature as a revelation from Tzeencth makes it completely untrustworthy.
>>44955254 Do you really think people like you? Like, in real life? Do you bring this shit up just to argue with people about how much better Space Wolves are than Thousand Sons? No one cares. It's all made up. Somebody came up with the idea and wrote it into the setting and that's why they're that way. Not because they're better and you're better for liking them, because somebody simply decided it. And now your whole life revolves around a fictitious 10-foot-tall man that fought his brother
>>44967536 >Can't finish Russ didn't "Give up" you squeeb. Both brothers were exhausted and had continual breaks during their fight. Russ was laughing and clearly about to say something during one of these when Lion punched him in the face because the sound of laughter hurts his feelings.
It was dishonorable. Lion knew it was dishonorable and felt like a dumbass for losing his temper because someone laughed during a fight. Russ didn't understand why Lion did it and thought he was just a dishonorable person.
>>44967634 The Canis Helix was part of Russ' DNA before he was abducted by Chaos. He didn't hide it and had a company dedicated to containing those lost to their feral nature. Sanguinus hid his red thirst because it was the direct result of his abduction and a taint of Chaos.
>>44969847 Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Dark Angels were really the first legions to start getting coherent backstory as 40k lore shaped up into something cohesive. There was even a line (I wish I had the picture of the old codex, maybe someone else has it) that those four chapters were the most crucial to the Imperium's survival. Lore for everyone else filtered in over time.
>remember that thing Angron did and have lasted more than 3 centuries? >nope
>Lorgar left a poisoned sun in calth >some of the planets Mortarion visited are still dealing with zombie plagues and more deaeases >Fulgrim fell roboute and the strongest primarch Ferrus >Alpharius poisoned forever raven guard gene seed >perturabo left thousands of chaos strongholds across the imperium >magnus is a fag but at least he opened a warprift on Terra Angron or the world eaters for that matter.........nothing? Even his monolith is probably already looted by the orks that inhabit the jungles or Armageddon.
>>44967755 >Both brothers were exhausted and had continual breaks during their fight
Don't invent details to make Lion look bad. They weren't having constant breaks and Russ happened to laugh during one of them. They're Primarchs, they don't need breaks, and the story is that they literally fought non-stop day and night until Russ realized how stupid the fight was and started laughing, so Lion dropped him for being a cunt and cheap-shotting him in the first place.
You're going to have to accept that the story as it actually is paints Russ as a manchild who endangered his own men because someone hurt his feelings, blamed brother for his own fuck-up and got rightfully decked in the end.
>>44971562 >the Lion and Russ fight >neither of them can overcome the other >Russ realise the idiocy of their fight and begin to laugh >the Lion believes he is laughing at him and sucker punch Russ They both are manchildren anon, that's the whole point of the story
>>44972565 >The point of the story is to provide a reason for the Dark Angels and Space Wolves to have a rivalry. >They both come across badly so their respective Codices can give a one-sided account of it. >The fact that Lion ended up looking a lot more capable than Russ is just keeping things accurate to the characters. This is why I'm a Sangüinius fag, that's bullshit on both accounts, they're both hiper sensible man children with nothing but nuh uh my primarch is better, step up Lion and Russ fags.
>>44973007 >Well Lion is alive, so that's one thing he has over Sanguinius >Well Lion was glass jawed by some non astartes/primarch 10 000 years ago, so that's one thing he has over Sangüinius. Lion was so weak he couldn't give his live for his father.
>>44973007 It's also the only thing he has over anybody, considering despite his tactical genius and seniority, he was an unlikable autist and he lost in a fight to an augmented human.
Then again all the primarchs suck if you look at them too hard, so maybe we shouldn't be arguing over them anyway, especially as all the HH books don't work together well and are pretty shit sometimes.
>>44973007 How is that a good thing over Sanguinus? Lions the one Primarch who isn't doing, or Died doing something for the Imperium. He just decided to take a nap as the Imperium went to shit. I don't even think he told anyone, only the Watchers in the Dark actually know he's still in the Rock.
>>44973225 He was hit by a Chaos-buffed psychic blast of sheer frustration. That's what killed the Emperor, and Lion has just slept it off.
>>44973486 Well clearly he's better than Sangy at fighting Primarchs. He's done it loads of times and won, but Sanguinius has only done it once...
>>44973715 >Lions the one Primarch who isn't doing, or Died doing something for the Imperium.
Corax and Russ fled into the Eye of Terror. I don't see how desertion and suicide helps the Imperium.
In any case, Lion is the one loyal Primarch who can definitely be said to be doing anything, even if it is just sleeping. All the rest are either dead or presumed dead. So in a way, this is all academic. Lion is the best by default, as all the others are no longer capable of competing.
>>44972955 >implying that was Russ >implying it wasn't the Ghost Legion doing the Emperor's dirty work >implying they didn't modify records to make it look like the Wolves were responsible to cover their tracks >implying Russ didn't figure he must've forgot about it during a bad hangover and took credit >implying the 30k wolves even keep their own records to double-check anyway and don't just rely on old guys retelling stories
>>44971421 You seem to have missed the point that Angron was utterly apathetic and insane. He didn't care about his own life, he didn't care about anyone else's lives, he didn't care about the universe... All he did was murder people because the hardware in his brain was wired to make that the only thing in life that was even remotely pleasurable. Why do you even expect such a person to leave anything behind?
>>44982139 No, he has a point. In almost every case, a Legion would have been a lot better without their primarch, or have continued to function normally. The Legions themselves were never a problem - their Primarchs just had so many flaws and made so many bad decisions, it fucked them over.
The Emperor's Heralds would've continued to be happily trying to purge heresy from other cultures, and wouldn't have had an organized worship of the Emperor to gather around, and later be corrupted from.
The Death Guard would've continued to footslog.
The Night Lords would've been brutal butchers and shock troops, but they wouldn't have been tainted by their primarch's despair over the state of the universe or become a bunch of criminals turned supersoldiers, with all the flaws thereof.
The Thousand Sons would've been mutated out of existance, it's actually good they got to Magnus.
The Dark Angels wouldn't have had anything happen to them, or go crazy from grief over the 'death' of their primarch and vow to hunt heretics.
The Luna Wolves would've never begun to follow their primarch over the Emperor.
The World Eaters would've been brutal warriors, but they wouldn't have had nails slammed into their head so they could never be anything but that.
The Iron Hands would've never gone crazy over replacing their flesh with metal and just have been generic footsloggers.
The Raven Guard would've been more in line with the Night Lords, but they wouldn't have been bad. If anything, they could've come around to something more like Corax's thinking on their own given time.
>>44982350 best thing to do would have been to knock the primarchs out as soon as possible after meeting them and put them into some manner of permanent cryo-sleep back in the lab with the gellar field to be harvested for gene-samples to keep the legions running.
>>44982350 The world eaters pre Angron were called the war hounds and were notable for there brotherhood and loyalty to each other, probably the best legion before they got crazy nailed directly in to there brains.
