>think of some planet ideas, start with the big ideas >check ideas with actual science and astronomy >zoom a factor in and start fleshing out some more simple concepts >vet those too >and so on until you've got a basic framework
>>44801522 No thanks, that dude has a fucking fetish for beetles. Haven't you noticed how many different kinds of insects he always has in his worlds? They outnumber all of the proper animals so much that I can only assume its some fucked up magical realm
>>44801471 First decide on a couple gimmicks that make your world different from Earth. Such as more/less water or whatever. The create a bunch of ecosystems, some are similar to Earth but not all have exact analogues, such as a forest of sessile invertebrates instead of plants. Although it's possible that alien life won't resemble Earth life at all, I suspect that their will still be some convergent evolution. So you can either create aliens by combining Earth life until you end up with suitably exotic chimeras that pass as aliens. It depends if you want unique looking lifeforms or more of the Star Wars kind that look like Earth life. Create a bunch of creatures first, then pick one to advance into an intelligent lifeform (though it doesn't need to necessarily be a tool user). Cultures tend to directly affected their environment, with the most warlike cultures developing in areas with the least resources. What else do you want to know?
>>44801900 Really? I've always thought it's too much of a sandbox, you never know what to do in order for anything to happen. It's basically freeform forum RP, with him letting his favourites roll bullshit special snowflake characters that get away with anything, and if you say anything about you get banned or ignored. Fucking cliques ruin everything.
>>44801857 Just because something's prolific in a setting doesn't mean it's magical realm.
fuck, man, I like non-human races to have more than one fucking culture, does that give me an anthropology fetish?
>>44801819 Try visiting some places other than suburbia, you'll find some amazingly breathtaking stuff.
>>44801900 Nah, the problem is that god lets his players run a bit too rampant. I mean, shit,m have you ever seen the first campaigns the dude used to run? But he's such a damn stickler for continuity he can't just allow PC accomplishments to remain small. Always has to end in NEW COUNTRY FOUNDED! or NEW CITY BUILT! that it leaves nothing for later players.
>>44802077 Actually, on second though, that'd make a great saturday morning BBEG
>Why are you doing this, why are you going to kill so many people! >"Because the world is boring! There's a town every two hours march, and if you do something songworthy you;ll be forgotten within the week!" >"Trust me, if you survive the cull, the world will be a much more fulfilling place"
>>44803369 Except "significant" is just one's opinion and you ought to explore the intellectual content of shit of more intellectual value than an adaption of a bog-standard "sex and sorcery" porn game.
OP here. I seem to have forgotten my high school education or I'm needlessly confusing things. Does mass have a direct correlaton to size, or can something have high mass but be smaller because of it being more, for lack of better words, "packed in"
>>44803876 You mean density. Creatures like kaiju can't technically exist on Earth because they would collapse upon themselves unless they were made of exotic matter. Giant creatures exist more easily in liquids because the water removes a lot of the stress that affects large animals. Super huge beings could exist on other planets, but they would not be Earthlike, they'd be very different.
>>44802641 Spoilered for cancer: Basically whenever I got involved in some Harry Potter fan creative thing and it fell to me to make a BBEG, my default villain was a Darklord who wanted to expose magic to the world and create a new age of heroes and villains. I liked him because the fun part of his schtick was that he didn't mind the idea of an inevitable downfall, as long as it was big, showy, and everyone saw and was inspired to rise up to become a dark lord them self ot become a hero.
>>44802730 >>44805173 >>44802688 You wouldn't believe how sharp an an insects bite can be. I've been bitten by several and the mandibles just slides in and out of my fleshy bits. Even mantis blades are fucking sharp.
