GATE Happens, only instead of leading to modern-day Tokyo, the gate opens up in the last non-fantasy RPG setting you gamed in.
Welp, they're fucked.
Just how fucked depends on where the gate opens.
Megacorp controlled sector: After a horrifically one-sided slaughterfest, I can see the megacorps ruthlessly exploiting the locals. On the plus side, the people in that world are used to fighting monsters so with a little training they should be helpful against the Dark Legion.
Dark Legion controlled sector: You poor bastards..... Algeroth's legions pour through the gate and start slaughtering everything in their path. Then the Dark Apostles erect Black Citadels and start processing the entire population into Necromutants, Undead Legionaries or worse.
Arguably Earth would be the best scenario I doubt Whitestar is interested in sending an expeditionary force through what is almost certainly a Dark Legion trick. I still would give those orcs and romans about a day before they wander into a Radioactive hot zone and die puking.
They are fucked. The gate is an unknown. Something that isn't part of the Reapers plan for the technological development of civilizations.
The races of the galaxy will swarm the place looking for something that they can use against the Reapers. The Reapers will swarm the place to make sure that nobody finds anything.
Deadlands Hell on Earth
Oh, they're in trouble. The Orcs and Romans are probably dead the second the go through the gate. If the radiation doen't get them, they'll blunder into a Wormling den or something.
Of course that leaves the Gate itself. Someone will find it. Maybe the Black Hats, which would not be pretty.
The Reckoners WILL sense this disturbance and go looking for it. Then the people of Gate world are in for an apocalypse of their own.
All I've got to say on the subject.
>Mutants and Masterminds
Interdimensional warlords invading? Oh it's Tuesday already.
Then they get rekt by any passing superhero if they're wussy enough to get killed by bullets.
Some newbie heroes go in to stake the place out.
Then some villains sneak in too and take shit over.
>Purge Xeno Scum
One Space Marine could do the job, if pansy Japanese SDF can do it and they are basically on par with the LAPD, a Space Marine could get it cleared up in an hour or so.
Need to hold a raffle for who gets to do it.
So there's another pandora gate now, but there's actually sapient life behind it. Probably would be a bunch of argument about the ethics of uplifting the fantasy sapient-beings to transhumanity. Then again, they just might be the Titans playing a trick on us, especially since they all seem to have Psi Epsilon powers. Might be classified as an X-Threat just for that and destroyed with nanomachines, or possibly quarantined..
>the Mojave Wasteland
War... war never changes. Not in this world or any other. Whether through the untold machinations of Old World science, the mutations wrought by the Wasteland's radiation and FEV, or the magic of the world behind the Gate... wars will be fought. Blood will be spilled. Maps will be rewritten. Mankind will fight the same war for survival that it always has.
Because war. War never changes.
There are no known gates in solar system where invading non-augmented GATE legions won't suffocate.
After that, transhumans establish satnet, drive locals away with microwave agonizer perimeter defence and then deploy first-contact specialists to deal with locals.
Custom near future setting with campaign centered around a series of popular VR games. Fantasy, sci fi, cyberpunk, post apoc and more, depending on which you want to play. Thing is, people have started to manifest their characters powers in the real world, realized how to build the tech, etc.
People might even think the Gate is just another manifestation of the game. And then the war breaks out and both sides are probably matched, mythic beings vs magitech cannibal cyborgs or whatever grab bag of powers are developed by playing multiple genres.
Well, at least now the portals have somewhere to vent into.
In all seriousness though an almost endless flood of Monster Hunter style beasties come charging through, meanwhile our world begins to get oddly prosperous....then too prosperous as our own wildlife start becoming Monster Hunter beasties and our people start mutating and gaining magic.
Creation is not a good thing if there is no opposing concept of Destruction to keep it in check.
>Post-Nuclear Apocalyptic US
>Currently the remnants of the USA on the East Coast (which include cowboys, mutant rednecks which are a skin-tone away from being orks, the remains of an AI program which likes to react the 40s, and a Louisiana that has went off the deep end of the chivalry shtick and become literal knight) are desperately attempting to fight off mutated wildlife and a sentient fungal virus which has allied itself with mutant football players
>To the West, an race of crazy cat-girl feminazis are attempting to conquer the region, fighting against a nation of hippies, a Native American tribe, what are quite clearly the War Boys, and a traction city being ran by the remnants of Tsarist Russia. Oh, and Mega-City One is there too, being aided by aliens, and attempting to murder everyone for TREASON and breaking THE LAW.
Everyone is too busy fighting each other/trying to not die to really notice. Some mutated wildlife probably crawl through and provide the fantasy Romans some more monsters to test their mettle with. Like this, only the size of a VW Beetle.
Finally. A perfect solution to the joker problem.
They should have stuck with the regular Tokyo.
Time for a full on invasion of the fantasy realm. We are moving as many people as we can through the Gate and then blowing it up. The Angels can fucking have the Earth, its a shithole after Second Impact anyway.
Does Urban Fantasy count?
It opens up to World of Darkness New York. Things are pretty okay compared to most of the examples in this thread, although generally shittier than they would be if it opened up to actual New York.
>Star Wars post-KOTOR II
Depends on the planet the gate opens on. If it's on a hellhole like Taris or a Sith remnant world they get buttfucked, if it's anywhere else the Republic get a nice new place to settle and colonise.
Probably with us dealing with any threats that arise
It's like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, only it's dragons instead of dinosaurs and only lesbians can learn to drive apparently.
On the plus side, your car lesbian can now pick up qt elf chicks and trave ten the ways of the car and the ways of the lesbian
We throw zem a partei.
A Nazi partei!
With liberal amounts of "I bet the Jews/Cthulhus did this"
>Mobile Suit Gundam, OYW right after Loum
The forces from the start of the anime get pasted as the start of Gate but worse, and the Feddies and Zeon try to figure out how the hell you fit anything bigger than a Type 61, a Magalla or a mobile suit on a bigass flatbed in there for resources, hearts and minds, all that jazz.
Shadowrun ? Anyone?
Its like nothing changes. They would get rekt beyond well everything
>gurps infinite worlds: Anime Supers edition
Hey, they actually have a protocol for this. They try to do things secretly and respectfully, and when that doesn't work and shit hits the fan, send a ragtag band of misfits with extreme martial skill in. Aided by assorted magic and stolen ultra-tech, of course.
Generally stuff goes a lot like GATE, except the military presence is much less visible than the JSDF. It's like, 12 dudes. Humanitarian presence is still the same, though.
I really hope some unsuspecting sod doesn't bring the Primer back with them. I shudder to think what would happen if that alien virus infected a Troll or a Dragon.
"Wait, you mean there's a magical gateway, and beyond it is a world with green trees, fresh water, and plentiful game."
"And the people there are all basically tribals with spears? Fuck it, man. What are we waiting for, the Super Mutants to find it! Let's go exterminate some ignorant savages!"
Yeah, I'd be most concerned about the settlers streaming into Gate- World. Fallout's Earth is dying, they would stop at nothing to claim this unspoiled world for themselves.
Well it's traveller so it largely depends on the world where tho gates opens.
Tech level 1-5 would probably go in favor of the fantasy world.
>yay, more savages to enslave and plunder.
Tech Level 6 to 9 would be pretty much the original story in another place.
> Shit, they got choppers !
Tech Level 10-15 would either have to fight through the bureaucracy of the empire to contact a lesser developed world or just wipe the place clean with nuclear fire and call the gate a scientifically breakthrough.
>*war of the world noises*
Bonus points if the gates opens on Kasaan, home to one of the, if not the, most aggressive, lethal and territorial apex predator of the whole galaxy: the crested jabberwock
>Once we had dragons and it was a bad time, they are gone now and we have jabberwocks... i miss the dragons.
What you forget is that once that gate is opened the first thing that will come out of it is a magical roman army hell bent on slaughtering everything bigger than mouse in the name of conquest. And you realize how fucked any and all factions in the Mojave will be when they have to contend with this massive and well equipped force.
Do you think the NCR could defend the Mojave from that? They're already dealing with, and losing to, a completely different Roman inspired army, even if it really is ragtag horde of slave soldiers armed with machetes.
To put this in terms of the struggle for the Mojave before the Courier interferes with it, this would be like taking an entirely new and separate Ceaser's legion, in addition to the one they're already fighting. Imagine that those battle hardened soldiers are now heavily disciplined and trained for formation fighting and other battlefield tactics instead of machete wielding skirmishers, but no less bloodthirsty or eager to rape and pillage en mass. Now imagine they are backed on the battlefield by actual wizards, horrific trained battle beasts, and fucking wyvern close air support.
Not even House could deal with that shit.
Everyone Starts looking for the malfunctioning holodeck, again.
>ragtag horde of slave soldiers armed with machetes
And magical bulletproof hockey pads that let them survive taking a round of .50 BMG to the head. Don't forget that.
Yes, the Legion piss me the fuck off with their bullshit armor.
True, but keep in mind these magical roman soldiers are completely ignorant of the Mojave's dangers.
I'd give them a day and a half before they wander into a nuclear blast crater and suddenly 2/3rds of this invading force are puking their guts out and bleeding to death from every orifice.
Never underestimate how dangerous the Wastland ITSELF can be.
Does Shadowrun's magic aspect discount it from this?
>The Empire tries to invade Seattle
>Every megacorp on the planet goes fucking insane and race each other through it to claim territory to "pacify the invaders" and "liberate the oppressed" with CAPITALISM
It would amuse me GREATLY if the Gate opened on Cadia.
"Ha ha ! The empire has come to conquer and esla-"
>Entire street full of Cadians pulls lasguns and starts shooting at them.
"OMGWTF!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!"
>The gate opens on cybertron
Optimus and the gang have to stop the deceptions from enslaving/genociding fantasy races
Id watch it
Komrade, we must drown enemy in tomato only then will Gate give up its shekels.
NO CAP, KILL ALL!
>GURPS Campaign set in modern day with a little magic sprinkled in and lots of tactical action
>Current part of the campaign is in Europe
Basically it's GATE but in Europe and operators with magic instead of a full army
>Chicago in the worm universe
"Oh, you guys can use legit magic and shit? Great! Help us fight these giant unkillable murder-monsters that are slowly destroying society as we know it, because if you don't, they'll destroy your world too, and we won't help you if you don't help us."
>a combined Champions/M&M/Silver Age Sentinels/and some other systems I don't know world.
"Well, this is the first time out link with another world has been permanent. How interesting." also, the initial strike is met by staunch resistance from local superhero teams and is cast back before they can make off with many people. The few people who are still kidnapped are likely rescued in the next week or so.
So the gate opens into the universe of 3:16 Carnage Amongst the Stars. Which is basically Starship Troopers: The RPG.
Yeah, it's not gonna go well for them. All life in the universe must be eliminated, including life that is not actually in this universe. Lock and load, it's gonna be a good campaign.
That's surprisingly similar to what my DM would say after our last impossible-mission-you-should-have-failed-to-advance-the-plot.
I guess El Diamante Loco is not alone in the Meta-Universe.
Our setting is our GM's homebrew. It's a futuristic space opera with a dash of xenoscience and xeno pseudomagic sprinkled in. We've already accidentally destroyed three planets, and another planet we fucked up on purpose. So, I give the guys beyond the gate about 6 seconds before they get their shit wrecked and we start mounting a counter invasion. It would actually be pretty neat if they did invade us, since one of our teammembers tried to stick his xeno loving dick in some ancient artifact and unleashes some horror upon the universe that's fucking up everything so bad our best plan is to just grab our shit and fuck off to another universe altogether.
>Star Wars SAGA, 5BBY, Corellia System
Yeah I'd call that boned.
Though it would make an EXCELLENT escape hatch since my party is trying to smuggle a young Green Jedi Padawan out from under an Imperial Checkpoint... that has at least one psycho Inquisitor pinging the force every minute or less.
Either way the empire would Dominate that planet... Though the fact that they would be limited to mostly ground force gives the potential of a third faction locking them out while fending off attacks by the native.
>Last non-fantasy setting.
Not really sure if the Fantasy-Punk aesthetic of the Witcher counts, but it would be interesting.
The Northern Kingdoms are fucked, of course. They just got invaded by basically another Nilfgaard.
Then it would be a battle between the Fantasy Roman's ancient world legion tactics vs. the fast-moving caravans and massed, heavy cavalry of the Nilfgaardian Blitzkrieg.
Of course, the Gate world have just fucked themselves, because now the White Frost will consume their world as well. To say nothing of what will happen when the Wild Hunt detects their intrusion.
