I noticed that Shadow of the Demon Lord, a super-grimdark and gritty d20 fantasy heartbreaker released just recently, lets you make some interesting characters...
>Your ancestry presents several tables you can use to randomly determine your character’s background, appearance, personality, and other story elements. You can roll dice to randomly determine these elements, choose them, or come up with something else instead.
Roll dice? No thank you. I will choose instead.
>Humans also have many different shapes and sizes. They range from 3 to 7 feet tall and weigh from 50 to 500 pounds or more.
>Human Age
>3d6: 3: You are a child, 11 years old or younger.
No stat modifiers whatsoever.
>Human Appearance
>3d6: 18: You put beautiful people to shame. You are so striking, heads turn to follow you wherever you go. People become infatuated with you, stumbling over their words and feeling flustered when you show them attention. There’s a fine line between love and hate. Should you spurn the attentions of people you enamor, their affection might sour to resentment and even hatred.
So /tg/, why would you NOT a play 3' 0" tall, <11 year old, jaw-droppingly beautiful littleboyin this super-grimdark and gritty game?
>>44953526
Because the GM already reported one player as a potential child-molester and ruined his life (even though he was innocent), and I don't want to be next.
>>44953526
Because I'm playing a middle-aged orc who's features are described as "grotesque" who is very fat, has 15 children (6 of which are still alive) and has the reputation for being a fantastic lover.
>>44953526
Good luck keeping your beauty with ELVES around.
>>44953756
This is only adding to the fetish.
>>44953756
God, alot of ways to lose your eyes in this game.
>>44953835
A fetish for being...Pretty?
>>44953837
God this doesn't stop.
>>44953920
Why did I go down this rabbit hole?
>>44953920
>>44953837
>>44953756
This shit sounds like it came out of Bloodborne.
>>44953954
...grant us eyes...
>>44953756
>>44953837
>>44953920
>>44953950
What the fuck is with these people and eyes?
>>44953756
>>44953837
>>44953920
>>44953950
>>44954048
I guess eye loss is the author's fetish, just like LOFTP is full of girls getting dismembered.
>>44954048
>His eyes have yet to open
>>44953954
You think?
>>44954153
I'll admit, the first thing I looked for was something about eyes.
Still spooky. Thank mr bonemachine.
>>44954084
The game is just generally dark and being blinded is something people are afraid of.
Also, if you commit enough evil acts children might just die due to your proximity, among other things.
>>44954084
>2016
>not having an eye stealing hag as your BBEG
Get with it bro.
So where can I get this? Because some of this would be perfect for my current campaign
>>44954503
Like legally?
On sale on Drive Thru RPG right now.
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/155572/Shadow-of-the-Demon-Lord
There is a print run of the book too, your LGS may have them.
>>44954048
Not so much a fetish, as the author has an extreme phobia about getting things in his eyes or ocular trauma and keeps projecting this onto his players.
This stuff is very effectively horrifying. I may get this PDF just to see what it's like.
Ouch $71 CAD for the physical book...
>>44954658
Effectively horrifying you say?
>>44954662
Cheaper on Amazon. But like welcome to rpg books.
>>44954662
Its because 1 usd = .69 cad.
I remember when we were 1:1. Fuck this economy shit nigger.
>>44954740
I have like 250 RPG books, never spent that kinda dosh on one before. Think the most expensive one I have is Edge of the EMpire which I got from craigslist for like 1/4 cost.
>>44954726
Yes it is. I can't think of a guy who wouldn't recoil in horror at the idea of his junk rotting off in front of his very eyes.
I also can't help but wonder if the "Part Bone from Flesh" spell is a reference to this scene from Wishmaster
https://youtu.be/L9wOCD2q-sU?t=4m20s
>>44954806
Very possible..or that bit from the Simpsons when Doctor Nick claimed Grandpa's skeleton was trying to escape his body through the mouth.
That said, alot of magic in this game is less horrifying and more awesome.
>>44954748
Dude weed lmao
>>44953526
i like the rules
>>44953526
>Shadow of the Demon Lord
Would you say the game does grimdark well ? Do you like the setting
>>44954867
What's the fucking point of Twain Self? Suicide?
>>44959753
Reading it makes it seem like a Clone Self spell with a few caveats. If the fight doesn't last more than a minute, an extra body could be handy
>>44953526
>d20 fantasy heartbreaker released just recently
it keeps happening
why does it keep happening
>>44954219
3
>edgelord with the name TZIRH) ZUZ3L crawling in their skin
>the R is backwards backwards because soviet russia is edgy too

>Your ancestry presents several tables you can use to randomly determine your character’s background, appearance, personality, and other story elements. You can roll dice to randomly determine these elements, choose them, or come up with something else instead.
don't suppose you could post them?
>>44960745
Each race has like 5 or 6 tables so I can post a few of the more interesting ones.
>>44959753
You now have two characters with twice the number of actions and spells.
Theoretically your future self could cast Twain Self again and you have 3 actions per round, unfortunately one area of effect attack might fuck you.
>>44960745
Changelings are constructs of the Fae. When they steal a child they leave a changeling behind so that the parents are none the wiser. Usually the changeling dies after a few weeks but some survive and grow into people.
>>44961246
Clockworks are constructs that are inahabitted by souls that were plucked from the underworld. They have a key on them somewhere they can't reach when they are wound up they are a creature, when they are wound down they are an object.

Humans are humans except.
Many Variations: Humans comprise many different ethnic groups. Skin tones can range from almost black to albino white, or green, blue, orange, pink, or something else. Some humans have patterned skin, stripes, thick body hair, or no hair at all. Humans also have many different shapes and sizes. They range from 3 to 7 feet tall and weigh from 50 to 500 pounds or more. Most humans live about seventy years.
>>44953526
Does anyone have a PDF of this? The share thread isn't up yet.
>>44961443
Dwarfs are very standard dwarfs.
>>44961515
Goblins used to live in the Fae Realm until the Faerie Queen cast them out for reasons they don't remember.
Goblins love crude humor and it shows in their names as Blix, Blunder, Bubo, Cough, Drips, Hack, Pecker, Phlegm, Poop, Pox, Puke, Sludge, Snot, and Vomit.
>>44961649
Orcs were jotun prisoners captured by the Empire, using dark magic they twisted them into wild beasts that the Empire used to massively expand its borders. Very recently in the game timeline the orc king Drudge strangled the Emperor and laid waste to the capital, this has caused a great deal of orcs to turn on the Empire leaving the whole thing a complete mess.
This is actually reminding me of FATAL in a few ways. Not just the edginess - although it's way less edgy, and apparently competent - but the random tables being posted feel a bit like it.
why would anyone a new d20 game now its 2016
>>44961812
it's not a d20 game, if you mean OSR.
d20 is the central mechanics, but abilities and modifiers have a 1/1 parity, and situational modifiers are plus or minus d6s, with a roll and keep highest.
>>44953978
Awooooooooooooo
>>44953546
Sounds like a fun storytime is in order.
>>44961649
Reminds me of Lorwyn's Boggarts
>>44961848
Oh, that's OK then. It's just a generic edgy fantasy heartbreaker - the OP suggested otherwise.
>>44961492
bump
Edgy bullshit. Not interested.
>>44962648
Thanks for your contribution.
>>44962593
I have the main book but it's watermarked to hell and the started guide is slightly too big to upload here and I don't know how to pare it down.
>>44953526
Because you could be a centaur robot that makes bigger robots that he controls from inside
>>44962471
>edgy
reading through the book i detect precious little of this "edge" outside of some ridiculous spell descriptions.
>>44953978
Nigga you ain't fearing the old blood nearly enough.
>>44953756
So, elves are edgy kenders that steal children eyes?
>>44963954
I don't see how they're remotely similar.
>>44954219
>a new row of teeth in an unexpected place
Jesus Christ how horrifying.
